Shrapnel Early Access – Week 4–5
Thank you to everyone who has continued to jump into Early Access each week. With a full Operator roster now in play and an expanding arsenal, we’re seeing more defined playstyles, stronger team coordination, and a clearer picture of how matches are evolving.
We’re tuning based on your feedback and addressing issues as they surface.
Before we jump in — a quick note.
This update is arriving later than planned. We took additional time to address an issue where skins were not consistently displaying correctly in-game. Getting that right was important, especially as we begin introducing progression-based rewards.
We have two focus areas for this update: The Battle Pass and Combat Improvements.
Our goal remains the same: bring players closer to the heart of Shrapnel and the decisions that define every session.
Battle Pass Integration
This week, we’re introducing Battle Passes to Shrapnel.
Operators now have another place to spend their hard-earned Grants — and to kick things off, we’re unlocking access to a free Battle Pass: Neon Dawn.
This first pass is a look at how progression will evolve in Shrapnel. Players can unlock: • Weapon skins • Player profile backgrounds • Insignias • Higher-rank Operators • Munitions Caches • And more
Over time, we’ll expand this system with both free and premium Battle Pass options.
What Makes a Shrapnel Battle Pass Different
Choose Your Path Each Battle Pass is made up of multiple pages, each containing several rewards. Players choose which items to unlock, progressing through the pass based on their priorities.
No Expiration Once you own a Battle Pass, there is no time limit for completion. Passes will also remain available for purchase even after new ones are introduced.
Full Trade All customization and gameplay items will be tradable peer-to-peer in the marketplace — including weapon skins, Operators, and more. While some items may not be tradable immediately, all are intended to become tradable over time.
Munitions Cache Each Battle Pass includes one or more Munitions Caches, which grant a random reward from a curated pool of items — including exclusive weapon skins, charms, player cards, and more.
Caches can be opened multiple times (up to a cap), meaning players may earn different rewards from the same pass — including items with higher trade value.
Higher-Rank Operators While Rank 1 Operators can be purchased directly with Grants, each free Battle Pass includes a Rank 2 Operator. This provides additional perks and traits, accelerating progression toward more specialized builds.
Refining Combat
Alongside progression, we’re continuing to improve the core experience.
This update includes: • Improvements to hit registration • Bug fixes across gameplay systems • Continued iteration on responsiveness and consistency
Combat feel remains a top priority. Every shot, every interaction, and every outcome needs to feel reliable and understandable.
As we continue tuning, we’ll be focusing on consistency — making sure what players see, feel, and expect aligns with what actually happens in-game.
On a more personal note — thank you.
We’ve been in the game alongside you throughout Early Access. There have been nights where we couldn’t help but play one more match, and more than a few meetings that started late because we were still in the Zone.
We appreciate everyone continuing to play, test, and share feedback as we shape the experience together.
See you in the Zone.

Shrapnel Early Access – Week 3
Thank you to everyone who jumped into Week 2 of Early Access. With new Operators, a new weapon, and expanded progression, we saw a wider range of playstyles begin to take shape across matches.
It’s hard to believe we’re entering our third week of Early Access already. We’ve had a lot of battles and quite a few discord conversations about the game. We’ve been listening to the feedback and if you want to check out the survey results from Week 1.
Week 1 established the foundation. Week 2 expanded how you play. Week 3 is about completing that foundation and refining how it all comes together.
Our goal remains the same: bring players closer to the heart of Shrapnel and the decisions that define every session.
Kicking off Week 3, we’re adding an initial version of Team Matchmaking, a new Operator, a new long-range weapon and a host of fixes Let’s dive in!
Team Matchmaking
You asked for it louder than anything else — in the survey, in Discord, and internally. Team Matchmaking is here.
Starting today, you can invite your Steam friends to your Squad. Don't have a full Squad? Matchmaking will fill the gaps. Just queue up and go.
We'll be expanding team play features over the coming weeks, but getting this in your hands was the priority. Now go find out who on your friends list actually knows how to play.
