When playing with low VRAM devices (4GB and lower), or when playing at 1080p and lower, will automatically load 2K textures (instead of 4K textures) to save VRAM. As we transition from Early Access to our full 1.0 release, we’ve made some adjustments to the early-game flow to ensure a smoother experience for new players.
For our veteran players, this means some shops you previously accessed will need to be re-unlocked. While this might feel like a change of pace, you can get back to your familiar setup by progressing through and completing Area 3.
Why the change? Aside from a more balanced learning curve, we’ve packed the journey with brand-new content for you to discover along the way:
New Boon System: Harness powerful buffs to boost your build.
More to Explore: Discover new books, tougher enemies, and entirely new areas.
Beyond the Horizon: There is now content that goes far beyond what was available in Early Access!
As a bonus, anyone playing with a save from Early Access will have all books unlocked to start playing with from the start! We recommend waiting until you unlock the scroll shop before trying out the Scrollfolio.
Thank you for being part of our journey from the beginning. We can’t wait for you to see how much the world has grown.
If you haven't already, drop us a review on Steam and come hang out with us on Discord.

The Runeborn Team
We’ve been heads-down working hard on Runeborn’s 1.0 build, polishing systems, adding more content and improving balance. We want our final release to feel just right.
With that in mind: the 2025 Steam Awards are live, and we’d love it if you’d consider voting for Runeborn in the “Sit Back and Relax” category.
Why “Sit Back and Relax”? Runeborn isn’t just about challenging roguelike runs. We hope it becomes one of those games you come back to when you just want to unwind and enjoy the flow.
If you’ve enjoyed the game now or during early access, your vote would mean a lot. Thanks for being part of our journey 🙏

What an incredible first week it’s been. Runeborn officially launched into Early Access, and the response has been beyond anything we could have hoped for. We’ve been listening, patching, and chatting nonstop, and we wanted to take a moment to share some highlights and updates.
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The Discord pop-up after each run caused quite an uproar, definitely more than we expected! We understand how disruptive it felt, and we’ve heard you loud and clear.
We’ve since released a patch that makes it appear only once, so you’ll never see it again after dismissing it. That said… we’d still love for you to join us on Discord and say hello! 😉
Speaking of Discord, we recently hit over 500 members! The conversations, bug reports, and suggestions have been incredible. Our dev team is actively reviewing feedback and already implementing many of your ideas and fixes.
Your input is helping shape Runeborn in real time, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
We’ve released two quick hotfixes on Friday and another on Saturday, mainly addressing softlock issues during Malakar fights and a few other edge cases. We also dropped our first larger patch last week. Check out the patch notes from Thursday's 0.6.91 patch. Thanks to everyone who reported these quickly; it helped us immediately push out fixes.
We’re thrilled to share some early stats from launch week:
421 peak concurrent players
4,500 daily active users
103 positive reviews earning Very Positive status
The average total coin value on a Run success is 496.6 coins
Otherwise, win or lose, the average total coin value is 174.6 coins
On average, if they're spending coins, most players will spend around 8 coins per shop
Most players will die on Level 6 (12,443 times), second most on Level 10 (7,890)
A total of 49 players died on Level 1... somehow
Most players will reach their first run win within 2 or 3 runs
The most-destroyed rune element is Dark at 167,315 times. Surprisingly, the least-destroyed element (excluding Wilds) is Lightning at 63,865
The most prolific trinket in a winning inventory would be Copycat at 2,455, second-most is Executioner at 2,079 and Primrose Medallion at third with 1,667
We found most players skipped the tutorial at Steps 11 and 14: the Trinket Swap and Level Select steps. Yappa yappa...
Most players will lose a fight within ~27% of the enemy's HP, except at level 14, where it's at 19%
The most chosen enemy is the Carbuncle at 85.05%, the most chosen elite is Gunkor at 63.66%
The least chosen enemy is the Pincer at 14.89%, the least chosen elite is Klepta at 41.74%
Out of 724 attempts, there have been 22 successful Edition 8 runs! That's around 3.03%!
Seeing so many of you diving into runs, experimenting with builds, and sharing screenshots has been amazing.
To everyone who purchased the game, thank you! Your support means everything to our small team. And for anyone still on the fence, our 30% launch discount is live until Oct 23rd. There’s never been a better time to jump in and see what Runeborn is all about.
We’ve got more updates coming soon (and some exciting surprises on the horizon 👀). In the meantime, thank you for playing, testing, and helping us make Runeborn the best it can be.

