Hey everyone! Thanks for your support.
Due to a few changes of plans, I decided to completely overhaul the narrative of Water Boiling Simulator to make it a self-contained story and completely detached to the SiliCorp Computers narrative. SiliCorp isn't dead, but its story is so far gone compared to the original idea that was used in the original version of Water Boiling Simulator that it's just a completely different narrative at this point.
So, to clear up some lore bloat, I decided to make this game's story more akin to the original 2021 PICO-8 release, focusing more on personal issues rather than being a part of an overarching story.
This story pretty personal to me, so I hope it's enough. And if it isn't, well... That's OK! There are plenty more projects to come (and I don't consider myself the best writer, if I'm being totally honest).
But other than that, the game is pretty much the same. So if you've already beaten Water Boiling Simulator, gameplay wise, there isn't anything new.
Completely overhauled every single narrative beat of the game to better fit a more cohesive, self-contained story.
Changed to final basement task items to something more fitting of the new narrative.
Made it so every single "storytime monologue" cutscene will appear in chronological order whenever the player concentrates in the default "Water Boiling Simulator" difficulty.
Changed the small PICO-8 font to something a little more readable. (R.I.P).
Changed the size of the "messaging app" interface.
Removed the "Lorekeeper" and completionist achievements.
Added Brazilian Portuguese language support.
and... a brand-new key art made by me!
Aaaand I think that is all. If there are any new bugs I promise I will get to them as soon as possible! Thanks for your patience!
So, as stated before: SiliCorp is going nowhere. Here are a few cool new screenshots that I think most of you guys missed:
I can't show much yet, but I'm pretty excited to see everyone's reaction.
Also, there is a pretty high probability that a smaller game in the same vein as Water Boiling Simulator is coming before SiliCorp, so there is that (after all, this is how I fund larger projects, haha).
I don't think there will be any sort of new content update to this game anytime soon after this one. This game was made by me in like two months while I was dealing with college, and it was never meant to be anything larger than that, and I'm happy with it.
Thanks for reading!
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to give a quick update on my next project!
Things are going well, but I decided to opt out of Next Fest for the time being.
Could I finish a demo in time for the event? Probably. Would it be good? Definitely not.
So instead, I decided to take my time with it to make sure it's good. Like, really good.
So yeah! Expect the official announcement and Steam Page sometime next month, alongside some nice gameplay footage. (Ideally early June, but due to Next Fest happening I may have to postpone it just to make sure it doesn't go unnoticed.)
For the time being, here are a few WIP development screenshots of the project!
These don't count as an official announcement just yet, just a small sneak peek for what's to come!
Okay, that's all for today.
Thanks for reading!
Hey guys!
Just letting you all know that the game's price is down a little thanks to the new Steam pricing tool!
It should be around ~20% to 25% cheaper.
Welp, that is all for now. At least, until June.
See ya!
...
...
Okay I'll write a little more:
I don't want to talk too much right now, but things are looking really good in regards to the development of SiliCorp Systems, or rather, now recently renamed to "SiliCorp Computers" for simplicity's sake (it will make sense some day, trust me.)
Unfortunately, I don't think I can (nor I should) use the already existing Steam page, since, well... The game is pratically a brand new thing. I mean, yeah, the aesthetics are pretty much the same, but the gameplay loop? The lore? The story? Everything has changed so much and I just don't think it's fair for people who wishlisted the game expecting one thing to suddenly realize: "oh, it's different now.".
So yeah: new name, new page coming soon.
The good news in all of this is that this new game can take part in the Steam Next Fest in June, which is cool.
By the end of May the Steam page should be live, but honestly who knows what could happen till then.
Anyway, that is all for today! Thanks for reading this far.
See ya!
Hey everyone!
So, it's been a week since the game has been released, and WOW I did NOT expect it to do... well...
I didn't expect it to do anything at all really!
So many streamers (and big ones for that matter!) played this game only DAYS after release, and it just... feels so surreal!
I'm so, SO incredibly grateful (and super lucky) for the support and attention this small little project has been getting.
Of course, not everything is 100% perfect.
I have a few friends that didn't enjoy this one very much. This sentiment is shared with some other people, and that is OK! Because if I'm being honest? I know I can do better, and I hope that those who didn't enjoy it can, someday, enjoy something else I made.
Water Boiling Simulator isn't me at my best, but it's a taste of what I can do.
Why am I saying this? Because, while being unhappy (and even completely hating the game) is 100% justified and fair, I saw a comment in one gameplay video that kinda got to my nerves. The comment said that they were "99% sure" the game was made by A.I, and that just makes me sad, man.
A.I didn't touch this game, and I take personal offense thinking otherwise.
I take pride in actually doing everything by myself. It's one of the few things I'm pretty annoying about.
You can think the game is cheesy, or just plain stupid, but please don't compare my work to soulless cash-grab slop.
Phew.
Now that I got that out of the way, here is some small trivia and some context on how the game came to be:
This game is actually a REMAKE of a game I made in PICO-8 back in 2021 for a Game Jam that had the theme "Simulator".
It was supposed to be subversion kind of thing. Like a horror you didn't expect.
17 year old me made the original version was made in only 5 days, and was essentially a Five Nights at Freddy's "clone". It was kinda boring, but it had it's charm!
I don't remember what place I got (I think it was 15th out of 80?), but I do remember getting 2nd place in sound design, which was nice.
FUN FACT: The new version of the game actually uses the PICO-8 font in some places, as well as its color palette.
Those cool graphics you see? Everything just clamped to the 32 colors that cool little fantasy console can handle.
Crazy week, thank you for your support, and I hope to see you soon with a new project.
-Tweaked the newspaper object collision shape to prevent it from falling off the floor in the basement.
-Slightly changed the newspaper object placement in the map.
That's it for now! (hopefully we won't see another one of these for a while...)
-Fixed a bug that kept chore progress between runs.
-Added a failsafe in case the player falls down from the map.
-Fixed an issue that prevented the exit confirmation buttons from being clicked with a mouse.
That's it for today, thanks everyone!
Hey!
The game is finally out on Steam!
Thank you for your support.
