Trials of Fire 1.05 Release Notes Happy weekend, This week’s update focuses on bugs and some balance changes. • ‘Pommel Strike’ (Warrior) – Decreased Melee Damage to 1 (from 2).
• ‘Shield Master’ (Warrior) – Reduced cost to 0 (from 1).
• ‘Overwatch’ (Hunter) – Reduced damage to 3 (from 4).
• ‘Shadow’ (Assassin) – Increased Resilience to 6 (from 4).
• ‘Channel Spirit’ (Spirit Speaker) – Increased Resilience to 6 (from 4).
• ‘Earthfire’ (Spirit Spear) – Increased damage multiplier to 3 (from 2).
• ‘Study’ – Increased cost to 1.

Boss Balance

• Increased health on all Tier 4 + 5 bosses to tweak their difficulty a little bit.

Bugs

• Fixed a strange issue when re-shuffling cards that could sometimes cause them to go into the wrong deck.
• Fixed graphics settings being reset to default when creating a new profile.
• Fixed the cursor disappearing when exiting an adventure after using a gamepad and switching back to mouse.
• Fixed gamepad not interacting with the options menu.

Trials of Fire 1.04 Release Notes Happy weekend, This week’s update includes gamepad (controller) support for playing the game. We’d appreciate feedback from players on this feature before we go about integrating it into the game’s tutorials so please let us know what you think! Hero Balance

• Reduces Spirit Speaker ‘Empower’ talent Defence bonus to +1.
  • Spirit Speaker is the most successful hero class right now – with a lot of decks relying on ‘Force Field’ for big team-wide defence. We’ll monitor the effect of this change on his playstyle.

Boss Balance

• Improved the deck of the Charred Sun Priest a bit to increase difficulty.
• Lowered Willpower on the Lurker.

Cataclysm Changes

• Changed Cataclysm 8 effect to, 'Bosses draw extra cards equal to half their Tier (rounded down),' in order to give a more even challenge.

Bugs

• Fixed a rare issue where a quest objective could appear in an unreachable location.

Trials of Fire 1.03 Release Notes Happy Friday, This update focuses on some Tutorial updates for new players and some new modifiers to allow players to enjoy the game differently. We’ve also toned down the late game bosses slightly on Medium. Now that they all seem to be sitting at a more even level, we’re toning them all down slightly. Thanks! Feature Updates

• Custom portraits will now be remembered for each class until you change it.

Tutorial Updates

• Added Redrawing tutorial to the basic Combat Tutorial.
• Added a tutorial for Underway (cavern) entrances.

Modifiers Added the following optional game modifiers.

• Added ‘Three Lives’ modifier.
  • You will be able to restart battles up to 3 times in a run after being defeated.
• Added ‘Flesh Wound’ modifier.
  • Being defeated in a non-main path battle will not result in a game over.

Boss Balance

• Reduced the difficulty of Tier 3+ bosses slightly on Medium.

Bugs

• Fixed another issue with the Giant Worm head getting on top of its body.
• Fixed the Dread Fly not being able to move or attack over obstacles.
• Fixed being able to hone an item more than once.
• Fixed ‘Juba’s Skull’ and ‘Rinn’s Manual’ legendaries not working properly together.
• Stability fixes.

Trials of Fire 1.02 Release Notes Hello all, What a week! It’s been a super exciting time for us since the 1.0 launch last Friday. We’ve been gathering tons of feedback and data from all our new players that will really help us make the game even better going forward. This week’s update addresses some of the bugs that have been appearing and some small tweaks to the game’s bosses to make the challenge a bit more consistent at each boss tier. For the next week or two we will be focusing on:

• Updated tutorials to help teach new players some of the mechanics that can still be unclear.
• A handful of new modifiers to allow you to play differently.
• More balance changes based on new player feedback and data.

• Fixed player getting stuck in the Combat Run quest if you leave the game while camping.
• Fixed the Hybrid Berserker advancing onto the same space as their allies.
• Fixed the Giant Worm head from sometimes appearing on top of its body after being pushed/pulled.

