Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got a quick recap of UKGE 2026 and a reminder about Terraria: The Board Game – Plantera Awakens! --- TERRARIA: THE BOARD GAME AT UKGE From Friday 29th to Sunday 31st May, the Paper Fort Games team were at UK Games Expo in Birmingham, UK. It was incredible to meet so many of you in person and to hear about your adventures with the game. It was also a fantastic chance to introduce the game to Terraria fans who were seeing the game for the first time! UKGE GIF.gif It was the biggest UKGE ever, with 87,837 attendees, and it felt like it! A huge thank you to Matt for sorting the event logistics, and to our wonderful booth staff who worked tirelessly to share our games with convention-goers! --- TERRARIA: THE BOARD GAME - PLANTERA AWAKENS! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/5d9216c3afa77f5e668af760a6c4dc438a74562b.jpg In case you missed last month’s update - we’re delighted to announce that we’re expanding the world of Terraria: The Board Game to include Hardmode! Plantera Awakens will be the first of two Hardmode expansions, splitting the onward adventure into pre-Plantera and post-Plantera boxes. The expansion will feature a quick-start scenario binder, events, new biomes, your favourite pre-Plantera bosses, and much more. We’ll also be incorporating features requested by backers over the past few months (and some suggestions all the way back from the original campaign; we keep a list!). Alongside a huge range of Hardmode enemies, equipment, and areas to explore, one of our major goals is to make games faster and easier to tailor in difficulty. You’ll be able to begin Hardmode with suggested class-specific loadouts, while new ‘break-out’ boards will allow exploration of Sky Islands, preparation of pre-boss arenas, and more. There’s a lot we’re excited to show you, and we’ll be sharing more details over the coming months via the expansion Kickstarter preview page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paperfortgames/terraria-board-game-hardmode-expansion-plantera Be sure to click “Notify Me” for updates and sneak peeks! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/d524a8fa35e3148e974fc27a1b6c55a920d80285.gif --- Until next time, Terrarians! -Chris and the Paper Fort Games team {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/3c24853f896391bff2d39309d74b489d2394da30.png

Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got some very exciting plant-based news! Did you spot the teaser hidden in last month’s update? Tucked away in the footer was this little clue… {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/f1967983bab0b751e2c9c976ac75fc34f7daa7af.png --- TERRARIA: THE BOARD GAME - PLANTERA AWAKENS! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/5d9216c3afa77f5e668af760a6c4dc438a74562b.jpg We’re delighted to announce that we’re expanding the world of Terraria: The Board Game to include Hardmode! As with all of the artwork in Terraria: The Board Game, this piece was lovingly created by George Doutsiopoulos, with guidance from the Paper Fort and Re-Logic teams. Once again, he’s completely blown us away with the final result. You can see George’s process from initial sketch to final artwork in the GIF below. We can’t wait to see this artwork printed on a future playmat! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/d524a8fa35e3148e974fc27a1b6c55a920d80285.gif Can you identify the Terrarian’s gear and spot the hidden Easter Eggs? Let us know in the comments! --- MEET US AT UK GAMES EXPO - STAND 2-522 We’ll also be attending UK Games Expo (UKGE) again this year, where we’ll have Terraria: The Board Game on display alongside some of our upcoming projects, including Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game. There will be limited stock of the KS edition of Terraria available at the show. UKGE will be taking place at the NEC in Birmingham from Friday 29th to Sunday 31st May. If you’re attending, come by and say hello - we’d love to meet fellow Terrarians and hear about your adventures so far! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/cbc93f091a794cbd8c45c27046f29a770de5667b.jpg https://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/ --- We can’t wait to show you more of what we’ve been working on. Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. This month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary is a relatively brief one as we push through the final stages of fulfilment. We’re incredibly excited to see copies arriving with backers—and even more so to hear that the board game truly feels like the video game. So, with that said, let's get to checking out what lies beneath the Terraria Tree this year!
Let's lead off with the main news of the month - while December wound up being impossible - we can share that the first console submissions are indeed in and being reviewed by first parties. In addition, our global partners in Korea/Japan/China have been given the release submission builds so that they can work on any tweaks and additions needed on their end. Taken all together, these are precisely what we needed to accomplish to ensure that January is looking good for the launch of Terraria 1.4.5. We do not know exactly when in January that Terraria 1.4.5 will release just yet. Once the results of the first submission are in, we will have a MUCH better sense of timing. As soon as we know, you will know. Why didn't December happen? To give you a short summary, it just was not possible to get every platform and global partner together in time to rush out a December release that would arrive early enough in the month that we would be able to ensure all hands on deck for any hotfixes and the like. Submissions take time - and even if we had gotten lucky and everything went perfectly the first time (highly unlikely), that would have meant a launch right into the Christmas week, and we just do not feel right asking all of our teams to forego time with family and friends and skipping the Holidays. We have also always been VERY anti-crunch as a company, so we were never going to ask people to work insane hours and weekends to try and shave a few days. We all wanted 1.4.5 out in 2025, trust us, but at some point, we just have to say discretion is the better part of valor. That said, we did get our submissions in, so hopefully we get a clean review (or more likely just need some small changes and a second submission) to start the new year and we are off and running. We wanted to close by sharing a few holiday-themed builds from our beta testers and to wish each of you a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and we cannot wait to kick off 2026 in style with the release of Terraria 1.4.5 and then to hop right into what else we have planned. Thank you all for another amazing year - we could not and would not be able to do all of this without you. Cheers, Terrarians!

