Hello explorers,
It's been a couple of weeks since the launch of The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. We hope you've been enjoying the special kind of chaos that can only be brought by cosmic entities beyond our understanding and if you think you've started to understand how things work, then we're going to have to do something about that.
Foreshadowing aside, we've had a lot of feedback about the tools players have at their disposal to deal with the Mound. This is a short patch, but with some big changes. The largest of which is the addition of a block ability, that will help you avoid getting overrun by the creatures coming for you.
We're aware that this could have a big effect on the balance and difficulty of the game. So we're going to be monitoring how it lands, so sound off in the comments section about how it feels in-game.
Critical / Important:
Fix for players seeing low performance in Ultra Settings when re-launching the game
Fix for multiple enemies of the same class spawning in some missions
Progress recovery tool for all platforms based on achievement / trophies progress.
New block function (Q on Keyboard or RB/R1 on controller)
Fixed Saints not loading after missions (which was introduced in patch 1)
Fixed no knives appearing when playing the game in Single-Player
Improvements / Minor changes:
Reduced Saints blessing costs
Slight increase for tokens given for contract tiers
Rescuing a character in the mainland means a contract is successful regardless of whether or not the treasure was returned
Migo enemy captures players for less time in Single-Player
Fixed weapon appearance in ultrawide configurations
Captain now uses some dialogue lines which were previously not being used
Fix for torches losing flame
Improvements to local voice (some issues remain that we're looking into)
Console
Fix for losing progress on PS5
As a reminder, our launch discount, the 20% off on Steam generated by our community, ends today. It's your last chance to get in on this offer! There's more to come for the Mound, and the dev team is hard at work. Making changes based on your feedback (hello block ability). So if you like what you see, join the expedition, and we'll see you on the island.

Hello expeditioners,
We're dropping our first hotfix for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu onto Steam.
This patch is designed to address a lot of the issues that people have encountered since release. There are some improvements to optimisation & camera selection, bug fixes, balance, Crossplay (particularly finding lobbies with your friends) and more.
PLEASE NOTE: If you've been playing on the beta branch, you may need to restart your Steam client or revert back to the default beta branch. If you need a refresher on how to do that, you can find it here.
Improved performance profiles for PC
Added server setting to be able to find sessions using a password
Ability to organise items in your own inventory with a mouse during interactions with the wagon added
Modified the Saints shop so these are no longer bought at the woodshop. Saints are now equipped for a smaller cost at the ox wagon before an expedition
Added a pre-configuration screen on first launch letting players choose a cinematic camera or a standard camera (standard camera may help with feelings of delayed interaction or motion sickness)
Key bindings are now saved between sessions
"Censer mission" updated with several improvements. Purple corruption areas modified and are slower to kill players.
Crawling canopy enemy (spider) does 50% less damage.
Added a machete to starting gear of all missions so players are never stuck with only knives.
Adjustments to general enemy damage difficulty
Slightly buffed stamina and run speed when tired.
Knives do slightly more damage.
Pole weapons have a bit more range.
Enemies take longer to spawn when the forest wakes up.
Fixed replication for some death animations, which was causing T-posing.
Fixed replication of the "bleeding" state on clients who were not seeing the effect.
Fixed cases of players getting stuck on walls after climbing.
Fixed "Game Saving" icon not being displayed with some events.
Fixed motion blur setting slider.
Fixed Mi-Go enemy behavior which did not cause them to search for players, so they rarely showed up in game sessions.
Fixed a crash related to isolation fog.
Fixed many other minor bugs.
Added far LODs for many areas where pop-in was visible.
Optimisation improvements for console versions
We also have two known issues that will be resolved in a following patch:
Saints are disappearing after one expedition unless you restart a lobby
Issues where mics are not correctly being picked up in-game
This goes alongside other things that the team are looking into like combat feel and the tools you have to deal with the threats this cursed jungle sends your way. Stay tuned for more information on what's next!
Thank you so much for supporting our team, and playing the Mound: Omen of Cthulhu.

