Edward now has a faster movement speed in survival mode.
King Eadgar now has a higher chance his melee attacks drop ammo in survival mode.
Changed the chances of Gwen appearing from a 50% chance to a 70% chance after defeating Cormac at least once, and also made what usually blocks the path to Gwen more visible so it is more noticeable when it is no longer blocked.
Bug Fixes

Enemies won't be able to reenter their spawn areas in survival mode.
Fixed enemies acting strange by some of the stairs in the dungeon survival mode level.

Hi everyone. Here's a pretty big update.
This is probably the last major update for The Bleakest Keep. Thank you so much for playing my game about a knight throwing frying pans at vampires, who must save the kingdom from the evil, buff, 9 foot tall wizard, as Juliet cheers him on.
If you want to keep updated with my future games, please follow me on Twitter!
Here's what's new and what changes and bug fixes have been made. I hope I didn't miss anything!
There will likely be some bug fixes and balance changes to come in the next few days. If you struggle with getting an A rank as Edward for the castle rooftops level in survival mode, I know I might have made it too hard and it is likely going to be made easier sometime after this update!

Hi everyone!
Here's some information on what the next update for The Bleakest Keep will be, releasing on February 10th!
This will also likely be the last major update the game receives.
Thank you so much for playing!
If you want to keep up with whatever I make next, I suggest following me on Twitter! Twitter is where I post the most and where you can see what I am working on. With The Bleakest Keep ending, if you want to keep updated with my future games, be sure to follow me on Twitter! I'd also suggest following the Cache of Bone's steam page as well!
What is the survival mode update?
The main focus on this update will be survival mode. You must defeat 100 enemies as fast as you can. There are 3 survival levels and you can play as:
Edward
Juliet
King Eadgar
Queen Elenid
Cormac
It's a pretty quick and simple mode and I think playing as characters other than Edward is pretty fun!
Also the main mode will get a few things added. New starting perks and even a new optional boss! Plus balance changes and bug fixes.
And new outfits for Edward and Juliet.
The update releases on February 10th!
Hello everyone!
Tis the season, so The Bleakest Keep is 20% off on Steam during the Winter Sale!
Also, my previous game Slay the Minotaur is 40% off! You should check it out!
Thanks for playing everyone!
New
Added Vsync to the graphics option menu.
Updated the character model viewer to include some animations for a few characters and also change Juliet's emotions. Queen Elenid's model now also shows her weapon which can be toggled on and off.
The bosses, a few enemies, and outfits are not longer automatically available from the start. The outfits won't show unless you unlocked them, and the bosses won't appear unless beaten and some enemies won't appear until reaching a certain point. All models can be unlocked by either getting 10 game overs or beating Cormac 3 times.
I realized it was a bit of an oversight that showing these things in the model viewer was a spoiler and I don't want someone who first plays the game to open the model viewer and spoil themselves.
Changes
Changed ultrawide mode to Aspect Ratio in the resolution settings.
16:9
21:9

Flies should be much easier to hit with melee weapons.

Made a small change to Cormac's model.
Bug Fixes
Fixed some mistakes for Edward's outfit 1.

Juliet's outfits 2 and 3
Vampire
Banshee
Queen Elenid

Fixed bloodlust and swordsman perk still being found in chest while using the heavy sword.
Fixed swordsman perk still being found while using unarmed.
Fixed Edward continuously attacking after defeating a boss while having hold to attack enabled.
Fixed Cormac's punch attack sometimes passing through.
This was actually not a bug, what was happening was player's were still invincible after a previous attack and Cormac's punch already hit them before they blocked, but it was so fast it looked weird and felt off. So technically it was not a bug! But it is "fixed" now.
Fixed enemies not attacking by the final drawbridge.
Fixed vampires wings clipping through their body while idle.
Changes
Slightly increased the length of the heavy sword.
Club no longer has a longer regeneration time for special attack or dodge and will also now start with lucky hit.

Can now change inputs for swapping items.

