What's New:
The Directional Orientation test has been visually overhauled to better match the real TBAS/ASTB.
What Are You Talking About?:
I recently receive feedback that the Directional Orientation test in TBAS Study Pro was so visually different from the real TBAS that it was causing users trouble when taking the real thing. Obviously, this was unacceptable. A user was kind enough to link me to a research paper detailing the visual design of the real TBAS (Coyne et al (2020) The Use of non-spatial strategies in the Direction Orientation Task. Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting, Volume 64 Issue 1, p. 802-806). Using the research paper as a reference, I've done my best to recreate the visual appearance of the Directional Orientation test. Now all users can go into the real TBAS/ASTB better prepared!
Adjustments and Bug Fixes Shipped to MacOS:
I finally have access to my development Macbook again, and as a result I'm able to ship all of the previously Windows-only updates to MacOS (v1.3.5b & v1.3.5c). To recap:
Adjustments - In response to popular user feedback:
Terrain ID: The opacity of the Terrain ID test compass buttons can now be adjusted allowing for them to be translucent.
Multitask Test - Dial Subtest: You are now only awarded points when the dial is in motion. You accrue points slowly when the dial is in the Green, and quickly when it is in the Yellow.
Aircraft Tracking Test - Horizontal Tracking Test: The "Pedal" cursor must now overlap with the main body of the aircraft rather than just the wingtip to award points. This will make the horizontal tracking test much more difficult than it was before.
Bug Fixes - Aircraft Tracking Subtests:
Dichotic Listening Subtest (Navy Assessment Mode): Fixed a non-critical bug wherein if a perfect score is achieved, it displays that score as "100/99" rather than the intended "99/99". A perfect score now displays "99/99" as intended.
Emergency Subtest: Fixed a non-critical bug where the displayed "EMG Accuracy" percentage would reset to zero upon missing a single Emergency Procedure. The "EMG Accuracy" percentage should now be functioning as intended.
An issue with the Navy/ASTB "Emergency" Aircraft Tracking submode was introduced in v1.3.5 whereby inputs that cause the Fuel/Power gauge dials to "Snap" to a color (e.g. Yellow or Red) would not properly register in the program. "Knob"-type inputs that gradually move the dial positions up and down instead of via a "Snapping" behavior would still work fine, for the most part.
Additionally, there was an issue whereby the "Reset" Emergency mode indicator on the screen would only flash red for a single frame upon the "Reset" input being pressed, but it now flashes for as long as the "Reset" input is being held, as was originally intended.
Thank You!
Without your support and feedback none of this would be possible. I try to do my best to address and rectify the shortcomings with my software wherever possible, so if you've spotted an issue with the program, please do not hesitate to let me know! (Just make sure no feedback crosses the line into "Test Compromise" territory!)
