https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/4128336/5b629ce88c1e35fff99297abe268cfc2421b9ead.jpgHello everyone and welcome to Dev Diary #2 for the upcoming Risk of Rain 2 DLC: Hallowed Concepts.
In today’s sneak peek we’ll be looking at the two new item tiers being introduced: Hexes and Hallowed items. Before all that.. hold on..
… I can hear her voice…
… N’Kuhana is granting me a vision…
… I can see.. I can’t believe it…. It's you!! And you’re wishlisting Hallowed Concepts right now!!
Weshan!
In Dev Diary #1 we talked about the design goals for the DLC and how we want players to earn power via greater challenges in this update, and the new item tiers are no exception!
The two tiers are tied at the hip, in order to get the unique benefits of the Hallowed items, you’ll have to endure the pain and suffering of the Hexes.
Let’s start with the 10 Hexes.
Hexes are items that only have one purpose - to make your life harder. They come with a range of negative effects with ZERO upsides…
Take the Hex of Strife. Teased at the end of the last Dev Diary this Hex gives the teleporter 1 Shrine of the Mountain effect, without the extra rewards. No bonus item, just bonus pain in the shape of bigger, badder bosses.
Now let's consider the Hex of Blindness. You like being able to see the stage while playing Risk of Rain right? Seeing where chests are, scouting for distant shrines, anticipating attacks from that Elder Lemurian running at you from miles away. Great stuff.
How would you like to not do those things? Sounds PRETTY INCONVENIENT to me dude. Well, the Hex of Blindness limits your vision to just 96 meters, shrouding the rest of the stage in utter darkness.
But why? WHY would you even pick up these nefarious knickknacks?
Have you not been paying attention? The 11 Hallowed Items, obviously.
We’ll be keeping the exact method a secret for now, but during your run you will discover the ability to rid yourself of these Hexes in exchange for Hallowed Items.
Hallowed items are some of the most unique and strongest items in the game. Take the Infernal Mark for example.
Going through the pain of a Hex or two will be well worth it with this Hallowed gift - attacking an enemy gives a chance to apply a Soul Brand. Soul Branded monsters draw attention from any enemy near them and have friendly fire enabled, allowing the beasts of Petrichor V to do your dirty work for you.
Alternatively, you may be lucky enough to discover the Dream Crucible. When you have one of these Hallowed Items in your inventory you have a chance, once per stage, that when another item goes on cooldown, or is consumed, that the Dream Crucible will be consumed instead.
Mega band proc? Double Dios? Saved Watches? All possible! This is the perfect DLC to introduce this item as it even works with the N’tormat pages we revealed in the previous Dev Diary allowing you to use them more than once per stage!
We can't wait for you to discover the other Hexes and Hallowed items included in the DLC. Join us next time when we’ll be showing off some of the unique Trial stages coming in Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts.
Thanks again! Bye for now.
- The Risk of Rain Team
Hello everyone! Welcome to the first Dev Diary for Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts.
In Hallowed Concepts players will explore Risk of Rain’s dark underbelly and the insidious cult of N’Kuhana whose stolen relic comes at a hefty price.
In today’s Dev Diary we’ll be looking at
The content scope of Hallowed Concepts
How that content is shaped by the design goals of the DLC
And finally we’ll take a look at one of the key features of the update: The N’tormat.
Much like N'kuhana, my dark knowledge also comes at a price… a price paid in wishlists. Please head on over to the Hallowed Concepts Steam Page and give it a wishlist.
Alright, now that you’ve done that you’re ready to read the sacred text of this Dev Diary…
Hallowed Concepts is shaping up to be our most distinct DLC yet. It brings with it a lineup of content unlike anything we’ve done before. Some elements will feel familiar, while others push into entirely new territory for Risk of Rain. So what can you expect?
2 New Survivors.
Several New Trial Stages with multiple objective variants including a “Boss Rush” Trial
3 New Standard Stages.
3 New Bosses.
4 New Enemies.
2 New Item Types
10 of one type…
11 of the other… (more on these another time)
3 New Standard Items (one lunar equipment item, two boss items)
New Unlockable Survivor Skins for Commando, Huntress, Bandit, MUL-T, Engineer, Artificer, REX, Loader, Mercenary, Acrid, Captain, Railgunner, Void Fiend, Seeker, False Son & CHEF* (16 total)
1 New Elite Type.
New Interactables.
New Music by DLC3 composer Stavros Markonis.
New Secrets.
One new “Curio”: The N’tormat.
* Developer Note: We heard your feedback loud and clear that you’d like skins for Survivors from previous DLC too. In Hallowed Concepts not only will all the base game survivors be getting a skin each, all the DLC1 and DLC2 Survivors will be too!
Psst, here’s a preview of one of those skins because you were cool and wishlisted earlier:
To learn more about the Hallowed Concepts content let's dive into some of our design goals for the DLC.
Throughout the previous three DLCs we’ve dished out player power with minimal challenge involved. Void Cradles & Seeds, Halcyon Shrines, Computational Exchange & Drone buffs all give you large power boosts with relatively minor and/or temporary setbacks. These often allow you to continue your runs with significantly more power in return. There are a number of reasons for this, not least of which - it's fun!
