Between the 12th and 14th centuries, these lanterns were erected in many places across Europe. Through their light, they pointed the way for people lost in the darkness and announced the proximity of sacred places—locations caught between the earth and the heavens. These lanterns acted as waypoints for both the living and the dead. They also dispelled the gloom, where penitent souls or wraiths might have hidden— and revealed criminals lurking to prey on travelers. The dual purpose of the lanterns of the dead has fascinated historians for centuries. Fun Fact: Most surviving lanternes des morts are located in France, particularly in the Limousin region. Story Setting

The story of The Medium is set in Kraków, Poland, and the locations featured in the game are real. King's Monument

Next to the tenement, there is a monument of the Polish king, Władysław II Jagiełło, which was revealed in 1910. It commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Grundwald (1410), where the king defeated the German Teutonic Order. Marrianne's flat

Classic coffee/tea cups

The Black Madonna of Częstochowa

Fiat 126p ("Maluch")

You can even visit it yourself! But Niwa isn't the only slice of reality depicted in The Medium. About the game
