"UNDERGROUNDED" has been updated as follows:
Ver.1.0.1 UPDATE
- Fixed an issue where cleared areas could not be accessed from save data created after completing the game
→ To apply this fix, please complete the game again, save your progress, and then reload that save file. Cleared areas will then be accessible as intended.
- Fixed an issue where some control prompts were displayed incorrectly after switching between keyboard and controller input
- Revised some localized text

In this corner, we'll be diving deep into some of the historical and cultural tidbits from the world of UNDERGROUNDED. Maybe, after reading this, you'll see the game's world in a whole new light! Today, we're going to take a look at the mysterious underground tunnel Scott finds inside the subway station. The clean, bright station quickly gives way to something darker and grittier below. First thing to notice? The graffiti. These wall-sized artworks capture the chaotic vibe of New York's underworld. Manhattan really does have tunnels famous for graffiti, like the Riverside Park Tunnel, where layers upon layers of tags and murals create pure urban chaos.
Deeper down the tunnel, Scott runs into an old man. He's one of the so-called "Mole People," folks who actually live in New York's underground. You might think, "So, just a homeless guy?" but reality is more complicated. Some work at fast-food places, some get pensions using a friend's address, and together they form surprisingly organized communities. Many even have furniture, lighting, and TVs—not exactly whad you'd expect when you hear "life in the tunnels."
And then, pipes. Pipes everywhere. Ever wonder what they're for? Believe it or not, New York has been heating and cooling its buildings with steam for over a century. Back in 1876, a man named Birdsill Holly invented a system that could heat an entire skyscraper from a single giant boiler. The Empire State Building and other towers literally owe their existence to it. The catch? Corroding pipes. That iconic shot in movies where steam bursts out of the street? Yeah... that's leaky underground pipes at work.
But the underground holds even stranger relics, like cargo tubes and an abandoned mystery train. These too are rooted in history. In the 19th century, inventor Alfred Ely Beach secretly built an air-powered subway under Manhattan. In just 58 days, he and his crew completed a tunnel and even set up a station decorated with chandeliers and a grand piano. His dream was to cover all of New York with pneumatic trains… but politics killed the project. The tunnel was sealed and forgotten until 1912, when workers digging the city's first real subway stumbled on its remains.
That wasn't the end of air-powered travel, though. New York later built a network of pneumatic mail tubes, zipping letters and packages around the city much faster than horse-drawn delivery. The pipes Scott uses in the game are a nod to that quirky piece of history.
So, from modern-day steam to 19th-century forgotten trains, our underground journey has hopped back and forth through time. But next time, we'll step into something even stranger: the very underground dungeon where history itself is all mashed together. Don't miss it!

For our first digging session, instead of looking at the underground world Scott explores, we'll take a peek at what comes before that... That's right, the bustling streets and stations of Manhattan!
Here's the heart of the city that you start the game in. Speaking of hearts, it's also where Scott's heart gets broken. Ouch.
But let's forget about that and focus on how energetic the place is. The city just feels alive!
This street corner was inspired by Times Square 42nd Street Station, and City Hall Station.
If you look closely, you can see a deli, some glittering Broadway ads, and more NYC goodness.
Now, Scott drops his ring down a storm drain. To chase after it, he has to head underground, into the subway station.
The first thing he sees there s a colorful mural. The real Manhattan subway is full of art like this. So much so that it feels like being in a museum while you're commuting.
Check out all the posters plastered on the walls.
One of them talks about a man who's lost everything and has to fight to reclaim it... Wait, that kind of sounds like Scott's story, doesn't it?
Then there's this weirdly poetic ad for an energy drink. It talks about wanting to go back home, but also about trying again... As it turns out, there's a real-life inspiration for this too.
It's based on a poem you can spot between the 42nd Street Port Authority and Times Square stations. The verses are scattered across the ceiling, catching the eye of weary commuters and giving them a small boost of courage, as if the station was cheering them on.
In UNDERGROUNDED, we've tried to squeeze that very same feeling into one small poster.
To reach the platform and keep searching for the ring, Scott has to pass through a ticket gate. And for that, he needs a metro card. But here's something you might not know. Those metro cards? They're going to be phased out by the end of 2025.
So, if you play UNDERGROUNDED 10 years from now, you may even feel nostalgic about them.
In Japan, our train stations ticket gates automatically flap open. But in NYC, you're as likely to see an actual turnstile. We've redesigned them a bit for the game, but in real life, those things can be as tall as a person.Scott finally makes it down to the platform, but there's no sign of his ring.

高リフレッシュレートのモニターをしている場合、
ゲーム内ゲーム「THUNDERBIRD」にて、プレイヤーの左右移動が極端に遅くなることがある。
不具合が修正されるまでの一時的な対策にはなりますが、
「モニターのリフレッシュレートを下げる（60Hzなど）」
ことで症状が改善されることを確認しております。
近日中に修正のアップデートを予定しております。
※6月6日にアップデートを実施いたしました。
ご迷惑をおかけいたしますが、
アップデートが完了するまでの間は、上記対応をお試しいただけますと幸いです。