In Hallowed Concepts we wanted to push a lot further on both sides of that deal. We’re going to give you the option to steal huge amounts of power, but we wanted to balance that with increasingly dangerous threats and challenges. We also wanted to do this in a way that’s more integrated into your existing runs rather than being funneled into a new DLC path.
To steal the dark power of N’Kuhana you’ll have to
Complete the Wake Event
Access the Trials
Discover Shrines of Compulsion & their unique challenges.
Obtain the N’tormat and gather pages.
& More
These features each come with benefits and setbacks, all of which will be appreciated more if we keep them secret and you discover them for yourself! But this is a Dev Diary, of course we’re going to give you a peek…
For starters, let's talk about the N’tormat itself. The best way to describe this Curio is as new special equipment (which doesn't take up your normal equipment slot) which starts with a single ability that can be used once per stage. Throughout your run by interacting with DLC4 exclusive content you can gain extra pages each with a powerful new ability.
One such power is Dark Alchemy. This allows you to target a high-tier item and DESTROY IT. Great stuff, really pat ourselves on the back for that one. Of course, there is a benefit for this act of item violence - the item is downgraded to a lower tier, but duplicated!
Another power you can obtain is Fanatic Summons. By now you must have seen the Lynx Tribe enemies coming in the DLC - how would you like a friendly pet Lynx Pup? How would you like… AN ARMY OF THEM?
But I hear you saying, “wait a second… if these new fangled ‘pages’ are so strong, what are these ‘dangerous threats’ you keep talking about to balance it out?”
We have some wild things in store - but those are for another day… alright, here’s just one:
Thank you very much for checking out this first Dev Diary for Hallowed Concepts, don’t forget to go and wishlist over on the new Steam Page. We’ll see you next time!
Bye for now!

Thanks again everyone for the amazing reception for Alloyed Collective, today we have a big ol’ update for Risk of Rain 2 which includes a bunch of fixes, updates and balance changes.
For our Nintendo Switch fans the changes in this patch will be built into the day 1 release of the Switch version which is due in Q1 2026 (we’ll get it to you as fast as possible!)
This is the only planned update to Alloyed Collective but that doesn't mean you shouldn't report any issues to us - we can always include any fixes into future releases… our plans for Risk of Rain 2 are far, far from over.
Note: There are Alloyed Collective spoilers in these notes!
Solus Heart base health increased by 25% from 6000 -> 7500 and base damage increased (from 10 to 11.)
Alloy Hunter base health increased by 20% from 3000 -> 3600.
Solus Wing weak points take 25% less damage from proc chains.
Solus Wing weak points now have half the adaptive armor (we fixed an issue where they unintentionally had 2x adaptive armor.)
Damage shared from Networked Suffering reduced from 50% - > 45%
Best Buddy will now ignore the ally cap and always spawn when collecting the Orphaned Core.
A Drifter repossessing another Drifter in multiplayer who is encumbered by having already repossessed a heavy object will now correctly inherit being encumbered.
Solus Wing’s logbook no longer drops from the boss - can you find it??
Community Manager Note: HUGE NERF - Players failing to grab it under dying Wing was the best thing in the DLC.
Warbonds now work with Pocket ICBM (but is intentionally not as large an increase as stacking multiple Warbonds.)
Repossess no longer generates scrap when damaging a Junk Cube.
Increased Tornado Slam’s damage from 170% -> 220% and increased final hit damage from 400% -> 600%, and greatly increased junk production.
Ending Tornado Slam early by jumping no longer consumes a jump.
Solus Distributor spawning cooldown increased from 10 -> 11 and mine health 60 -> 20
Added custom pickup highlights for Boss, Void, and Food items.
Shrine of the Mountain will correctly spawn on Conduit Canyon when the Artifact of Prestige is active.
When Artifact of Prestige is active the visual indicator on the Mountain Shrine and Teleporter is now pink.
Community Manager Note: As it was written, so shall it be done.
Equipment (Regular and Lunar) now get highlights when picked up.
"Follower" type item displays now get highlighted when picked up (for example Focused Convergence, Tricorn's ghostly gun etc.)
Mithrix now has item displays for Boss tier and DLC items (he only had the little spikes in him for base game items.)
Mithrix can use Meal Items (except Sautéed Worms, that would be insane.)
Gold obtained by Solus Extractor while holding a Roll of Pennies will no longer transfer to the player.
Solus Heart loot pool has been updated to include Hardlight Afterburner, Orphaned Core and Spare Drone Parts.
Conduit Canyon's "Intrusion Detected" line is now pink to match with other world event messages.
Alloy Hunter's message when spawning is correctly labeled as her speaking.
Collective Elites now have their shield bubble temporarily disabled after being dealt damage, and damage against the shield is labelled as “Immune” to better communicate the lack of damage. We have also updated the visuals of the bubble to reduce visual clutter.
Solus Scorchers now have a glassy material on their tank.
