Game Overlay Translator news & patch notes

• NEW: The app interface is now available in Indonesian, Malay and Thai — 22 interface languages in total. Switch in Settings (top-right dropdown).
• Together with v1.17 (Indonesian/Malay translation support), the whole experience is now localized for Southeast Asia: the interface, the translations, and the store page.

• NEW: Indonesian and Malay support — both as target languages (translate games INTO Indonesian/Malay) and as source languages. Each is a small one-time download. This came straight from a player request on the forums — terima kasih!
• NEW: Built-in Russian glossary: 298 fixed translations for common game terms (inventory, quests, stats, crafting...). Menu labels in Russian now stay consistent instead of changing every time — same treatment Japanese, Chinese and Korean already have.
• HONEST NOTE: short menu labels in Indonesian/Malay may still be rough in places (that is what glossaries fix — they are on the roadmap). Feedback on translations is very welcome on the discussion boards.

• NEW: Fullscreen support — the tool now works with games running in borderless fullscreen and in exclusive fullscreen. A new capture method is selected automatically and cross-checked against the previous one at startup; if anything misbehaves on your system, Settings > Display lets you pin the previous method (identical behavior to v1.15).
• IMPROVED: Capturing the screen is now about 15x faster, and if one capture method fails, the tool automatically falls back to another instead of silently doing nothing.
• IMPROVED: Garbled "ghost" text that flickers in for a single frame is now filtered out before translation, so fewer nonsense translations pop up.

• FIXED: Starting the overlay no longer minimizes games running in borderless fullscreen. If your game "broke" the moment the translator started, this was it — please try again.
• NEW: If the screen cannot be captured (some fullscreen setups), the tool now tells you and suggests switching the game to borderless windowed — instead of silently doing nothing.
• NEW: While the screen is still, the tool captures it far less often (about 60% fewer screen grabs). Lower background load, on by default.
• NEW: Built-in glossaries for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean — 298 fixed translations for common game terms each, same as the Japanese one. Menu labels stay consistent instead of changing every time.
• IMPROVED: Translating FROM Japanese no longer shows "⁇" marks for words the engine does not know — they are cleaned up, or the original text is shown.
• FIXED: A rare crash when returning to Settings while the translation engine was still warming up.

• NEW: Display stabilization (on by default; turn it off in Settings > Display). While a subtitle stays the same, its translation patch is now held perfectly still instead of being redrawn every capture — no more flickering backgrounds under the text in movies, videos and games with animated scenes.
• IMPROVED: Tiny OCR noise no longer swaps a subtitle's translation back and forth between different wordings. Real changes still show immediately, and numbers (HP, ammo, timers, counters) always update instantly.
• FIXED: On some games the app could wrongly switch into a fallback mode where the translation briefly disappears on every capture, blinking about twice per second. This no longer happens when normal capture exclusion is working.

• NEW: System tray icon — right-click to show or hide the bar, pause auto translation, open Settings or quit; double-click brings the bar back. There is always a way back.
• FIXED: in rare cases (for example when another app had grabbed the same hotkey), hiding the bar could leave you with no way to bring it back or translate. The app now checks that the restore hotkey actually works before hiding the bar, and refuses to hide it otherwise.
• FIXED: on some screen widths the control bar stuck out past the right edge, making the new hide button unclickable.

• NEW: Subtitle style. Choose a solid background box for translations (color and 30-100% opacity, globally or per game) instead of reconstructing the original background. No more shifting background colors under the text — perfect for movies and videos. Bonus: rendering is up to 18x faster in this mode.
• NEW: Hide the control bar (F3 by default, or the button on the bar). Everything keeps working via hotkeys while it is hidden.
• NEW: While the bar is hidden and auto mode is running, a small ✕ appears in the corner — one click stops auto translation and brings the bar back.

• FIXED: translation with LM Studio failed for every model. The app sent a JSON-mode flag that LM Studio rejects (HTTP 400); it is gone now, so translation works with the models you already have loaded.
• FIXED: errors during translation said "see console" — but the app has no console. You now get a clear message with the server's actual response, and everything is written to logs\app.log (Settings > About > Open log folder).
• IMPROVED: instructions for LM Studio models are now sent in English in the system role, so small models no longer translate the instructions themselves.
• NEW: "LLM output token limit" setting (default 4096) so long screens are no longer cut off. Note: the model's context length is set in LM Studio itself.

• NEW: LM Studio support (local). Connect to an LM Studio server running on your own PC and translate with virtually any local model — Deepseek, Qwen, Llama and more — just like with Ollama. Everything stays on your machine: no cloud, no API keys.
• NEW: Custom system prompt for the AI engines (Ollama / LM Studio). Set the tone and style of translations globally or per game. The output-format rules stay protected so translations keep working, and one click restores the default.
• NEW: Japanese font pack — 3 bundled families (Noto Sans JP, Noto Serif JP, Zen Maru Gothic). Japanese players can now pick the overlay font globally or per game, too.