At long last, our good friends at Hystar have recently released a series of super high quality desk mats featuring some of the most iconic scenes and characters from Terraria! These desk mats measure in at 36"x16" (900mmx400mm) and are 5mm thick. This is the perfect addition to any Terraria fan's desktop setup! These will be available both on Hystar's website and on Amazon - though for the present, Hystar is suggesting that fans use Amazon. To pick yours up today, click the banner image above!
Our good friends at Fire and Steel have been making realistic replica Terraria swords for several years now - seriously, if you haven't seen the stainless steel True Nights Edge or Meowmere, you are missing out! However, we are very aware that a stainless steel sword isn't necessarily everyone's cup of tea nor are they necessarily affordable for a lot of folks. Taking those things together, Fire and Steel is proud to reveal the first sturdy foam sword in the lineup - Meowmere! We hope that this will be far more approachable and affordable for Terraria fans that want their hands on this iconic weapon. Of course, the stainless steel versions recently came back in stock as well - so be sure to check out the entire Terraria collection at Fire and Steel today! Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got some very exciting news – games are on the way! Grab your pickaxes and let’s dig in! --- MPC (MANUFACTURER PRODUCTION COPIES) APPROVED AND GAMES ARE BEING PACKED! We are very, very happy to report that Gameland managed to get updated MPCs to us quicker than anticipated, and after a thorough review at the end of last month, they were fully approved! 🤩 Games are currently being packed and divided into shipments that will travel to fulfilment hubs across the world. As each split is completed, the batches are transported by lorry to the sea port and loaded onto cargo ships destined for each region. The only exception here is games for backers in some parts of Asia where pledges will be transported overground to fulfilment hubs, rather than by sea. As soon as each ship leaves port, we’ll share the vessel name and tracking information. While the games are in transit, we’ll be finalising fulfilment data and sending everything to our fulfilment partners so they can dispatch copies as efficiently as possible once stock arrives. --- CARTON CUSTOMIZATION One perk of pre-packaging everything is the ability to customise the outer cartons. Within the limitations of black ink on brown cardboard, we’ve given each carton a little extra personality! --- CLASS BUILD EXAMPLES Recently, a backer asked if we could share examples of different class builds (equipment, armor, consumable and action card combinations that would allow you to lean into a certain playstyle) We thought it was a great idea; you can find some simple examples below! Mid-Game Late-Game --- PAX UNPLUGGED RECAP Last month, Matt and Chris attended PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia, PA – it was a tiring but fantastic trip and a wonderful chance to meet backers and show the game. They managed to fit everything for the booth into their luggage; Terraria just fits into carry-on dimensions with some room leftover for spare socks! Thank you to everyone who stopped by the stand; we never get tired of meeting Terrarians and witnessing people's excitement at seeing the game in person; especially the transparent armor cards, modular bosses and world playmat! The convention was also a chance to catch up with the Artovision team who make the official Terraria shadowboxes! --- THANK YOU! Thank you, as always, for your support, enthusiasm and patience. We're so close and we can’t wait for you to experience Terraria: The Board Game! Until next time, Terrarians! -Chris and the Paper Fort Games team Until next time, Terrarians - we hope you have an amazing month, and we look forward to bringing you the latest and greatest next time!
Greetings, Terrarians! Another month has flown by and the team has made some great strides towards the completion of Terraria 1.4.5. Localization work (at least in regards to the PC side of things) has pretty much been completed at this point - outside of a few stragglers that we may just take care of within a post-release hotfix. Outside of that, the team has been hard at work testing and fixing bugs as well as coordinating with all of our various global partners to try and get everyone as far advanced as possible in parallel. We have not yet reached the point of making first party submissions, but we should hopefully be there soon. We will try to let everyone know once those submissions are in, at which point things will be mostly out of our control. We do have guesstimates about how long that will take based on past rounds, but we have seen it go way faster and way slower before so you never know.
Hoping things go well with the whole testing and submissions process, while simultaneously planning for what comes next...