Welcome to the ‘Zone – Mother
With Week 3, we’re introducing Mother, completing our initial set of Operators.
Each Operator represents a different way to approach the battlefield — how you move, how you fight, and how your team controls Sigma.
Mother
A grizzled leader from the Draig Vanguard, marked by years of frontline command and battlefield triage; Mother directs the fight with precise marksmanship, stabilizing squads and preserving momentum under pressure.
Mother represents the Specialist class — built for disruption, mobility, and unpredictable pressure.
Sigma Ability – Overdrive Flood your body with energy, increasing movement speed and jump height for a short duration.
Mother is designed to break patterns in combat — quickly repositioning, collapsing on opportunities, and forcing enemies to react to sudden shifts in pressure.
With Index, Swan, Phantom, Stonewall, and now Mother, we now have a full range of playstyles in the game: • Speed and disruption • Control and survivability • Force and displacement • Tactical disruption and unpredictability
Remember, Operators are not just characters — they are different ways to solve the same battlefield.
New Weapon – M7 Longshot DMR
Week 3 introduces a new weapon class to the arsenal: the M7 Longshot DMR.
A long-range, semi-automatic, scoped rifle, the Longshot is built for precision engagements and controlled pressure across open sightlines.
The Longshot brings a different pacing to combat: • Slower, more deliberate engagements • High accuracy with strong single-shot impact • Rewards positioning, timing, and shot discipline
Unlike the CL7 MK II introduced last week, which thrives in sustained engagements, the Longshot is designed to control space.
This creates new dynamics across the map — teams must now account for long-range threats when collecting, depositing, and securing their Grav Syncs.
As the weapon pool expands, range becomes a defining factor in how matches play. The Longshot adds a new layer of control to the battlefield — one that rewards patience, positioning, and precision.
Disruptor Grenades
We’ve previewed these weapons with some Operators who were able to make it into our earlier playtests and you may have seen their impact in The Zone. This week, they’re open for everyone to use. Don’t forget to edit your loadouts!
The Disruptor Grenade is an area denial weapon dealing high damage over a short period of time. Much like lower-tech incendiary-type weapons, deploying the Disruptor Grenade can take away paths of attack or even slow teams from being able to safely approach their own Grav Syncs.
Team Matchmaking
Everybody wants to play with their friends, and now they can. This week see the addition of Team Matchmaking, so grab some friends and try to dominate!
This feature was the most requested across the survey, discord, and internally, the developers wanted to get this in the game quickly. We will be expanding features over the next few weeks, but once we’re live you’ve be able to invite Friends to your Squad from the Main Menu.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a full Squad, Matchmaking will take care of it.
Refining the Experience
With the full Operator roster now in play and expanded weapon options, Week 3 is focused on refinement.
We now have a clearer picture of how systems interact across real matches, and we’re using that to improve how the game feels moment to moment.
This includes: • Combat feel and responsiveness • Weapon balance and engagement consistency • Core player attributes (health, speed, stamina, recovery, jump height) • Clarity around objectives, depositing, and match flow
These systems define how the game feels in your hands, and they are our top priority.
Weapons and Balance
With the addition of the Longshot and expanded Operator playstyles, we’re beginning our first broader tuning pass.
The goal is not just balance, but clarity.
Weapons and abilities should feel distinct, predictable, and reliable across all engagement ranges. As we continue tuning, we’re looking at: • Damage consistency and time-to-kill • Weapon roles across close, mid, and long-range combat • How weapons and abilities interact across Operator matchups
This is an ongoing process, and you should expect continued adjustments as the game evolves.
Progression
As more players engage with Perk selection and Operator progression, we’re continuing to evaluate how these systems shape gameplay.
Progression is about giving players control but over their playstyle, not just a power increase.
We’re reviewing: • Perk clarity and usefulness • Impact of progression choices on gameplay • Long-term pacing and unlock structure
This is still early, and your feedback here will directly shape how these systems evolve.
