First of all, we would like to sincerely apologize to all players who were unable to play the game properly due to the white screen issue. When selecting our video decoding solution, we did not fully consider compatibility across different system environments. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.
After receiving feedback from several affected players and conducting communication and debugging together, our development team has identified two main causes of the white screen problem. Below are temporary manual fixes to help players resume normal gameplay as soon as possible.
We will also include an automatic system check and fix for these issues in the next update patch.
Official retail versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 come with the VP9 video decoder preinstalled. However, some stripped-down, customized, or LTSC versions of Windows lack this component, which can result in the game freezing on a white screen after launch.
Depending on your system setup, please follow one of the two solutions below:
Step 1: Open the Microsoft Store from the Start Menu.
Step 2: Search for “VP9” — you should see “VP9 Video Extensions.”
Step 3: Open the app page and click “Install” to download it for free.
Step 4: Once installation completes and the button changes to “Open,” you can launch the game normally, and the white screen issue should be resolved.
Step 1: Manually download the VP9 Video Extensions installer file using your web browser. Save it to an easily accessible location such as C:\\ (you may delete the file afterward).
Download link: https://such-one.com/downloads/Microsoft.VP9VideoExtensions_1.2.6.0.AppxBundleStep 2: Run Windows PowerShell as Administrator. If a security prompt appears, click “Yes.”
Step 3: In the PowerShell window, type the following command:
Add-AppxPackage C:\\Microsoft.VP9VideoExtensions_1.2.6.0.AppxBundle(Replace the path with where you saved the file if different.)
Step 4: Execute the command and wait for it to complete.
If no red error messages appear, installation was successful.
You can now launch the game normally, and the white screen problem should be resolved.
In rare cases, the white screen issue may occur if your firewall or antivirus software is blocking the game’s network access. To fix this, please add the game to your trusted list or whitelist in your security software.
Since there are many types of antivirus and firewall programs, please refer to your specific software’s help documentation. For example, using the Windows Defender Firewall:
Open Windows Security → Firewall & Network Protection.
Click “Allow an app through firewall.”
Find “Such a Guy” in the list.
Check both Private and Public network boxes.
Click OK to save.
If the issue persists, it may also be caused by a temporary server problem on our side. In that case, please contact us at [email protected] or reach out through the player community — we’ll address the issue as quickly as possible.
If neither of the above solutions resolves your white screen issue, please contact us at [email protected], and we will assist you individually. We sincerely apologize again for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.
Operating System: Windows 10 (version 1607 or later); recommended Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
Processor: Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD equivalent; recommended Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or higher
Memory: 6 GB RAM; recommended 8 GB or higher
Graphics: Intel UHD 630 / AMD Vega 8 (hardware decoding supported)
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 50 GB available space
Note: Installing the game on a high-speed SSD is strongly recommended.
Operating System: Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
Processor: Intel Core i5-9400 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or higher
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1660 / AMD RX 580 or higher discrete GPU
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: Base game + DLC require 150 GB available space
Note: Please install on a high-speed SSD for best performance.
Players can find and claim the 4K DLC for free on the game’s Steam store page. Once installed, the game will automatically run in 4K resolution.
The DLC package size is approximately 104 GB, so please ensure you have sufficient disk space before downloading to avoid any issues.
If you claimed the DLC before your first installation, Steam will first download a 40 GB base package, then automatically download the DLC afterward — the total installation size will be approximately 144 GB.
To confirm whether you’re playing the 4K version, right-click the game in your Steam Library → Properties → DLC tab → check if the DLC is ticked. To play the non-DLC version, simply untick the DLC box.
While playing, please ensure your PC remains connected to the Internet. The client needs to communicate with Steam for account verification, achievements synchronization, and cloud save functions.
However, all game content and videos are fully stored locally — there is no streaming or remote video loading, so the game will not consume significant bandwidth or data traffic.
Install the game on an SSD to improve video loading speed.
If installed on a non-system drive (not C:), ensure your system drive has sufficient free space for caching.
The 4K DLC contains high-bitrate videos; please allow extra time for scene transitions and loading.
If the video freezes when using playback controls (fast-forward, rewind, pause, skip, etc.), try toggling Play/Pause, or wait a few moments — the video will resume. If you prefer not to wait, use the Back button in the top-left corner and re-enter the scene.