Pocket ICBM now affects Missile Drones when Operator uses Admin-Override.
Prison Matrix and Longstanding Solitude are now properly disabled when hit with an item-disabling attack.
Umbra of MUL-T event on Solutional Haunt can now only be triggered by a live player and not any Remote Operated drones by dead players.
Fixed Solus Wing’s corpse being cleaned up by Cleanup Drones, soft-locking the run.
Multiple instances of brief framerate “hitches” fixed across all platforms.
Fixed rare instances of Repossess splitting multi-option interactables (such as Multi-Shops) into separate parts.
Repossess will now correctly only highlight the base of a targeted Multi-Shop. Additionally some objects with tiny or seemingly missing highlights should now correctly display the targeting highlight.
Certain purchased Drones should no longer get stuck when thrown off cliffs using Repossess.
Tougher Times, Mired Urn & Meal-Tier items can now be placed in the Shrine of Rebirth.
Removed instances of Drifter’s Junk Cube VFX remaining after being destroyed, primarily on XBOX.
On XBOX Solus Amalgamators that are killed almost instantly on spawning will correctly despawn during multiplayer
Drifter will now correctly knock back enemies when using Tornado Slam in multiplayer.
Voidsent Flame will correctly proc itself when the explosion hits full health enemies.
Hiker’s Boots on hit bonus is now guaranteed when hitting enemies from a higher elevation and is no longer affected by proc coefficient.
The additional COMMAND text when buying a Drone as Operator will no longer display when using alt-secondary ability CMD-SWARM.
Solus Amalgamator can now spawn as a teleporter boss on Iron Aroras (loop variant) without requiring a Node to be activated.
Missile and Strike Drone propellers are correctly animated in both gameplay and when viewed in the Logbook.
There are no longer any incorrect fight-starting triggers on Solutional Haunt outside of entering the tunnel.
Longstanding Solitude should no longer increase the amount of Lunar Coins required to interact with Lunar Buds.
Price of a chest will no longer appear when pinged while holding Longstanding Solitude.
Operator no longer gains extra stacks of Bolstering Lantern when using ADMIN-OVERRIDE.
Bolstering Lantern will now correctly give its buff when collected while enemies/allies are already within the buff zone.
Engi Turrets now correctly display the cute antennae when holding the Collective Elite aspect “Of One Mind.”
Best Buddy and Solus Invalidator’s hanging cables should have the correct degree of floppyness now.
False Son’s Club of the Forsaken now has the correct description.
Xi Construct should no longer become unaligned with its various parts when playing at high FPS levels.
Networked Suffering gives kill credit to the character that applied the debuff, correctly granting money and exp, as well as activating on kill effects
Fixed issue where picking up a single temporary item would sometimes incorrectly state that the player collected 2 items
Item displays are no longer removed when your items are disabled (you still have them, they just don't work!)
Functional Coupler no longer drops all extra equipments when your items are disabled.
Functional Coupler’s equipment slots no longer have their cooldown reset when your items are disabled.
Fixed the equipment cooldown timer briefly being incorrect when being un-Item Disabled
Consumable equipments are correctly consumed when used with an empty bonus equipment slot from Functional Coupler (no more infinity Engi turrets, exploit enjoyers.)
Fixed certain items (H3AD-5T v2, Resonance Disk, Mired Urn, and Neutronium Weight) not working on Operator after stage transition
Added item displays for Box of Dynamite and Spare Drone Parts to Best Buddy and Empathy Cores.
Drifter's Bludgeon (Primary while an object is in her bag) no longer occasionally misses damaging objects in the bag with high attack speed.
Tweaked the slam animation of Drifter's Bludgeon to no longer have the bag phase through her.
Tweaked Drifter's jump animation to fix her arms suddenly lurching forward.
Fixed Repossess not being able to throw characters correctly in Solutional Haunt.
Fixed some of Operator's queued drones not being Repossess-able.
Fixed Droneboy's hat appearing when Repossessed, along with several other visual bugs with other objects being held in the sack.
Temporary Item Distributor's smoke VFX remains attached to the model when thrown via Repossess.
Fixed a bug where Drifter's Junk Cube wouldn't always spawn a cube if too close to some objects.
Void and Food “Command” pickups had their VFX updated to better match items of their tier.
Many items, equipment, enemies, drones, and stages had their logbook previews adjusted to better frame them.
Fixed some missing periods, spaces, as well as extra periods and spaces across several item descriptions in the logbook.
Fixed some phrasing inconsistencies related to health regeneration - all effects that scale with level are now written as "base health regeneration."
Fixed Railgunner's M99 Sniper’s Active Reload description incorrectly describing the bonus damage on a perfect reload as 100%, instead of 500%.
Fixed False Son’s Club of the Forsaken having incorrect damage values for Xbox.
Reduced the recoil of Operator’s H3-11 OCR Custom when fired at non-full stocks.
Objectives are given more space depending on the length of their text, fixing overlapping and squished text in Conduit Canyon's objectives.
Fixed Safer Spaces' shield being wasted when hit while invulnerable (for example during Mercenary's Eviscerate.)