Week 2 Learnings
Week 2 gave us a better understanding of how expanded systems affect the core loop.
As the game expands, clarity becomes more important.
We’re continuing to focus on: • Training and onboarding across all systems • Reducing friction in interactions (especially pickups and swaps) • Improving consistency across matches
We’re also beginning to see early patterns in preferred Operators, weapons, and playstyles, which will guide upcoming tuning and balance work.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue refining while preparing the next layer of systems:
Continued Operator and weapon tuning
Attribute balancing across the full roster
Improvements to matchmaking and session flow
Progression expansion and long-term systems
New Weapon – LMG
Operator Reconditioning System – Similar to “prestiging” max level Operators.
Map Variants
Ongoing bug fixing and performance improvements
Most importantly, we’ll keep listening to what feels good, what feels unclear, and what needs to improve.
Week 2 expanded the battlefield. Week 3 completes the roster and extends the range of combat.
We appreciate everyone continuing to play, test, and share feedback as we shape the experience together.
- See you in the Zone.

5. Qualitative Highlights
Themes surfaced from open-text responses that go beyond the quantitative data.
Theme
Detail
Server lag masking gameplay
Many players rating movement or gunfights negatively are experiencing high-ping de-sync. EU and AU players report 200+ ms latency — fixing servers will organically lift several other scores.
Grenade visibility gap
Multiple players request directional on-screen indicators for incoming grenades. Described as "unpredictable in a bad way."
Enemy contrast insufficient
Hard to spot enemies against the environment despite red nametags. A faint silhouette or contrast boost is a common request.
Skip Space dominance in 4v4
Swan's fast-flanking ability frustrates players in small lobbies. Some request phased zone unlocks to limit early-game flanking.
Early game feels slow
Matches feel pointless before 300 Sigma is available. A ramp-up mechanic or earlier objective pressure is suggested.
Team communication gaps
10-second respawn window not used for coordination. Players want in-match voice chat or pre-round communication.
Shrapnel Early Access – Week 2
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Week 1 of Early Access. We had a lot a great battles, uncovered some important issues, and had loads of fun.
Week 1 established the foundation — introducing the core loop, the first Operators, and how matches are driven by Collect, Deposit, and Secure.
Week 2 is about expanding that experience.
We’re adding new ways to play, new ways to approach the battlefield, and more control over how your Operator develops over time.
Our goal remains the same: bring players closer to the heart of Shrapnel and the decisions that define every session.
The Operators
In Week 1 introduced Swan — a fast, aggressive Infiltrator built around speed, pressure, and constant movement.
In Week 2, we’re expanding the roster with two new Operators that introduce new roles, new strategies, and new ways to control the match.
Phantom Phantom is a Sentinel class Operator built for survivability and resilience. Where Swan thrives on speed and disruption, Phantom is designed to hold ground, absorb pressure, and anchor the team in contested spaces. Phantoms’ ability is Blockade, allowing him to generate a protective energy barrier that intercepts incoming damage. Stonewall Stonewall is an unrelenting warrior who drives into close-range resistance, absorbing pressure to break lines and create space through direct confrontation. Stonewall rolls with the Shockwave ability allowing him to release a volatile charge that detonates on impact, blasting enemies outward with concussive force.
With each of our Operators, Index, Swan, Phantom, and Stonewall, we’re expanding the range of playstyles available to every team:
Speed and disruption
Control and survivability
Force and displacement
Each Operator changes how a team approaches Collect, Deposit, and Secure.
Remember, Operators are not just characters — they offer different ways to find victory in the Sacrifice Zone.
The CL7 MK II
Week 2 also introduces a new weapon to the arsenal. We’re unleashing the CL7 MK II Assault Rifle. The classic bullpup design is refined to offer moderate damage with high rates of fire and accuracy.
Each addition to the weapon pool is designed to create more meaningful choices in how players approach combat — from engagement distance to pacing and pressure.
As we continue to expand the arsenal, weapons will play a larger role in defining playstyle alongside Operator choice.