To manually restart the game from scratch:
In your Steam Library, right-click Such a Guy → Properties.
Under the General tab, disable Steam Cloud Saves for this title.
Switch to the Installed Files tab → click Browse Local Files to open the installation folder.
Delete all files inside the SavesDir folder.
Restart the game — it will create a new save.
Each save represents a unique journey; please back up old saves before deleting them.
During gameplay, you may occasionally see special animations of the “Penny-Pincher” or “Fun-Seeker” appear in the top-right corner — this indicates you’ve progressed further toward a special ending.
There are many such hidden branches scattered across different story paths. We suggest exploring most major branches before trying to unlock these two achievements — it becomes easier once you’ve experienced more of the story.
Note: To reach these special endings, the affection levels of the six female characters must not be too high; otherwise, you’ll trigger their normal endings instead.
Under normal conditions, most scenes allow you to return to the flowchart via the top-left icon. However, a few scenes temporarily disable this icon — this is intentional and not a bug.
When players jump freely between scenes using the flowchart, the system automatically records the play path to ensure affection, achievements, and flags are correctly tracked. To prevent data corruption or logic errors, a few special scenes temporarily restrict returning to the flowchart.
Such a Guy’s data architecture was built completely from scratch. We acknowledge some imperfections and deeply appreciate your understanding and support. Thank you to everyone who purchased the game and provided feedback!
We’ve received reports from some players encountering a white screen after the game starts. We sincerely apologize for this issue. Our development team is actively investigating and working on a fix. The root cause has not yet been fully identified.
Please try the following troubleshooting steps. You can also reach us at
or through your community admin with details and results.
Press Win + R → type winver → Check your Version and Build Number.
Minimum requirement: Windows 10 version 1607 (Build ≥ 14393).
If your system is older, please update it via Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update → Check for updates.
The game relies on dedicated video decoders. Missing or conflicting codecs are the most common cause of the white screen issue. Try reinstalling or repairing the following components:
Install Media Feature Pack for Windows (for N editions): Microsoft Support Page
Install VP9 Video Extensions (from Microsoft Store): Microsoft Store Link (Recommended)
Install or Update LAV Filters Decoder :
① Download the latest stable version (e.g., LAVFilters-0.80-Installer.exe) from lav-filters.en.lo4d.com/windows
② During installation, ensure “LAV Video”, “LAV Audio”, and “LAV Splitter” are checked (they are by default), then restart your PC after installation.
Ensure your system drive (usually C:) has at least 10 GB of free space.
Please make sure that the temporary folder path contains only English letters, numbers, or standard ASCII symbols.
Avoid using Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or other non-English characters in the folder path, as they may cause video decoding issues.
① The full path of the temporary folder (copied from the address bar opened in Step 1). ② The file size of any playable video on your desktop (Right-click → Properties → Size). ③ The game log file (Player.log), located in Steam → Right-click game → Properties → Local Files → Browse → “Logs” folder.

Players take on the role of Zane Zheng, a young man who leaves his city job in search of meaning and starts a new life with two close friends running a seaside guesthouse. Along the way, he meets six unique women, each bringing warmth, emotion, and choices that shape the story’s ending.
Such a Guy creates a youthful, emotionally rich world filled with choices and warmth. Set in a vibrant coastal town, the story follows Zane as he begins his first venture with his friends, managing a small guesthouse by the sea.
This isn’t just a romance simulation — it’s a sincere exploration of how young people search for meaning and connection in modern life. Each of the six heroines has a distinct personality, values, and life philosophies. Through your decisions and interactions, everyday moments can evolve into extraordinary stories, creating genuine emotional resonance and a healing sense of companionship.
Beyond traditional FMV storytelling, Such a Guy features a map navigation system, mini-games, hidden easter eggs, special endings, achievements, and a collection system. These mechanics transform the experience from a simple visual novel into a “life simulator” that grows alongside the player.
The development team reveals that the game includes over 20 unique endings and hundreds of choices — whether you seek romance, friendship, or self-discovery, every player will find their own story.
