Dear horror fans, To improve your gaming experience while discovering the hidden secrets of this survival horror adventure, we are removing Asus Aura support from Song of Horror since its integration was causing some issues that could prevent players from enjoying the game to the fullest. However, as we are aware that some of you may want to still experience this feature on your computers, we will enable a dedicated branch with the Asus Aura version for you. You just need to follow the steps below to access this branch:

Go to your Steam Library

Right Click on Song of Horror

Select Properties

Select Betas

From the dropdown menu, select: "soh-v1.24_aura_enabled"

As this is an open Beta there should not be any password prompt Please note that when playing this branch with the Asus Aura activated (soh-v1.24_aura_enabled branch), you may encounter some bugs that even The Presence can't control, so we will no longer be providing support for these issues, and this branch. These are the bugs that you may encounter in the Asus Aura version:

• Fatal Error: some computers may receive a fatal error when launching the game, whether Aura is installed or not.
• Unable to advance to EP2: If you have EP2 purchased or Song of Horror Complete, you may not be able to advance to EP2, and the game will ask you to purchase this episode.

Dear Song of Horror fans, We are sharing with you a brief changelog detailing today's hotfix:

Hotfix 1.23

Fixed a graphical bug on the ending cutscene with Erica. Known bugs We're tracking the following errors and they'll be fixed as soon as possible:

• The "Voices" omen can trigger a freeze in ultra graphic settings. To prevent it, we recommend reducing the "render quality" option in your settings to 93%.
• If you interact with the mirror at the end of Episode 4, Husher's reflection might disappear.
• If you interact with the Tarot Card before it is completed, diverse visual bugs will take place. The only thing you have to do to fix it is exit and re-enter the game.

Lovecraft, play as fan-favorite Erica in Episode 5, and face new scares and manifestations of The Presence. We promised to add these three new elements to Song of Horror to keep improving the game beyond launch and to offer all of you new content to look forward to. Here's everything Update 1.22 introduces to Song of Horror:

H.P. LOVECRAFT

H.P. Lovecraft difficulty is now available! H.P. Lovecraft is Song of Horror’s hardest difficulty level. You can unlock this new difficulty after beating the game for the first time in M.R. James or Edgar Allan Poe.

• The unlocking of H.P. Lovecraft is not retroactive: it won't unlock automatically if you already completed the game on M.R. James or Edgar Allan Poe. However, what you can do is watch the final cutscene again to unlock H.P. Lovecraft.
• H.P. Lovecraft is a global unlock. Once you obtain it, you’ll be able to select H.P. Lovecraft in any of your save slots.
• In H.P. Lovecraft, death (or worse!) lurks around every corner. The difficulty of all five Hauntings has been noticeably increased, and they will appear slightly more frequently than in Edgar Allan Poe. Lesser events will also tend to be more... malignant than before.
• Be on your guard! No tutorials will show up in H.P. Lovecraft (they are still accessible from the "Tutorials" section of the Pause menu), and you might find yourself facing dangers you didn’t expect.
• For those achievement hunters among us, you can now unlock a brand new one for completing the entire game on H.P. Lovecraft difficulty: "The Presence waits dreaming".
• You can also change difficulty at any time between H.P. Lovecraft and the other three difficulty levels with no restrictions. However, doing this will prevent you from getting the achievement associated with H.P. Lovecraft, so think carefully before committing.

EPISODE 5: NEW PLAYABLE CHARACTER AND EVENTS

Erica Färber is now playable in Episode 5! After going through unspeakable horrors at the Abbey of Saint Cecilia and the antique store, a final answer still eludes Erica, and as you know, she’s not one to sit idly by...

• To unlock Erica as a playable character in Episode 5, she needs to be present in Episode 4 and survive the ordeal (she doesn't need to be the one who finishes the episode). This is not retroactive: it will unlock on successful Episode 4 runs from now on.
• We also added several instances of random paranormal activity to Jeremy Hartwood Mental Hospital. Now, your adventure through this cursed place will be scarier than ever before!

• Fixed a rare bug where dodging an arm grab in the last second could result in your character still being grabbed and the associated icon not being properly shown.

Dear Song of Horror fans, Although the game is already out, we are still working hard on Song of Horror. Today, we introduce the first of several post-launch updates. This one focuses on general tweaks to the whole title, which include bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and important changes to the photograph puzzle in Episode 5, making it more accessible and easier to solve. Here's everything Update 1.21 adds to Song of Horror:

EPISODE 2

• Removed some locations where The Silence could get stuck.
• You should no longer get stuck when watching through Erica’s peephole.

EPISODE 3

• Fixed a bug which could cause you to not be able to obtain the slides if you used the power adapter before obtaining them.
• Added new cutscenes to the Interlude.