Ultimate Meal's buff disappears 3s after falling under full health instead of instantly, which significantly reduces the negative interaction between reduced healing effects, Ultimate Meal, and Growth Nectar.
Computational Exchange no longer has printers while Artifact of Command is enabled.
Wandering Chef can no longer be used to "duplicate" items that are corrupted into void items while the menu is open, due to exploits by Australian YouTubers - yet again.
Printers can no longer be used while items are disabled, fixing an issue that led to item duping.
Fixes an item duplication glitch relating to rescaling a disabled hud on console.
Fixed False Son’s Lunar Ruin and Networked Suffering causing Solus Wing to die extremely quickly after a weak point is defeated.
Alpha Constructs are correctly killed when thrown out of the map via Drifter's Repossess.
Amalgamator's broken hatches no longer have extremely bright internals.
Fixed Scrapper UI including temporary items in displayed item counts.
Fixed Collective Elites not having an elite icon.
Fixed Remote Caffeinator’s flare VFX being oversized.
Added an extra jump pad to Conduit Canyon’s first section.
False Son (Boss) should be better at targeting players.
Fireworks should no longer clip into Best Buddy when interacted with.
Fixed many items and equipment not being dithered when near the camera.
Now only gold-orb Halcyon Shrines spawn after killing False Son when looping.
Prismatic Trials will now start with the correct player spawn animation. Cabbage is over the moon.
Made slight alteration to the Sautéed Worms log entry as to not contradict existing lore. Grovetender is over the moon.
Under rare circumstances you could die during the “decompiling scene” when you’ve accepted Solus Heart’s offer - this no longer occurs.
Hello!
Thanks to everyone who has played and left reviews for Alloyed Collective! We rocketed up to the top rating on Steam of OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE which is an amazing result for any game, so thank you very much!
Earlier this year we have also released three improvement phases for the Seekers of the Storm DLC which pushed the recent reviews for that DLC up to Very Positive - Overall it's been a fantastic year for Risk of Rain 2 and we couldn't have done it without you all!
Now through December 1 at 10AM PT, we invite anyone who’s joined us on the journey to continue to make improvements and additions to Risk of Rain 2 to nominate it for Labor of Love n the 2025 Steam Awards. And if you haven’t had a chance to try out the latest addition to Risk of Rain 2, check out Alloyed Collective now:
Added purchasable DLC3 “Alloyed Collective” Content: (more specifics at bottom of the page)
2 New Survivors: Operator (unlocked by default) and Drifter (unlockable)
6 New Enemies.
7 New Drones.
18 New Items.
7 New Stages (plus 1 night/loop variant.)
New Interactables.
2 New Teleporter Bosses.
New Final Boss.
& New Secrets!
A more detailed breakdown of the new content is in the spoiler section of these update notes down below - however we have been careful to hide some very cool stuff during the promotion of this DLC and I highly recommend you just jump in and discover the new content yourself!
These changes are for all versions of Risk of Rain 2 and are not dependent on owning Alloyed Collective!
Remote Operation Added - When you die in multiplayer you can take control of an Ally Drone until you are revived by stage transition (or by other means such as Seeker’s Meditate.)
Drone AI has been significantly improved making them focus fire on your target & follow you closely when not attacking. They have also had their base health regen increased & now have damage reduction against Void Fog & Grandparent's AOE attack.
The TC-280 Prototype, along with the above benefits, has also had its damage, armor & health increased.
Drones are now 33% cheaper to repair when destroyed.
Strike Drones (summoned from The Back-up equipment) now scale with level like the other Drones, as well as having their speed and regen increased.
Survivors of the Void Item “Spare Drone Parts” stats reduced by 50%
Developer Note: Spare Drone Parts (SDP) was initially balanced around the fact that drones used to be pretty ineffective combat allies - even so SDP was considered to be one of the strongest items in the game. With the new drones, increased drone acquisition and new drone AI in DLC3, SDP would essentially play the game for you and almost always guarantee a (pretty boring) win, so we have decided to reduce its effectiveness by 50% - SDP is still an extremely powerful item and we’ll keep a close eye on community feedback and sentiment regarding this change.
Barrier now decays exponentially rather than flat, meaning the lower the amount of Barrier you have, the slower it will tick down.
Community Manager note: Aegis buff in the big ‘25 wtf??
Chests and Printers now use their previous ping icon.
Reduced the spawn cost of Shrine of Shaping to lessen the impact it has on spawning other interactables on the stage.
Reduced the spawn cost of Geeps and Gips so they should be more common on the stages they naturally spawn on.
Void Seeds can no longer spawn Voidtouched Solus Monsters.
CHEF’s returning cleavers no longer have a higher than intended proc rate (but Boosted / Yes Chef Cleavers have retained the higher proc rate.)
Fixed rare issue where stages could infinitely repeat.
You will now be able to obtain the Treeborn Colony/Golden Dieback log if you have already obtained the Aphelian Sanctuary log.
The audio for THE FINAL BOSS’S pizza attack is now properly synced.