Hello Expeditioners, We hope your journeys towards the Mound have been full of adventure, treasure, and definitely not full of horrifying hallucinations and mind bending creatures. Since launch, we've had a lot of feedback and the teams are already hard at work on a first patch that will resolve some of the things you've brought up.
Please note that if you want to try this Open Beta patch, the crossplay isn't enabled.
Optimisation (FPS & performance)
Inventory Management (coming next patch for keyboard & mouse. Controller support to follow in a later update)
Server Finder Password for playing with friends on different platforms
A preconfig screen letting you choose between the Cinematic or Default camera (this already exists in the settings for the players who may feel a lack of responsiveness or lag, if you want to try it out already).
Other Quality of Life Features and Bug Fixes
Some balancing and configuration tweaks
We'll have a full list of the changes prepped to go live alongside the patch, so stay tuned for more information.
A look at the upcoming config page when starting the Mound: Omen of Cthulhu.
And if you're interested, you can check these updates right now on the Open Beta branch we've set up here on Steam. This will allow you to play the latest version of the patch as it stands right now. It's possible that this version may have some unintended bugs, so if you come across anything, please let us know in the Steam discussions or our developer Discord.
Just note, that while playing on the Open Beta branch you will not be able to play with console players or players who are not on the same branch. So if you're looking to play with friends, make sure that you're on the correct branch to be able to play with them. You can swap branches at any time.

Thank you for playing The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. This first update since the demo brings new content, a significant wave of community-driven improvements, and a preview of what's coming next.
Weapon Upgrade Anvil - a new station on the main ship lets you spend tokens to improve or upgrade weapons given by contracts.
Hand-drawn art pieces now accompany logbook narrations on the rowboat map.
New guidebook page added at the combat dummy on the ship, covering combat mechanics.
New sanity effect. We're not telling you what it is.
Several of these came directly from your feedback: thank you for taking the time to share it.
Community feedback:
Fixed camera smoothing when disabling all camera effects, for 1:1 mouse-to-camera movement
Push to talk added
The mandatory hard cap at the end of missions has been removed: players can now remain on the mainland as long as they can survive
Better diversity of treasure shrines and additional treasure pickups in missions
Language column added to the find games screen
Improved weapon balance for contracts
Accessibility option added: dot at the centre of the screen for motion sickness
FOV slider range expanded from 85–115 to 75–125
Multiple players can now interact with the ox-wagon inventory simultaneously
General:
Single Player: New gestures to command your bot companion to switch between silent weapons and a rifle - more effective but noisier
Prologue ending cinematic extended with additional narration
Contracts now display more mission information and a greater variety of treasure requirements
You can now leave game sessions while spectating
Improved voice 3D spatialization
Improvements to doppelganger behaviour
Multiple sanity effect improvements
Various bug and crash fixes
Replication fixes for foliage and other in-game actions
Many visual and screen loading optimisations
We're currently working on crossplay:
After looking into it, Crossplay is working fine, but we have indeed identified an issue whereby you cannot invite your friends to play via Crossplay. We are currently working on a fix and will do our best to provide it as soon as possible, making crossplay invitations easier and more reliable. In the meantime, the available workaround is to find your friends’ server in the online server list. We realise that this method is inconvenient and apologise again for any trouble caused. Thank you for all your feedback, it helps us better identify and resolve these issues.
We're also working on a block and counterattack system for certain weapons. We want to give players more tools in critical moments without removing the threat that close-range combat should feel like. We're taking our time to get that balance right... with many more fixes and improvements.
There's a lot more to come!

