Fixed Birds Eye view regression
Fixed more translations
Changed raft buoyancy forces to be less frame rate dependent. This should help with rafts sinking when there are a bunch of buildings on them.
Fixed items not being crafted sometimes. Please let me know if there are any more issues regarding this.
Remove raft camera shake... hopefully no more motion sickness :).
When fishing, you click the mouse to "reel in" the fish. Well that starts applying forces to the fish to get it to come in, but there are other forces already on that fish to keep it floating and to move it back and forth in the water to simulate fighting. All these forces cause along with the reeling force cause a "runaway forces solver" in unreal engine and crashes the game. I was able to replicate this by lowering my frame rate to 10 and it happens basically every time. Higher frame rates will be less likely to hit this bug, but it is still possible. To fix this, I factored in the "delta world time" into the forces being applied by the reeling which will limit the amount of force that builds up every frame.
Cooking Tripod not always cooking. I updated the cooking tripod to scan for all objects below it in case there is something blocking the fire.
Casting fishing line power has been fixed to be more consistent between difference framerates.
Eating and drinking could were not synchronized with the hunger and thirst state degradation. This should now be fixed.
Unlocking tools minigames have been made easier since the point of the game is not to get good at the minigames.
Thanks for everyone's support during Ocean Fest and your continued help in making UNPOC a better game by submitting your bug reports. I will continue to fix them as people find more issues.
-Portuguese Translations
A huge shoutout to my new friend Luiz who was kind enough to fix the Portuguese translations. Go check out his stream and channel: Thank you again.
Please reach out to me if you language translations are also terrible and would like to help make UNPOC available to more people in your region! Also, thank you all for the support during Ocean Fest!
Sunken Temple puzzle - Something ancient is stirring beneath the waves. Scattered across the world are cryptic stone pillars hiding the pieces you’ll need to craft a mysterious compass. Once assembled, it points toward a place long lost to time—a temple buried deep below the surface.
Find the clues, build the compass, and follow where it leads… if you dare.
Mushrooms now scattered around interior island rock formations.
Mushrooms now give a hallucination effect after eating them.
Let me know what you think of the new puzzle here or in the discord!
This month is the one‑year anniversary of UNPOC, and it still feels surreal. When I first launched the game, I hoped people would enjoy this different spin on the survival genre. Something a little calmer, a little more exploratory, a little more about building your own rhythm. What I didn’t expect was how many of you would jump in, share feedback, build incredible bases, and help shape the game into what it is now.
As a first‑time solo dev, I’ve learned a ton this year, mostly from all of you. Every comment, bug report, suggestion, and “hey, my items are falling through the world” message pushed the game forward. You helped me see what worked, what didn’t, and what needed a second (and third) pass. And honestly, that collaboration has been the best part of this whole experience.
Thank you for giving this game a chance, for sticking with it, and for helping me grow it into something I’m really proud of. Here’s to year two. More building, more exploring, and hopefully fewer bugs.
Pirate Flag - Simple raft decor. Just looks cool on your raft when you find a pirate flag.
Stew Pot - This is primary means of eating while travelling between islands. The stew pot can hold many portions of stew at the same time. To make stew, add any mixture of edible ingredients together (6 per portion). Then add water to convert ingredients to portions. To eat a portion of stew the pot must be placed over a campfire or a fireplace.
Pantry - Hold bananas, crabs, coconuts, and eggs. Food preparation station does not yet pull from the pantry, but will in future updates.
Garden plot crops now move with the raft.
Fixed missing translations for tool creations.
Added first aid station help text.
Added ramp to get out of the pirate hideout island more easily.
I know a lot of you put many hours into building and creating amazing looking bases. I originally wanted it to mean something to take the treasure at the end by making the player wager what they had created in order to leave, but I realize this is just cruel to do to players who spend time with creative structures. So now, after you complete the game and get a score, you can reload that same save slot to return to your islands and continue building. If you took the treasure originally, you will not have free play mode granted but you can keep surviving just like before.
