Improved anchors
- anchors can now be picked up and dropped manually, allowing you to use them for maneuvering (kedging)
- anchors will now hold more effectively as they become more parallel with the seabed
- improved the reliability of anchor physics to prevent anchors releasing randomly and other unexpected behavior
- the anchor state is now saved between sessions
Other changes
- performance optimizations: in some cases, you might see 30%-40% increase in FPS, depending on your system
- oars now apply more force at low speeds, but lose their effectiveness as boat speed increases. This should make them usable for low speed maneuvers even on the big ships
- reduced the food and water cost of using oars
- reduced the friction between boats and terrain to make grounded boats easier to get unstuck
- fixed a bug where the game wouldn't load if you only had one active save slot
New Features & Gameplay Changes
- you can now quickly access your inventory slots by pressing the number keys on your keyboard (from 1 to 5). Press the slot hotkey while holding an item to insert it into the corresponding slot, press again with empty hands to retrieve the item from the slot.
- added oars, which can be used to row your boat at the cost of some food and water. Oars are included when starting a new game in Al'Ankh and Emerald Archipelago, and they can also be purchased on some islands.
- you can no longer push your boat while swimming
- increased light saturation at night
- added a "reset to default" option for keybindings
- added an "open save folder" button in the save slot menu
Bug Fixes
- falling through docks when disembarking in Emerald Archipelago with low framerate should now be much less likely
- fixed a bug causing items to spill out of crates sometimes when loading a saved game
- the screen resolution menu should now work properly
- fixed a bug where some UI elements were difficult to click on a moving boat
- exiting the Gold Rock City shipyard should no longer damage your ship
- you should no longer be able to accidentally pick up items while sleeping
- fixed inconsistent refund prices in shipyards
- you can now always choose a save slot when starting a new game
- fixed the sanbuq's wooden cabin to make space for mooring ropes
- fixed the sun totem's collider
- fixed a bug with the tutorial hints for using the halyard on the kakam
New Features
- Crow's Nests: now available in shipyards for the three medium-sized ships, along with ratlines for climbing. Crow's nests will allow you to see farther beyond the horizon, making it easier to spot distant lands. The horizon mechanics have also been improved to more closely match the curvature of the game's planet. This means you will be able to see slightly farther than before, even at ground level
- Resizing sails in shipyards: you can now freely change the size of all sails in the shipyard, giving you more freedom to design your perfect rig. For square sails, you can also adjust their width and height separately to some extent. Duplicate sails of different sizes have been removed from the shipyard options.
Other Changes
- added several new customization options for the medium ships: wooden roof for the sanbuq, deep keel for the junk, and forecastle for the brig
- oakum is now available for purchase in Chronos
- you can now hold down the buttons to move sails up and down in the shipyard, instead of spam clicking
- improved the visuals of sheet ropes for some sails
- improved the resolution selection menu in settings
- various minor UI improvements
Bug Fixes
- drinking from mugs should now work properly
- increased the depth of the ocean floor so that it should no longer get exposed in very high waves
- fixed some issues where your boat could get damaged randomly while docked or sleeping
- fixed a bug where the camera would stutter when on a moving boat in some cases
- fixed a bug where some tables could not be nailed down with the hammer
- other minor bug fixes
New Features
- Improved cargo placing: when placing big items such as crates and furniture, they will now move slightly to avoid collisions with other items or walls, making them easier and less frustrating to place. This feature can be turned off in the settings.
- Fixing furniture in place: shops in capital cities now sell hammers, which can be used to lock big items like furniture or cargo in place, preventing them from being picked up accidentally. Hanging items like paintings, maps or lamp hooks can also be nailed down.
- Charting kit protractor: the map charting kit now includes two protractors of different sizes, which can be used to measure the compass angle of your lines.