Something old is waking beneath the roots
Nacon and ACE Team are thrilled to finally put this game in your hands. The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is now live on Steam!
A huge thanks to all our community from everyone at ACE Team. We're thrilled with the amount of support and attention the game has received. It has been great having a lot of interaction with the community since the demo debuted on Steam and we look forward to continue development while we keep taking notes from all the people that want to share their feedback. Thanks again to everyone that followed us through this new journey. The adventure is only beginning and we can't wait to see everyone in the Valdivian jungle now that the game is out.
The wait is over - grab your gear, gather your crew, and step into a forest that was never meant to be disturbed.
Lead your band of explorers into a jungle consumed by something not of this world. Beneath the tangled roots and rotting earth lies a secret that's been sleeping for centuries, and it's starting to stir.
Push through a corrupted wilderness where the trees themselves seem to watch you
Command or join a party of treasure hunters, each bringing their own tools and instincts to the expedition
Survive encounters with creatures answering to something far older than them
If you're lucky, finish your jouney to The Mound: will you survive to tell the world what happens there ?
The Temple of Yig Exclusive Mission is available now as a free DLC. Unearth ancient mysteries in a unique area of the cursed jungle.
Only the host needs the DLC for the whole party to play.
Once you've land foot on this corrupted island, the ground doesn't let go easily. What's down there has been waiting a long time for company.
Grab the game in its first two weeks and pick up the Lost Explorers' Swords Pack at no extra cost, alongside a 20% discount at launch. The offer won't stick around once the roots close back over it.
This DLC need to be manually claimed for free from the store page - it won't be added to your account automatically.
Are you ready to dig up what's underneath - or will the mound bury you first?
For those ready to go all in, the Deluxe Edition awaits. It includes:
The complete game
Fortune Hunters Characters Pack
Abyssal Gear Pack
The game's digital soundtrack
The deeper you dig, the less certain the ground beneath you feels. There's no climbing back out now: the jungle has already noticed you.
If you're looking for more co-op horror after the jungle, we've got you covered. The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is available as part of the Supernatural Co-op Horror Bundle alongside Dark Hours - another co-op survival horror experience where a heist gone wrong traps your team with something that shouldn't exist.
Two games. Two expeditions. One question: will you survive? The bundle comes with a 10% discount on top of any existing discounts - and if you already own one of the games, you can complete the set by purchasing only what's missing.

A new build is live for the Steam Next Fest Demo. Here's what changed.
Weapon looting from corpses - you can now pick up weapons directly from enemy bodies. One less reason to go in empty-handed.
Two new sanity effects added to the rotation. We're not telling you what they are. You'll know.
Guidebook codex pages can now be discovered across the mainland - piece together more of what The Mound doesn't want you to know.
Firearm ammo drops now carry more bullets per pickup, and undead enemies have a slightly higher chance of dropping them.
Additional weapons and ammo placed in select areas.
Appraiser sentiment improved - gear brought back from missions is evaluated more favourably.
Subtitle font size option added to the settings menu.
Several interface visual improvements.
Improved Huemul behaviour.
Players can no longer go into token debt.
Fixed a stretching polygons bug in the onboarding area.
Players now crouch in first person when picking up bodies.
Fixed time warnings from the forest state not appearing.
The Map item no longer behaves like the Medallion item.
Multiple minor issues addressed.
Keep the reports coming - the demo is shaping the launch build, and every piece of feedback helps.

Hey everyone,
We’re excited to share that the playable demo for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is now live as part of Steam Next Fest (June 15 to 22) starting right now!
This demo will be available for a limited time during the event. If you’ve been curious to experience the tension of our pirate-era cosmic horror, gather your squad: now is the moment to begin your exploration into the jungle.
For those who participated in our recent Closed Beta, this demo features the same chaotic, high-stakes gameplay you experienced, but with a major upgrade: 5 forts are available for exploration!
Whether you are returning to the jungle or setting foot under the canopy for the very first time, here is a taste of the core loop and mechanics you will experience:
Expedition Preparation: Meet up at your galleon hub to coordinate your squad of up to 4 players, purchase vital gear, and select your destination before rowboating into the unknown.
A Hostile, Shifting Jungle: Explore thick, overgrown environments in search of cursed treasures. Tread carefully - the jungle reacts to your actions. The more noise and destruction you cause, the more the environment wakes up to hunt you.
The Sabotage of Sanity: Monitor your mental health closely. Taking damage drains your sanity, causing reality to warp around you. You will experience hallucinations designed to break your team's communication, hide deadly traps, and even make your allies look like terrifying monsters.
If a teammate dies and isn't promptly revived, they will become corrupted, returning as an undead hostile to hunt down the rest of the squad. Survival demands absolute trust - but in the jungle, you can't even trust your own eyes.