Boss Balance

• Increased the Willpower of the Green Dragon.
• Reduced the Willpower of the Red Dragon.
• Reduced the Willpower of Lurker.

Trials of Fire 1.0 Release

Hi everyone, This update sees Trials of Fire transitioning out of Early Access and into full release. It’s been an exciting ride to get here with our debut game and we’re glad that so many of you are playing and enjoying Trials of Fire already. Along with the latest update, we also have a digital Artbook and Map as well as the game’s official Soundtrack available from Steam. If you prefer you can get all 3 in the collector’s Inferno Bundle. As always, we want to express our thanks for the awesome support of our Early Access community who were so instrumental in getting us to this point - both with your support and feedback. It's no understatement to say we wouldn't be here without you! Also note that along with the 1.0 release, we are resetting the game's leaderboards to give everyone a fighting chance with all the changes since the last leaderboard reset. Thanks! Whatboy Games Trials of Fire 1.005 Release Notes This update marks us moving out of Early Access and into full release. Update highlights include a brand new playable Hero, a rework to the Assassin’s Stealth mechanic and a host of updates to item based cards. New Hero – The Occultist

• Communes with otherworldly powers to deal damage or buff your party. Beware though, such power always comes with a price.
• Ranged damage dealer or support character.
• Many of their abilities will do damage or place negative named effects on themself, but others will grow stronger as they take damage or get more afflicted.
• Has the unique ability to remove cards from the battle to thin your deck on the fly or remove weaknesses.

Instant Cards

• Many created cards have now been re-branded as ‘Instant’.
• These function largely the same, as before, but are now removed from the game automatically when ending your turn (and do not count towards your 1 held card limit).
• Instant is a new keyword with the following effects:
  • May not be Recycled or Redrawn.
  • Automatically removed from the battle at the end of your turn.
• This keyword replaces the text on many cards.

Stealth Rework

• We’ve reworked the Stealth named effect to better suit the Assassin’s playstyle.
• Stealth now has no immediate effect and ticks down like any other named effect.
• If you can maintain stealth until the start of your turn, it triggers some powerful new abilities.
• Stealth effect:
  • Cannot be targeted by enemies unless they are adjacent.
  • Every time you are hit, lose 1 stack of Stealth.
  • At the start of your turn, gain +2 to Melee and Ranged damage for the turn and add a Move Unseen card to your hand.
• Move Unseen token card – ‘Move 1 + your Stealth stacks, ignoring enemies.’

Hero Changes

• The Spirit Speaker now has a Heavy Armour slot instead of Light Armour to allow for a bit of extra tankiness.
• The Assassin no longer has access to Heavy Armour to slightly reduce their tankiness.

Language Update

• Russian localisation now fully implemented.

Profile Management

• You may now have up to 4 separate save profiles on your machine to allow other household members to play on one machine.

Item Card Review

• We’ve updated a lot of the weaker item cards to make sure more items are viable in high-level builds.
• Most of these buffs come in the form of powerful, conditional effects to boost the cards based on how you play them. This