When buying a weapon from Juliet it will automatically reload the weapon. If low on that ammo type you will also be given some extra ammo, except for legendary weapons.
Charge attack shouldn't damage enemy legs as often.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a problem where attacking after blocking an attack while aiming would cause a melee attack to happen instead of firing the ranged weapon being aimed.
Fixed attacking at the start of a roll stopping the roll.
Healing Revolver's description corrected to say it will heal 2 HP.
Fixed some menu navigation problems.
Hi everyone. Here's a pretty big content update! This update is adding some more melee weapons that you can find in the starting gear menu! There's also 2 new special attacks added as well!
These 3 new melee weapons add some more gameplay options that I hope you'll like!
Juliet is also getting another unlockable outfit!
Twitter is where I post the most and is where you can see what I am working on. So please follow me there if you are interested in my current and future games!
Thanks for playing!
New
3 new melee weapons can be equipped in starting gear. There are some requirements to unlock them though. After you defeat a certain boss or die a few times, they will become available.
Heavy Sword
This sword swings slower but deals more damage. You also start each run with bloodlust and blocking attacks gives you 2 seconds of invincibility. The range is also slightly longer. But you can not upgrade the range, your max health is 70, and your dodge regeneration is twice as long.
Club
This club swings slightly faster but does 50% less damage. Your dodge and special attack regeneration is also slightly slower and you only gain half a second of invincibility after blocking an attack. Your ranged weapons lose their durability slower and you start each run with an extra 50 health.
Unarmed
You attack fast but have little range. Punching enemies will increase the next punch's damage and attacking after blocking an enemy attack will do twice as much damage. If you attack while rolling, you will throw a heavy punch that can knock back enemies.
Added 2 new special attacks.
Charge
Charge forward and damage enemies in your way.
Parry
Parry an enemy attack to deal damage to the attacker. Parrying a projectile sends a projectile back towards the attacker.
Added Juliet Outfit 5. It can be unlocked by beating Cormac while unarmed.
Added damage numbers. They can be enabled or disabled in the gameplay settings.
Changes
Practice can now spawn all enemy types.
Practice has been moved to the main menu.
Increased Double Barrel Shotgun accuracy.
Healing Revolver will heal 2 HP instead of 1. (Forgot to update description, it will be updated in a later update.)
Buffed throwing knives special attack.
Final upgrade will deal damage to nearby enemies as well, but will not stun them.
Luck potion description mentions that it increases extra luck to your perks to hopefully better explain what the luck potion does.
King Eadgar now takes extra headshot damage. That's right, he didn't have this before. This was actually a mistake but he's been nerfed so much already, so he's probably used to it by now.
When first time ever starting the game, it will lock to 90 FPS instead of unlimited. This does not apply to players who have already started the game.
Bug Fixes
Fixed Juliet's outfit being incorrect or Juliet not even appearing when buying a weapon from her while having random outfits enabled.
Fixed melee attacks going through walls.
Fixed rolling while having speed potions active causing very abrupt stops. It should feel smoother now.
Fixed one of Juliet's animations clipping into her body.
Fixed the lights for Juliet's shop in level 3 where the torches were the wrong color or stuck in a wall.
The word align is no longer misspelled and the message explaining how to leave Juliet's shop has also been corrected.
A few changes made to hopefully prevent rare crashes.
Changes
Throwing Knives special attack rework.
The throwing knives special attack functions a little differently now. Generally I am avoiding nerfing things, but the throwing knives were a bit too strong. There was also a bug that was making them even better.
The second and third upgrades for throwing knives now increases the damage of the knife. No more impacting nearby enemies or throwing 2 knives. However, now the knife deals more damage.
Increased the knife's fall off.
Regeneration time is slightly longer.
Fixed a bug where the knife would pass through and hit multiple enemies only when upgraded once.
The price of healing will now adjust if your health is in the 91-99 range.
Decreased the chances of zombies that spawn during the Queen Elenid boss battle.
Decreased Queen Elenid's speed when her health is low.
If playing on Linux or Steam Deck, the opening cinematic and outfit animated 2d images will now automatically be disabled and the text size for item/weapon names and prompts will be set to large. This only happens if you have not launched the game at least once yet. These options can be changed in settings.