The Runeborn Team
We've been gathering feedback from everyone over the past week and have a long list of improvements coming in the future. One of our top priorities is looking at our enemies and how to make them more interesting, less RNG-heavy, and less stale. We've already started addressing some of the easier feedback in this patch.
Quality of Life
Increased max animation speed from x4 -> x8
Updated Locked Books tooltip to tell you the actual unlock condition and your current progress
Added Rune Order to the Rune Inventory Screen
Updated all Scroll View sensitivity to be consistent and less sensitive
Level End and Start Animations now use Animation Speed, which includes:
Meditation and Cast refresh orb animations
Boss Trinket Slot reward animation
Malakar's Ambush animation
Boss Ability Changed animations
Elite and Boss Chest animations
Big Win Banner/Total Damage banner animations
Coin reward animations delay between each coin particle
Coin Reward animations have been optimized for coins beyond 20 to use an instant burst of coins rather than showing your coin rewards individually (Thanks, JapeD).

Thank you to everyone who supported our launch day. We've received great feedback, found bugs, and heard some uproar about our Discord pop-up. We've updated it so that you'll only see it once, and then it's gone.
Personal Leaderboard entries should now have the proper localized date
The Discord pop-up will only be shown once (starting with this patch) and then will be disabled afterwards

The team at iDream Interactive is already at work on the next big update, Echoes of Fate, coming in November.
We’ve prepared a roadmap so you can get a better overview of what’s coming in the next few months of this Early Access. We’ll keep updating it as things progress:
First, a big shout-out to the team at iDream Interactive for their hard work and dedication, and a huge thank you to all beta testers, wishlisters, and everyone who supported the game development along the way.
It’s just the beginning of the adventure, and we need you more than ever during Early Access to help us polish the game as much as possible!

A massive thank you to our publishers, Goblinz Publishing and Astrolabe, for their support with translations and for helping us expand globally.
Our closed beta testers have been incredible. They have helped us find and squash countless bugs while giving us critical feedback on balance and design. Your efforts are shaping Runeborn into the best version of itself, and we couldn’t do it without you.
Thanks to our partners at Astrolabe, Runeborn was represented at some of the most significant gaming events of the summer:

