(v2021.02.08multitest):
You can access this version by
right clicking the game in you
steam library, selecting
properties,
betas tab, and from the dropdown select "
multiplayer_test".
To
host a server, you have to start a
new game or
load a save, then press
T select the
Lobby tab and click
Create.
To
join other lobbies, click the
Lobbies button in the
main menu, select an existing lobby (if there is any) and press
Join.
(before
8:34 you see things from the
host's point of view, after that from a
client's)
These got synced since the last update:
- Fluids
- State of caps/valves
- State of the handheld lamps
At Buildings:
In Car:
- Steering
- Ignition, Starter
- Headlights
- Interior Lights
- Horn
- Gear
- Pedals
- Handbrake
You can now set where the players should spawn:
- At the starting house
- At the host's position
The
loot spawning at buildings was sent from the host before this update also, but the clients each spawned their own items too, so the same ID meant a different object for them, and there were
duplicate items and made the client
freeze. This is no longer the case, loot spawn is disabled for the clients, so they only spawn what the host sends.
Similar problem was with the
friendly animals too, and the solution was the same, but I'm not sure it worked, I didn't see any bunnies in this version yet, but at least there are no buses hopping around in the desert anymore.
Known Issues:
Physics don't work
far away from the
host (about
300-400 meters). So you can't really drive that far away from each other, or if you do, you may see
sync problems. This will be fixed later, because the game is about
freedom, and it feels very bad to have this
limitiation.
Sometimes you may hear a constat
colliding noise if you are a client, and this even holds back the car or makes it jump. The "fix" is to
remove all of the
wheels and put them
back, that should work.
The
terrain may be different for players. If things spawned in a different order, it didn't align itself well, and if you drive on such terrain, from the clients point of view, the car may fly and fall down each second, trying to be where it is for the host. If you are on the road, it should be fine, because the terrain can align to it even before it is there, so it should be the same for every player.
The
buildings which are not spawned with the road, but
in the desert (even if they are near the road) may
not be
visible for clients for some reason. And it is possible that sometime even the other buildings position is a bit off.
If you have something in you
inventory, it may
bug inside the
car of the other players, making it
stop, or
flip.
Sometimes when you join, you may
fall underground, if you are not teleported back up (or fall down again) I think the only thing you can do currently is to disconnect and
join again.
Host may experience a short
fps drop regularly, because of sending the position data of everything at once. I'm not sure yet how, but I will fix this too.
And the floating origin problem mentioned in the previous posts seems to be working, but I still won't believe it...
Future things:
Shooting eachother is still not done, but it is needed. The lobby menu needs work too. The color and condition of the items, parts needs to be synced while playing, not just at start, Along with the ammo and things like the air freshener. Some sounds and a few smaller things.
(And of course fixing the issues above)
But the next update will be for the default game, not a multiplayer test. If you look around carefully, maybe you will find one or two things related to that. (in the game or on youtube)
As you can see it is still
far from being complete, but it is a lot
more playable than it was, if you are lucky and keep these issues in mind, you may have a good time with you friends (or strangers) driving through the desert together. ːsteamhappyː