If you already completed the game, you will have to complete the escape level again (sorry), in order to access this mode.
Optimized textures to reduce memory footprint.
Also, saved ~2 GB on disk as well.
Improved escape level current and wind mechanics.
Fixed wheel barrow phasing through roofs.
Lowered the level island countdown timer so it is visible for all zoom ranges.
New buildings
Chicken Trap - Used to trap chickens that are discovered lurking around X's on the islands.
Chicken Coup - Can be loaded with chickens to receive eggs. Each chicken loaded into the coup produces 1 egg every 1/2 day.
Guitar Stand - Decoration used to play a short song snippet written and played by Nick Lyon. Special thanks goes out to Nick for his collaboration!
Recently Eaten Food Display
Now all foods that will give degraded nutrition are shown under the Food survival stat bar. You no longer have to count veggies between fish. Any food shown in this list will not provide very good nutrition. Eat something else!
Also, added a message to the user indicating when they do not follow this rule.
Added missing translations.
Fixed book shelf and fish trophy snapping to raft issue.
Fixed building collision error around treasure traps.
Barrels now float.
Fixed barrels falling through the world sometimes when untying from the raft.
Update floor rotation options.
Fixed cage trap not removing itself fast enough.
New buildings
Chimney - Lets you decorate more with fires inside your houses
Book shelf - Stores books that you collection on a shelf. Best placed on walls.
Transport Barrels - Long time feature request, but you can now build transport barrels of any kind on your raft for transportation to different islands.
Chickens
More to come with chickens but chicken traps (like monkeys) will guard X's on islands. This provides a little more variety while I continue to build more things to do with the chickens.
Calling your Dolphin
You can now summon your dolphin to the closest island using the red GPS buoys.
Increase building radius by 50%.
Sails can no longer be placed on the raft seat location.
Thank you all for the great ideas and I'll continue working on the more complicated ones.
Wheelbarrows / Carts would become un-interactable when left near the surf. They would continue to roll to the bottom of the ocean. This is now fixed and carts will no longer roll away.
Reduced rain probability. Feedback was indicating that it rains too much. Let me know if this needs to be reduced even further.
Slightly increased the lever island timer so that it is easier to solve the lever puzzle.
Please keep finding and sending me any issues or feature you'd like to see fixed or added.
There is a new building that can be used to more compactly store stone, metal scraps, and metal bars.
Crab trap line is no longer getting stuck to your crab trap. This would happen if you pressed the deploy key while picking up the crab trap.
Campfire collision no longer causes issues building cooking racks on rafts.
Roofs will no longer prevent fish trophies to be placed on interior walls of a house.
Sorry for the delay in bugfixes and improvements recently. While taking a bit of a break from UNPOC and working on my next project, I started having some PC stability issues. Those are now resolved and any bugs and improvements for UNPOC are back on the table. Thanks for your patience. Also, anyone interested in continuing to support my game development and alpha testing my next project (still in early, early development) can check it out on the steam store Route Protocol and join the Route Protocol Discord
Fields of Jellyfish now have a chance to drift into your region as you are exploring the waters. Jellyfish have a potent sting that will reduce your hydration by 75% over 3 minutes.
Eels now inhabit coral reefs. Be on the lookout while harvesting coral so that you don't get poisoned by one. If so, you will become 75% more exhausted over 3 minutes.
A nasty squid also pops up surprisingly that if you aren't careful can ink you. This comes increases your hunger by 75% over 3 minutes.
Sharks now lurk near shipwrecks. Keep an eye on them while you look for chests or you run the risk of being bitten. Shark bites will reduce all survival stats by 75% over 3 minutes.
The First Aid Station will allow you to address any negative effects received from the newly added animals.
Treat stings with coconut oils, cure poisons with coral medicine, wash ink using water, and wrap bites with cloth bandages.