Progression
We’ve expanded Operator progression in Week 2.
Players can now choose between different Perks as they level up their Operators, giving more control over how each Operator develops over time.
Progression is about more than unlocking power — it’s about shaping how you play. These choices begin to define your role within the team and how you approach each match.
This is an early step toward deeper customization, and we’ll continue building on it in future updates.
Week 1 Learnings
Week 1 gave us a clear view into how the game is playing across a wide range of sessions.
At the same time, your feedback highlighted areas where the experience needs to expand.
The core loop is landing, but training, across all features, is something we need to improve. At the same time, there are some early favorites amongst weapons and playstyles, which will be interesting to see how the Week 2 addition change the game.
We’ve already begun addressing some of the biggest friction points:
Improved navigation across the environment to support better movement and flow
Fixed a major issue causing long loading times and shader compile delays
Continued improvements to load times / late join issues.
There will be a weapon tuning pass most likely in the week 3-4 range when we see how the New Operators and weapons change the battlefield. We’ll also likely address base attribute adjustments at the same time – Health, Speed, Stamina Recovery + total amount, and Jump Height, as we come to understand how the new Operators alter the mix.
These are foundational improvements, and we’ll continue refining the experience as we move forward.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue expanding and refining the experience:
New Operators and evolving team compositions
Additional weapons and combat options
Squad System / Party Joins
Deeper progression and customization systems
Battlepass and Mission systems
Updates driven directly by community feedback
And of course, bug fixing and tuning and bug fixing some more.
Most importantly, we’ll keep listening to what feels exciting, what feels unclear, and what needs improvement.
Week 1 established the foundation.
Week 2 expands how you play.
We appreciate everyone who jumped in early and helped us take that first step. In week 2 we’re very excited to see how the new additions enhance the experience.
See you in the Zone.

Shrapnel Early Access – Week 1
Update: Day 1 & 2 of Shrapnel Early Access is officially in the books — and what a start it’s been.
Thanks to player reports and feedback from the community, the team was able to quickly identify the match loading issue where some players were experiencing long initial load times. We’ve already implemented a fix, and match loading times should now be significantly improved. We are continuing to optimize overall performance of the game and fix issues.
Welcome to Early Access Week 1. We’re excited to begin playing and building Shrapnel with you.
This marks the start of a more open process for our team — one where we share what we’re testing, what we’re learning, and how your feedback helps shape the game. Week by week, we want to bring the community closer to the decisions that define Shrapnel and the systems that drive each match.
Our goal is simple: bring players closer to the heart of Shrapnel and the decisions that define every session.
The Operators
To kick things off, Early Access begins with Index and Swan — two of our favorite Operators and strong examples of the roles and team dynamics we want Shrapnel to support.
Each Operator represents a distinct playstyle: a different way to approach the battlefield, support the squad, and help secure victory. Index and Swan highlight two sides of that vision and are a strong place to begin showing how Operator identity connects directly to the match itself.
As Early Access continues, we’ll introduce more Operators and explore how different abilities, strengths, and roles shape the rhythm of a match.
Operators are not just characters — they are different ways to solve the same battlefield.
The Game Mode – Stockpile
At the center of the Shrapnel experience is Stockpile.
In this mode, teams compete to collect and deposit 300 G-Kg's of Sigma before the enemy team.
At its core, the mode breaks down into three simple actions:
Collect. Deposit. Secure.
Success in each of these actions drives the rhythm of every match.
Teams move through the battlefield to collect Sigma from meteor impact sites and other opportunities in the Zone. Once recovered, Sigma must be delivered to your team’s active Grav-Sync to convert it into progress toward victory.
But depositing Sigma is only part of the fight.
Teams must secure control of their Grav-Sync long enough to protect their gains from thieves, while also looking for opportunities to disrupt the enemy team’s progress.
This is what gives Shrapnel its distinct pressure. You’re not only fighting for eliminations — you’re fighting for momentum, territory, and the resources that make your team stronger over time.
