We have a beta for the new version of the game available. Along with a move from Godot 3 to 4, many systems of the game have been overwritten, so anyone who moves over will have to start a new save from scratch.
If you want to try it out early: Go to properties>Game Versions & Betas. Type code: SecondEdition into the Private versions and press Check Code. You can now join “beta_closed” version and try out the new features.
For the rest of you, please finish up your campaigns. Relatively soon this will be the official version of the game.
Second Edition Rules
Rogue Dungeon now plays by Second Edition rules:
Difficulty is now "Advantage." Instead of stat tweaks, difficulty gives you more dice: Easy rolls 3 and you keep one, Medium rolls 2, Hard rolls 1. New games default to Medium.
Spend XP anytime, even mid-combat.
Level 5 monsters drop 2 loot cards.
You no longer have to resolve every red room on Level 5.
Used class skills can be repurchased by spending XP.
New Modes & Features
True Rogue Mode: An opt-in permadeath campaign for players who want real stakes. Fallen heroes are gone for good, and difficulty is locked to Hard. Chosen once, no take-backs.
25 Steam Achievements: A full set to earn across single runs and the campaign.
Flee Combat: Outmatched? Attempt to escape. Roll to evade each monster individually, or sacrifice loot to improve your odds of getting away.
New Autosave System: The game now saves automatically as you play.
Steam Cloud Saves: Your progress syncs across machines, including the Steam Deck.
Combat & Dice
Optimal Die Highlight: On Medium and Easy, the best die to keep is marked for you while you learn the ropes.
Attack Damage Breakdown: Right-click your Damage stat to see exactly what is capping your damage, matching weapons or your lowest ability, so you know what to improve.
New Player Experience
Rebuilt Tutorial: The old upfront walkthrough is gone. Short tips now appear the first time you actually encounter something: a risky roll, a usable item, a new mechanic. Reset them anytime from Settings.
Quality of Life
"Single Run" menu: New Game and Continue are unified in one clear prompt.
Bigger card zoom when inspecting cards. Text is far easier to read.
Clearer dual-effect weapons: Weapons with two effects now show you the choice up front.
