Time for the new content you’ve all been waiting for: the Ocean Update is here!
This expansion features 2 new ocean areas, offering plenty more opportunities for your Pink Blob to explore and evolve. Simply walk off the beach and you’ll find a colorful yet bizarre world in the depths. Just make sure to equip aquatic body parts beforehand or you’ll drown!
Thankfully, the game already comes with several body parts that let you breathe underwater. And once you are in the new areas, you can start picking up even more aquatic body parts of our new aquatic creatures: jellyfish, squids, sharks, and more! Time for some evolution experiments!
A major addition in this patch is our new 3D underground movement. In the ocean area, you can move in all directions and truly explore the waters from every angle. Pay attention to the speed boosts around the new areas, and don’t forget we have new parts to help you swim more efficiently.
At the same time, new activities and secrets with plenty of rewards are waiting for you. Explore every nook and cranny to discover what we have prepared for your evolution!
Speaking of secrets, a mysterious danger is lurking in the depths…
Alongside the Ocean Update, Strange Seed is now on a historical discount! For those who have been thinking about grabbing our game, now is the perfect time! Hope you all enjoy swimming with the new evolutions, and if you like Strange Seed, don't forget to leave us a review! We'd really appreciate it!

The Ocean Expansion is almost here! In this dev blog, we have a new round of early preview to the upcoming area, so let’s dive in and check out what’s coming to Strange Seed soon!
The main highlight of the new area will be our brand-new 3D movement system. Unlike walking and flying, where you can only move laterally, your creature will be able to swim in all directions underwater. Be ready to explore the ocean from every angle!
(And also be ready to dodge attacks from every direction)
You might have already seen a few of our new creatures in our previous blog post. And here’s another sneak peek!
The upcoming expansion will feature the tentacle-y jellyfish and squids, the deadly sharks and manta rays, as well as the adorable seahorses.
This also means new body parts will be available for your Pink Blob to play with. And before you ask, yes, there will be new boss fights for you to challenge in the new area. Are you ready for some aquatic combat action?
The new content is right around the corner, and we can't wait to deliver it to your hands (or claws/fins/tentacles/wings). Join our Discord to chat with fellow Seedlings and share your thoughts on our game! And don't forget to follow our socials to stay updated on more Strange Seed news!
Summer is fast approaching and our Pink Blob is learning how to swim! We’ve been focusing on the underwater area over the last few months and this new map is shaping up to be a colorful wonderland (or wonder-sea?) for you to explore! This month, we have a few more screenshots of our WIP content to share. Ready for another early look at what’s coming this summer?
Look at the Jellyfish!
This new area will be occupied by unique flora and fauna, with some familiar faces showing up as well. There will be several new species for you to defeat, and of course they drop new body parts that will grant you new powers!
A romantic date under the sea
As you can see from our pictures, some of these creatures aren't merely walking on the ground or flying in the sky; they are floating and swimming through the water. We are working to introduce a swimming mechanic to this new area, and we're excited to show you how it works when we get closer to the update!
Dunnn dun… duunnnn dun… duuunnnnn dun dun dun dun
It's been a while since we last shared all the weird creature designs conjured by our Discord community. So let us have a look at what they've been up to this year!
According to its creator Gear, this is a fast creature that just so happened to look like a missile. This streamlined body shape sure helps lower air resistance!.
A tanky boss-killer/arena fighter by Wafflemoose. Love how gentlemanly it looks, with the top hat and reading glass, contrasting with the powerful dragon body.
Another powerful dragon monster, though this one looks a bit... squishy? An intriguing design by Dragon Claw!
That's all we have for this month. What do you think about the new area (or at least, what you can see so far)? We are really curious on your thoughts so feel free to leave a comment here or join our Discord to talk about all things Strange Seed! And don't forget to follow our socials for more news!
Spring is a season of growth, and with it, comes a new patch to help our pink blob evolve. This update includes new language support (the pink blob figured out how to speak Italian and Polish) and fixes to several issues we logged from your feedback (thanks for the reports everyone!). You can find the full patch notes at the bottom of this post.
Also, just want to take this chance to say a big thank you to all the adventurous souls who joined us on this evolutionary journey about experimenting with all kinds of body parts.
If you enjoy playing Strange Seed, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could take a few seconds to leave us a review on Steam. It really helps with Strange Seed’s exposure on the platform, especially during the ongoing Spring Sale, and let us spread the joy of eating and evolving to more gamers around the world!
As you may be aware, we are currently working on a new under water area as per the community vote result, and oh boy do we have some good news! We’re making good progress with the new content and are now looking to schedule the expansion by June/July.
Here’s a sneak peek at one of the new creatures coming to the waters of Strange Seed:
What do you think of this new look of Strange Seed? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments or join our discord! Also, be sure to follow us on our socials! We’ll be posting more news and development progress in the weeks to come!