The Power Curve
One of the most important systems in Shrapnel is the team power curve.
The more Sigma your team recovers and successfully deposits, the more powerful your team’s abilities become. Matches are driven by that escalation.
Early in a match, teams contest space and search for openings. As more Sigma enters the system, the stakes rise. Abilities become more impactful, team fights become more dangerous, and momentum begins to matter more.
By the late stages of a match, every decision carries more weight.
Sigma isn’t just something you score.
It’s the fuel that drives the match forward.
The team that controls Sigma controls the pace of the match.
The Core Loop
Remember, the full loop of Stockpile is never just about one action. It’s about the relationship between all three:
• Collect to create opportunity. • Deposit to convert that opportunity into power. • Secure to defend what your team has earned.
That relationship — and the tension it creates — is the foundation we’re building on.

Operators,
This Friday March 13 we’re hosting our first Play With The Devs session — and the Shrapnel team will be jumping into matches with the community.
Developers — including the Head of Game Design — will be playing live matches while the community team streams the session in Discord. This is your chance to jump into the Sacrifice Zone with the people building the game, ask questions, and share your feedback directly with the team.
Because matches are solo queue, you may find yourself in a match with — or against — the devs.
And if you do…
There’s a bounty.
Two Shrapnel team members will be designated as Sigma Targets:
McKenna Adam
If play with one of them during a match and deposit 38 Sigma, you can enter the giveaway.
To enter:
Play with McKenna or McKenna in a match and deposit 38 sigma
Take a screenshot of the scoreboard
Post the screenshot in the Play With The Devs channel in Discord
Each verified screenshot counts as an entry. Limit: 1 entry per player.
At the end of the event we will randomly select 10 winners.
Reward:
10 × $20 Steam Gift Cards
Friday 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM PT
The official event window is one hour, but devs may continue playing if the community desires...
If you want the best chance to run into the dev team, jump in right at 11:00 AM PT.
The Community Team and Head of Game Design will also be live in Discord during the event.
Join to:
• watch dev matches • ask questions about the game • share feedback with the team • coordinate with other players

Update Operators: We've identified a fix for the stuck at 75% loading issue! Match loading time should be much better now. Day 1 is a wrap for Early Access.
We're trilled with the turn out from the community, across Twitch and in Discord. We've receved a ton of great feedback that is only able to be surfaced by having real players get into game. Early Access isn't the finish line, it's just the beginning. Please continue to surface feedback in the comments and in our discord so the devs can continue to prioritize optimizing Shrapnel to be the best game it can be. Again thank you for an amazing day 1, and joining us on this journey as we build Shrapnel together!
Operators,
Some players may experience longer loading screens while shaders compile when entering a match. During this process the loading bar may appear to pause around ~75%.
If this happens, please do not back out. The game is not stalled, and the match will not begin until all players have finished loading.
In some cases you may also be returned to the main menu after loading — this is a known issue we are actively working on fixing.
If you load into a spectator camera when the match starts, please restart your client. There are unstable match instances that contain flickering VFX and can ultimately lead to loss of game control. Please restart your client.
These issues have been identified and fixes are already in progress. This is exactly why we’re launching in Early Access — to surface issues quickly and improve the experience together with the community.
Thank you for jumping into the Sacrifice Zone with us and helping us make Shrapnel better.
— The Shrapnel Team

— The Shrapnel Team
Hey Operators,
Recon One was our first community playtest with Stockpile — and we want to give you a proper debrief.
You were the first group to go hands-on with a major content drop all at once: new Operators and abilities, a new map, and our new 4v4 objective mode, Stockpile. That's a lot of new ground to cover in a single session, which is exactly why your feedback was so valuable. We read every submission. We took notes. And a lot of what you called out is already fixed.
Here's what the data told us — and what we've been doing about it.