Hello everyone! On December 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. As always we are grateful for the massive amount of community participation in developing and testing new features each month. This month's release contains various bug fixes and smaller features. We've fixed several regressions related to the liquid rendering fixes from last month and fixed some UI inconsistencies and errors. For modders, this month's release includes support for custom pressure plates along with new hooks for tile interactions, as well as new hooks for custom armor set shadow effects and transforming the full player rendering. As usual, we'd like to encourage modders to test out new tModLoader features on the preview branch if they are relevant to your mod. Major features in preview are listed on our Discord. Modders and users should also keep an eye out for our monthly Steam announcement on the 1st where a complete listing of bug fixes and API changes for this month's release will be listed. Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got information about our latest MPC (Manufacturer Production Copy), the project timeline, foiled boss cards and packaging. Grab your pickaxes and let’s dig in! --- MPC (MANUFACTURER PRODUCTION COPY) + TIMELINE This part of the process is always exciting and terrifying in equal measure. We received MPCs (Manufacturer Production Copies) from Gameland earlier this month, and while the vast majority of the components were spot-on, we identified a few areas that need to be addressed and ultimately, we weren’t able to approve the MPCs. Everything we flagged is being addressed, but this will take time and as a result shipping and fulfilment will unfortunately need to be pushed back. This is disappointing, but we will always choose quality over speed; we're committed to creating the best product possible and we’re not going to settle for sending you anything other than that. Gameland estimated that rectifying these issues and getting another MPC to us would take 3-4 weeks. With the holidays looming and congested shipping routes at this time of year, at this stage it’s hard to say exactly when games will arrive in each region. There’s a chance that some backers in Asia might receive their copies this year (as these will be shipped ‘overland’, rather than via sea freight) but it’s looking likely that most backers will receive their pledges in early 2026. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll have a better idea of timescale and we’ll continue to keep you as up to date as we possibly can; in the meantime we really, really appreciate your patience. --- IT'S NOT ALL DOOM AND GLOOM! When you’re looking for problems, it’s really easy to overlook all of the things that are wonderful, so here’s a rundown of what excited us about the MPCs! PUNCHBOARD DELAMINATION IS FIXED In the last update, we discussed the punchboard issues we had come across in the copy provided to us at Essen. We're very happy to report that there was no evidence of peeling in the copies that we received yesterday, so we won’t be needing to reprint 150,000 punchboards. Thank goodness! FOILED BOSS CARDS We’re absolutely thrilled with how the foiled boss cards turned out. Opening the boss card deck feels like opening the best trading card pack ever; every card is a shiny! They have a very nostalgic ‘Team Rocket Pokémon card’ vibe, and they look fantastic stored inside the Boss Boxes. PACKAGING This one’s a bit nerdy, but super important for making sure that your games get to you in pristine condition. The packaging of the games is excellent; we’ve upgraded the protection even further with a higher density foam in place of corner protectors, and Gameland’s drop tests show that the packages are able to stand up to some serious punishment, as you can see in the video below! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/56e0564d29edd4a9f79990d85d8c05e01d4e0632.png A packaged Hellstone pledge (banana for scale) {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/e8d3b9056682aa8057999ffc94169ca88d0e1ebc.png Hellstone pledge packaging render. Top to bottom: High-density foam, promo booster packs, game box, high-density foam, Hellstone extras box, additional high-density foam, carton. --- THANK YOU! Thank you so much for your support and for bearing with us while we navigate these final hurdles; we can’t wait for you to experience Terraria: The Board Game! Until next time, Terrarians! -Chris and the Paper Fort Games team

Hello again, everyone. Last month, we shared that we were quite close to the content complete/Release Candidate stage. Things are still looking pretty decent in that regard, enough so that parallel beta testing is underway on most platforms so that we can go ahead and capture and fix bugs as they arrive rather than a strictly sequential process. Additional work has been underway this month focused on localization - not only for the new content, but also weaving in three new languages and the localization community review conducted over the past year or so. This should ulimately yield better translations for existing content that more accurately take game context into account. We are also thrilled to at long last be able to provide Terraria in Korean, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. This area of game development is often more complex than it seems, so we are very glad that it is NEARLY done! That leads us to the third topic - one that we all know and love - planning for things like first party submissions and any additional work needed by our global partners in order to enable a global sync launch. To put it mildly and not to bore anyone with the details, there are a LOT of moving parts and interdependencies that we have to manage in this process. It is also not a very quick system to navigate and it comes with a lot of unknowns (you can never say what a given first party might take issue with... requiring additional fixes... and another round of submissions). We do have a plan in place, if all goes perfectly to schedule, for when those submissions might occur. Beyond that, it is honestly a wild card as to how long it takes - a wild card with some reasonable boundaries, but still a wild card. Toss in the Holidays for everyone involved (e.g. at some point, the first party reviewers are gone for the year), and it gets even messier.
Hoping things go well with the whole testing and submissions process, while simultaneously planning for what comes next...
Hello everyone! On November 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. As always we are grateful for the massive amount of community participation in developing and testing new features each month. This last month we hosted our third official mod jam on our Discord server. The theme was "Anything Can Happen on Halloween!" and we had several spooky mod submissions. We thank everyone who participated and hope it was fun and a great practice! We encourage players to check out the mod jam submissions on the workshop here! If you are interested in participating in the next mod jam, be sure to come to Discord to be notified. This month's release contains mostly bug fixes and smaller features. We've fixed several UI inconsistencies, fixed a major sound volume issue, and even fixed major issues with how liquids are drawn, especially around sloped tiles. We've also implemented changes to support launching the game on ARM processors, which should prove useful to those looking to host dedicated servers on ARM machines. For modders, this month's release contains a few new features, most notably new API for modifying potion delay values. Other new features include more fixes for biome conversion and support for uploading server-side mods in-game. As usual, we'd like to encourage modders to test out new tModLoader features on the preview branch if they are relevant to your mod. Major features in preview are listed on our Discord. We look forward to seeing how mods make use of these new features. As always, if you are having issues of any sort, definitely don't hesitate to check out our FAQ on github or reach out to us at our Discord.
Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got production and fulfilment progress, highlights from our time at Spiel Essen, excerpts from my original design notebooks, and an exciting improvement to the deluxe neoprene player boards included in the Hellstone Pledge. Grab your pickaxes and let’s dig in! --- SPIEL ESSEN RECAP We’ve just returned from an incredible few days in Germany for Spiel Essen! A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, checked out the production sample of Terraria: The Board Game, and shared your enthusiasm for all things Terraria. Meeting so many of you in person was truly wonderful. Massive thanks to our amazing demo team for helping us run the booth throughout the show. With over 220,000 visitors across four days, it was as exhausting as it was exhilarating, but it’s definitely one of our favourite events of the year! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/98ede3417605843354479e6f64dcd919f5def6f3.jpg --- MANUFACTURING NEARING COMPLETION! Last month, we shared production photos of the game’s trays, dice, and miniatures. Since then, the factory has been busy producing all the cardboard components including cards, punchboards, and player reference sheets. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/0af040c180e9d67c8cb0e1d4bf9c20821b6aa685.jpg DELUXE NEOPRENE UPGRADE Developing the Hellstone Pledge deluxe player mats has been quite the journey; over eight months of testing, refining, and problem-solving! To our knowledge, no one has used dual-layer neoprene quite like this before. Originally, we used traditional sublimation printing, but the colours weren’t vibrant enough and aligning the layers proved tricky. After lots of experimentation by the Gameland team, we’ve switched to a new approach: a thin PU top layer with UV printing. This change gives us thicker and more vibrant mats with much higher resolution printing, plus laser-cut edges mean no fraying and thus no stitching required. The result feels like a true upgrade from the previous design, and we are really happy with the outcome. Below is a comparison of the two approaches; like any physical product, it’s always worth spending a little extra time to get the very best outcome. PUSH-FIT BOSSES At Spiel Essen, we received samples of the final mold-cast bosses, and they have turned out nicely! The modular, push-fit design is sturdy and satisfying to assemble and disassemble. Over the weekend, we rebuilt them hundreds of times, and they’ve held up perfectly with no loosening of the push-fit mechanism. BIOME TILE PUNCHBOARDS We expected the copy of the game provided to us at Essen to be a final MPC (Manufacturer Production Copy). During the show, we noticed that the laminate coating on the biome tiles was peeling; this would have been a major manufacturing issue requiring re-manufacture of all the affected components (over 150,000 punchboards), so we immediately met face-to-face with Gameland’s CEO to investigate. Thankfully, it turned out that the Essen copy was laminated using a different machine than the one used for final production. Gameland has confirmed this doesn’t affect the mass-production copies, but we’ll need to review another ‘true’ MPC before shipping, to ensure everything meets our high standards. --- SOMETHING FROM THE ARCHIVES A couple of week ago, Chris unearthed his original design notebook from the very first weeks of the game’s development, over 2½ years ago! It’s fascinating to see how some ideas evolved while others, like transparent cards for player progression, were there from day one. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/8355e21fdb94d6a2c7a3567e8c85ef3bb5da384e.jpg --- TIMELINE Gameland have informed us that our final MPC (Manufacturer Production Copy) will be ready on 6th November, a few weeks later than they originally predicted. This is mainly due to delays in eProofs being provided to us and foiling processes taking longer than anticipated, for which Gameland have apologised - they are working diligently to finish the production run as quickly as possible, while maintaining the same high level of quality control. If this MPC copy is 100% correct and can be approved, we have been informed that the games will be available for pickup from the factory (in China) around 15th November. Overground fulfilment to backers in Asia will begin immediately, and games to other regions will be loaded onto boats as soon as possible thereafter. If you’re a backer, be sure to keep your eyes out for mini-updates over the next few weeks. Until next time, Terrarians! -Chris and the Paper Fort Games team

The team has been hard at work this month, aiming to reach the "content complete" (also known as the Release Candidate) stage within the next couple of weeks. What does that mean, exactly? Well, that means that - at that point - we will have officially added all of the new content/features/etc. that will make it into Terraria 1.4.5. After that, all that is left to do is testing, tweaking, and bug fixing. Of course, that testing/fixing process takes a good amount of time and is somewhat unpredictable (we had some pretty nasty tickets emerge just this past week, for example). Once we reach "content complete" and we have a bit of time to focus on fixing, we should have a much better sense of precisely when Terraria 1.4.5 will reach completion. We are working as closely as possible with our partners in parallel to try and shorten the time needed on the backend for first party submissions, localization, etc. - as, again, our goal for 1.4.5 is a global synchronized launch. All that said, reaching content complete is a major milestone and we are truly at the final stages now. We know this update has taken far too long to get out to you all, and we are sorry for that. We do hope that you enjoy it once it is out - and that you are excited for what else is in store for the future of Terraria. More on that in the months ahead. For now, we are all in on the push to get this update out to you as quickly as possible! This month's spoiler looks at some improvements to the way NPC Housing operates and is communicated to the player... {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/e391dae59456ffd1ede440abc751e91d750d1d45.png Villagers no longer require a House in order to appear! (That said, if you haven't built them a House, they'll ask for one!) We've also added additional hints on how a house can be built, and, added visualization for how housing is scanned! Any Villagers that do not have a house assigned to them will leave for safety when night comes!