Card Changes

• ‘Fly’ – Changed effect to, ‘Move to any free space. Any Magic Damage cards in hand gain +1 to damage.’
• ‘Quick Shot’ – Changed effect to, ‘Ranged Attack 1, then draw a card. Deal +2 damage if your previous card played was a Move card.’
• ‘Quick Thinking’ – Changed basic effect to, ‘Look at the top 3 cards of your deck and choose one to draw. Refresh your Talent.’
• ‘Chaos Missiles’ – Changed effect to, ‘Deal 3 Magic Damage to all enemies within 3 spaces. Deal +2 damage if you have 5+ Defence.
• ‘Wing Smash’ – Now deals Magic Damage.
• ‘Reel In’ – Changed effect to, ‘Ranged Attack 1 then Pull the target 3 Spaces. Afterwards, if the target is adjacent to you, draw a card.’
• ‘Lunge’ – Changed effect to, ‘Move 1 to Target, Melee Attack 3. Every time you play a card, increase movement by 1.’
• ‘Strike Through’ – Changed effect to, ‘Melee Attack 3 or Ranged Attack 2. Also hits anyone directly behind the target. If you hit 2 targets, gain 1 Willpower.’
• ‘Sleep Dart’ – Changed effect to, ‘Ranged Attack 2. For every 2 damage dealt, shuffle a temporary Fatigue card into target's deck.’
• ‘Dark Rite’ – Changed effect to, ‘Melee Attack 2. If you deal damage, take 1 raw damage and gain +1 to Magic Damage for the rest of the battle.’
• ‘Reach’ – Increased cost to 1 (from 0).
• ‘Armoured Advance’ – Changed effect to, ‘Move 2, Defend 3 and gain 1 Willpower. Shuffle an Exhausted card into your deck.’
• ‘Wide Sweep’ - Changed effect to, ‘Melee Attack 5 on all adjacent enemies. If you hit 2 or more targets, draw a Defend card from your deck or discard pile.’
• ‘Fearsome Shout’ – Changed effect to, ‘All enemies within Range 2 are inflicted with Exposed and discard a card. Gain 1 Willpower for every WEAKNESS card in hand.’
• ‘Rage’ – Changed effect to, ‘Draw 2 cards. Gain 1 Willpower for every WEAKNESS card in hand. Shuffle a Fatigue into your deck.’
• ‘Detonate’ – Reduced cost to 1 and changed effect to, ‘Destroy a friendly Summoned character and deal Magic Damage to all adjacent characters equal to the health of the destroyed unit.
• ’Piercing Arrow’ – Changed effect to, ‘Unblockable Ranged Attack 3. If you spent 0 Willpower for this card, remove Defence equal to the damage dealt.’
• ‘Phosphor Arrow’ – Changed effect to, ‘Ranged Attack 5. If the target is Burning, deal 3 Magic Damage to all enemies within 2 spaces.’
• ‘Coordinate’ – Changed effect to, ‘Target other friendly Hero draws 1 card. If the target has any named effects, Activate yourself.’
• ‘Improvise’ – Changed effect to, ‘Target friendly Hero upgrades a card in hand and reduces its cost by 1.’
• ‘Last Stand’ – Increased defence bonus to 2 for each point of health below 10 (from 1).
• ‘Aimed Shot’ – Changed effect to, ‘Ranged Attack 8. This card cannot be played. Cancel this effect at the end of your turn or when you play a Power on yourself.’
• ‘Grit’ – Changed effect to, ‘Gain Protected 2 then Defend 2.’
• ‘Think Ahead’ – Reduced cost to 0 and changed effect to, ‘Shuffle 2 cards from Shiv, Simple Shot and Guard into your deck. The next time you draw cards this turn, draw 1 extra card.’
• ‘Insult’ (Warlord) – Changed effect to, ‘Inflict Defenceless 2 to an enemy character or grant Inspired 2 to a friendly character. Inflict +1 stack for every WEAKNESS card in hand.’
• ‘Intimidate’ (Warrior) – Changed effect to, ‘Inflict Weakened 2 on all enemies within 2 spaces. Inflict +1 stack for every WEAKNESS card in hand.’
• ‘Unstable Flask’ (Alchemist) – Changed upgraded effect to, ‘Choose 1 from 3 random BASIC cards to create in your hand and reduce its Willpower cost by 1. Then do this a second time.’
• ‘Elixir of Power’ (Alchemist) – Increased card options to 4 (from 2).
• ‘Run+’ – Changed effect to, ‘Move 4 and gain 1 Willpower. Activate.’
• ‘Momentum’ (Warrior) – Changed effect to, ‘Defend 2. If your last card played was a Melee Attack card, draw a card.’
• ‘Stalk’ – Increased Resilience to 3 (from 1).
• ‘Battle Ready’ – Increased cost to 4 (from 3).
• ‘Teamwork’ – Increased cost to 1 (from 0).
• ‘Sneak’ (Assassin) – Now grants Stealth 2 (up from 1).
• ‘Hidden Shot’ (Assassin) – Now grants Stealth 2 (up from 1).
• ‘Smoke Bomb’ (Assassin) – Now grants Stealth 2 (up from 1) and increased cost to 2 (from 1).
• ‘Shadow Strike’ (Assassin) – Changed effect to, ‘Ranged Attack 2 then move to the closest free space adjacent to the target. If you have Stealth, gain 1 Willpower.’
• ‘Opening’ (Assassin) – Reduced damage to 2 (from 3).
• ‘Low Profile’ (Assassin) – Increased cost to 1 (from 0).