Created over the course of 18 months, the game features nearly 1,000 minutes of 4K live-action footage, over 700 decision points, and more than 20 endings to ensure a deeply immersive experience. Featuring 20 licensed songs and over 100 original music tracks, combined with cinematic production quality, Such a Guy aims to deliver genuine warmth and emotional healing for every player.
“We’re a creative team that believes in warmth and sincerity. Our goal is to blend authentic emotions with interactive experiences — crafting games that let players truly feel. Localization quality will continue to be optimized after launch.
Hello everyone! We are SUCH ONE STUDIO, a game development team dedicated to creating immersive FMV (Full Motion Video) experiences. Today, we’d like to share some of our thoughts on level design in romance-oriented FMV games.
In most FMV romance titles, level design tends to be overlooked. Understandably, the spotlight usually shines on the quality of the script, the cinematic visuals, and the charm and acting of the cast. As for gameplay, it’s often reduced to a simple “click-through” experience, rarely leaving much room for surprise.
However, we believe level design still plays a unique and irreplaceable role in FMV games. It represents the “game” aspect of the hybrid experience—serving as a bridge that allows players to engage more deeply with the story and emotionally connect with the filmic component. When done well, it greatly enhances immersion.
Example 1: Finding Her in the Fitting Room
Imagine this: the girl you like takes you shopping. She steps into a fitting room to try on an outfit you picked out for her, leaving her phone in your care. Suddenly, her phone rings. Faced with a row of identical fitting rooms, can you recall the subtle clues from earlier and identify which one she’s in?
To make this small challenge feel natural rather than forced, the story would have already set it up, with earlier dialogue about her clothing preferences and multiple shots highlighting her shoes. If observant players notice these details and pick the correct fitting room, they’ll be rewarded with her surprised praise and an increase in affection points.
That’s the magic of meaningful interaction: when players realize that paying attention brings positive feedback, the girl no longer feels like a pre-recorded character—she becomes a living person, with her own tastes, waiting to be noticed and responding warmly to your attention.
Example 2: Guessing Her Childhood Toys
Now picture another moment: on a table sit six childhood toys. The girl challenges you to guess which three she actually played with when she was little. Guess correctly, and she’ll reward you.
At first, it seems impossible—how could you know? But players who have truly paid attention will remember the little things she’s mentioned: her approximate age, her well-off upbringing, her competitive streak when playing with boys… Putting those clues together paints a vivid picture of her personality and background.
Through this small but thoughtful challenge, players actively piece together fragmented memories, forming a richer and more three-dimensional impression of the girl.
Example 3: Saving the Seaside Market
Level design in romance FMV games isn’t just about showcasing the girl—it can also heighten the stakes or encourage replayability of key storylines.
In one chapter, the protagonist stakes his career success on a live-streamed seaside market event. Each girl helps manage a different section of the market, but soon faces unique problems that require the player’s help.
To avoid monotony, this section includes diverse gameplay types: investigation puzzles, logic reasoning, dialogue mazes, and QTE sequences. The results of each event directly affect the market’s overall popularity online.
While exploring possible paths to success, players may encounter a lonely boy wandering the beach—or a lost girl searching for someone. If players handle events in a certain sequence, they can unlock a hidden storyline where their actions indirectly reunite the two children. The heartwarming scene goes viral online, boosting the market’s success and delivering emotional payoff.
(This scene is a small tribute to To the Moon, a game beloved by both our core team and our cast.)
None of these examples is groundbreaking in the long history of game design. But FMV games as a genre are still young, and they can draw inspiration from many well-established forms of gameplay. Classic design concepts, when combined with cinematic storytelling, can spark new and unexpected magic.
We hope more players will come to appreciate FMV games and embrace this unique medium. As for us, we’ll keep experimenting with new types of level design—striving to make FMV games more engaging, emotional, and fun to play.
And before we go, a little self-promotion: Our romance FMV “Such a Guy (有这么一个家伙)” will be released on Steam on October 15. We sincerely hope it brings you a warm and delightful journey.
Note: The following is a translated version, not the original letter. Thank you for your understanding.
Hi, everyone, dear friends,
My name is Han Chao. I’m the head of this project company and also one of the producers of this game. My partner and fellow producer, Ziyang, has been busy running tests lately, so I’ll take this opportunity to represent the two of us and all our teammates in quietly sharing some heartfelt words with you, the supporters of this project.