Xi Construct mega laser will now correctly cause an explosion when it ends.
Re-added dithering to characters when very close to the camera.
Artificer’s Nano-Spear will no longer push enemies around.
Mercenary no longer sometimes takes fall damage when using Whirlwind.
Scrappers now play correct audio (and not only when MUL-T is in the session.)
Added missing Void Item drop sound.
Added missing Royal Capacitor and Charged Perforator sound.
H3AD-5T v2 is no longer able to multiply velocity in unintended ways (such as pressing jump on a Geyser launching you into the sky.)
Elite On Death effects now occur when Ghosts from Happiest Mask expire.
War Bond Missiles now “cost” the correct amount of gold.
Alpha Constructs from Defense Nucleus now use the proper skin.
Seeker’s Unseen Hand now correctly highlights Void Enemies.
Removed False Son being in the logbook for non DLC2 owners.
Returned the Bazaar Diorama to the Logbook.
We have at least one patch planned post-release for DLC3 which will address bugs that we’ve identified after we submitted our release builds, as well as any bugs and balance changes needed following community feedback.
If you have feedback you’d like considered for this patch, please let us know on our Discord.
Drifter’s ability “Repossess” can sometimes (however, quite rarely) allow you to push yourself through terrain.
Various minor issues with Repossess (such as Lt Droneboy’s hat being visible outside of the bag once you grab it) to be addressed. Repossess is probably the most complex ability ever added to the game and as such requires a little post-release fine tuning. Let us know what weird stuff you find!
We may have fixed the Scrapper audio... but we broke the animation (oops.) Fix inbound in the next patch!
Various platform-specific performance optimizations are planned for the next patch.

Welcome to the 4th and final pre-release Devlog for Alloyed Collective - before we take a closer look at Drifter and her abilities let’s get into that release info you’ve all been patiently waiting for.
Alloyed Collective will release on the 18th November 2025, for the same cost as the previous DLCs at an SRP of $14.99 in the USA (as far as regional prices - whatever the SRP that Seekers of the Storm is in your location right now, that’s the price Alloyed Collective will be!)
Is it worth wishlisting Alloyed Collective now you know when the release date is? ABSOLUTELY, DO IT RIGHT NOW so you know the INSTANT it's dropped!
A quick note for our Nintendo Switch players — the team has a couple additional improvements we want to make before releasing Alloyed Collective on Switch. Unfortunately, those changes couldn’t be completed in time for our original target, so the Switch version will arrive a bit later.
Alloyed Collective will launch on PC & both generations of Xbox and PlayStation on November 18, with the Nintendo Switch release date to be confirmed once we’ve completed the final round of optimizations.
Introduced in Risk of Rain Returns, Drifter is making the leap into 3D landing with the best of her Brawler-Support kit from Returns. But worry not, there will also be some brand new exciting additions to her kit - the likes of which we’ve never seen in Risk of Rain before, and probably thought we never would!
Key to mastery of Drifter and her abilities is managing her unique resource: Scrap Junk. Yea... so we were gonna call it scrap like in Returns. But scrap is already a thing in ROR2. So it’s junk now, just go with it… Generated by attacking enemies, Junk litters the battlefield until you collect it, it’s up to you to choose if you use it up quickly to empower your attacks - or max out the meter, unlocking the full potential of Drifter's most powerful abilities.
Her most reliable source of Junk is her primary attack Blunt Force.
With Blunt Force Drifter does a triple-melee-swing with her massive sack dealing 170% damage per swipe. The third attack in the sequence is a larger 350% damage slam which also stuns enemies. Each one of these attacks has a chance of beating some junk out of your foe.
There are some more special features of Blunt Force. But they involve her other abilities so we’ll be talking about those as they come up further in the Dev Diary. One such interaction involves her unlockable Secondary attack…
Usually in these Dev Diaries I focus on the Survivor’s base kit and let you discover the unlockable skills for yourself, but with it being a fan favorite from Returns and being featured so prominently in the reveal trailer how could I not switch things up and highlight her unlockable secondary ability: Junk Cube.
Slam down a huge cube of Junk for 400% damage which you can then whack with Blunt Force a further 3 times before the cube blows up for a final 800% damage.
You can even cast aside the laws of physics and ride the cube while you slap it with Blunt Force turning Drifter into a guided missile of death and destruction.
If you’ve got a lot of junk in the… uhhh… sack you can bypass the ability cooldown by consuming 4 Junk and immediately creating another Cube. This allows Drifter to turn her precious resource into multiple cubes of chaos (Patent Pending*).
Using Drifter’s brand new Utility ability Repossess you can even pick up the Junk Cube and throw it directly at your enemies. I wonder how many other objects you can pick up and throw using Repossess?
Yes. The answer is Yes.
She really can pick up and throw anything that isn't bolted down.
And even a few things that probably should be.
In fact, unless it would be completely gamebreaking (picking up the teleporter and throwing it off the stage would be questionable game design at best) chances are Drifter can Repossess it.
While being held in your bag your primary Blunt Force does additional damage based on the mass of the object you have held, and you gain additional Junk from killing enemies this way.