Bug Fixes
Fixed being unable to rebind the drop weapon button for gamepad.
Fixed healing potions appearing as if they were not purchasable even if the player had less than 5 healing potions while using the More Healing Potions starting perk.
Fixed a bug where healing could heal over 100 HP.
Fixed speed potions contents remaining inside the bottle when the item is not consumed while under the effects of the luck potion.
Hi everyone. Thanks for playing! Here's an update!
New
Added 2 new starting perks.
More Health Potions
Juliet will sell up to 5 potions instead of 3 with this perk enabled.
Quick Hands
Start with Quick Hands 2.
Added the option to disable automatically swapping items when you pick up another item.
Added some more options to the graphics settings.
Change the size of text for item/weapon names and prompts.
Disable or enable the opening cinematic and outfit animated images.
This option is mainly for Steam Deck users.
Changes
King Eadgar nerfed again. He shouldn't use ranged attacks as often.
Slightly decreased the chances of zombies spawning during the Queen Elenid fight.
Tricky Knife has less fall off when thrown which should make it easier to aim.
The tricky knife should also activate a wheel when the player is up close to the wheel, even without aiming directly at the wheel.
Weapons and health potions that spawn during the Cormac fight will glow/have a light above them now to be more noticeable.
Upgrading the spin attack is cheaper.
The spin attack's description now mentions you are invulnerable while spinning.
Enemies should no longer be able to enter Juliet's shop.
Changed the vampire's flying animation when it can no longer walk.
The Crossbow's bolts have been slightly modified and should not get caught on walls as often when peaking around corners.
The hint sign that would spawn at the start of a run after 3 game overs will now always be present. It has also been updated. Some of the tutorial messages have also been updated.
Changed some of the lightning when buying a weapon from Juliet.
Bug Fixes
Queen Elenid had a bug where at a certain amount of health she could get stuck in one place. This might still happen, but she should be able to break free now instead of being stuck indefinitely.
Throwing Knives special attack throwing animation should stop other animations such as sword swinging correctly now.
The projectile has also been changed to be more visible.
Throwing Knives upgrade icon has been changed to the correct icon in Juliet's shop.
Stronger Items starting perk now correctly says the perk starts the player off with Stronger Items 2.
Fixed coins still being removed when attempting to buy a healing potion from Juliet when you had enough coins to purchase the item, but already reached the limit of potions Juliet would sell.
Fixed dropping your weapon in Juliet's shop not resetting durability and ammo drops not dropping for the bow.
Fixed an issue where the aiming animation sometimes wouldn't play.
Fixed timed reload perk not working correctly with the revolver weapon.
Changes
Arachne's attacks can now destroy the columns.
Increased werewolf head hitbox.
Increased Cormac head hitbox.
King Eadgar should not attack at a distance as often as he was.
Quick Hands perk now mentions it increases your bow's reload time.
After 3 game overs a sign will appear at the start of the run. Reading it will give a few helpful reminders.
Bug Fixes
Moved a few misplaced barrels.
The intro cutscene should hopefully not drop frame rates as much.
Bug Fixes
One of the hidden coins had a duplicate coin of the same value nearby, which could cause confusion on how many coins were destroyed. This duplicate coin is no longer a problem.
Moved a floating object.
I hope you're all enjoying The Bleakest Keep!
The game is pretty challenging, but I am making a few changes to make some things a little easier. This update also includes some bug fixes and optimization.
Changes
Once you reach level 3, healing and healing potions will now only become 2.5x more expensive instead of 3x more.
If you pick up a weapon when low on that weapon's total type of ammo, you will be given a little bit of ammo when you pick up the weapon. Only applies to projectile, regular, and heavy weapons.
The Healing Revolver is now more durable.
One of Arachne's attacks has been slowed down.
Adjusted the amount of level 3 enemies.
Adjusted the amount of level 4 enemies.
Armored shotgun zombies now only deal 10 HP of damage instead of 20 HP of damage with their shotgun.
Werewolves now resist less damage while howling.
Fire will now only deal 1 HP of damage when you land on top of it after being knocked back.
Adjusted speed potion so it should be easier to control where you're moving while using multiple speed potions.
Bug Fixes