Boss Changes

• Increased the Willpower of the Red Dragon.
• Reduced the Willpower of the Planar.
• Reworked Blue Dragon deck a bit to increase challenge slightly.

Endless Odyssey

• Standard (non) boss encounters will now ‘level up’ with every 5 objectives completed.
• Enemies’ health will increase by 100% and they will draw 1 extra card each turn.
• Enemy numbers will be reduced by 50%.
• This is to stop the difficulty of these encounters being limited by the 9 unit maximum and to introduce more variety for those players fighting on in this mode.
• Random (non-objective) boss encounters will also now increase in difficulty the further in you go.

Cataclysm Changes

• Cataclysm 6 effect is now, ‘Bosses gain an additional 15% health and Power resilience bonus per Tier.’ Top Tier bosses now have a 200% bonus to Power resilience.

Hello everyone, With the 1.0 launch fast approaching on Friday, I want to clarify what will be happening over the next couple of weeks, both for our existing players and new visitors to the page.

Friday April 9th

To start it all off on the 9th, we will be releasing the 1.0 update along with some digital extras (an Official Soundtrack and digital Artbook) as standalone or part of a Collector’s Edition bundle. At this point, we will not be raising the price to our planned post-Early Access pricing, and in fact be offering a launch discount of 10% for a week.

Friday April 16th

The following week, once the launch discount has finished, we will also be increasing the price of the game to our post-1.0 price of $19.99. As a big thank you to our Early Access community, we will be offering free access to all the digital extras to everyone who has purchased the game prior to this announcement and joined our Discord server. Trials of Fire v0.89 Release Notes Happy Monday everyone. This week’s update is not going to be too exciting for our existing players I’m afraid. We’ve updated the game tutorials and tool-tips to help new players into the game more smoothly. This update will also be the last Weekly Update before our 1.0 launch soon. We’re also looking at balancing out the Heroes’ class cards by tackling cards that are selected too or too much. Trials of Fire v0.87 Release Notes Happy Friday everyone. This week’s update includes a bunch of new achievements and some balance changes and bug fixes. I’ve been working on gamepad support this week, but it’s not quite ready for prime time yet, plus, a bunch of improvement to our final Hero for 1.0 release next month. Can’t wait to share more! Trials of Fire v0.86 Release Notes Happy weekend everyone. This week’s update features new story and event content as well as a big rebalance pass on a lot of the enemies. The game has gotten a bit too forgiving with some of the recent changes to player options and Powers. This update should make encounters a bit more challenging across the board, but without an increase in enemy numbers. If you are scared, most of these changes will not affect Easy mode. • All Landmark events are now bespoke.
• Added new ‘glasslands’ events to increase the variation on these locations.

Card Updates

• ‘Grapple’ – Reduced Melee Damage to 4 (from 5).

Balance Updates

• Upgraded some of the Basic Action cards on the lower-performing enemies.
• Upgraded deck of some of the weaker act 2 enemies.
• Reworked the Necromancer deck to give them options to escape from being cornered and more reliable access to summons.
• All bosses beyond Tier 1 now draw an additional card each turn. (Medium difficulty and above).

• ‘Planar’ – Reduced health.

• This has 97% of text translated, but some of the newer text is still not complete.