Gameplay Changes
- changed the length of the mile shown in the mission information to match the miles measured by the chip log and the charting kit ruler; this means all distances between islands will now show a different number of miles than before, but the actual distance in the world remains the same
- added more reputation levels, and adjusted the reputation requirements for each level
- changed the way mission reputation rewards are calculated; the reward will now mostly depend on the distance, instead of the amount of cargo
- the reputation UI will now show bars with progress towards the next level for each region
- added a money animation whenever you spend or earn money
- adjusted the boat damage visuals slightly to reflect the real amount of damage more accurately
- the inventory and log UI will now darken slightly at night
Bug Fixes
- New embarking system: entering and exiting your boat should now be much smoother and more reliable. This new system should make it nearly impossible to accidentally fall into the water, clip through the dock, etc, while embarking or disembarking.
- fixed random jitter and glitches when using the charting kit on a moving boat
- you can no longer drink from mission barrels
- streetlights will no longer illuminate your inventory and other UI elements
- various minor UI improvements and fixes
Hi everyone, just a quick update on current development status. First, you might have noticed my absence lately - I took a break for the holidays, but don't worry, development continues as normal from now on.
As you can see from the roadmap, we're getting pretty close to hitting the full release milestone. As such, for the next several updates I would like to focus mainly on general polish, bug fixing and optimizations, to make the game ready and worthy of the full release status. This means there likely won't be any exciting new content in the near future, but some welcome quality of life changes should be coming, including some long-requested ones like locking furniture in place or better cargo placing system.
I'm also aware that there's been many reports of performance issues and major bugs. I can't promise I'll be able to fix them all, but I'll be doing as much as I can to focus on those issues for the next few months of development leading up to full release.
I hope everyone's been having a great time during the holiday season. Merry Christmas and happy new year, sailors!
New Features
- map charting
You can now plot charts on your maps using the newly added charting kit. Place a map on a table and use the charting kit on it to access the chart plotting system. You can draw lines and measure distances with a ruler, but be careful - lines cannot be erased!
Charting kits can be purchased in capital cities.
- oakum
Oakum can now be used for temporary hull repairs. You can purchase barrels of oakum on most islands, and use them to patch holes in your ship for quick temporary repairs. Patching holes with oakum will stop leaks for a while, but doesn't actually repair the damage, so you'll still need to visit a shipyard eventually.
The amount of oakum required to patch holes increases with the amount of damage and the size of the ship. When fully patched, it will stop all leaks completely, but will also deteriorate quickly. The rate of deterioration increases with the amount of oakum used, which means bigger holes will need more frequent patching.
Bug Fixes
- improved the crate system to eliminate various crate-related bugs (disappearing items, etc)
- you can now once again store lanterns and other hangable items in crates
- fixed a bug where some world items would not spawn properly on old saves
- barrels of sea water now sell for the same price as empty barrels
- fixed a terrain collision bug in Mirage Mountain
- fixed a bug where some potted plants would not load correctly
- fixed a texture bug with the bucket
- fixed a texture bug with the Al'Ankh map
PS: Info for modders: SaveablePrefab.instanceId is now assigned when the prefab is spawned/bought, which means all prefabs should now have their correct instanceId available at any time and will keep the same one between save/load.
- New Islands
Added new islands in and around the Al'Ankh region. Along with the new islands you'll also find some new items and trade goods.
- Boat damage
Your ship's hull will now slowly deteriorate over time. Strong impacts will cause additional, significant damage. Damaged hulls will slowly leak water, which needs to be bailed (using the newly added buckets) to prevent sinking. Large ships can also be outfitted with bilge pumps in a shipyard, which speeds up the bailing process.
Rain will now also slowly fill up your ship with water. The water still drains by itself as before, but much slower, making manual bailing necessary in many cases.
Hull damage can be repaired in a shipyard.
- Tea and coffee
Added kettles, which can be used to brew tea or coffee. Fill up with water, add tea or coffee, boil it on a stove, then pour into a mug.
Tea, coffee and kettles are available for purchase in capital cities and several other islands.
Other Changes
- added a tavern in Chronos
- the price of items in shops can now vary for some items on different islands
- various bug fixes
New Features
- three new islands added in the Emerald Archipelago region, along with new trade goods and new items available for purchase on the new islands
Note: when loading your saves from the previous version, the economy can take some time to adapt to the new islands and goods. For the first few in-game days/weeks you might see some unusual prices and lack of price information.
Other Changes
- you can now climb steeper slopes without having to jump
- fixed a camera stuttering issue when jumping and falling