Hello everyone! On October 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. As always we are grateful for the massive amount of community participation in developing and testing new features each month. This month's release contains the new ModAchievement feature. We are excited to see how mods use ModAchievement and how they'll give players long-term goals to work towards. We've seen many mod makers showcasing their new achievement art this last month and look forward to seeing them in-game. The in-game news button on the main menu will direct you directly to the announcement once it is live. We look forward to seeing how mods make use of these new features. As always, if you are having issues of any sort, definitely don't hesitate to check out our FAQ on github or reach out to us at our Discord.
The TML Steam Workshop has over 10,000 mods for you to enjoy! Coupled with the in-game mod browser, the TML Steam Workshop is a great way to explore what modded Terraria has to offer - check it out today by clicking the banner above!
More features, continuing to evolve and grow what TML can do... and getting ready for 1.4.5. As always, you can keep track the current progress and much more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.) Developers who are willing to contribute may do so by doing PRs to the tModLoader/tModLoader branch. (See tModLoader/tModLoader)
Hey there, Terrarians! Once again, another month has flown by as we work hand-in-hand with Re-Logic to get 1.4.5 over the line. Work across multiple platforms is heating up as we near the Release Candidate stage and we really have to start planning for submissions and such in earnest. Hopefully, we will make it through that process cleanly and quickly - but it is always a bit unpredictable! We have some other things planned to share with you in the coming months, but that is a topic for another day. For now, we hope you are ready for a day sailing the open... skies? https://i.imgur.com/3DaTSiE.gifYo ho ho! I said to stack the cannonballs neatly on the deck, yeh landlubber! --- Until next time, Console & Mobile friends - thanks for all of your love and support!

The Re-Logic team sat down this past month for one last parsing of the list of items remaining. Some things were deferred and others prioritized - all in an effort to arrive at something we have been looking forward to for quite a while: an internal launch window. Up until this point, the timing has been somewhat fluid based on additional content needs and unexpected bugs and such. We are not quite ready to share that timeline publicly just yet, but we have informed all of our internal partners (DR Studios, etc) of the plan so that we can work together to make this happen. More than ever before with 1.4.5, this is truly the final push. Speaking of the release of Terraria 1.4.5, we are hoping for and planning on this being a global launch. What that means is that we are aiming to release on all platforms at or around the same time. That includes PC, Consoles, Mobile, China Mobile, etc. We are considering this somewhat of a "dry run" for the post-Crossplay world - which is something we hope to bring to fruition in very short order once 1.4.5 is out and all hotfixes are done. This requires a lot of coordination and planning for things like localization and submissions. As mentioned above, that process is well underway. Happy to answer questions from anyone as we can, but things are really coming into focus now... As for spoilers this month, the team thought it might be fun to look at some of the unsung work that goes into these updates. Bug fixes, tweaks, and changes that may not have a lot of visual flash and sizzle, but certainly impact the Terraria experience. We've shared an example below: Ticket TER-2230 - "Better convey the existence of player defense multipliers in Expert/Master+ worlds" The issue at play here is that Player Defense in Expert and Master+ worlds is subject to defense values being multiplied by 1.5 and 2.0 respectively, but this information is never conveyed to the player, resulting in players mistakenly believing defense becomes less and less valuable as the world difficulty increases. This leads to players making suboptimal build decisions. However, just increasing the defense number also can create confusion, so there needs to be some way to communicate both the increase effect and the fact that it is tied to a given difficulty level. Lots of ideas and discussions then occur - do you just increase the numbers, do you do a hover-over tooltip, maybe a graphic element, etc. - until we arrive at a final decision, shown below: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/f48b01876cf72e5fb4027efbb5385ccb366d7c46.gif In 1.4.5, the Defense Shield shape and colors change along with providing an explanation for how much damage is mitigated for that level of Defense on a given difficulty. There are countless little things like the above that go into each update - alongside the bugs that we all know and hate being squashed underfoot. Speaking of bugs, nearly 900 bugs have been closed during the development process of 1.4.5! Again, we are in the final push now. The content list is locked in, the bug and ticket list is locked in and the internal timeline is set. We are hopeful that we will be able to share something more publicly soon!