Hey everyone! Christmas is near and the Steam Winter Sale is here, with Strange Seed now 20% off. We are also partnering up with Horticular in the Slug Disco Colourful Creature Bundle. If you haven’t already grabbed our game, or if you’re thinking of sending the pink blob out as a present, this is the time!
Now, before we wrap up for the holidays, we have some wonderful news to share:
To start off, we are releasing a Supporter Pack with 7 new skins, 5 new accessories and 2 new parts to help you evolve in style. These are completely optional and you don’t need them to play the game. Still, we’d really appreciate it if you’d like to grab some new toys for the holidays and support us!
Evolve with style :)
At the same time, we are adding a series of free updates to upgrade your evolution experience in the base game:
No more getting lost in the wild! This is a new map tool available from the start of the game. You can open it to check your location in an area and help search for secrets. It has icons for major points of interest (bosses, shrines, nests, FAC outposts); the icons only turn on after you've find them in person.
Want a rematch? You can now revive every boss to fight them again. There won’t be new rewards or anything, but seems like many of you are very eager to go for round 2 just to try out new creature builds.
If you need more biomass and crystals, the Farming Points are where you go. You can farm resources from them, with one giant brain in Volcano and a crystal pillar in the Crystal Cave.
Stamina Regen: Continuously regenerates stamina even if you're running/flying. Perhaps some of you might figure out how to sprint towards infinity with this tech.
Damage Reduction: Unlike Defense that blocks a flat number of damage, Damage Reduction absorbs a percentage of the incoming damage
Bigger parts mean bigger attacks! When you scale up a part that has an attack skill, the attack will also scale up in size. Do beware that it is not a 1:1 change though, and the attack area only increases by a certain amount.
Some of the size point bonuses felt unimpactful while others were too powerful. That’s why we've changed them around to make the size scaling more balanced.
Hope you enjoy these changes. Once again, thank you for playing Strange Seed and making 2025 such an awesome year for us. We could not have asked for a more passionate and creative community to support our launch and making it as successful as it is.
With the community vote concluded, we are starting to work on the next steps of Strange Seed. Please look forward to what we have in store and in the meantime, follow us on Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and join our Discord to keep an eye on the latest updates! Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year! (And don't forget to eat plenty of food like our little pink blob!)
Hey everyone! Thanks to all of you who picked up Strange Seed in its first 4 weeks on Steam. You are all AMAZING and I'm incredibly happy that over 12,000 people have now played the full game! We want to start working on a "big" update to the game; something that expands the amount of playable content and adds more hours of enjoyment.
We have a list of ideas that are achievable for our team, but we can only start with one. So we want to hear what you think that one idea should be! Here they are:
New Game + mode with challenges -- Replay the main campaign with a challenge! Challenges could include revised enemy layouts, upgraded bosses, restrictions on equipped parts, and a mystery "forced evolution" mode.
The Testing Arena -- Who can reach the highest damage, largest size, fastest speed, and more? The Testing Arena is a new post-game area where you break evolution's limits. A very light multiplayer feature is included, with the ability to see others' high scores.
Scenarios -- A similar idea to the Testing Arena, but focused on challenges based on specific build limitations, such as best bipedal creature, lightweights only, climbing challenges, or becoming a niche genetic freak like a proto-giraffe.
The Ocean -- The most requested new area is an underwater area. We're terrified of this feature! But if everyone insists, we'll do our best. And honestly, who doesn't want to be a shark? We do too. This would be a post-game area following the final boss.
Creature Stage... ish -- An open-world area where you can see if your species is fit for survival! This is the least-defined feature in our minds; it could be an Iron Man challenge, or more of a chill play area. Let us know what you think!
Feel free to comment with your preference here on Steam, or on Discord for longer discussions.
Whichever expansion idea is picked, we don't plan on going silent while we work on it. Here are some quality of life features and fixes that are coming up sooner (before Christmas): - Location maps and world map - Biomass and Crystal farming locations for end-game players - New skills to support defensive tank and flyer / runner gameplay - Updating what + / - Scale Point options do - One or more quests for new parts - Third round bugfixes for skins not saving correctly - Reviving bosses for a rematch - One more round of fixes to prevent any memory leaks / degraded performance in long play sessions - Freeze player animations during accessory placement (already done in 1.11) There are a few other QoL features we're trying to figure out, so I won't promise they'll be ready yet. But that group includes improvements to ranged attack and block; a new recombination machine option; and improving the terrain physics.
I really enjoyed these creatures shared in the Discord. Hope you like them too!