First Aid Station requires 2 Driftwood, 2 Cloth, and 1 Book to build.
Since books were previously only a rare collectible item, luggage suitcases now have a 20% chance to also drop a book.
Thirst, hunger, and exhaustion stats are now depleted 50% slower. This should make it easier to obtain more positive grades. Please report back if it seems to easy now.
Chests from shipwrecks now have a 65% chance of dropping scrap metal. This was increased from before to enable more advanced buildings to be obtained more easily.
Scrapping wooden barrels now requires an axe instead of a pickaxe. Scrapping metal barrels still requires a pickaxe.
Scrapped wooden barrels now provide 2 driftwood while scrapped metal barrels now provide 2 scrap metal.
Since I've been adding more and more buildings that require driftwood or boards, you can now split wood logs obtained from cutting down trees to make driftwood. Each wood log will provide 2 driftwood.
I also added a wood storage building that holds all types of wood. Wood, driftwood, and boards can be stored and used from the wood storage building.
I look forward to hearing everyone's feedback for these changes and let me know what else you'd like to see before I make the official 1.0 release, which will happen before the end of the year. While there is always the potential to add additional features after that, I expect that most of the updates will focus on any bugfixes that need to be addressed, accessibility/localization adjustments, or small decor additions. Thank you all for the support and kind words I've received over the past 7 months. It has been such a positive experience for me on my first game and I've learned a lot about what it means to publish a game.
Russian localizations have been updated by Emer, a member of our community who graciously volunteered to correct my first draft of Russian translations. If you play 'U.N.P.O.C.' using Russian translations, please join me in thanking Emer! Amazing job!
This is our second volunteer to help UNPOC to be more accessible in other languages. While I have given it a first pass, the translations are often incorrect. Please contact me on Steam or Discord if you would like to contribute translations for a language that you would enjoy playing UNPOC in.
Free Look Camera Control - A popular request to be able to adjust the angle of the camera. While I like the camera management system in UNPOC, I agree that sometimes it is nice to be able to tilt the camera around to explore underwater or to look out toward the horizon. Now, while holding right click, you can pan and tilt the camera around to get a better view of your surroundings. Let me know what you all thing!
Zoom in further - You can also zoom in a little bit closer to the character.
GPS Buoys - Sometimes it is difficult to find out where you are in the world especially when there are lots of islands. GPS Buoys now exists far off shore of every spawned in island. These buoys can be interacted with to show you where you are on the map using there GPS sensors on-board.
Added a tip to help new players get started down the right path - I've noticed sometimes, it isn't obvious to players what they should even be doing once landing on an island for the first time. I've added some guidance in a tip.
Added outlining to help text that shows up on the screen - It was hard to read before in sunny conditions. Much better now.
A stone sundial - You must orient the placement correctly for this to provide any real use.
Can now carry 2 crabs at a time.
Fish Trophies now always orient correctly when placed. NOTE: Currently cannot place fish trophies while inside. I'm still working on fixing this.
Fixed raft side barrel interaction distance. Previously the side barrels had way to big of an interaction distance which caused other tools placed on the raft hard to use after reloading a save file.
Ensured "Sorry Captain" Dialog only ever plays once.
Items falling through the ground - Now using Unreal Engine's substepping physics setting to allow physics collisions to run separate from the rendering frames. This should reduce the chance that items fall through the ground. I will continue to monitor for feedback regarding this issue.
Resources overlapping other things that are interactable were difficult to pickup and interact with. The interaction system now uses prioritization system to resolve conflicts instead of just proximity. Resources are highest priority followed by resource piles, then tools and buildings. This should allow you to resolve interaction conflicts more easily.
Help text errors fixed.
Fixed actions UI spacing issues.
Updated fishing basket's "store fish" action to be more consistent with dropping resources for better usability.
Added a fishing trophy.
Removed the random fire that existed on location \ in the world.