Hello everyone! On September 1st, the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. As always we are grateful for the massive amount of community participation in developing and testing new features each month. This month's release contains new interaction options for NPCs and projectiles, as well as a full rework of our code analyzer now called tModCodeAssist. We'd like to encourage modders to experiment with the new ModAchievement feature that will be available on the preview branch. We know modded achievements have been a highly requested feature for some time, so we are excited to see mods use them. Testing and feedback will help ensure that this feature is ready for everyone next month. Modders and users should also keep an eye out for our monthly Steam announcement on the 1st where a complete listing of bug fixes and API changes for this month's release will be listed. The in-game news button on the main menu will direct you directly to the announcement once it is live. We look forward to seeing how mods make use of these new features. Hey there, Terrarians! It has been a fun month indeed, working with Re-Logic towards the internal deadline for Terraria 1.4.5 while also preparing for the additional work that will go into ensuring a smooth launch across console/mobile and the world. Don't think that we have forgotten about Crossplay either, as plans are underway to try and get that out to everyone as soon as possible. We also are working on a few other ideas for improvements down the line, but more on that later. For now, let's have a quick peek at another of the amazing furniture sets coming your way soon... {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/e1069d869519b9bc1940c7c4d28d96211a5c57b2.pngWhat could this set possibly be named? Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got exciting news about the game’s development, final sample images, an updated gameplay video and more. Grab your pickaxes and let’s dig in! --- LAST CHANCE TO BACK - LATE PLEDGES CLOSE ON SEPTEMBER 30TH If you missed the campaign but still want to grab a copy of the game, now’s your chance! Late pledges will close on 30th September 2025. After this date, the world playmat will no longer be available, and any remaining Kickstarter editions will only be sold through our website, at a higher price. For the best deal (and to secure the playmat), make your pledge now at: Pre-order ⛏ Terraria: The Board Game on BackerKit {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/91a9c80efd77c00e0253abab7394422d0f2ae473.png --- DEVELOPMENT COMPLETE! We are *very* excited to announce that apart from the rulebook (which is going through the layout and graphic design process), we have now submitted all of the game’s final files to the manufacturer! This is a massive milestone, and a huge relief, as it means that development is complete and that final production will begin shortly! Wooden components, miniatures and dice have already been manufactured, so we’ve got a bit of a head start on the process, and we’re hoping that Gameland will be able to send us some photos of production over the coming weeks so that we can share the manufacturing process with you! As well as the rulebook, the lion’s share of last month’s workload was performing ‘consistency passes’ on the game’s components. In the end, our consistency document contained almost 150 checks that need to be performed on every component. There were also some additional checks for particularly tricky and/or technical components. For example, all transparent cards in the game have a ‘white layer’ (shown as pink in the GIF below) that is printed first to ensure that artwork areas are opaque – we needed to check that every transparent card’s white layer and art layer matched up exactly. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/111eb7eea61638a5d3948feedf178ffa57baf6d4.gif --- SAMPLES Foiled Box Lid Here’s the game’s cover, complete with foil-stamped logo! Though it doesn’t seem so in these images, the ‘THE BOARD GAME’ subtitle is quite hard to read when foiled, so we’ve opted to keep that part foil-free for the final cover, but otherwise we think this looks beautiful, and will easily set the Kickstarter versions of the game apart from retail. https://i.imgur.com/EoZ1V6s.gif Character Pack Hellstone backers will be receiving the wooden character pack as part of their pledge; below you can see how it can be swapped out for the foam block so that it can be stored inside the game box! https://i.imgur.com/FoM0jau.gif Foiled Pwnhammer Here’s the limited-edition, uniquely-numbered, Pwnhammer card in all its foiled glory! https://i.imgur.com/fxk9wvw.gif Foiled Boss Cards Boss cards have also received the shiny treatment, with some areas spared for readability. https://i.imgur.com/iZ93v0I.gifhttps://i.imgur.com/oSGU9vY.gif https://i.imgur.com/SLJSrb6.gif {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/ee1caea6e575e756e681cd868a3e9e950ceebe38.jpg Promo Pack Boosters Backers will be receiving the Developer Promo Pack (containing the Dev Set vanities) and the Seasonal promo pack (combining the Christmas and Halloween Promo cards); here are the boosters that they’ll come in (these samples are unsealed so we can check that all the cards fit inside… they do!) {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/f3990577cbff3560fbbe06e8f163ed2fd65ab60d.jpg Slime Graveyard Finally, in last month’s update I mentioned that we had a drawer full of rejected samples, including a slime graveyard! This video is also public and shareable, so feel free to share with anyone who might be interested! --- SHIPPING AND TARIFFS UPDATE If you’re a backer, you can find full details on shipping (including tariffs) in our August update here > TERRARIA: THE BOARD GAME PROJECT UPDATE , including an incredibly generous move by the Re-Logic team. --- We'll be Back in September! The Re-Logic team continues to be hard at work whittling away at the pile of tickets. This month has seen quite a bit of effort focused on one of the new unique World Seeds. It is indeed a pesky one, given the odd ways it seems to interact with the worldgen. We are not quite ready to dive into the details of that one just yet, so you will have to remain in the dark for now. As to what we do have to show this month... Inspired somewhat by the Kwad Racer Drone, the team has added a brand new RC Car that you can use to zip around your Terraria worlds. It can even climb backwalls! We cannot wait to see what crazy racetracks the Terraria community might come up with to challenge even the most daredevil drivers out there. Be sure to share them with us when the time comes! https://i.imgur.com/QqtKuJN.gif Wait... it can climb walls as well?! What other goodies are in store for Terraria 1.4.5... time will tell!