The foundations came through clearly. Across submissions, here's where you scored us:
Visuals & Atmosphere
Stockpile Mode Fun & Team-Oriented
Sigma Abilities Feeling Impactful
Map layout, traversal options, and Operator variety all got consistent love. The consensus: Stockpile is a fast-paced mode with real momentum, and no two players approached it the same way. That's by design. There's no single correct way to play Shrapnel — your creativity is the edge. It was genuinely exciting to watch how quickly you figured that out.
Hit Registration → Fixed You told us shots weren’t always landing where they should, and inconsistent TTK was the result. → We identified and resolved a server-side shot resolution issue that was interfering with bullet registration. This required a significant backend overhaul — and it’s now live. Gunplay feel is considerably more consistent.
Movement Feel → Tuning in Progress Movement felt heavier than expected. Slide and parkour transitions weren’t as fluid as they needed to be. → We’ve made strong progress on mantle and crouch animation blending to improve consistency. Run speed, acceleration, and FOV variability tied to player actions have been tuned to make movement more responsive. The game should feel lighter and more reactive — and we’re continuing to dial it in.
Weapon & Ability Balance → First Balance Pass Complete The shotgun dominated due to high short-range performance without demanding precision. Sigma Wave and Sigma Dash pulled ahead of other abilities. → We’ve completed a full weapon balance pass and are continuing to monitor live data and feedback. The goal is meaningful loadout choice — not one clear winner. Ability tuning is ongoing to ensure no single option crowds out the rest.
Readability & QoL → Improvements Rolling Out You asked for clearer ADS visibility, stronger combat feedback, and better awareness of where threats are coming from. → We’re actively refining UI clarity, feedback cues, and engagement readability so you always understand what’s happening in a fight. This is a continuing focus area as we iterate.
Map Flow & Collision → Ongoing Cleanup Navigation blockers and collision issues disrupted close matches. → We’re continuing to refine the map by removing movement blockers and smoothing traversal paths. Keep the feedback coming — it directly informs these improvements.
First-Time User Experience → Now in Development Clear objective communication from the first seconds of a match was missing. → FTUE is a priority. We’re building clearer objective onboarding both in-game (audio/visual cues) and through external content to ensure new players immediately understand how to play and win.
We’re keeping the pedal down, going deeper on the same priorities:
Continued weapon feel, behavior, tuning, and audio polish
ADS and Combat Visibility improvements
More movement work — slide, parkour, collision refinement
Full ability tuning pass and bug squash
Major HUD redesign for the Collect/Deposit/Secure loop: score widget, Sigma display, ability presentation
Clearer ability leveling callouts — better feedback when abilities activate, deactivate, or power up as your team deposits more Sigma
Performance optimizations and server stability
Map visibility and readability improvements
The weapon notes you submitted were especially useful — genuinely some of the most actionable feedback we received. Thank you for the support.
Next up: Gala x $FIGHT Token Playtest Event
The next playtest is happening February 25, 3–9 PM PST, and it's built on everything you helped us identify in Recon One. This event is only accessible to those who claimed the FIGHT Revolver Skin. For all those that claimed the skin, steam keys will be delivered Tuesday evening. We may still have a few extra keys for our most dedicated community members in our Discord. As always, be sure to stay tuned into our social channels to keep up to date for future announcements.
We're lucky to have operators willing to go in early, push the edges, and tell us exactly what's broken. That's how this gets built right.
See you in the Zone.
— The SHRAPNEL Team
This is more than a milestone — it marks the beginning of a new chapter for Shrapnel.
Over the past year, a small and dedicated team of developers and lifelong FPS players has taken the reins and rebuilt the game with a clear, focused vision. Shrapnel 2.0 represents the culmination of that work — a reset grounded in accountability, passion, and gameplay-first development.
Shrapnel is built around tight, objective-based FPS gameplay, meaningful character builds, and team-based strategy. Early Access is how we refine that foundation with the people who matter most: the players. To everyone who has stuck with Shrapnel through every phase — thank you. Your support is the reason we’re here, and your voice will help define what comes next.
The core of Shrapnel is already fun and playable. But shooters are shaped through real player feedback.
