Final Roadmap Update Is Live!

Hello Wanderers! 😺

It took us a bit more time than expected, just over a month to be exact😅, but here it is - the latest update for Songs of Rats and our final free update to the game! And it's a FAT one 🐀, as it brings not two (as announced initially), but THREE new campaigns! We hope this will sweeten the delay a little bit.

We've been listening to your feedback carefully, and with these campaigns, we aimed to give you more choices and more freedom in how you shape your path and story in The Wreckage!

🧑‍💻 So here are all the tasty details! 👍

CAMPAIGN #3 - The Way Is The Most Important

In this new campaign, there's no set path and no clear goal - just you, a map of interconnected locations, and the freedom to go wherever you want. Each spot leads to 2–3 others, letting you carve your own route through the world.

Along the way, you’ll be able to interact with the environment, meet other travelers, and hear rumors, some of which may point you toward something bigger. But don’t expect the game to spell it out.

Behind the scenes, your choices are quietly tracked. Depending on what you’ve done, certain locations may trigger hidden endings instead of the usual scenes. For example:

Visit 10 different locations before reaching the Keykeeper’s Den? You might find something waiting.
Complete three cult initiations? A spiritual path could open.
Earn the respect of key factions? The Council might call on you.

You won’t see progress bars or quest markers — just consequences. What you find at the end depends entirely on how you’ve played.

CAMPAIGN #4 - After The Silence

This campaign introduces a new core mechanic: the Clan Panel. As you explore and scavenge, you’ll collect scrap - and instead of hoarding it, you’ll invest it directly into your clan’s growth.

You can upgrade three key traits: Body, Mind, and Spirit. Each point you unlock makes the next one more expensive, so you’ll need to choose your path carefully. Once you’ve maxed out every trait available, the final scene triggers - but what happens next depends entirely on how you developed your clan.

There are four possible endings, based on your strongest stat:

Body-dominant
Spirit-dominant
Mind-dominant
Balanced

There’s no right or wrong answer - just the story of the clan you chose to build.

CAMPAIGN #5 - Trial Time

You’ve waited your whole life for this moment - just like everyone else in your group. Now, finally, your trial has come.

The Council has spoken: before you can become a caravanner, before you’re trusted with trade routes and responsibility, you must bring back something of value, something ancient, something real.

If you succeed, there's a chance you'll be allowed to travel The Wreckage not alone, but alongside the people who matter most, your friends: Aron, Freya, and Hogor. You've trained with them, fought beside them, and dreamed of this moment together.

In this campaign your choices will determine whether you earn your place - and whether you and your friends live to see the road ahead.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

Of course that's not all! We’ve also fixed a few pesky bugs 🐛 here and there and added some new achievements you can unlock by completing the latest campaigns🏆. We really hope you’ll enjoy all the new content - it brings many more hours of gameplay, and we can't wait to hear your thoughts on these new experiences!

As you know, according to our Roadmap, we were supposed to send out the final update today, featuring two new scenarios. Unfortunately, this won’t happen just yet, as the past few weeks have been extremely busy for us. We sincerely apologize for the delay and take full responsibility. However... there's also good news!

The update is coming, and we hope to release it as soon as possible. In fact, two extra campaigns are already done and currently being translated. The main reason for the delay is... a third campaign we’ve decided to add to the game!

So yes — instead of two extra campaigns, you'll be getting three! 🎉

Of course, this means we’ll need a little more time (hopefully around two weeks), as we still need to thoroughly test everything. We’ll let you know as soon as the update is ready.

We are happy to inform you that the third Roadmap update is finally here, and it brings a much bigger feature than the two previous ones: a Lorebook that lets you dive deeper into the world of The Wreckage! It seems it’s becoming a small tradition that the updates come with a one-day delay, but we hope you will grant us absolution 😅.

🐀 The next Roadmap Update is coming in June, and it’s the biggest one yet - introducing major content to the game: two new campaigns, both bringing a fresh experience to the table. Second Roadmap Update Is Here!

The time has come for the second update in our Roadmap! It's arriving with a one-day delay, and we're sorry about that. We discovered a small issue at the last minute, so we decided to fix it to make sure you get a stable version.

🐀 The biggest new feature in this update is, of course, gamepad support! If you prefer playing Songs of Rats with a controller, you should now be able to do so without any issues. Just a heads-up - this is the first iteration of the feature. We’re happy to inform you that, as promised in our latest post, the first update planned in our roadmap for Songs of Rats' further development has dropped on Steam!