Hello everyone! On August 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. As always we are grateful for the massive amount of community participation in developing and testing new features each month. This last month we hosted our first official mod jam on our Discord server and it was a mind-blowing success. The theme was "Game Tribute" and we were impressed with how many high quality submissions we had. We thank everyone who participated and hope it was fun and a great practice! We encourage players to check out the =Mod+Jam+Entry]mod jam submissions on the workshop here. If you are interested in participating in the next mod jam, be sure to come to Discord to be notified. This month's release contains several notable features that mod makers can look forward to, such as the highly requested ModConfig.SaveConfig feature. Users will be happy to know that this release fixes many sound issues, most notably sounds cutting each other off or stopping early. Modders and users should also keep an eye out for our monthly Steam announcement on the 1st where a complete listing of bug fixes and API changes for this month's release will be listed. The in-game news button on the main menu will direct you directly to the announcement once it is live. Hey there, Terrarians! We have been able to be a lot more involved lately in the final push on 1.4.5 - working hand in hand with Re-Logic on core tickets that impact all platforms for the update. This has been helpful to both teams - and the speed of the update as a whole. We really hope that this will help make for a better update that everyone will thoroughly enjoy. Hello Terrarians! Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games. In this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary, we’ve got information about our estimated timeline, followed by a gameplay video double feature, updated boss cards, development news and a sneak peek at the game’s special-edition Pwnhammers! If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below... TERRARIA: THE BOARD GAME CAMPAIGN LATE PLEDGES --- Grab your pickaxes and let’s dig in! UPDATED TIMELINE TL;DR: We’re updating our estimated shipping date to November 2025. In March, we revised our timeline, updating our estimated shipping date from June to August. We’ve been working as hard as we can to meet that goal, but we’re going to need some more time to ensure that the game is the very best it can be. Why is the game taking longer than expected? From a development point of view, reworking and improving the rulebook, updating the game’s boss mechanisms and preparing for the game’s consistency pass have taken longer than anticipated. Nothing has stalled - we’re making progress every day - but they’re complex, involved processes that move slowly and can’t be rushed without compromising the quality of the game. We’re confident that the time spent on these steps will be reflected in the final product, and if you’re interested in the details, you can read more in the ‘Development news’ section below. Graphic design is deeply intertwined with development; it relies on the preceding steps being completed. We’re always doing as much as we can in parallel, but the design of a component can’t be 100% finalised until we’re sure of its content. For most of the game’s components, that’s not an issue, but for the game’s cards and rulebook, the final text must be locked in for the files to be generated and submitted for printing. The good news is that most of the game’s components (those with little or no text) *have* been finalised, so the cards and rulebook represent the lion’s share of the graphic design work remaining. Terraria: The Board Game contains *lots* of components, the vast majority of which have been approved, but as with all large physical games, there have been a stubborn few that have required multiple rounds of physical prototyping. The King Slime miniature, for example, has gone through many rounds of alterations and improvements – there’s a drawer in the office that looks like a King Slime graveyard, filled with past iterations of the modular design! This miniature was recently approved, but it’s often the things you least expect that cause the most headaches. When you multiply these alterations and improvements across all of the components in the game, then add in the time it takes for samples to be sent and received, it can add considerable time to the process. In addition, our manufacturing partner’s print run estimate (i.e. the length of time it takes from approving all manufacturing files having pallets of games ready for pickup from the factory) was recently adjusted from 5 to 8 weeks, which we’ve needed to take into account. Finally, we’re mindful that tariffs have affected sea freight demand; congestion on shipping routes and at ports can add time to the shipping process, so we’re also taking this possibility into consideration as we make our new timeline forecast. What does this mean for backers? It means that the game is going to take a bit longer to get to backers; we’re updating our estimated shipping date to November 2025. As we mentioned in March’s update, we back many projects ourselves and we know that delays can be frustrating, but we want to reassure you that it’s in pursuit of making the best game possible, and as always, we promise to keep backers in the loop throughout the whole process. If you’ve backed the game, we really, really appreciate your patience; there’s just need one final push needed to get the game over the finish line. --- GAMEPLAY VIDEOS “…I love it… it's Terraria, through and through. We have a pair of topics to cover in spoiler-land this month. First off, we have a handful of new furniture sets coming with the update - providing even more ways for players to customize their abode, arenas, and more. To give you a quick glimpse at what all goes into each of these sets, here is an advance look at the new Hallowed Furniture Set: https://i.imgur.com/ImL2PTl.gif I feel more regal somehow just for looking at it... We may show off a few more of these little additions if time allows - but we hope this at least gives you a sense for one small addition coming with Terraria 1.4.5. In case you missed it, the Palworld side of the Palworld x Terraria crossover launched yesterday. Dubbed "Tide of Terraria", this latest update brings the world of Terraria into the Palworld universe... and much more! Trying our very best to narrow in on that elusive launch window...
Hello everyone! On July 1st the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. As always we are grateful for the massive amount of community participation in developing and testing new features each month. This month's release contains several notable features that mod makers can look forward to, such as loadout support for modded accessory slots new hooks for tile preview rendering. Users can use a new chat command to remove unloaded tiles in worlds that are from mods they are no longer using. Modders and users should also keep an eye out for our monthly Steam announcement on the 1st where a complete listing of bug fixes and API changes for this month's release will be listed. The in-game news button on the main menu will direct you directly to the announcement once it is live.