Card Updates

• ‘Rage’ – Updated effect to ‘Draw 2 cards. Add an Exhausted card to the top of your deck.’
• ‘Force Field’ – Reduced Defence to 2 (from 3).
• ‘Uncanny Defence’ – Increased Defence to 2-6 (from 2-5).

Bug Fixes

• Fixed ‘Channel Spirit’ (Shaman) from not triggering properly.

Trials of Fire v0.81 Release Notes This week’s update contains a change to the way some overworld encounters are distributed to give the player more of a meaningful choice on where to travel next. • Forest and glasslands events no longer lead to combat.
• This is to differentiate these events from ruins and roaming encounters.
• Added more variety of combat events to roaming enemies.

UI Updates

• Hovering over crafting materials displays the equipped items that it can help upgrade.

Card Updates

• ‘Flourish’ (Assassin) – Updated effect to ‘Defend 2 + your current Melee Damage bonus x2.’

Balance Updates

• Updated ‘Devil Moth’ deck to make it a little easier – particularly at higher Cataclysm levels.
• Increased challenge rating of ‘Human Shaman’, ‘Bandit Lord’ and ‘Basilisk Spitter’

Trials of Fire v0.79 Release Notes Happy 2021 Everybody! This week’s update contains a big change to Defence to provide defensive options to go with the Power change from before xmas. Also, a couple of nerfs to some over-tuned Tier 4 bosses. Let us know what you think on Discord! Defence Changes

• Unspent, Recycled cards now provide 2 Defence instead of 1.
• The ‘Defend’ card has been removed from all Heroes’ starting decks and replaced with cards appropriate to that class.
• IMPORTANT: Weakness cards now provide no defence when recycled and will always be spent 1st when spending recycled cards for Willpower or movement.

Card Changes

• ‘Force Field’ – Now provides 3 Defence (up from 2).
• ‘Demonic Pact’ – Provides 2 Willpower (up from 1).
• ‘Resilience’ (Warrior) – Provides 3 Defence per turn (up from 2) and 3 Defence when played.
• ‘Bulwark’ (Warrior) – Provides 7 Defence (up from 6).
• ‘Revulsion’ (Witch) – Provides 3 Defence (up from 2).

Boss Balance Changes

• ‘Red Dragon’ – Reduced cards per turn by 1.
• ‘Lurker’ – Reduced cards per turn by 1.

Trials of Fire v0.78 Release Notes Merry Christmas everyone, This Christmas update includes a big change to the way Powers work in game to prevent multiple Powers on a single Hero protecting each other. Also some fun Christmas cosmetics (which you can disable in the options menu if you would prefer!). Let us know what you think on Discord! Power Changes

• Powers now no longer come with an inherent Defence bonus.
• This is to keep things a bit simpler and to and to prevent additional Powers from protecting existing ones.

Card Changes

• All class focus cards (Adrenaline, Cantrip etc.) – Increased Resilience to 8.
• ‘Resilience’ (Warrior) – Increased Resilience to 8.
• ‘Iron Skin’ – Increased Resilience to 6.
• ‘Elite’ – Decreased cost to 1 (from 2).
• ‘Reach’ – Increased cost to 1, Resilience to 5 and changed effect to, ‘When an enemy moves into an adjacent space, draw a card.’
• ‘Battle Stance’ – Updated effect to, ‘All Attacks deal +2 Damage. On Play: Defend 3.’
• ‘Take Aim’ (Hunter) – Increased cost to 1 and changed effect to, ‘All attacks on a single target deal bonus damage equal to the Resilience of this Power. After attacking, this Power loses 1 Resilience.’
• ‘Supported’ (Hunger) – Increased Resilience to 4.
• ‘Stalk+’ – Changed upgraded effect to, ‘Adjacent enemies do not prevent you from performing Combo Strikes.’
• ‘Overload’ (Elementalist) – Reduced Resilience to 4.
• ‘Abjuration+’ – Changed upgraded effect to ‘On Play: Defend 3.’
• ‘Lethality’ (Assassin) – Reduced Resilience to 4.
• ‘Fire Shield’ (Elementalist) – Increased cost to 1 and changed effect to, ‘"Whenever you are attacked by an adjacent enemy, inflict Burning 2 on the attacker. On Play: Defend 3.’

