Very small patch here, oversights from our end that needed a quick fix :)
Geologist achievement has been fixed, you can now boot up the game, and you should get the achievement if you had collected all the rocks.
Pause menu popping up twice on some very particular circumstances.
In the latest patch note we addressed the issue with implementing in game online, and, after a lot of time spent on it, the amount of work needed is, daunting.
I would like to apologize about the false hope we've given, unfortunately, developing an in game online will probably be out of the equation, for now, probably forever. we agreed, to drop it, for multiple reasons, the main one being the amount of time needed to get it working, and the uncertainty of being able to ship a working game, with online implemented because we would need to rework stuff, that will also have an effect on the base game, and, if I have to chose between, shipping a cool, cute working game, that can only be played online through remote play, or an unstable online game, our choice is made.
We will still provide some small updates here and there to fix stuff, better some aspects of the game, but, TOOG, as it stands right now, is about final.
We appreciate all the support and love we received. You can follow That One Otter Game on socials to get our latest updates, we will very soon create socials for the studio, instead of using the game's socials, for anyone wishing to know all about any future games we might release.
Here it is. After long tedious hours of teaching our otters to remember stuff, they are ready to embark on a journey that they and you will surely remember! 🧠
Progress is saved when you get a stamp, pick up a rock, a hat, or get an achievement. You can now go back to previous areas of the map, with the game saving your position when doing so. Finishing the game no longer resets your save data either. (We've seen you achievement collectors!)
Other quality of life things were added and some bug fixing was needed, here’s the list:
- Save system for stamps, rocks, hats, achievements, story challenges.
- Teleportation between zones of the map.
- Camera focus can now be triggered for the keyboard player.
- After winning the game, you can now continue playing after the credits.
- Control reminders in the pause menu.
- Fixed an issue where Mom Otter’s dialogue re-triggered from far away.
- Fixed an issue where the King of the Hill achievement was stuck in a loop.
- Fixed an issue where the dialogue prompt was detached from NPCs.
- Fixed an issue where players were not respawning when too far away and the camera was tilting down on the top right target.
- Collision overhaul, we went over a lot of little issues, there is still stuff to do, but a lot was fixed.
- Keyboard keys now displays on tutorials.
- Meshes adjustment to resolve few visual problems.
- Spelling mistakes.
- Overall menu accessibility.
We are slowly coming to an end of fixing bugs, implementing demanded features, and patching on steam.
Our sound guys are coming with some interesting stuff for the game, to give it a more lively feel, we are also overall still working on more bug fixing, more art update and maybe seasonal content, like for Halloween and stuff.
We also have the car in mind, it's too buggy to our taste.
Now, time for a big talk, online multiplayer.
Online is usually something that, devs need to take into account at the root, when making a game, and TOOG was never designed for it, making it's implementation in game quite tough.
We are debating whether or not we keep investing resources in it, when remote play exists and works, we for now have a working connection between two players and a lobby, the issue lies when we start and boot up the main game, everything crashes for now, the connected player cannot properly play the game, and we are still investigating why, we'll keep you all updated.
One other main reason to all this is, we want to ship this game in a great state, and leave a game to remember behind us when we move on from it, as some of you may know, we were a student studio, and now we are very uncertain about the future of crayon coded, some wants to move on, some wants to keep it going, and if it does, is it time for a new game?
Anyways, thank you park visitor, for playing our silly game and sticking around, we truly hope all these patches and update can make this experience, a memorable one. Have fun running around the park, little one!

As we know, optimization is a crucial part of any game. Today we’re deploying a patch to address this issue.
If you’re in a hurry, here’s what happened : less choppy otters, more control over graphics settings ! 🎉
Otterwise, here’s a summary :
- NPCs are now better optimized overall, including otters, humans, penguins, even zebras!
- As a result, otter NPCs might have some weird behavior, we are still tweaking stuff to make performance overall better, NPCs were and are still a bit of an issue.
- NPCs got a lot of bugs fixed, they should feel better, act nicer, and maybe getting a penguin to the top of the mountain will be easier!