EPISODE 5

• The infamous photograph puzzle now registers when it gets correctly assembled and gives you the photograph plus the information paper as a document.
• Added several clues to the information document in the photograph puzzle.
• You can now access the completed photograph (if you have it) when inside the keypad puzzle.
• Fixed a puzzle icon appearing on the map when it shouldn’t.
• Fixed a bug where sometimes your character wouldn’t use the stethoscope when listening at doors.
• Fixed a rare instance of The Presence interfering with The First Dream’s starting cutscene.
• Fixed a bug where sometimes you could get stuck after obtaining the flare box.
• Fixed a bug which could cause the security panel buttons to disappear.
• Fixed several translation bugs.

• Fixed Ariadne glowing in the dark when you approached her with your flashlight off (reminded us of this scene).

• Fixed a bug that caused resolution to not stick properly.
• Fixed some VR devices from automatically launching upon Song of Horror being run (The Presence was trying to escape to other mediums!!!)
• Fixed a controller issue where using the controller stick to change between “Yes” and “No” options upon selecting Daniel or an Episode 5 character would cause your chosen personal and collectible items to also change.
• Removed some UI leftovers from the character selection screen.
• Fixed a setting in the “Ultra” effects configuration that would cause an undue performance impact.
• Added missing sound effects and fixed some existing ones.
• Fixed some bugs with the characters’ in-game voice lines.

Experiencing the end of the story with all of you, after all these years of development, has been very emotional for us. However, this is not the end! 1st Post-Launch Update: Second Week of June

• General tweaks, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes on all the Episodes
• Changes to the photograph puzzle: We noticed that this puzzle was too cryptic and difficult for many of you. That's why we left a post on the Steam forums with tips and tricks to help you solve it. In this patch, we will introduce some in-game adjustments to help you figure it out, like being able to take the picture with you or adding more tips to the enigma.

Dear Song of Horror fans, We are introducing a new update to Song of Horror, just in time for the launch of Episode 5! This patch is designed to introduce a couple of new (and highly requested!) features, as well as several quality-of-life adjustments.

Here's everything we are featuring in Song of Horror today with Update 1.2:

GENERAL

• E.T.A. Hoffmann mode is now available! E.T.A. Hoffmann is a new difficulty level that maintains the same general difficulty as M.R. James but, whenever you lose a character, you’ll be able to choose to load a previous checkpoint instead of succumbing to permanent death.
• Difficulty can now be changed up and down anytime during the game, with no restrictions, except one notable exception: changing difficulty in the middle of an ongoing dangerous event will not affect said event. Certain achievements still require a specific difficulty level to be maintained throughout the entirety of a given episode (or the entire game!) to be unlocked.
• Lots of minor bugs, graphical glitches, and subtitle errors have been fixed.

THE DARKNESS

• Shortened The Darkness’ duration to more appropriate levels. Now it won't take too long to know whether you survived... or you perished!
• Fixed a bug causing The Darkness to sometimes be harder than expected.
• Changed The Darkness’ feedback icon: now, the icon will become filled with white starting from the edge all the way to the center before receding again. Success will come by pressing the appropriate key/gamepad button when the icon is completely filled with white.
• Both the heartbeat sounds and the event’s tutorial (accessible from the “Tutorials” section in the Pause Menu) have been updated to reflect these changes.

THE SILENCE

• Updated the breathing icon to be more accurate. Now, you’ll have clearer feedback on whether you’re doing good or not.

EPISODE 1

• The final hallway has been remade to better reflect where you’re going.
• Fixed an uncommon bug that could cause interactable items to randomly swap with each other causing abnormal behaviors. A notable example was the entrance of the house, which could be blocked. If this bug affects you, all you need to do is restart the episode to have it fixed.

EPISODE 4

• Fixed a bug that could cause you to get stuck when you lose a character in the Basilica or in adjacent areas by blocking the well and preventing you from picking up the victim’s items.
• Fixed a bug that could cause you to be able to finish the episode without gathering the four ornate keys.
• The mausoleum door leading to the Prior’s confession has been given greatly increased chances of opening (it opens randomly).
• Fixed a bug with the Tarot deck causing it to not work as intended.
• Fixed a bug that could cause Etienne to appear in the ending sequence despite having been lost.

Introducing E.T.A. Hoffmann

Named after the famous gothic author, E.T.A. Hoffmann is a new difficulty option where there is no permadeath. In this mode, players can choose another character or re-start from the last checkpoint when a character dies. The Presence will also have the same difficulty level as MR James.

Now that we are closer than ever to the Final Episode, we feel it's the perfect moment to enjoy Episodes 1 through 4 in E.T.A. Hoffmann, to make sure your favorite characters reach the end!

About Permadeath in Song of Horror

Song of Horror was designed to be a challenging, scary experience where permadeath is essential. We want you to feel the true fear and pressure of losing a character forever, that every action you take has a meaningful impact, that mistakes have real consequences... But also, that these consequences promote changing characters and experiencing Song of Horror from different perspectives. However, we understand that every player is different. Some of you wanted to enjoy the story and gameplay of Song of Horror without permadeath getting in your way.