However EVERYTHING held has a health bar. Using blunt force repeatedly while holding the chest you promised to keep safe may not be a wise plan…
Some of the objects you can pick up even have unique interactions with enemies. For example if you lob a wisp at an enemy it’ll set that enemy on fire - but I won't spoil all of those interactions in this Dev Diary. Ok maybe one more.
We cannot wait to see the creativity the community uses with this ability to break the game in ways we've not even considered. A couple of my favorites include a pretty broken interaction involving one of Captain’s beacons…
And once during testing Bruno was taking his sweet time looting the stage so I relocated his Engi Turrets to the teleporter without him knowing…
And speaking of “helping” teammates, that leads us to the last ability we’ll be revealing - Salvage.
Drifter’s Special Ability Salvage is the one bit of her kit which has been essentially unchanged between Returns to Alloyed Collective. Once your Junk meter is 80% full you can consume it all and generate 4 temporary items.
Salvage is where the “Support” part of “Brawler-Support” comes into play - you can take all these items for yourself, or share them with your teammates - whether you like it or not.
“But Mr Community Manager man, doesn’t that mean temporary items are a new item type in the DLC that you’ve managed to deftly keep secret throughout these amazing Dev Diaries??”
It sure does Billy - and forcing your friends to play as Drifter so you can follow them around waiting for them to use Salvage is not the only way to get temporary items in Alloyed Collective.
Now we’re done with the final pre-release Dev Diary and we’re SO CLOSE to Alloyed Collective I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has followed along over the last few months. After seeing everyone’s reactions to the Seekers of the Storm post-release improvement phases and now seeing everyone get excited for Alloyed Collective- the whole team cannot wait for you to get your hands on the latest addition to Risk of Rain.
During these Dev Diaries I've showcased and previewed all the exciting content you’re used to: Survivors, Stages, Items, Enemies etc. There is, however, even more content in Alloyed Collective that we've not even hinted at. Systems, Stages, Encounters - There’s some amazing stuff in there that you 100% are not expecting that I am desperate to tell you about..
…but for the sake of your own ability to discover it all, I shall refrain. Just know it took a lot of effort to keep my big mouth shut.
Make sure you let us know what you think of Drifter and Alloyed Collective too when it's released on November 18th - the best place to do that is on our Discord.

*No of course we have not actually patented ‘cubes of chaos’
Welcome to the third Dev Diary for Alloyed Collective where you will be introduced to the latest Survivor on the roster for Risk of Rain 2: Operator.
With the new Drones being introduced with the DLC we wanted to design a Survivor that made the most of these new and improved battle companions. But don’t worry, Operator doesn’t just sit back and let the Drones take all the glory. Instead, he uses their abilities to enhance his own combat skills making this union of man and machine an agile powerhouse on the battlefield.
As always, you know the rules, before we get started head on over to the Alloyed Collective Steam page and wishlist that sucker! Seriously, I’ll wait… done? Okay, let’s keep going!
Although Operator arrives on the planet with 2 drones of his choice he’s certainly more than capable of defending himself without them. For starters, he has his primary: H3-11 OCR Custom pistol.
Like the majority of the primary attacks in the game you can just hold down the attack and let it do its thing. It does a respectable amount of damage and is more than capable of popping Wisps and dropping Lemurians. It even has an added bonus of each kill shot ricocheting to the enemy with the lowest health nearby dealing 75% of the bullet’s damage.
However, the truly big brain Survivors among you will let this primary stack up a bit. Each stack increases the damage of the shot and if you let it get the full 3 stacks it transforms the H3-11 OCR Custom into a deadly skill shot that would even leave Railgunner jealous.
A fully charged shot is highly accurate, does massive damage, and has no damage fall-off. That’ll allow the patient and skillful among you to turn Operator into a front-line sniper… and you didn't already forget about the ricochet did you??
Operator’s Utility Ability allows you to very rapidly navigate stages to press the advantage, escape danger, or just style on your enemies. Introducing: Ascent Protocol.
Command one of your Drones to boost you up into the air and clip on for a smooth descent back to the ground - all the while having full use of all of your other abilities letting you rain destruction from on high.
Operator might look diminutive but even the most hench of drones cant keep him in the skies forever. Luckily after a brief cooldown you can aim at one of your spare drones and re-activate the skill, leaping towards it and maintaining your flight even longer.
Operator never loses in a game of “the floor is lava.”
Operator doesn’t have to rely on his bullet ricochet to deal AOE damage to monsters. With his special ability Ejection Core he can overcharge a drone and yeet it at a group of his enemies to melt health bars and shred their defences.
Not only does the drone impact hit like a truck, it also launches enemies into the air and applies the Bugged debuff to them and stuns them while they are airborne. Any enemy with the Bugged debuff takes additional damage and their descent is slowed allowing you to continue pelting them with bullets even longer ramping up the hurt to ridiculous levels.