Balancing characters, tuning weapons, refining movement, and sharpening match flow all benefit from live play. Early Access allows us to iterate quickly, respond directly to player input, and improve the game in meaningful ways.
We’re an indie team building for the long term. Releasing in stages allows us to listen, improve, and grow Shrapnel into the strongest version of itself.
At Early Access launch, Shrapnel features a single competitive game mode: Stockpile.
Game Mode: Stockpile
SHRAPNEL: Stockpile is a 4v4 objective-based FPS where squads compete to collect and deposit 300 grav-kilos of volatile Sigma before their rivals. Players take on contracts as Operators working for Valdacha, navigating hostile terrain, engaging enemy squads, and securing Sigma from both the world and opposing teams.
4v4 squad-based matches
First team to deposit 300 grav-kilos of Sigma wins
Sigma can be gathered or stolen from enemy Operators
Teams deposit Sigma at their active Grav-Sync
As more Sigma is deposited, your team’s Sigma Abilities grow more powerful

Time of Day: Dusk
2 playable Operators at launch
Scaling to 5 Operators during Early Access
Each Operator features a unique primary weapon and Sigma Ability
Operators can be switched on respawn to adapt to match conditions
5 unique Sigma Abilities

Some Early Access content may be reset or adjusted at full release
Community involvement is central to Shrapnel’s Early Access development.
We communicate through:
Monthly game updates
Monthly development blogs
Active engagement across TikTok, X, YouTube, and Meta
A public Discord server with direct interaction between players and the development team
Player feedback is reviewed regularly and directly influences tuning, balance updates, and feature priorities.
Keep an eye on our community hub open to all players, designed to recognize and engage Shrapnel’s most dedicated supporters.
When priorities shift based on community input, our Roadmap will reflect those changes.
During Early Access, we plan to expand the Operator roster from 2 to 5, introduce new Sigma Abilities and weapons, and roll out progression systems including the Battle Pass and Daily Missions.
Looking ahead to full release, Shrapnel will continue to evolve with:
Ongoing gameplay refinement
Additional Operators
Expanded progression and customization
New Tokyo variations and time-of-day options
Map rotation
Mode variants and rotating playlists
Controller support
Party systems
Weapon customization
New free and paid Battle Passes
Expanded cosmetic offerings
Early Access gives us the data and feedback needed to stabilize, tune, and polish these systems before full release.
Hey Operators,
Welcome to our latest dev update covering November through January. It’s been a packed period at the studio as we charge toward our upcoming milestones. With Recon One in December and the holidays right after, we’re bundling these months into one post. Before we dive in, huge shoutout to the team for the push since Recon One — the progress has been genuinely incredible, the momentum is stronger than ever, and we’re stoked about what’s next. We’ll share more soon on timelines and play opportunities.P.S. Our next post will break down your Recon One feedback: what we’ve fixed already and what’s in the works. Stay tuned!Combat feels tighter: We overhauled shot resolution on the server side, fixing critical bullet registration issues. This didn’t make Recon One, but it’s live now and makes hits feel more reliable. We paired this with dynamic weapon spread (crouch for accuracy, sprint for bloom), ADS recoil tuning, and scalable hitboxes that adapt when you’re running or jumping. The shooting feels consistent and smoother.
The game looks and sounds better: Sigma abilities got refreshed VFX — and we heard you: no more Wave dust clutter. Audio also got a full pass. Drones now roar, hover, and take off with new sounds, and weapons like the SMG and DMR feel punchier and more distinct. Environments pop with wet footsteps, wind chimes, and rain, plus ambient touches like crows and rats. Last but not least, updated in-game lighting and Operator material tuning improves readability and overall visual experience .
Hitboxes got smarter. We added a system that lets hitboxes scale with player actions (and made it easier for designers to tune).
Fairer Matches, Safer Respawns. We implemented and are actively iterating on our first version of skill-based MMR with adaptive logic for team sizes, wait times, and skill ranges. The new dynamic respawn system prevents spawn kills by placing you near teammates and away from objectives. Backfill keeps matches full, i.e. if someone disconnects, a new player can drop in, and you may join games already in progress.