- Fixed Hargraves bugging out during his second phase conversion

- Ancient Chameleon: fixed buggy attack, gave a more unique attack pattern, reduced number of minions and their hp / attack strength

- Butterfly and mantis shrimp: another small nerf
- Increased distance that larger meat can be eaten from
- Fixed some ground in Crystal Cave not displaying attack indicators
- Fixed the historian's addition abilities (but really, did you expect a historian to do math?)
By the way, we've slowed down our build frequency as we work on some larger updates. More on that soon!
Our creature evolution game has evolved into its final form! Thank you so much to everyone joining us on this journey and we really appreciate every single wishlist, share, demo download and feedback from you. Let's look at what's in full game of Strange Seed:

New maps mean new NPCs! Especially in the brand new town area, where you can find several NPCs offering a variety of challenges for you to complete. And don’t forget to explore every nook and cranny for hidden puzzles!
(🐸: What's a keypad???)

Without further ado, we're pleased to announce that full version of Strange Seed will be releasing Wednesday November 5th - we expect it to launch around 3pm BST!
To celebrate we've prepared a brand new trailer which shows off new parts and environments which will be coming to the full game.
The full game will feature:
10 semi-open world zones set in a variety of biomes.
40 full creatures for you to consume and unlock. (With 7 part slots this amounts to over 10 million unique combinations!)
Hidden zones, challenges and special parts to further customise your creature.
Unique boss fights for you to overcome - either with your combat prowess or through cheesing (you have access to a lot of parts after all)
If you haven't already, remember you can wishlist Strange Seed here:
I hope everyone had a great summer! These past few months have been incredibly for us with game developement. With the new areas coming together nicely, we figured this monthly round-up is a good time to give everyone an early preview!
ICYMI, last month we’ve shared some blurred teasers of our new maps, and this time we are excited to show them in full HD. (We’d have loved to do it in 4K but alas, upload size limit…)
The Brazen Plains is a vast open area surrounded by mountains. Numerous creatures roam the plains, and the surrounding mountains have all the nooks and crannies (and a MASSIVE lake) for you to explore.
The Volcano is a blazing inferno filled with environmental hazards and dangerous creatures. Mind your steps, and don't step on the lava!
Here’s another new area not included in last month’s screenshots – the Scrapshire Village. Populated by quirky characters (you might spot some speech bubbles in the backdrop), you can take on many fun challenges for bountiful rewards!
Aside from the maps, we’ve been working on new body parts for the full game. Below is a screenshot of some of them combined on a single creature. What creatures do you think they belong to? Take a guess, and we’ll talk about them in the next monthly blog!
Before we go, let's check out what bizarre life forms our community made in the last month. We’ve received a number of awesome submissions from our Discord member Deathclawstudios. Here are some of their cool designs!
This dragonfly has some impressive stats: over 200 stamina! That looks more than enough to soar across any map with ease!
They also recreated other IRL animals like a vulture and a fly with tools available in the demo. Look at the vulture spreading its massive wings!
While this is all for this blog post, we'll be sharing more about the full game in the upcoming round-ups! Be sure to follow us on our socials and check back in next month!