Just using your own attacks might let you get a couple of kills while using Ejection Core, but with the help of your Drones you can absolutely lay waste not only to Bugged enemies, but the entire ecosystem of Petrichor V…
You’ve probably noticed throughout this superbly written Dev Diary there's a little aiming reticle that keeps popping up on enemies. Well, that's not your target, it's your Drones’ target.
When using Operator’s secondary ADMIN-OVERRIDE you command your currently active Drone to attack its target with an ability which is different & unique to every Drone in the game, new and old.
This works in conjunction with his passive Drone Queue which cycles through your available Drones, including those purchased during your run, one by one, after using any of Operator’s Drone abilities.
For example the Healing Drone once activated both heals you AND gives you a temporary speed boost.
Some Drones have entirely new unique attacks, like the Bombardment Drone. This shocking addition dashes to your target and fires stunning chain lightning. That’ll make any affected enemies an easy target for its follow-up AOE bombardment attack.
But my favorite of the bunch is the good ol’ TC-280 Prototype which, on command, does a deadly strafing run that obliterates any targets in its path.
Each new Drone that you collect gives you an extra charge of this ability. So if you’ve got a tough teleporter event coming up you can save those charges up and on your command UNLEASH HELL WITH YOUR ARMY OF DRONES.
Operator also comes with a full suite of alternate abilities and starting Drones to choose from but I'll let you discover those for yourself when Alloyed Collective arrives later this year.
And now for a small bit of bad news: We don’t have a release date for you today.
I know many of you will have rocked up to this Dev Diary excited to see the release date for the DLC. But there are still a handful of things we want to sort out before we give you a date.
I announced in Dev Diary 2 that it was our goal to make Alloyed Collective the best addition to Risk of Rain ever, and in my humble opinion we are damn close to achieving that goal, we just need a little bit more time to get there. When we give you the date, we want it to be a cast-iron guarantee, but we can't do that today.
The good news is we’re still very much on track for a release later this year as promised. In the end we want the team to have the time they need to make DLC3 without having to crunch.
Again, our sincere apologies to everyone looking forward to that particular reveal today. We’ll share a date with everyone as soon as we’ve locked it in. - trust me when I say it will be worth the wait!
Operator is the first of two new Survivors coming in Alloyed collective, in the next Dev Diary we’ll be showing off the 2nd who is returning from a previous Risk of Rain game!
Let us know in the comment section who you hope it’ll be & head on over to the Alloyed Collective Steam page and give it a wishlist. We’ll see you again real soon!
Bye for now!

The 2K Summer Sale!
Hi hi!
By now you’ve probably seen the announcement for Alloyed Collective, our third expansion for Risk of Rain 2! Today, we’re going on a safari deep into the Solus-controlled regions of Petrichor V along with some very exciting news for fans of the series in this dev update. But before we crack on please head on over to the Alloyed Collective page and give it a wishlist!
I recommend watching the video Dev Diary above for all those juicy details you just can't capture in a written version!
We want to make Alloyed Collective the single best addition to Risk of Rain ever - and that is one hell of a high bar. But how are we even going to approach this lofty goal? There was only ever one answer: assemble the ULTIMATE RISK OF RAIN CONTENT TEAM.
Step 1: Hire some of the best content creators for Risk of Rain 2 to supplement the already very talented team at Gearbox Software. A key factor in Risk of Rain 2’s success has been its massive modding scene. It’s existed from the very start and has grown into a huge community of creators pumping out some amazing content. So we reached out to the creators behind some of our favorite mods like Starstorm 2, Fogbound Lagoon & SillyItems and brought on a squad of elite mod creators to join the DLC3 team (to be clear, their modded content is not contained in the DLC - they are working on NEW content!)
Step 2: Next we needed the perfect soundtrack. After his work on the Seekers of the Storm Shattered Abodes track “I Should Build the Man a Statue” we have brought the highly talented musician Stavros Markonis onto the Alloyed Collective team to compose the whole soundtrack. Stavros worked closely with Chris Christodoulou on DLC2 & DLC3 to nail that special Risk of Rain sound while adding his own unique flair - and to quote Chris directly when talking about the DLC3 soundtrack...
Real.
Step 3: On top of the modders and Stavros we’ve also brought on two people who have previously worked on Risk of Rain 2 to rejoin us on the DLC - firstly, prolific ROR1/ROR2 modder Sivelos who wrote the majority of the log entries for Risk of Rain 2. And lastly, one of the co-creators of Risk of Rain 2: Jeffrey “Ghor” Hunt has also rejoined the team for Alloyed Collective!
Tome Writer Extraordinaire. This talented new bunch, alongside the tenured team of developers we have here at Gearbox Software, has formed a team that we think will make Alloyed Collective best ever addition to Risk of Rain.
You may have seen the scope of Alloyed Collective in the previous Devlog, for those who missed it, here's what will be included in the upcoming DLC*
2 New Survivors
6 All-New Stages
6 New Enemies
15 New Items
New Bosses, including a new Final Boss encounter.
New Elite Type
New Survivor Skins
and..