July has been another incredible month for Runeborn—full of events, testing, new features, and community conversations that are shaping the future of the game. Here’s a look at everything that’s been happening behind the scenes (and in person!).
We kicked off July with an in-person pre-launch party at WindsorEats, hosted by our friends at WeTech Alliance, and it was a smashing success! It was amazing to meet some of you face-to-face, share early builds, and celebrate how far we’ve come. The energy in the room was incredible—thank you to everyone who came out!
We’ve been testing new runebooks, tweaking their balance, and seeing how they shake up runs. We’re also developing new amulets and auras to add even more depth and variety.
We’re rewriting our save/load system from the ground up to ensure a smoother and more consistent experience. We’ve also made tons of quality-of-life updates, like adding titles and descriptions to empty trinket and scroll slots, plus exploring new ways to speed up gameplay for those who like to go fast.
We’re continuing to polish the game’s look and feel:
Updating scroll and trinket artwork
Reworking UI elements (shop designs, new run screens, and maybe even the rune inventory!)
Adding more sound effects and music for bosses to make battles even more epic
We’ve updated our localization tooling so we can easily improve translations and keep them up-to-date as new features roll out. This should help us deliver more accurate language support moving forward.
We’ve teamed up with Oncade, a platform that allows influencers to earn commissions for promoting Runeborn. This means more content creators will share their runs and show off creative builds—perfect for spreading the word!
We’ve fixed dozens of bugs, improved stability, and even started prototyping new ideas and concepts that we’re still testing internally. No spoilers yet, but we’re excited about what’s cooking!
As always, we want to thank you for your amazing support and the lively conversations on Discord. Your feedback, bug reports, and screenshots keep us motivated every day. If you haven’t joined yet, come say hello and share a screenshot of your best run!
We know many of you are asking about a release date. We’re not quite ready to lock one in yet—but we promise we’ll keep you posted. Thank you for being patient as we continue polishing the game. We want to launch with our best foot forward, and your support helps us get there.
Stay sharp—and stay Runeborn.
– The Runeborn Team
June was a massive month for Runeborn, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the amazing support we’ve received. From Steam Next Fest to your bug reports and feedback, the community has truly shown up. Let’s take a look at what happened—and what’s coming next.
First off, thank you to everyone who played the demo, streamed it, and shared your feedback during Steam Next Fest. We saw an incredible surge of interest, and your support means the world to our small team.
With thousands of new players jumping into the demo, we’ve had the chance to learn a lot:
Machine-translated languages need love. Many of you pointed out inconsistencies and errors in our AI-assisted translations. Thanks for your patience—we’re working on improving them.
Too much RNG? A lot of players mentioned that the randomness can sometimes get in the way of planning. We hear you.
More music & sound effects. We need to add more BGM variety and improved SFX.
Punchier animations. It is recommended that we add more punch to our animations, especially when getting a 4 or 5 match.
Speed controls. You want more granular controls for animation/retriggering speeds.
Replayability is strong. Despite that, the demo's variety and depth are keeping players coming back for more.
Art & polish are hitting home. We've received tons of praise for the look and feel of the game—thank you!
Our focus is now fully on building out the Early Access version of Runeborn. Here’s what’s in progress:
Town Between Chapters: We’re adding a new town area between chapters where you’ll have access to all shop types. This should ease some of the RNG frustrations and give you more control over your builds.
Runebooks: We're testing 3-5 new Runebooks for our Early Access build.
Bug Fixes & Balance Updates: We’re digging into all the issues you reported and continuing to tune the game for a smoother experience.
Special shoutout to everyone who used the F2 bug reporting tool—those reports have been incredibly helpful.
Our Discord has been buzzing with awesome suggestions, especially around new trinket ideas and gameplay tweaks. Keep them coming—we’re listening!
Huge thanks to Olexa for featuring Runeborn again on YouTube. That video has over 48,000 views, and we’ve welcomed many new faces since then. If you're one of them, welcome to the community! 👋
That’s it for now. We’ve got some exciting stuff in the works, and we’ll be sharing more sneak peeks as we get closer to Early Access.
Thanks again for playing, for testing, for sharing your ideas, and for being part of the journey. Stay sharp—and stay Runeborn.

We’re back with another big update for the Runeborn demo (0.5)—and this one’s all about opening the gates to more players, improving the experience, and making each run feel better paced and more rewarding. Let’s dive in!
Runeborn is now playable in nine additional languages: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Spanish.
We worked with professional translators for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese to ensure high-quality localization.
The remaining languages were translated using machine translation and AI assistance. While we’ve done our best to polish them, they might not be perfect—please let us know if you spot anything off!
We’re also officially launching in Asian markets on June 5th, 2025. Welcome to all our new players—we’re thrilled to have you on this journey!
You asked, we listened. Runeborn now has partial controller support for Xbox, PlayStation, and other modern gamepads.
It also runs great on Steam Deck so you can take your roguelike deckbuilding on the go.
To celebrate all the improvements and our global rollout, we’ve released a brand-new launch trailer! It features updated gameplay and new trinket art—perfect for sharing with a friend who’s curious about the game.
Let us know what you think—we’re proud of how far Runeborn has come!
We’re excited to announce that Runeborn will be part of Steam Next Fest, starting June 9th!
This is your chance to jump into the updated demo, experience all the latest changes, and share your feedback with us.
We’ll be hanging out during the event, streaming gameplay, answering questions, and talking with the community. Be sure to stop by our store page and join the fun!
With the addition of Chapter 3 in Early Access, we noticed that complete runs were starting to feel like a slog, especially once Chapter 4 entered the mix. To keep runs engaging and rewarding:
Chapters have been shortened from 9 levels to 7.
This change keeps the pacing tight and lets players reach elite and boss rewards more frequently.
To compensate, we’ve increased the difficulty of the first three levels, so your journey still starts with a challenge.
Over 100 trinkets have received updated artwork to better match their theme and rarity.
Tooltips got a visual facelift, making it easier to quickly parse important info mid-run.
And to spice up boss encounters, we’ve added a new effect for each boss—see if you can spot them!
What we're dubbing "Hot Trinkets" - a new visual way to see how much a Trinket is contributing towards your Cast
We’ve squashed dozens of bugs and made various under-the-hood improvements.
Full patch notes are below.