🐀 It’s a small one, but a much-needed update, as it improves the ending of the first campaign. New version available + what to expect in the future!

We are 9 days after the release, and it has been a busy time for us. But as Britney sang in her song, we were born to make you happy, so we wanted to implement some of your requests! :D

First, a huge thank you to all those who checked out our game, and a big hug to everyone who left us a positive review - this really helps a lot! It's tough for a small dev like us to get exposure on Steam, and positive ratings truly make a difference. Removed Master Volume in Settings. Instead, there are now two sliders: one for music volume and one for sound effects.✅
You can now choose whether to heal yourself using food or first aid kits (if available). Just click on the food or first aid kit icon below the healing button to select which resource you prefer to use.✅
The Artbook (The Art of the Wreckage) has been expanded with almost 20 extra pages, offering more insight into the game's creation, including a step-by-step breakdown of the graphics development process.✅
Fixed typos and text errors.✅
Fixed event display issues.✅
Fixed additional English translation errors in the EBOOK.✅
Various small bug fixes.✅

We haven’t prepared a roadmap per se, but as stated above, we want to bring more content to the game. We're a small team, so every change takes a bit of time, especially since each new version needs proper testing. That’s why we don’t want to set fixed dates in stone. Post-Launch Update: Fixes, Tweaks, and What's Next

It’s been a full day since the launch of Songs of Rats, and we are absolutely thrilled by how active and engaged the community is! Seeing so many of you exploring The Wreckage, sharing feedback, and diving into the world we created means a lot! 🛠️All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy 🤪 - but jokes aside, it's been a busy day!

We’ve been hard at work addressing all reported feedback and bugs (pesky little things!) as quickly as possible. Because of this, we pushed out multiple updates throughout the day, tackling (hopefully) all major and critical issues. We now believe that the current version is perfectly stable and shouldn’t have any game-breaking blockers! 🧐

That being said, here’s what we’ve fixed and improved:

Adjusted the way weapons and armor take damage + balance tweaks.
Rebalanced critical hit and miss chances in combat.
Improved the localization system.
Fixed typos and text errors.
Enhanced text sound effects.
Fixed event display issues.
Resolved bugs that blocked gameplay after events.
Fixed the ending for Sandbox mode (100-day run).
Achievements fixes.
Improved Steam Deck support.
Minor text adjustments.
Fixed English translation errors in the EBOOK.
Removed duplicate text from one of the short stories in the EBOOK.
Minor tweaks to the Artbook.
Various small bug fixes.

What’s Next? 🚀

If nothing major pops up in the next few days, we’ll begin implementing community-requested features! Some of the top suggestions we’re considering include: ✅ The ability to switch between healing with first aid kits or food. ✅ Additional sound settings. ✅ And more tweaks based on your feedback!

Since it's an indie project, we didn't want to price it high, so we thought it might be a better idea to offer optional DLCs. That way, if someone loves the game, they can buy additional events, scenarios, and more. But then we felt that it wouldn’t be fair to take content from the main game or charge extra for the second campaign. That’s why the "Searching For Balance" scenario and all the events we've prepared will be available from day one in the full version! Instead, if you want to support us, you can buy optional DLCs that won’t affect your gameplay experience in any way!🪐 Here’s what the optional DLCs will include:

We've got some great news to share today! But first of all, thank you so much to everyone who participated in our playtest. Your feedback was incredibly valuable, we have closely and attentively watched all the videos and read all the comments and blogs. This has allowed us to introduce various improvements in game events, balancing, and other areas. So once again, thank you so much for participating and giving us the chance to make Songs of Rats a much better experience!

It features many changes based on the feedback we've gathered. We believe the difference is significant, so if you participated in the playtests, you might want to check it out and see the progress. We hope you’ve entered the new year on a positive note, and we wish you an amazing 2025! Of course, we hope it will be even better thanks to the launch of Songs of Rats, which, just as a reminder, is scheduled for March 10, 2025 - not much time left until the big premiere! :)

As we approach the launch, we want to share a demo version with the community during one of the upcoming Steam festivals. Since we’re a very small team, it’s challenging to conduct a full Q&A before launching the demo and then the full game. So, we thought a good approach would be to hold a public Playtest of Songs of Rats. And that’s exactly what we’re excited to announce:

The official public Playtest for the game is now live!