NEW - Clay walls (all 3 models)
INFO - Added description of eating fish nutrition mechanic.
NEW - Added more decoration items to find on islands. These items can be placed on tables and nightstands for decoration.
NEW - Added 'Knowledge Base' panel next to Grades and Map where all previously viewed tips will be located as a reference as well as a 'Resources Index' used to track all discoverable items in the game. NOTE: For existing save games, the knowledge base will start empty but populate as you pick resources up and do actions that previously showed tips.
NEW There is a dolphin now that needs your help. Once you earn his trust you will be able to ride around underwater on your new friend. Dolphins have sonars that make it easier to detect shipwrecks underwater. Use the same swim actions to control the dolphin.
BUGFIX Scrap metal and metal bars now have increased hitbox sizes to reduce the chance that they clip into the world never to be seen again.
BUGFIX Chests no longer have camera occlusion making them hard to see when hidden inside shipwrecks.
BUGFIX Log piles are raised up to reduce ground clipping.
(sorry for the poor quality gif)
Let me know what you all think here or in the discord!
Bird nests now spawn on tall rocks and rocky cliff.
2 new cooking recipes: Banana Rice Pudding and Hard Boiled Eggs
Resource labels have been added to loose resources and resource piles. Prepared foods do not have labels yet as I wanted to do a little more with those in the future.
Can now store multiple fish at once in the fishing basket.
Custom Keybindings - You can now change keybindings to better fit your keyboard and mouse. Controllers are still not supported but maybe in the future. I only have a subset of all possible characters on all keyboards but for the "Action" keys, ensure that icons show up correctly to allow the quick time events to be completed successfully. If keys are selected that do not sure icons, then you won't know which quick time event action to press. I will continue to work on this to mitigate this issue.
Interaction labels have better visibility - Label outlines were added to make the labels more readable in different lighting conditions.
Removed glitchy surface swimming animation - Now all swimming animations look the same until I can figure out what is making the other animation so glitchy.
German localizations have been updated by Sirja, a member of our community who graciously volunteered to correct my first draft of German translations. If you play 'U.N.P.O.C.' using German translations, please join me in thanking Sirja! Amazing job!
Monkeys have invaded the islands. Unlike sealions, they can't be trusted.
Resolution Scaling. Some people have experienced a blurriness so I added a 'Resolution Scaling' option in the settings menu to combat this issue. The default is 100% but can be increased to up to 200% to make the graphics more crisp at higher resolutions. This setting does greatly impact FPS so try to find a good balance. You can reduce the setting below 100% if you want to gain FPS at the cost of a more pixelated view. I can't test this on every resolution/monitor/graphics card combo, so please let me know if this change helps or not. Also, this setting does not save yet, and will have to be adjusted every time until I update it.
Raft Covers can now be placed on land as well as on the raft to be used for shade and decoration.
Fixed resources getting stuck on the ground.
Fixed getting stuck in carrying mode when not carrying anything.
Fixed campfires and fireplaces being able to be build on raft.
Fixed inconsistent sizes of resource meshes on raft barrels inventory.
Reduced chance of getting a map piece when digging up an X marks the spot when there are plenty more in the world to discover. 25% chance now instead of 50%.
Bugfix - Gardens now return build materials when destroyed. Planted crops will still be lost.
Improvement - You can now scrap both types of wooden barrels for drift wood.
*NEW* Indoor fireplaces - Same function as the camp fire but it looks better indoors.
*New and Improved* - Better raft storage barrels. Barrels are now limited to 1 resource type per barrel and you can now see the contents of each one. This is a non-backwards compatible persistence change so any existing resources that are stored in barrels will be lost upon game load.
Thanks for all the feedback in the most recent live streams this week. Keep sending your feedback in the discord:https://discord.gg/nuHf2WBNYj
Fish no longer have to be in your hand to use Food Prep Station recipes.
New - Crop Storage can be used to more effectively organize harvested crops.
