Immersive Chinese learning
Learn practical Mandarin Chinese through every conversation, quest, and puzzle. Enjoy more than 45 hours of combined gameplay and learning.
Three difficulty modes are available to adapt to your level: Very Beginner, HSK 1, HSK 2.
Skippable Pinyin module and smart input support
Start with a dedicated Pinyin module that teaches pronunciation and tones step by step. You can progress at your own pace or skip it entirely if you already know Pinyin.
Choose how you want to answer exercises:
Type Chinese using Pinyin input
Select characters directly for precise answers
Flexible reading modes and Pinyin support
Choose between three character learning modes:
Pinyin only (no Hanzi)
Top 110 Hanzi (learn the most common characters while keeping the rest in Pinyin)
Full Hanzi
You can also enable an option to display Pinyin above Hanzi, showing pronunciation and tones to make reading easier.
Practice drawing Hanzi directly on your screen to internalize stroke order and improve writing memory.
We are also planning to add Traditional Chinese character support within the next 6 months.
We added an optional Top 110 Kanji Mode to the Japanese and Polyglot versions:
Learn the 110 most common kanji used in the game
Can be enabled at the start or switched at any time
Practice drawing kanji directly on screen
Animated stroke order guides
A new quest has been added: The Search for the 110 Gnomes.
Explore WonderLang, find hidden gnomes, and report back to the Gnome King in the first village.
In Japanese (110 Kanji mode): gnomes teach kanji
In other languages: gnomes help you review words you previously got wrong in combat
WonderLang English is planned for February 2026, with two modes:
British English
American English
In Spring 2026, we also plan to add:
Mexican / Latin American Spanish to WonderLang Spanish
European Portuguese to WonderLang Portuguese
These will be free updates for existing owners of those language versions.
Fixed an issue that caused a ‘Failed to load: img/pictures/Bookmark.png’ crash at game startup, introduced in the last update.
- Fixed an issue that could prevent help explanations from appearing under certain conditions during dialogue. - Added a new quest: Search for 110 Gnomes. Gnomes are scattered across the entire game world. Report your progress to the Gnome King, located near the ruined castle in the first village, to receive upgrades and gear. Normally, gnomes reward you with money for reviewing words you previously got wrong in combat. - Added Top 110 Kanji Mode for Japanese. This mode introduces the 110 most common kanji. Text is displayed entirely in kana, except for words that use these 110 kanji. You can review and practice drawing kanji when you encounter them for the first time, or by finding the 110 gnomes. In this mode, each gnome teaches a different kanji instead of asking you to review an incorrect combat answer. - Added a shortcut in the battle menu to quickly reuse the last skill used. - You no longer need to select a target when only one enemy is present. - Reduced the time correct answers remain displayed during combat. - The interraction popup now only appears when you are actually close enough to interract wiht a character or object.
- Fixed an issue in the Italian route that prevented reporting some villagers’ occupations to the engineer. - Fixed missing or incorrect translations in several base languages. For example, the dictionary sometimes defaulted to English, and some sentence explanations still contained English words. - Other minor bug fixes and improvements.
Corrected a bug that caused the game to crash when entering the Mushroom Garden.
Corrected a wrong sentence during the Korean Hangul tutorial, where an English sentence was appearing instead of the word "Cup".
This is one of the largest updates to WonderLang to date.
Until now, WonderLang was designed primarily for English speakers, with English as the only base language.
Starting with version 1.30, WonderLang is no longer limited to English. You can now learn any available language starting from your own native language.
French
German
Spanish
Portuguese
Italian
Korean
Japanese
Chinese
Dutch
Arabic
Indonesian
Polish
Ukrainian
Russian
This is a major accessibility improvement and allows many more players to enjoy WonderLang without relying on English.
You can also select the same language as both the base language and the target language.
In this mode:
All texts are shown only in the target language
No explanations are provided in another language
This creates a fully immersive experience
This option is intended for high-proficiency players who want maximum immersion.
WonderLang now provides optional explanations for NPC dialogue lines.
You can request help for any dialogue sentence
Explanations are available throughout the entire game, not just early sections
This allows you to continue progressing even when the language becomes more complex
This makes long-term play more accessible while still preserving immersion.
The Learn French path also got more single word explanations.
You can now export and import your save files.
This makes it easy to:
Transfer your progress between devices
Move your progress from the demo to the full game
Keep backups of your saves
The Japanese kana learning section has been expanded.
You can now:
Practice drawing kana directly on your screen
Follow animated stroke order guides
Learn kana through writing, not only reading
A new optional learning mode is in development.
Learn the 120 most common kanji used in the game
Select this mode when starting a new game or switch to it at any time
Practice drawing kanji directly on your screen
Includes animated stroke order guides
New optional challenges will be added:
Review words you previously got wrong
Revisit past sentences and dialogues
Earn extra gold, mana, or health as rewards
Mandarin Chinese will soon be added to the Polyglot version of WonderLang.
It will include:
A pinyin mode (Pinyin is the romanized system used to represent Chinese pronunciation)
The 120 most common hanzi, with pinyin support
Full support for:
Simplified Chinese characters
Traditional Chinese characters
