Operation System Override took Rainbow Six Siege by storm when it launched on June 2, bringing a major Dokkaebi rework, the new-yet-familiar Calypso Casino map, and a competitive overhaul with Ranked 3.0. Now, halfway through the season, the development team is implementing additional Operator balancing, mouse and keyboard support for consoles, a limited-time event, a Ranked map rotation, and rotating Operator trials.
The fan-favorite limited-time event is back, bringing Siege’s intense tactical gameplay into a fast-paced, 1v1 duel environment. A pure test of your skill, the 1v1 arcade is filled with short, high-intensity matches that focus on gunplay, movement, and gadget skill. Gameplay was designed based on community feedback, and features shorter matches, less downtime, and more variety. Some changes from the last iteration include:
Updated map pool: House has been removed, with Coastline, Consulate, and Outback added. There are 5 total maps (up from 3)
Bomb sites are now automatically revealed
Reduced prep phase duration
Attrition replaces Operator bans – winning players can no longer select the Operator they used in the previous round
Now uses Ranked skill table for matchmaking (instead of Quick Match data)
New players without a Ranked rating will receive an initial skill estimate
The 1v1 arcade is out now and runs for two weeks, so don’t miss a moment of the action!
Several Operators have been slightly rebalanced to help improve fair, competitive gameplay; make them more versatile in gameplay; and help cement their role in an Attacker or Defender lineup.

Native mouse and keyboard support on consoles is officially here, covering gameplay, UI, and system interactions. Text chat is also available to all members of squads that have mouse and keyboard players for seamless team communication.
To ensure competitive fairness, the game will automatically detect what input you’re using, and mouse and keyboard players will be placed in the PC crossplay matchmaking pool. Mousetrap enforcement remains active for players who attempt to circumvent these matchmaking rules.
A mid-season update means a Ranked map rotation to help keep the competitive experience feel fresh and varied.

Since its introduction, Marketplace has been a meaningful step forward for trading and player-driven economy in Rainbow Six Siege, but it has also revealed important new challenges, both in player security and in how the in-game economy functions overall.
We’ve seen harmful behaviors like account theft, botting, and credit transfers, with a significant share of transactions tied to malicious activity. At the same time, the Marketplace introduced economic issues such as pricing instability, distorted item circulation, and broader imbalances.
Reintroducing it today would bring back both security risks and economic disruption, which is why we need to focus on rebuilding a safer, fairer, and more robust system. This includes stronger account protection, better monitoring tools, and a trading system that fits within a balanced in-game economy. Alongside this work, we’re also making adjustments to the broader economy to improve how players access and experience content.
Starting in Season 3, new event packs will transition to R6 Credits only. M.U.T.E. Protocol: Flesh & Metal and Rengoku will be the final events where new collection packs can be purchased with Renown. Older collections will, however, return with dual-currency options, creating more opportunities to spend Renown and keeping it meaningful and more rewarding over time.
We’re also making Masterpieces more accessible, one of the key improvements coming to events. Previously, unlocking a Masterpiece required completing an entire collection, limiting access to a small portion of players each season. Going forward, starting with Season 3, you’ll be able to purchase the Masterpiece directly with R6 Credits and it will include event packs.
As we continue rebalancing the economy, Marketplace will remain closed. Reintroducing it is not only a matter of fixes; it requires rebuilding key foundations to address both security and economic challenges in a sustainable way.
Our goal is to build a system that protects players and delivers a fair, rewarding, and lasting in-game economy for all. This is a long-term effort, and while that work continues behind the scenes, our immediate focus is on delivering gameplay improvements.
Following the rollout of Ranked 3.0, the team addressed several key topics raised by the community, focusing on clarity, fairness, and long-term competitive integrity.
Placement Matches & Progression Placements this season were designed to reveal a player's existing skill level from the previous system, Ranked 2.0, where ranking was tied to hidden MMR. The goal was to make that skill level visible again at the start of the season. However, the team acknowledged that placements didn't feel impactful enough for many players. Adjustments are already planned so placement matches will carry more weight in determining starting rank in future seasons.
Champion Rank Philosophy Champion is intended to represent sustained, high-level performance and not a short snapshot at the start of a season. Because of this, players cannot place directly into Champion. Instead, it must be earned through consistent performance over time in a constantly evolving competitive environment that includes new operators, maps, and balancing updates.
KDA and Rank KDA is not a factor in rank progression. Siege prioritizes teamwork and impact, where roles like support, intel gathering, and utility usage can be just as impactful as eliminations. The system is designed to reward winning as a team rather than individual stat performance.
Rank Distribution Players highlighted issues with rank distribution early in the season, particularly clustering in higher ranks. This is not intended for long-term experience, and future adjustments to placement matches aim to create clearer separation between ranks and improve matchmaking quality.
System Improvements Already in Progress The team has already implemented several updates based on feedback and live data:
Minimum Rank Point gains were introduced to prevent progression from feeling stalled
RP fairness adjustments to ensure players in the same match lose and gain points more consistently
Ongoing tuning to improve transparency, fairness, and trust in the system
These changes are part of an ongoing effort to refine Ranked 3.0 over time.
The Dokkaebi remaster has been one of the most discussed changes this season. The team revealed that her redesign was the result of nearly two years of iteration, ultimately requiring a full rework of her balancing tools. While the new design successfully addressed long-standing issues, it also led to an overcorrection to restore her impact, resulting in her current strength level. Below you can find what's being done to address this both now and moving forward:
Short-Term Adjustments Incremental updates are being deployed this season:
Update 2.1: Introduces a global cooldown on her Jegeo Playload to reduce spam
Update 2.2: Moves to a per-target cooldown system, allowing better control and counterplay
Future Counterplay Improvements Looking ahead to Season 3, Dokkaebi's ability will shift to a signal-based system:
Defenders like Mute and Tubarao will be able to interrupt the signal
If the signal is not interrupted, then the payload will then be delivered and the phone will explode.
These changes aim to maintain her identity as a powerful attacker while improving counterplay and fairness.
The team also noted that the new seasonal content cadence allows for faster and more responsive balancing updates throughout a season.
The team also discussed that the introduction of Calypso Casino provided valuable insights into how new maps are integrated into Ranked.
Balancing Variety and Exposure While featuring Calypso heavily ensured players experienced the new content, it also reduced overall map variety, something players clearly missed. The team is now exploring alternative ways to encourage engagement with new maps without limiting variety across the playlist.
Tips for Learning New Maps Players looking to improve their map knowledge can take advantage of:
Clear House mode
Landmark drills
Community-created guides and content
The team also confirmed ongoing discussions around improving tools to help players learn maps when they are first introduced.
The 1v1 Playlist is making a comeback at the midway point of Season 2, following strong engagement and positive feedback from players.
Player Feedback & Improvements Feedback from surveys highlighted clear priorities for the mode:
A more competitive experience
Reduced downtime between rounds
Greater map variety
Improved pacing and systems
These insights directly shaped the next iteration.
What's New in the Next Iteration
Expanded map pool (from 3 to 5 maps)
Improved matchmaking
Faster pacing with reduced prep time and clearer objectives
New Attrition system replacing operator bans
Improvements to overall match flow and variety
Looking Ahead While a Ranked version of 1v1 isn't included yet, it remains one of the most requested features. The team is focusing on refining the core experience first before introducing a competitive layer.
Throughout the discussion, the dev team reinforced that player feedback remains central to ongoing updates. From Ranked adjustments to playlist improvements, community input, paired with live data, continues to guide development priorities.