If you decide to try the demo, thank you. Every session played, every piece of feedback shared on our Discord, and every wishlist added genuinely supports us as we head into the final stretch of development.
We are currently focused on final polish and refinements ahead of our official release on July 15th. If you enjoy what you experience during Next Fest, make sure to wishlist the game to follow us through to launch:
The jungle has fallen silent... for now.

Thank you for your incredible support and active participation in the current phase of The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. Our team is actively tracking several issues. Below is a list of the currently known issues, their gameplay impact, and what you can do to avoid or resolve them in the meantime:
Issue
Workaround
Crash when attacking the centipedes around the Logbook Camp
Don't attack the small centipedes spawning during the hallucination sequence for the first Logbook onboarding contract
Client is not able to see the lantern/torch light of the host
Random network issue, minimal impact on gameplay
Canceling return from boat pop up window after the mission or the guidebook UI disconnects mouse from camera controls, this fixes itself after returning to the ship
Returning to the ship fixes the issue.
Do not exit the guidebook interface by pressing the ESC key, but actually click on the button prompt to exit.
For the guidebook repro, triggering the issue both while on the galleon and during an expedition requires a full game restart to fix.
Inventory slot mismatch after starting an expedition on map
Each game starts with the 1st inventory slot being selected instead of what the player was holding before starting the mission.
This is only visual, as scrolling actually uses the selected weapon as the starting point.
You can go into debt in the occult shop
Do not buy things that you cannot afford.
If you encounter any other anomalies, strange behaviors, or crashes, please report them to us in the #bug-reports channel on our official Discord! Your detailed reports (especially with screenshots or video clips) are invaluable to the dev team.

Thank you for your patience as we work on getting these resolved!

Deep in the jungle, among the tangled branches that blot out the sky, the Tue Tue waits. Motionless. Patient. You might not notice it until it's already too late.
The Tue Tue draws from Chilean and Mapuche folklore, where it is known as the Chonchón - a creature tied to dark sorcery, described as a flying head adorned with feathers, capable of bringing omens of death. Its cry - "tue, tue, tue" - was said to predict the passing of a loved one. In the Mound, that cry means something far more immediate.
Perched high on a branch, the Tue Tue cuts a striking silhouette: a large black-feathered bird with a skull for a head and two burning red eyes that catch the light in the dark. It is still until it is not.
The Tue Tue is territorial. It does not hunt - it punishes proximity.
Approach too close, throw an object near it, and it will scream. Loudly. Very loudly. The kind of noise that tells every creature in the area exactly where you are.
After the cry, it ascends - hovering above its branch - and releases a thick green-black cloud that swallows everything around it. Visibility drops to near zero. You can barely make out the terrain. You can barely see your teammates.
To escape, you have two options:
Run. Put enough distance between yourself and the Tue Tue and the cloud will fade behind you.
Kill it. A ranged weapon can bring it down before the cloud fully closes in. Be warned: the Tue Tue screams again when it dies.
Silence is survival. If you hear the cry, it is already reacting to you. The cloud does not follow you - but your teammates caught inside it will be on their own. Coordinate your approach. One careless throw can blind your entire squad.
The Mound does not forgive noise.
More monsters ahead. Watch the skies.
RedditTiktok Twitter Discord
We've been quiet about what actually happens inside The Mound. Today, that changes.
Art Director Edmundo Bordeu takes you through a full gameplay session of The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu: no cuts, no safety net. Just the jungle, the monsters, and the slow unraveling of everything you thought you could trust.
The jungle is not a backdrop. It watches. The environment itself is designed to disorient you - paths that looked clear, sounds that shouldn't be there.
Your sanity is a resource. Every encounter, every noise, every glimpse of something that shouldn't exist chips away at your grip on reality. Watch what happens when it gets low. Watch what you start seeing.
The monsters hunt differently. This isn't a wave-based horror game. Each creature in The Mound has its own behaviour, its own triggers, its own way of making your night significantly worse. You'll meet some of them in this video. Others you'll find on your own.
Extraction is the goal. Survival is the challenge. Loot, coordinate, manage your fear - and when it all goes wrong, run. We show you exactly how thin the margin is between a clean extraction and a very bad ending.
Come find us on TikTok! We've launched a new channel with its own unique content. Follow along for short videos and a different kind of look into the world of The Mound.