Back in 2021, I stumbled into the game industry by chance. When I was preparing to start the company’s first interactive FMV project, I was fortunate enough to discover Ziyang’s script studio, Just Right Studio. At that time, I was “the client” and he was “the contractor.” Fast forward to 2025: the project we worked on launched successfully, receiving good reviews from players and making waves in the market. Ironically, for us, things weren’t so bright. Ziyang’s team disbanded soon after, and as for me, I was asked to leave my company by the investors six months before launch, with the reason being “the product wasn’t good enough, it was bound to fail.” Our entrepreneurial journey ended there. Those were gloomy, heavy times for both of us.
Now, as I write this letter, our new project hasn’t launched yet. But this time, Ziyang and I are no longer “client” and “contractor.” We stand shoulder-to-shoulder as co-creators, producers, and publishers. Together with our brothers-in-arms, we’ve built this project from the ground up. I can feel the solidity, the determination, and the weight of anticipation. Of course, there have been moments of helplessness, confusion, self-doubt, and pressure. It’s messy, but it’s real.
Looking back, Such a Guy has taken 17 months to create. Along the way, the team had disputes over content, clashes over gameplay implementation, anxieties about funding, and struggles with management. Every judgment, every insistence, every person who stayed, every regret we carried—some things left, others remain forever. There’s no “right or wrong,” no “should or shouldn’t,” only the past and the present. And we’ve accepted it all, carrying forward with our painstaking creativity, joyful living, and determined progress. I think all of this comes from our deep love for creating fun, lively content and from our loyalty to the players who support us. We don’t want to let ourselves down, and we certainly don’t want to disappoint you.
I’ve seen comments saying the name Such a Guy sounds odd. But we like it, precisely because it’s odd. To us, it feels “edgy and distinctive,” almost like a codename any player could wear, and also like the beginning of a story—something that makes you pause and follow along. Our theme song even has these lyrics:
There is such a guy, Kind, honest, with a touch of humor. There is such a guy, Brave, bright, chasing happiness. There is such a guy, Loving mountains, waters, and every corner. There is such a guy, Enchanted by life’s everyday warmth. There is such a guy, He is you, and he is me.
Maybe after reading these lyrics, you’ll better understand why our project is called Such a Guy, and why this letter is titled A Letter to All of You. You’ll also forgive me for calling you “guys” at the start—it really is a game we’re making for you, and we hope each of you finds your own joy and memories in it.
Interestingly, that song was actually created by a fan from my previous project. By chance I learned he was a musician, and we decided to collaborate. Through this song, our bond was preserved, and I thought that was beautiful. His name is Ma Rui, and I’d like to thank him here too. I hope, just like our protagonist, he continues to live bravely, brightly, and joyfully.
As for this new project, the theme remains realistic, urban life, but it brought many challenges. We had to avoid reusing characters and scenes from our previous work, and aimed to keep emotions closer to real life rather than “sci-fi.” Our creative philosophy has been “seeking change within reality,” and our internal measure has been “delicate yet joyful.” Family and brotherhood are treated with more depth, no longer just “plot tools.” The emotional arcs are richer, and we’ve made real progress. In gameplay, we also added and refined a lot: more complex choices, mini-games, special endings, hidden endings, achievements, and collectibles.
As for evaluation, I’ll happily leave that to you, our players. I trust your taste and your kindness. We’ve put in the effort, and we ask for your support. The game is full of Easter eggs and hidden touches we left for you to discover. This time, we really pushed ourselves hard, hoping to bring you surprises—and fewer regrets for ourselves.
We’ve been gradually releasing materials recently, and I’ve read every single comment. Thank you sincerely for your support and recognition—it means the world to us. Although our numbers look modest, we’re not strong at marketing, so we humbly ask for your continued help. This is our first entrepreneurial project. If we manage to survive this year, we’ll reinvest all returns into making more warm and fun games for you, carrying forward this joy and this bond, never to part ways.
Once again, truly, truly, thank you to everyone who has supported and helped us. Without you, there would be no us. We look forward to meeting you soon with the official release of Such a Guy. Love you all!
Sincerely, Han Chao & All Members of SUCH ONE STUDIO