As you saw in the spoiler above from our Re-Logic friends, new furniture sets are all the rage this season! We felt like we would be remiss if we did not get in on the furniture showcase as well... so enjoy Feywood! Inspired by the fairy logs that dot the landscape of Terraria, this set will help you get back to nature (though it won't help you find any treasure). Beyond that, it is another month of all hands on deck to get Terraria 1.4.5 across the finish line. So, wish us luck as we keep pressing forward! https://i.imgur.com/RquuvlW.gif Hey, Listen! It's Feywood furniture! --- Until next time, Console & Mobile friends - thanks for all of your love and support!
Hello Terrarians!
Chris here, lead developer at Paper Fort Games; I’m back with this month’s Terraria: The Board Game designer diary.
Where did June go? The last few weeks have flown by here at Paper Fort HQ! In this month’s update we’ll be reflecting on a fantastic UKGE, taking you on a guided tour inside the Terraria: The Board Game box, telling you about some iconography improvements and providing the latest development news. If you missed the campaign but would like to get your hands on the game, don’t worry! Late pledges are now available by clicking the link below... TERRARIA: THE BOARD GAME CAMPAIGN LATE PLEDGES --- Grab your pickaxes and let’s dig in! UKGE RECAP
At the very end of May, the Paper Fort Games team travelled down to Birmingham for UK Games Expo. This year, over 40,000 people visited the show, the highest attendance in the history of the convention.
As always, we had a wonderful time meeting Terraria fans, backers, and those attendees who were discovering the game for the first time. The booth was packed for the whole weekend; thank you to everybody who stopped by, played the game, collected a slime balloon or had a go at our beanbag toss - we had a blast!
We had a bigger stand and more demos than ever before, and as a tiny team we needed to draft in some extra pairs of hands! We want to say a huge thank you to all the demo staff who helped us to make this a fun and memorable event for all involved! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/a73e4b2b8da125e47fbe4f17e1b99bc819da6626.jpg In last month’s update, we shared some pictures of pre-production component samples that arrived just in time for UKGE. At the show, colleagues from our manufacturing partner dropped off additional samples that they had kindly brought in their suitcases; after many hundreds of emails back and forth it was lovely to see the team in person again! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/8c8f0bfdf590ebe4422578942c7582867b452b7f.jpg We were running two demos of Terraria: The Board Game all day, every day of the convention; this provided the perfect opportunity to put these new components through their paces. We identified a couple of minor adjustments that needed to be made; these have already been implemented by the manufacturer (just one of the benefits of being able to chat about the components in person!). --- SAMPLE BOX TOUR For those of you who haven’t had a chance to see these new components in person, Chris has recorded a guided tour through our latest sample box, explaining how various components are organised, pointing out small but important changes that are being made and showing off some features that you won’t have seen yet… enjoy! --- GAMEPLAY VIDEO Speaking of videos, we’re currently finalising the logistics of filming our updated gameplay recording. In last month’s update, we asked what type of videos you’d like to see, and based on your comments, it sounds like a full playthrough is on the cards (no pun intended!). We’re very eager to share more of the game with those of you who haven’t had the chance to see it in person, and we’re excited at the possibility of being joined by a well-known Terraria fan… --- BIOME TILE ICONOGRAPHY UPDATE Previously, when blocks could be partially mined, we added a pip system to diggable blocks that indicated how many hits were required. Through playtesting, we’ve identified that these small pips can be hard to see, so they’ve been updated to match the chop icons on trees - a single, larger icon containing the dig value. It’s a small change, but a big improvement in terms of user experience. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/e8c55c5ed290b065fb4aa8ef6ad83e8b782af92f.png --- DEVELOPMENT NEWS So, what’s left to be done from a development point of view? BOSS CARDS As mentioned last month, as well as streamlining Boss behaviours and mechanics, we’ve been trying out a new idea that make a Boss’s spawned ally more than just another enemy token in the world. We’ve been testing a new idea whereby allies power up their Boss via a ‘buff’ card; the idea has been simplified and the boss cards redesigned so that the cards provide an interesting decision for players each turn (which buff do I place an ally token onto?) while also making the result of the buff easily visible in the usual flow of the Boss’s turn. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/3949769/fa5fd157921814bcf1a7f336bc6def26171ddc93.png These are examples of prototype boss cards currently undergoing testing – once they are finalised, art and graphic design will be updated to match the rest of the game, and the final cards will be foiled for that premium boss feel! RULEBOOK The rulebook is one of the most important parts of a board game, but also one of the most difficult to get right. We’re still working on the updated version, ensuring that it is as concise as possible while covering everything that players need to know. It’s a delicate balance; we’re getting close but a bit more work is required before we are happy with it. Rest assured that once it’s ready, we’ll be sharing it with you, along with a summary of what’s changed rules-wise over the past few months. Thanks for bearing with us! --- We'll be Back in July! Next month, we’ll have final samples to show, we’ll be providing details about the shipping and fulfilment process, and we’ll hopefully have video content to show you! Remember; if you missed the campaign but would still like to get your hands on the game, late pledges are now available via the link below: TERRARIA: THE BOARD GAME CAMPAIGN LATE PLEDGES Until next time!