Ahoy Explorers!
For months, we have spoken of the horrors that await you in the jungle. Today, we give them a face.
The time has come to pull back the veil and reveal the brand-new key art for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. This is the image that will adorn your libraries, the icon that will call to you from the void. But one image could not capture the entire story:
Both of these images represent a core part of the experience we have painstakingly crafted. We cannot wait for you to live them yourselves. Let us know which one calls to you the most.

Ahoy, Explorers.
Before you step into the suffocating embrace of the jungle, you must first stand before the Captain in the relative sanity of the Galleon. Here, you will not be given orders, but a choice. A contract. Each one is a pact, a promise of reward for a task that will test your greed, your courage, and your trust in those beside you.
But be warned: not all bargains are equal, and every choice has its price.
Every contract begins with a demand. The Captain’s requirements are one thing that separates a successful expedition from a fruitless descent into horror. Sometimes, your goal will be one of pure value: "Bring at least 800 worth of value" in treasures and relics. Other times, the demand will be specific: a list of resources the jungle holds, such as "15 mushrooms, 5 logs, and 2 small animals."
Fulfilling this objective is your primary goal. Everything else is secondary to survival.
The Captain provides, but he is not generous. Each contract comes with a selection of equipment for your party - a handful of weapons, a few precious supplies, a single lamp against the oppressive dark. These are not individual loadouts; they are a shared arsenal.
Will you entrust the only arquebus to the marksman with the steadiest hand? Who carries the lantern when the shadows begin to crawl? Here, trust is a resource as valuable as ammunition and just as easily spent.
No risk is without its potential reward. Before you sign your name to the ledger, you will see what awaits you upon a successful return: Experience to sharpen your skills, and Tokens to spend at the occult shop. These are no mere coins. They are the currency of the damned, used to acquire artifacts that blur the line between salvation and madness.
With them, you can obtain powerful support items like The Medallion to uncover hidden treasures, or even forbidden relics like the Mask of Nyarlathotep, which offers a terrifying form of protection. The greater the risk, the greater the reward, and the closer you step towards the horrors you seek to exploit.
So, study the contracts carefully. Weigh the objectives, consider the tools you'll have to share, and stare long at the prize. The choice is yours. What are you willing to risk for a chance at forbidden glory?
Stay sharp. The jungle is waiting.
The whispers have reached new shores. We have established an outpost for all explorers on Reddit, a place to share tales of survival, debate strategies for your next expedition, and find a trustworthy crew to watch your back in the oppressive darkness.

Some require patience. Others demand misdirection - and a willingness to step closer to the enemy than comfort allows.
This second loadout is designed around controlled aggression and infiltration, giving one squad member the tools to create openings while others capitalize on them.
It’s a kit that rewards coordination… and punishes hesitation.
The Francesca Axe is not a weapon you throw casually. It is a weapon of precision.
Its weight demands a careful throw, and damage depends on how it lands. A well-placed strike can shift an encounter, while a misjudged throw leaves you exposed. Ideal for players who time their actions to create pressure or finish fights efficiently.
The crossbow brings control to the squad.
It lets players apply pressure at range. Each shot is deliberate, covering allies or punishing distracted enemies. Unlike a traditional bow, bolts can pierce armor at very close range — a historically accurate trait that rewards careful positioning. It’s not about speed - it’s about setting the pace of the fight and controlling the battlefield.
The most unsettling piece of this loadout is not a weapon at all.
The Mask of Nyarlathotep allows its wearer to move among the Y’m-bhi unnoticed - provided it’s donned before attention is drawn. For a time, the undead will accept you as one of their own.
But this deception comes at a cost.
Wearing the mask gnaws at the mind, inflicting a creeping dread that leaves the wearer vulnerable if violence erupts. Worse still, the illusion isn’t selective: to your allies, you may look no different from the creatures you’re trying to fool. In the chaos of a fight, hesitation - or a trigger pulled too fast - can be fatal.
The mask is a tool for infiltration, scouting, and positioning… but it demands absolute trust from the squad.
Choose carefully. Some paths offer power… but ask for something in return.