We recommend playing Song of Horror with permadeath for the first time... But, if the game was inaccessible to you due to this mechanic, we hope that the E.T.A Hoffmann difficulty will allow you to still enjoy it!

Playing with Lidia for the first time

You all know Lidia since the beginning of Episode 2. She is a dear friend of Daniel, a committed social worker with a tragic past. During the 70s and the 80s, Lidia witnessed many friends and even love interests fall prey to heroin addiction. Since then, she assists people in poor neighborhoods, jails, conflict zones... Wherever she can. Lidia met Daniel at her rehab program, where she guided him on his struggle against alcoholism. She became to his eyes a savior angel, and one of his best friends to date. Understanding the past to change the future

In your terrifying adventure through Jeremy Hartwood mental hospital, you will find clues on the sinister events that took place there. One doctor in particular, Berenice Prestegard, seems to know more than anyone else. After all, she was the professional analyzing the mental state of Ariadne LeGrant-Amsberg when she was a child... In certain moments of Episode 5, you will have the opportunity to play as Dr. Prestegard in brief flashbacks from the 1920s. These scenes from the past will shed some light on the mysteries behind the LeGrant-Amsberg family, the song, and of course, The Presence. The end is near

Following the events of the previous episode, Daniel and his companions are now at a crossroads. He knows he is running out of time: the clock is ticking, faster than ever, closing the gap between his life and his death. His only hopes now rest in the information gathered in his most precious finding to date: Argos LeGrant's Diary, where he finds a hidden note with a critical clue. In "The Horror and The Song", the character selection works differently. Looking at Daniel's phone contact agenda, you can only choose one person to play this episode. If they die, it's Daniel's turn.

Exploring Jeremy Hartwood, the forgotten mental hospital

Jeremy Hartwood Mental Hospital, once a recognized healthcare institution in the early XX Century, is now an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere. This is the place where Ariadne spent her childhood. Just like Daniel, the staff of the hospital was trying to understand her odd behavior... You will traverse the different wings of this oppressive facility to advance in Episode 5. Now that Episode 5 is in place, we are focusing on the manifestations of The Presence in Jeremy Hartwood. The behavior of the AI behind the Song of Horror antagonist, as you know from your scary encounters, is unpredictable, and we have to make sure that The Presence does not escape from the boundaries of the hospital ;) We are also adding the new characters and scenes, and working on the voice acting, general polish and high quality you can expect from this final episode. Dear Song of Horror fans, Recently, we have received several questions about how the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic might affect Song of Horror’s development. Protocol Games is a Madrid (Spain)-based development studio. As you know, both Spain and Madrid are being hit hard by COVID-19, and we ourselves had to adjust our procedures to comply with current safety restrictions and regulations. We have set ourselves up to develop Song of Horror remotely as efficiently, considering the limitations of remote work. Our decision to stay at home has proven to be beneficial since all four of us have been sick these past few weeks, with mild yet unpleasant symptoms coherent with a potential coronavirus infection. Despite this situation, we are giving our all and doing our absolute best to guarantee the level of quality you have come to expect from us. However, there are certain aspects of development that escape our control. One of these cases is the voice recording for Episode 5. The voice actors behind the characters of Song of Horror are currently staying at home as well, and the recording studio based in Paris is closed, following the recommendations of the healthcare system. We are looking for solutions to this and other occurrences with the help of our publisher, Raiser Games, who are also working remotely and helping us during this global situation.

Because of the previous set of events, we have made the hard decision of launching the final episode of Song of Horror on May 28th. We believe this is necessary to deliver the perfect ending to the Song of Horror story.

Dear Song of Horror fans, Song of Horror was designed to be a challenging, scary experience where permadeath is essential. We want you to feel the true fear and pressure of losing a character forever, that every action you take has a meaningful impact, that mistakes have real consequences... But also, that these consequences promote changing characters and experiencing Song of Horror from different perspectives. However, we understand that every player is different. Some of you wanted to enjoy the story and gameplay of Song of Horror without permadeath getting in your way. Now, thanks to your participation in our latest poll, we already know your final answer: you want Song of Horror to have a game mode without permadeath and keeping the same aggressiveness level of The Presence. Hoffmann, where players can choose another character or re-start from the last checkpoint when a character dies. The Presence will also have the same difficulty level as MR James. We will launch the E.T.A. Hoffmann difficulty option alongside Episode 5, so look forward to that!

We recommend playing Song of Horror with permadeath for the first time... But, if the game was inaccessible to you due to this mechanic, we hope that the E.T.A Hoffmann difficulty will allow you to still enjoy it!

Dear Song of Horror fans, We want to know your thoughts. There are many players that would like to play the game without the permadeath mechanic. They want to enjoy the story and gameplay without the worry of losing a character forever or restarting an episode. Because of the previous reason, we are considering adding a new difficulty option called E.T.A. Hoffmann, where players can choose another character or re-start from the last checkpoint when a character dies.