Level 3 should be much more optimized now. If you're frame rate was much lower during this level compared to the others, you should notice the improvement.
Melee attacks not resetting while using the hold to attack option should be fixed.
The Frying Pan should now be effective towards the armored shotgun zombies.
Vampire and werewolf eyes now change once defeated.
Fixed the tricky knife description incorrectly saying "active" when "activate" should be used.
Sorry for the pretty annoying bugs involving inputs.
This latest patch should finally fix these issues. Please let me know if any of these problems remain.
Fixed getting stuck when asked if you want to pick up a weapon or not.
Fixed not being able to pause the game
Fixed rocket launcher not destroying the hidden coins.
(Already fixed in last patch but rebinding keyboard controls correctly updates again.)
Changed King Eadgar so he doesn't jump back as often.
If you're running into any cpu heating issues, I recommend locking your frame rate.
Hopefully this should fix some of the problems!
Hi everyone! The Bleakest Keep is finally here! Good luck fighting your way to the top of the keep and defeating Cormac!
Thank you everyone for all the support while the game was in development. Please enjoy!
Hello!
Very big announcement!
The Bleakest Keep is launching September 10th, 2025!
Thank you everyone who has been following the game and playing the demo! This has been a pretty challenging game to work on and I really hope you enjoy the game when it launches! There's been some pretty big changes since the demo which should make the game faster paced and a little easier.
Not much longer of a wait now! Don't forget to add The Bleakest Keep to your Steam Wishlist!
Hi everyone!
Thanks for playing the demo!
As I continue to work on The Bleakest Keep, I wanted to share an update on how the game is developing and what kind of changes there will be when the full game releases.
First, I don't have a release date I can say yet. I do have a date in mind, but I don't want to give a date until I feel positive about it. I am hoping that the next update shared will be the release date.
Now for some new stuff. Its been super cool seeing the positive reception the demo has received! Now that I have seen how players are playing the game and what they are struggling with, I am making some changes which hopefully everyone will like.
The biggest change is ranged weapons will now have durability and can break. Weapons will now be found far more often by also being found in free chests. This is being done to keep runs more exciting because a lot of players seemed to always be stuck with the bow or found one weapon and would never change it. This should hopefully encourage players to try more weapons while also giving players more options far more often. This has been a bit difficult to balance, but I believe that overall it will improve the game. A weapon won't break until the player takes damage while its durability has run out. It will also be possible to repair weapons before they break.
Some perks and upgrades are being overhauled or removed. I'm removing some of the less interesting perks and also changing some of the current perks to be more noticeable. For example I'm removing the increase item use speed and adding more unique perks like increasing overall movement speed. The vampire perk, even though it was not underwhelming, was too overwhelming and was too strong. After multiple tries to change it to be more balanced, it was stuck feeling either way too strong or way too underpowered, so it will ultimately be removed. It will likely become a unique weapon instead.
After defeating a boss there will be another shop where you are presented with some random perks to choose from. They are the same perks you'd find in Juliet's shop and you can only choose one, however it will be free.
When the game launches there will also be a few new enemies! Here's a look at the werewolf enemy!
Some other changes include the regular health potion now healing 30 HP instead of 10 HP. Stamina/roll regeneration speed has also been greatly reduced by about half and the upgrade for stamina regeneration speed should feel more noticeable.
Levels 3 and 4 are almost finished. Level 3 is probably the longest level in the game and level 4 is probably the shortest level. After a run you will also be presented with a rank based on how good of a job you did!
Lastly, once everything is finished, I am planning to add unlockable outfits similar to my previous game Slay the Minotaur. Completing challenges can unlock outfits for Edward and Juliet. I'm hoping to have the unlockable outfits ready at launch and not as a post launch update. However, it is possible it may be a post launch update, but I really want to get everything I want to add to the game to be there at launch.
Thanks again for playing the demo! Next development update should hopefully include the release date! And don't forget to wishlist The Bleakest Keep!