In the latest Rainbow Six Siege community update, the dev team shared their insights behind important upcoming changes scheduled for the mid-season update of Year 11, Season 1. Topics included improving Ranked map rotation, balancing Operators, helping new players, and strengthening player protection.
Based on player feedback, Ranked map rotation is getting a major shift. Instead of removing maps mid-season, five maps will be added, expanding the pool to 17. With Ranked 3.0, map bans will follow a new structure:
2 maps from the competitive pool
1 map from a showcased pool
2 maps from a seasonal pool
Map rotations will also be influenced by player behavior. Maps that are frequently banned will appear less often, while popular ones will show up more.
Eight operators are being adjusted to improve fairness and gameplay experience.
Key highlights:
Smoke gets his Deployable Shield back
Rauora receives D.O.M. Panel Launcher, D.O.M. Panel, and resource updates
Jackal gains new vertical tracking potential
Other Operators like Glaz, Clash, Frost, Thunderbird and Grim are also receiving refinement changes. Read the full details on these Operator balancing updates in the Y11S1.2 Designer's Notes.
The Dokkaebi Remaster is a refocus. She’s always been a powerful Operator and we’re keeping it that way. Her changes aim to make her abilities more targeted while ensuring she will remain a strong and impactful attacker.
One more Operator remaster is planned for Year 11.
A new phased onboarding system is coming to help ease new players into Siege:
Bot-only matches
Real teammates vs bots
Beginner PvP matchmaking
This approach is designed to reduce early frustration and help players learn the game more smoothly.
Mousetrap bans are now active
Improved chat detection now better recognizes positive behavior
Helpful communication contributes to Reputation Standing
Player feedback continues to directly shape updates like Ranked 3.0 and rotation changes, especially though seasonal surveys.
This update focuses on making Siege more balanced, more accessible for new players, and more aligned with the community wants, while keeping the competitive experience strong.
These updates are part of a broader effort to protect players and strengthen Rainbow Six Siege in Year 11. For full details and developer insights, watch the Community Checkpoint #2 livestream replay and hear directly from our teams.