• IMPROVED: Russian, Ukrainian and Bulgarian got a new default font. Cyrillic text used to render wide, sparse and often unreadably small — it is now dense and clear (tiny lines dropped by 60% in our benchmark).
• NEW: 13 bundled open-source fonts (SIL OFL). Pick the overlay font globally or per game in Settings; fonts that can't display your language are filtered out automatically.
• NEW (experimental, off by default): automatic font matching. The app estimates the original text's weight, slant and width and picks the closest bundled font for each game. Enable it in the first-run wizard or Settings — and when text is outlined, rotated or tiny, it plays safe and keeps the default instead of guessing.

• NEW OCR ENGINE: recognition models upgraded by two generations. In our benchmark, Cyrillic (Russian etc.) character errors dropped from 8.7% to 0.0%, words glued together without spaces are virtually eliminated, and blurry or low-resolution text is recognized far better in every language.
• NEW: OCR quality setting — Accuracy (default) or Speed, if you prefer faster recognition on weaker PCs.
• NEW: Minimum font size for translated text, adjustable in Settings and straight from the control bar — no more translations too tiny to read.
• FIX: Auto mode: translations now disappear when the original subtitle does, partially-changed subtitles no longer produce broken lines, and a slowdown after repeatedly reopening Settings has been fixed.

• FASTER: Full-screen translation on high-resolution displays is dramatically faster: about -62% total time on a 4K screen (15s → 5.7s in our benchmark) and -31% on Full HD. We only removed wasted processing — translations, OCR results and the rendered image are exactly the same as before, pixel for pixel.
• NEW: Better feedback while you wait: a "Preparing…" status during first-time engine warm-up, a one-time notice when the app has to run in slower CPU mode (no compatible GPU), and a diagnostics section in Settings showing GPU/CPU mode and the last processing time (all 19 interface languages).

• FIX: Translating dialogue lines that have no ending punctuation could clip the first words of the translation (a line seemingly starting mid-sentence). The offline engine now handles this internally. In our 15-sentence probe, clipped lines went from 7 to 0 — and text that already ends with punctuation is translated exactly as before.
• NEW: Help page (Settings → ❓ Help, in all 19 interface languages): the basic workflow, selection-frame tips, your current hotkey assignments, how to fix a translation with the glossary, the differences between engines, and troubleshooting.

• IMPROVED: Big readability overhaul for long text (journals, quest logs, dialogue). Paragraphs are now re-typeset with a uniform font size, proper line spacing and word-boundary wrapping — no more mid-word breaks or lines shrunk to unreadable sizes. This directly addresses a report about Russian text rendering; it helps every language.
• IMPROVED: Built-in glossary expanded from 79 to ~300 common game UI terms (Japanese target). Menu staples like "Load Game", "Exit Game" or "Quest" now always get their proper translation instead of a literal one.
• NEW: One-tap dismiss for the selection frame — click the ✕ on its corner, or press Clear again when there's nothing left to clear. (Requested on the discussion board — thanks!)
• FIX: The floating toolbar no longer changes width when the status text changes, so buttons stay where you expect them during auto mode.
• NEW: Thai added as a translation target (downloaded on first use).

• NEW: Model Manager (Settings → sidebar). See every downloaded model with its actual size and delete the ones you don't use — downloaded language packs, the NVIDIA Riva model and Ollama models. Bundled models stay protected. (Requested in a review — thanks!)
• FIX: Clear Ollama error messages. When Ollama can't start, install, or download its model, the app now tells you exactly what went wrong and what to do — previously it failed silently, which looked like "Ollama just doesn't turn on".

• NEW: 19 European languages added as translation targets (32 total): Turkish, Ukrainian, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Greek, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Slovak, Bulgarian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Slovenian, Catalan and Irish.
• Bundled & fully offline: Turkish, Ukrainian, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian and Greek work out of the box — and the app interface now speaks them too (19 UI languages in total). The others download once automatically on first use, then work fully offline.
• NEW: Subtitle-box auto mode. Draw a box over the subtitles (or any area) and Auto mode now watches just that box — each new line gets translated as it appears. Works in any order: box first or Auto first. Clear the box to go back to full-screen watching.
• NEW: Dutch and Bulgarian as source languages (reading the screen). Other new languages are target-only for now — current recognition models don't handle their special characters well enough, and we'd rather be honest than ship a bad experience.

New in v1.4

• Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) — full support. Read Traditional Chinese game text (new recognition model) AND translate into natural Taiwan-standard Traditional Chinese (軟體 / 滑鼠-style vocabulary).
• Simplified ⇄ Traditional conversion. Playing a Simplified Chinese game? Pick Traditional Chinese as the target for a clean script conversion — no machine translation in between.
• Vietnamese added as a target language. (Reading Vietnamese screens is not supported yet — current recognition models can't do the diacritics justice, and we'd rather be honest than ship a bad experience.)
• The app interface is now available in 13 languages.

Also included (v1.3, shipped earlier today)

• FIX: garbled block characters (▁/□) that could appear in Chinese and other translations.
• ALL translation models are now bundled — no first-use downloads, fully offline out of the box.