In The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, not every enemy attacks on sight.
The Y’m-bhi - inspired by their appearance in The Mound - are reanimated bodies bound to the jungle, and they behave less like mindless undead and more like sentries.
When a Y’m-bhi spots players, it often probes instead of attacking. It watches, tests distance, and builds stress. During these moments, you may hear fragments of the human still trapped inside (broken warnings urging you to flee).
Using a crucifix reveals their stress level through the glow of their eyes, giving squads a chance to anticipate what comes next.
But when stress peaks, they don’t always charge.
Sometimes, they retreat into the forest, repositioning for an ambush when players move on.
Y’m-bhi are dangerous in close combat:
They can parry melee attacks, sometimes disarming players.
Headshots aren’t always fatal - even devastating ones.
Some can deploy tentacles to pin a player, forcing allies to intervene.
Turning your back is risky. If you flee, they may enter a pursuit state, becoming slightly faster than you through the jungle.
Light can briefly blind Y’m-bhi in darkness - unless they carry light of their own. Some wield oil lamps, which they may use to set themselves ablaze and charge players in flames.
And killing one doesn’t always end the threat.
In certain cases, the forest will attempt to bring the body back, reanimating what players thought was dealt with.
The Y’m-bhi aren’t just enemies to defeat - they’re pressure points that test awareness, teamwork, and restraint.
And they’re only one of many dangers waiting beneath the canopy.

As we continue shaping our title, we want to start giving you a closer look at the equipment you will be able to rely on to successfully complete your contracts. Throughout development, we’ll be showcasing different loadouts: each highlighting a particular playstyle and the kind of role it can create within a team.
Today’s trio is a glimpse into a setup meant for slow, deliberate progress through hostile terrain: cautious scouting, controlled engagements, and a focus on locating what lies hidden beneath the canopy. This isn’t the only way to play, but for the right expedition, it can make the difference between discovery and disappearance.
This first setup focuses on support and precision: a player who can keep their allies safe, shed light on threats, and uncover what lies buried beneath the jungle’s canopy.
The matchlock arquebus is the most iconic firearm in The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu - a weapon born from fire, powder, and faith. It delivers a single, devastating shot capable of piercing armor at close range, but every trigger pull comes with risk.
Reloading takes time (time you may not have) so even the best soldiers are exposed between volleys. The arquebus can also misfire, especially when weathered or poorly maintained, forcing you to reload powder into the pan before trying again.
And then there’s the weather itself.
The weapon’s smouldering fuse - a lifeline for ignition - is extinguished under rain. When the skies weep, the arquebus falls silent unless you find shelter to reload and fire.
Despite its flaws, this firearm rewards precision, discipline, and timing. A perfect shot can save a squad. A poorly timed reload can doom it.
(The arquebus was modelled in detail based on real 16th-century mechanisms, down to the moving parts and reload steps.)
The oil lamp isn’t just a light source: it’s a reliable companion against the jungle’s unnatural dark. Unlike the torch, it won’t flicker or die under the rain, and its steady glow offers players a brief sense of control amid the chaos.
But the lamp’s true value goes beyond illumination. Some of the creatures haunting the jungle are sensitive to light, weakening under its glare. In these moments, cooperation becomes key: which one of will hold the lamp steady, while another delivers the finishing strike?
It’s also a weapon of desperation: you can throw your lamp to ignite a small burst of flame, sacrificing sight for survival. And sometimes, the jungle’s horrors imitate the living: the Y’mi-bhi, undead figures wandering the undergrowth, often carry lamps of their own… only to set themselves ablaze and charge at intruders.
The lamp doesn’t make you safer, it simply helps you see what’s about to test your sanity.
From the occult shop roster comes the medallion, an artifact etched with the twin visages of Cthulhu and Yig: two cosmic forces bound by opposition: Tulu and Yig, Day and Night, Earth and Sky.
To use it, the player must strike the medallion, briefly activating it. The impact sends a pulse through the forest, an audible sound that attracts unwanted attention while also agitating the environment itself. When active, faint specks of light reveal hidden treasures buried deep in the jungle.
These relics are composed of a mysterious substance known as Tulu-metal, whose magnetism resonates with the medallion alone. But the gift of guidance comes with its own curse: he who seeks, finds. But he who seeks may also be found.
The medallion represents the balance between curiosity and caution - between faith in the unknown and the price of discovery.
This is just the first of many combinations we’ll reveal. Future loadouts will be tailored to different maps, threats, and playstyles: from coordinated team pushes to tense, deliberate navigation of the jungle and high-risk, high-reward treasure runs. The right loadout won’t guarantee your safety… but it may buy you a few precious moments to survive.
Stay tuned… there’s much more to uncover.