UI Changes

• • Remaining health on Powers can be previewed in battle.

Boss Balance Changes

• ‘Green Dragon’ – Increased Health a bit.
• ‘Death Guard’ – Increased Health a bit.
• 'Lurker' - Reduced Willpower by 1.
• ‘Blue Dragon’ – Increased Willpower by 1 to match the ‘Planar’.

Trials of Fire v0.77 Release Notes Good afternoon all, This week’s update focuses on a bit more boss balancing to even out the ‘Trial of Fire’ mode. Also, we’re trying out a much-requested feature to aid in exploring the Glasslands. Let us know what you think on Discord! Mini Map

• Added a mini map to aid in exploration.
• Will show the surrounding geography.
• Large structures (ruins/towns) will be shown on the map.
• Smaller encounters will not show up so look out for these as you travel.

Boss Changes

• Increased difficulty of ALL bosses above Tier 1 a bit.
• Lowered ‘Lurker’ difficulty.
• Increased ‘Green Dragon’ difficulty.
• Increased ‘Blue Dragon’ difficulty.

Card Changes

• ‘Equality’ (Warlord) – Changed name to ‘Tenacity’ and updated effect to, ‘Gain +1 damage to all attacks per named effect stack on this character.’

Trials of Fire v0.76 Release Notes Good afternoon all, This week’s update focuses on balancing difficulty a bit across the adventure. Some changes here to make it easier to come back from a couple of bad battles without overly rewarding players who get through unscathed. Also a couple of new Class Cards and boss updates to look out for. Let us know what you think on Discord! Adventure Progress These changes have been made to make it a bit easier to recover from a bad situation without it snowballing out of control.

• After completing an objective, each Hero recovers some health and heals a single random injury.
• Reduced food and herb rewards at the objective to compensate.
• Moving on roads now speeds up party movement.

Boss Changes

• ‘Lurker’
  • Burrow ability now triggers after taking 15% of starting health damage. So it is less stop-start at higher difficulty levels.
  • Added a tracker (hover over the Lurker) to see how much damage still to go.
  • ‘Lurker Tentacles’ now activate on the turn they are spawned as they used to – updated the wording to make this clearer.
• ‘Blue Dragon’
  • Changed defensive ability to be a flat ‘Melee, Ranged and Magic Resist 1.’ This serves the same purpose as the previous ability (encouraging big hits), but hopefully less frustrating to play with.
  • Increased health a bit to compensate.
• Cataclysm 6
  • Cataclysm 6 bonus is now ‘Bosses gain an additional 15% health per Tier,’ so health bonus ramps up the later they appear in the adventure. (Tier 1 bosses now have less health).

Card Changes

• Added new class card for the Elementalist and Witch to help with weaker play-styles.
• ‘Icefire Aura’ (Elementalist) – Changed effect to ‘Whenever an adjacent enemy gains Burning, they also gain Chilled, and vice-versa.’ This is to make this ability simpler to understand and allow you to trigger it multiple times a turn for maximum effectiveness.

Trials of Fire v0.75 Release Notes Good afternoon all, This week’s update is mainly some cosmetic and game mode changes. We’ve been working on some other cool stuff for (from?) the future, so keep your eyes peeled. Let us know what you think on Discord! Trial of Fire Mode

• Custom game mode has been rebranded to ‘Trial of Fire’.
• This mode is now the main mode and includes leaderboards for different game lengths.
• Trying to make this the ‘go-to’ mode for replaying over and over again.
• You can choose between Short (2 objectives), Standard (3 objectives) and Long (4 objectives) depending on how long you have to play.
• Will be focused on balancing all the bosses for fun and difficulty and making this mode as replayable as possible leading up to 1.0 release.
