What an incredible couple of days it’s been, we've had such a good time engaging with everyone in this community around the release of Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor, and we hope you are all excited to get to explore the Island of Sodor like you've never seen it before!
We want to extend a thank you to everyone who has been involved across our spaces, shared feedback, captured incredible screenshots and to everyone who has jumped into the game so far. You've made the Launch extra special.
To celebrate the launch of Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor, we’ve put together a video for you: “The Sights and Sounds of Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor”! You can watch this below.
We’re working hard behind the scenes to address the issues / bugs you’ve been experiencing so far. We’ve taken note of all the feedback and are working with the development team to ensure these are ironed out quickly.
We've also seen many players jumping into Explore Mode and feeling stuck, or unable to drive the trains they’ve spawned, as passing signals results in the service ending. In order to allow for Explore Mode to work correctly, you'll need to first set a Destination using the map, find an area of the world you'd like to drive to (specifically clicking on the track), and choosing the 'Set Path' option. This will unlock the signals to allow you to drive onwards.
There is a brilliant guide from TheBritishAce that can talk you through the steps to set this up, which we highly recommend.
What's next for Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor?
We know many of you are very eager to know more about what the future holds, but we first want to make sure that your experiences on the Island of Sodor are the best they can be before we share any news here, which is why we're prioritising working through your feedback and our first patch for the game, coming to you soon.
We'll share more news on this, but in the meantime we'd welcome your continued discussions and feedback.

The countdown to steam-filled stories, familiar faces, and railway fun has officially begun.
To celebrate this exciting announcement, we also wanted to share an exclusive look at Percy. Today’s character spotlight begins with a cheerful toot - it’s Percy, the No. 6 engine of the North Western Railway. Whilst smaller compared to some of the other engines, Percy is a sweet and clumsy engine who is always trying his very best. Percy brings warmth and charm to Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor as players join him on some of his busiest days across the island.
In Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor, players step into the cab of the cheerfully green Percy and experience a full, fast-paced day on Sodor - packed with important tasks, friendly faces, and plenty of chances to prove just how capable he is.

Rolling onto the tracks of Episode 4, and very fitting for Sodor's Number 4 engine, is Gordon. Gordon is one of Sodor’s most iconic engines. He’s a strong, powerful and proud engine, in charge of hauling the Express line for Sodor. In Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor, players get to experience his power, his pace, and yes… his personality, all from right inside the cab.
Gordon makes an appearance in multiple scenarios, alongside the recreations of some stories which you’ll no doubt remember, such as Thomas & Gordon.
One of the core features of Wonders of Sodor is Explore Mode. In Explore mode, you’re able to team up with Gordon, or any of the other classic engine, to drive without any timetable or story to worry about. Starting wherever you like, choose your train, create your own run and explore at your own pace.
Gordon also loves to be admired, and Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor gives you the tools to make him look splendid. In Photo Mode, you can freeze the action, adjust camera angles, experiment with lighting and capture your favourite moments. Whether you’re climbing Gordon’s Hill or charging past one of many infamous landmarks, Photo Mode gives players the ability to save those memories.
Our character spotlight series continues soon - and next up, a certain little green engine who’s always eager to help. Stay tuned as Percy rolls into the spotlight!

Episode 3 shines a light on one of Sodor’s most kind, helpful and intelligent engines – Emily. She’s North Western Railway’s number 12 engine, acting as a sisterly figure to the other engines. She is sensitive to the feelings of others and will stand up for other engines if they are being teased or treated unfairly, even to authority figures!
Emily’s story in Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor introduces players to a heartfelt moment of growth and bravery. Emily is put in charge of the Express line when she runs into some trouble along the way. Though, we aren’t going to reveal much more of her story at this stage!
Beyond her featured story, Emily also plays a key role in Timetable Mode - a free-roam experience where players take charge of running authentic services across Sodor’s famous lines. She’s not the only playable character though. In Timetable Mode, you’ll be able to choose your engine and set off on your journey, delivering passengers to iconic locations across the Island of Sodor.
The series continues with one of the key classic engines. Keep a look out in the following days for the video on one of Sodor’s proudest blue engines, Gordon!

Next in our character spotlight series, we’re heading into the yard tracks of Sodor with one of the railway’s most mischievous engines – Diesel!
In Wonders of Sodor, Diesel plays a key role in the Shunting Challenge. Here you’ll have to think fast and battle it out against Diesel. You’ll be sorting lines of Troublesome Trucks and ensuring the yard flows smoothly, battling it out on who can get the highest score in the Shunting Showdown. Diesel’s strength and precision make him ideal for the role… at least, according to Diesel!
Diesel’s journey doesn’t stop in the yards. One of the brand-new scenarios sees him stepping onto Thomas’ branch line for a very special passenger duty. A rare moment that pushes him out of his comfort zone, giving him a chance to shine in a whole new way.
We’ll continue to reveal more about the classic engines in the days ahead. Stay tuned for more updates coming soon. Next up is your favourite emerald green engine, Emily!

How have you re-created the Island of Sodor?
The team looked at locations throughout all eras of the brand, from publishing to content, to build the best version of Sodor. Examples include: Elsbridge Station, Tidmouth Station, and Vicarstown Station, which are variants from the publishing and content series. Some locations have had to be modified to make them fit and work with how the game works, but we have recreated these locations as faithfully as possible to the original. We have also used an original 3D map made by P.R. Wickham in 1950 for the Rev Wilbert Awdry, based on his sketches and design. Awdry used this map when introducing new railways and branch lines into the books, finding places that made sense in the topology and where they would fit. The map was 3D scanned for Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor to get the topology of the Island of Sodor. The Relief Map currently hangs on the wall in the recreation of Rev. Awdry's Study in the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at the Talyllyn Railway. The Island of Sodor has been slightly scaled down to allow for all audiences to play. However, we have made sure all your favourite locations are in the routes, and you get the same timeless feeling of what the books and TV series showed. One of the main location differences is Knapford Station, which has had its platforms on the middle roads changed to through platforms. This is to allow it to work with the Timetable Mode and the flow of the station. Also, in some locations, the platforms and stations will seem larger and longer than in the book and TV series; this is to allow for stopping locations and to fit larger trains. How have we worked with Mattel on the production of the game?
We have been working closely with Mattel for all-important source material from the book and TV series, creating the nostalgic stories, and making the Island of Sodor feel as immersive as possible. What characteristics do the characters in Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor have?
To provide an authentic railway experience, we've made some adjustments to the characters to reflect their real-life locomotive designs (for example, Emily being a GNR Stirling Single, and Gordon being an LNER Pacific locomotive). The sounds of each of the engines have come from the Thomas & Friends™ TV series, alongside our vast library of real-life railway sounds, to provide true immersion and railway ambience. For those who have played Thomas & Friends™ Visit the West Somerset Railway on Train Sim World, we've made some changes to the characters featured in that Add-on, including:All-new changeable facial expressions - when in Explore and Timetable Modes. These will be different depending on the character, and can be chosen by the player using a selectable wheel when inside the character Note: Selectable facial expressions will be available as a post-release update
Rivets – Resizing and changing to fit closer to the real loco basis
Cabs – Adding real-life loco-based cabs to the characters and making controls usable
Weathering – Adding coal dust to the back of bunkers and around the top of tenders
Handrails – Repainted and redesigned to match the real-life locomotives