In The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, the forest isn’t just a backdrop: it’s your first enemy.
These in-game shots are still work in progress, but they already hint at the tension you’ll face: dense vegetation, unnatural silence, and paths that seem to shift around you. This is not a space to explore. It’s a space to survive.
The environment itself is hostile, and every detail matters:
Dense vegetation and branches slow your movement. You can cut through with a machete, but too much noise risks drawing out hidden creatures.
Dense fog limits your vision, and rain threatens your survival in more ways than one. A soaked fuse means your gunpowder weapons won’t fire when you need them most.
Caves and structures might feel like the last place you want to enter, but they are where you are most likely to find treasure, and also offer a small advantage: at least inside, you can keep your gunpowder dry.
Here, survival means weighing every choice - sometimes the danger you see isn’t as bad as the danger you might awaken if you choose to use your firearms.
The team drew from real-world inspirations, especially the Valdivian temperate rainforest of South America: an ecosystem that is ancient, wet, and claustrophobic.
But reality is only part of the story, the environment is also twisted with Lovecraftian elements, as the inhabitants of the underworld can alter life to their will.
“...The K'nyanians had attained immortality and subjugated other races before them, and had the technology to biologically modify other life-forms”
The jungle becomes an ideal hunting ground, a camouflage for ancient predators.
There are things that crawl through the roots, and even more ancient things beneath, things you are never meant to encounter, if you want to survive.

Before a single torch flickered, before the jungle whispered its first warning, there was only an empty stage, a few actors in mocap suits, and a very clear vision:
Show players what it feels like to descend into the unknown.
To create the physicality and emotional realism we needed for the trailer, we turned to motion capture. Our goal was to capture not just movement, but intention. These aren’t modern protagonists, they’re 16th-century explorers, warriors, and believers, reacting to things their world can’t explain.
Benjamin Corbel, Lead Cinematic Artist at Nacon, directed the shoot - and even took on the role of virtual camera operator, helping craft every shot from inside the scene. His eye for framing tension and unease was key to translating horror into physical space.
We were lucky to work with an incredible group of performers:
Cédric Lalanne as The Priest, bringing gravity and spiritual tension to every gesture.
Tommy-Lee Baïk as The Veteran, whose posture and hesitation conveyed experience.
Lazare Minoungou as The Soldier, driven, determined, and slowly unraveling.
From the smallest head turn to a last-minute recoil from something unseen, these actors brought our vision to life, one beat at a time.
No mocap shoot happens without a solid team behind the sensors, and we had one of the best. Huge thanks to:
Charley Boidin
Mathilde Cellier
David Chour
Manon Delafont
Nolan Vercasson
Their attention to detail ensured the sessions ran smoothly and the resulting data stayed clean, sharp, and expressive. From syncing weapon grips to adjusting calibration mid-scene, they kept the technical side invisible—so the performances could shine.