7 New Drones
But why not drones!? One thing that might stand out compared to previous DLCs is the inclusion of 7 new Drones. With the technological theme of this DLC we thought it was high time this often-overlooked aspect of ROR2 was given a bit of love. Drones are a part of the game ripe for expansion - with the exception of Spare Drone Parts in SotV there have been zero changes to drones since the game launched!
Having a source of player-power that isn't item based allows us to design fun and powerful content for your runs without having to worry about excessively diluting the item pool. Some of these Drones bring mechanics we’ve been thinking about for a while. We wanted the gameplay they could bring to your kit but they never quite made sense as an item or player ability. Adding extra drones is a perfect opportunity to get some of these ideas into the game and into your hands.
We didn't stop with just adding new Drones, we’ve also improved the AI for all Drones to make them much more useful battle companions. Drones are now faster, copy their owner's target, and are generally just smarter/better at using their skills. They also move less erratically and stay closer to their target.
Finally, we wanted to put a real focus on Drones in Alloyed Collective by giving one of the new Survivors some special interactions with them - we’ll be revealing more about this drone-centric Survivor in an upcoming devlog…
I asked on the Risk of Rain Discord what aspect of the DLC people would like to see most in this dev update (other than the new Survivors.) Some said stages, some said enemies, others asked for Items and many asked for new Drones. Being a man of the people, I decided to give you a sneak-peak at all four.
First up we’re taking a visit to the Pretender’s Precipice where we’ll come face to face with the Solus Invalidator
This broken weirdo rolls around like a lost puppy looking to impress its bigger, nastier kin. But don’t be fooled, this unit has a unique attack which will be the downfall of the unprepared.
The Solus Invalidator overloads and fires a burst of energy so huge the unit is thrown across the stage with the recoil. Cute? Yes, but don’t get hit by this attack - doing so completely removes all item effects for a significant duration.
You’ll need some help defeating this new foe - or at least to avoid its attacks - The new Faraday Spurs will let you do both.
Once collected the Faraday Spurs will generate an electrical charge the longer that you sprint, increasing your speed and jump height up to +60% speed and +200% jump height when fully charged.
Once you are at least 25% charged you can jump, consume the charge, and unleash a huge explosive discharge for 400% damage making this uncommon item a great find for both mobility and offensive power.
Next up we’ll be heading to the Empyrean Adaments, where not all of the mining equipment is completely inactive…
This mean little ball of fury is not happy about the intruders to its resource-rich territory. Once you’re detected the Solus Cultivator locks in on your location before dashing at you with its drill-arm extended. Is it trying to kill you or simply extract your precious minerals? Who knows, either way it's not good news for the unwary survivor.
Luckily you have some new allies to aid you against the Alloyed Collective, and sometimes they synergize even better than items. Introducing the Freeze Drone and the Bombardment Drone.
We’re not always subtle when naming things for Risk of Rain 2; these two new Drones do exactly what their names suggest. The Freeze Drone fires a projectile that bounces between enemies up to 6 times applying the very powerful Freeze debuff to them. This sets up for the Bombardment Drone perfectly - hovering in place above its target and absolutely devastating any enemies below with a huge AOE damage.
We can't wait for you to play Alloyed collective later this year* and get your hands on what this new team has created! For now please don't forget to wishlist Alloyed Collective and we’ll see you again soon for the reveal of the first of two new Survivors.
Bye for now!

*Why are you looking at what this star says? You should already know a “subject to change” statement when you see one.
We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to leave a review for Seekers of the Storm following the completion of our overhaul roadmap. Seeing the shift in reception has been incredibly motivating for the entire team. The recent reviews are now sitting at Very Positive, and it’s been a joy reading your thoughts and feedback after all the changes we’ve made.
Even more exciting, the overall rating for the DLC has climbed up to Mixed, which is a major step forward from where we started. We know we had a lot to prove, and your support means the world as we keep pushing to make Risk of Rain 2 even better. We’re not slowing down - and your voices are helping us shape what’s next.
If you haven't had the chance to review Seekers of the Storm yet, we really want to know what you think! You can do so on the DLC page here:
We’re excited to reveal that the second Dev Diary for our upcoming DLC, Alloyed Collective, will be dropping on June 12th. This first look will introduce you to some of the new people helping us develop the DLC, and we’ll also be showing off some of the early features coming down the pipeline. Expect glimpses of new stages, items, enemies, and some wild new drones we’ve been having a blast testing internally.
This devlog is just the beginning of our pre-release rollout for Alloyed Collective, and we can’t wait to show you more over the coming months. We’ve been listening closely to the community while shaping this DLC, and we think it’s going to bring a fresh twist to the chaos you know and love.
To celebrate the devlog launch, we’re throwing down in a special event you won’t want to miss. On June 12th at 10am yeehaw time (8AM PT/11AM EST) Some of our devs will be facing off against a few of your favorite content creators in a game of Scavenger Bingo - live on the Risk of Resources Twitch channel. It’s going to be a fun mix of mayhem and developer humility (especially if we let Preston play), so don’t miss it.
We’ll be dropping links to the stream across all our social platforms on the day, and you can always catch the action at www.twitch.tv/riskofresources