Weapons and loadouts are expanding. The DMR is in-game with scope support, and the LMG is nearing completion. Loadout screens are ~80% refined with more consistent and clearer controls, and post-launch we’ll focus on optics, suppressors, and more customizations.Pickups are being cleaned up. We’ve been prioritizing weapon pickup behavior and simplifying “what auto-picks up vs what should be manual,” while keeping Sigma interaction intentional.VFX and lighting improvements are paying off. Sigma abilities went through a VFX refresh pass to reduce visual clutter and improve distinction between effects- Sigma Wave and Wind, for example, no longer look too similar. Drone presentation has also leveled up with new arrival/departure animations, particles, and lighting. Drones now animate into stockpile locations instead of simply appearing, and ambient drones patrol map boundaries to make the world feel more alive. Areas like Flood Town received more thematic details. Updated in-game lighting plus Operator material tuning has improved readability and made the overall experience easier on the eyes. Animations are smoother, and small details add life. We’ve made strong progress on blending for crouch, ADS, shooting, reloads, and mantles. Grenades throw cleanly without skipping or getting stuck. On top of that, we added ambient critters like crows and rats for the atmosphere.
Audio is doing more work for gameplay clarity. Sigma abilities now have clearer, distinct sound signatures, with improved level-up and recharge SFX plus HUD cues. A cool sound effect to indicate respawning has been added too. Weapon audio got a full balancing pass: SMG and DMR in particular now feel sharper and more identifiable (the SMG audio is a team favorite). Environmental clarity also improved with context-sensitive footsteps (wet/mud), map emitters like wind chimes and rain, and a complete drone audio suite (roar, hover, takeoff, extraction). We want every moment to feel intuitive — from login to post-match. HUD UI continues to evolve. We’re iterating on in-match HUD elements to improve clarity and support moment-to-moment decisions during a match. The Sigma carry indicator has been redesigned to better show capacity and transfer rates when stealing or depositing. Health display has been improved for greater accuracy. Sigma ability, team, and fallen Sigma icons have also received a visual refresh to improve readability and situational awareness.
Launcher, public profiles, and localization are advancing. Public profiles are in place visually, and we’re integrating game stats and inventory displays, waiting on backend hooks. Localization is in progress for Chinese, French, and LATAM Spanish, including custom fonts.
End-to-end flows are working. We’ve successfully tested purchase-to-game (buy a skin> see it in-game). We also consolidated the essential UI screens into one cohesive system: Battle Pass grid, Operator progression, loadouts, post-game unlocks, and purchase/confirmation/economy modals — so it feels like a connected experience, not a pile of disconnected screens.Progression and missions are in a solid spot. The account progression MVP includes Operator slots, loadouts, and Battle Pass integration. Daily and weekly missions are designed.
Narrative & Lore
We’re making the world feel real, and the story is continuing to deepen. Dave Mongan is leading world-building, and we’re reviewing and updating all in-game text and VO to reflect Valdacha Corporation’s perspective. Our goal is for players to enter the Zone with clear context: why they’re fighting, and what Sigma actually means.Cohesive tone and voice. We’re aligning narrative tone across every touchpoint: in-game, store pages, and throughout marketing, so the backstory stays consistent.Finalized Cinematic. Cinematics are moving through finalization with updated moon/meteor shots, female VO, and narrative hooks tied to Sigma and drones.Terminology Updates“Sigma Score” → “Grav-Kilos” (weight-based measurement reflecting extraction quantities).
“Victory/Defeat” → “Contract Fulfilled/Terminated” (reinforcing corporate framing).
“Stockpiles” → “Grav-Sync” (reflecting Sigma extraction technology and the drone collection system).
China launch prep is also moving forward with infrastructure and partner work on track.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this update and look forward to hearing your thoughts, comments, and questions. Until next time!
Thanks,Team ShrapnelAbout