- Ragdolls have been reworked and they should not got through the floor as much as they did.
- Some texts were placeholders left there, an oversight, they have been removed.
- Minor level changes around the map.
- Water is still fresh looking, but runs better.
- The Old Village Chief otter is now in better shape, and allowed us to make navigation simpler.
- A new “Graphics” menu is available to change graphics settings.
- A new slider to change Resolution Quality is available in graphics settings.
- When far away, objects will be in a lower resolution. LODs were added to most meshes.
- Settings now save and reapply on rebooting the game.
We focused on both processing (game thread) and graphics. You now have access to graphics presets, or set your own. Next optimization patches will likely focus on the game thread, where most of the bottleneck occurs.
We’re still actively developing features to have saving capabilities and online to play with friends remotely as well as reworking the level design and setdressing to feel more natural, and better looking.
We also are working on little bugs that are going to be fixed quite soon, either on small patch notes, or on the bigger ones, but worry not, it is coming.
If you’re encountering any bug or issue, let us know and we’ll fix it.
Thanks for the support everyone! 🤙
- Leo & Maël
I know all of you are waiting on the optimization patch and the addition of online co-op, we're working on it as fast as possible, and thank you for your patience! I would like to give a proper shoutout to the user Dex, who wrote a guide on how to optimize our game for people struggling with FPS issues. It really helps while we work on the patch and gives great insights on where to begin fixing problems. 🙌 LINK TO THE GUIDE (Make sure to give the guide an award if you can — it goes a long way! 🏅💖)
I've seen you, I've heard you, ACHIEVEMENTS! 🏆🦦
They're here, and you can already run around the park to display your prowess to the world! 💪
Thank you all for being kind and patient, and I hope you’re having a fun experience playing That One Otter Game! 💙🎉 – Mael 🐾
Hello everyone, dev team here.
We wanted to give all of the players who gave us a chance a massive thank you. When we first started advertising That One Otter Game, we never expected to reach such a big audience, and we're still trying to wrap our minds around it!
We've seen your enthusiasm, your love, but your complaints as well and wanted to address them:
Online multiplayer:
Online Multiplayer has been highly requested, through social media and Steam reviews. We apologize for it not being available on release. We actually never expected our game to get this far and didn't think that so many people around the world wanted to actively play with long distance friends. But we've heard you, and our programmers are working on it. In the meantime, we activated Steam Remote Play (which hadn't activated before for some reason ?..) to make it easier to still enjoy local coop from afar. (And hopefully it stays on this time, and if not you can use Parsec!)
Saving your progress:
Saving progress and settings wasn't implemented in the game because we all thought of it as a one shot game that you boot up and finish in one go, but people are asking for the ability to save the game so we will definitely take a look at it once bigger issues have been tackled!
Optimization and bug fixing:
We have heard and read about performance issues and lack of graphics settings, and we apologize for anyone having a bad experience with the game so far. It's an oversight on our end, and we never really got the time or chance to test the game on lower end rigs. When it comes to high end rigs experiencing heavy stutters, we are currently investigating it in order to release a patch ASAP! ✨
Content addition:
That One Otter Game, as it has already been shipped, will probably mostly remain the same when it comes to in-game content. We wanted an experience that you can enjoy on the fly. Taking in consideration that we are a very small team of newly graduates, we do no want the game's scope to overwhelm us. That being said, we are open to (and planning) on adding some more content left and right! We will communicate about it in due time on our socials. For now, our main goal is to give every player a premium experience of TOOG before thinking of adding anything new to the game. Steam achievements might be on the way too!😉
We are working as hard as we can behind the scene to deliver the content you all deserve and will keep you updated along the way. We hope we'll continue receiving your support!
We are going to be opening a Ko-fi page soon for anyone who would like to make a small donation to help support our game. It is totally optional of course, but massively appreciated! 💙
Thanks again for the love, the laughs, and the support. You’re all incredible!
Thanks for being patient, we are a few students learning along the way and just graduated from school, but we are trying to make a fun and memorable experience out of That One Otter Game. We're so grateful for our community. 🦦🙌