It would mean the world to us if you could check out the game in its current state and share your feedback in the comments. Please note, however, that the Playtest version has some limitations:

This version includes all the gameplay mechanics and modes that will appear in the full game, but the story length and sandbox mode are limited.
A save system is not yet available.
The full version will also include additional languages and gamepad support.
We are also working on an additional story mode featuring an extra scenario.

Access will be granted to all players who have submitted an application. To do this, simply go to the game's page on Steam and click the green "Request Access" button. You'll immediately be able to start downloading the game and join the ongoing playtest!:) Also a few gameplay tips:

The playtest will run at least until the end of next week, January 19th! After that, we plan to take it down and focus on preparing the playable demo for the upcoming Steam Festival.

We’re thrilled to share the second devlog for Songs of Rats! It’s incredible to see how the community around the game growing - it makes us really motivated and excited! These days, it’s no easy feat to gain exposure on Steam or in the press, with so many amazing games launching every month. That’s why we deeply appreciate your support and are committed to delivering you an unforgettable experience!

All core mechanics are in place, the main scenario is complete, and we’ve implemented both the introduction and a sandbox mode, where you can choose the length of your journey through the Wreckage. Currently, we’re working on Steam Deck and Linux support, implementing a save system, adding translations, expanding content, and addressing minor details. With all of this progress, we’re confident that the release candidate is just around the corner. In fact, we’re delighted to share some fantastic news: Songs of Rats is scheduled to debut on Steam on March 10, 2025! We’ve also made a playtest version available to members of the press and select influencers. We’re looking forward to seeing early gameplay videos on YouTube, Twitch, and other social platforms soon.

Exploring the Wreckage

In this devlog, we’d like to continue delving into the Wreckage. Last time, we shared insights into the creation of this unique universe. Today, let’s take a closer look at some of the figures you’ll encounter during your journey. Keep in mind: only a few will be friendly and helpful - most will be adversaries. The majority of the Wreckage’s inhabitants are descendants of the surviving crew members of ships and stations. Some simply struggle to survive in this harsh, unforgiving reality. Others, however, see desperation as an opportunity, and they won’t hesitate to kill, steal, or manipulate you to bend to their will. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45266853/148cb780edd40105bfdb4ef6f7f4ac2660d09ae2.jpg A small but immensely powerful and influential group within the Wreckage consists of posthuman beings. These are the remnants of advanced civilizations, born from humanity’s pursuit of immortality and transcendence. Posthumans come in many forms: advanced, self-aware machines; human minds uploaded into computer systems; or individuals subjected to extreme biological and cybernetic modifications who retain their intellectual potential. To most of the Wreckage’s inhabitants, posthumans are myths or legends - ghostly figures whispered about in fear or reverence, and in some cases, worshipped as gods. The Wreckage is also home to a variety of beings that are only distantly related to humans, or not human at all. Along your journey, you’ll encounter robots and other machines powered by advanced AI. While some of these may pose a threat, others could prove to be invaluable allies. Lastly, you’ll find potential companions - who may join you and provide vital support on your journey.

What is the Wreckage?

Simply put, the Wreckage is a colossal cluster of destroyed ships and space stations suspended in the void. These shattered vessels have collided and fused into a massive, tangled structure. Thanks to advanced self-repair technologies, many of these wrecks have sealed their interiors, making large portions of this weird world habitable despite the danger. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45266853/3d87d330aec0b59efa55cce5aacaa99e9001445d.gif Within this labyrinth of corridors, rooms, halls, and hangars, you’ll find fragments of diverse civilizations and cultures. These remnants range from wild hydroponics gardens to abandoned laboratories, armories, factories, and even derelict entertainment centers. This variety reflects the diverse origins of the ships and stations that now form the Wreckage. The origins of the Wreckage are shrouded in mystery. Its creation has become the stuff of legends, with multiple, conflicting myths. However, they share a common thread: Hundreds of years ago, a monumental space battle unfolded in the orbit of a forgotten gas giant. Many believe this was the climactic final act of the galaxy’s greatest conflict, the so-called "Final War". The identities of the warring factions and the causes of the war have been lost to time, but the sheer scale of the battle remains undisputed. The clash involved everything from small ships to massive vessels and space stations. A mysterious weapon was deployed, triggering the catastrophic formation of the Wreckage as it exists today. While its exact nature is unknown, whispers speak of the "Heart of the Wreckage", a hidden point that holds the chaotic structure together, preventing it from collapsing into ruin. Will you dare to venture into this perilous world?
