In 2019, we were graced with the virtual girl group K/DA from Riot Games that would inspire the world with their sound. They would be an inspiration for ANOTHER virtual girl group that would take the world by storm – well, ahem, yes, there’s obviously HUNTR/X from K-Pop Demon Hunters, but today, I’m actually talking about…

That’s right! You’ve heard of K-Pop, but have you ever heard of “Crypt-Pop”? These lovely ladies from Rift of the NecroDancer have formed their very own Crypt-Pop group, ZONE*5, and they’re here to WOW you with their moves in our newest collaboration with Riot Games and K/DA.

Note for those using mods of any kind

You may be experiencing weird things in the game (ESC not working from track select menu for example) after the previous update to 1.15.0. 

If you are experiencing issues with input, strange menu problems, or altered gameplay, please try to uninstall your mods and try again after relaunching the game. You may also want to reach out to the mod creator to report that their mod is causing bugs so they can resolve it.

Changes for 1.15.2-b23397

🛠️ Fixes

• Fix enemies not snapping to subdiv in remix mode

  • We're pretty confident in this change, but we wanted to make sure there are no unintended side effects before we put it out for every single player by default. Feel free to swap to the publicbetatesting branch via the Properties > Game Versions & Betas in Steam.

  • You'll still have access to the changes in the default build, and swapping to public beta testing is relatively low risk for this change. We'd appreciate the extra eyes!

🛠️ Fixes 

• Fixed an issue where fails were not being counted correctly in savedata (not visible from within game)

• Fixed an issue with StageType being designated incorrectly for Custom Music tracks and Shopkeeper Challenges

  • This was the cause of incorrect unlocks of items in the Rift Profile inventory or Steam Achievements (in the case of Custom Music), and items/achievements related to the Shopkeeper Challenges not unlocking correctly

  • If you would like us to reset a Rift Profile item you feel was achieved incorrectly as a result of this bug, please do the following:

  • Reach out via Discord using the #support-ticket channel, or send us an email [email protected]

  • Send us a bug report from the main menu with the following content

  • Your discord name/email

  • The content you would like us to reset for you

  • Once we follow up with you, confirm the reset worked for you

Cadence Plushie is available now!

New Feature Highlights

Profiles V2

This update brings exciting additions to the Profile System. You can now equip:

• A featured track to show off your favourite official song, or your best scores/combos

• Up to 5 unique stats for display on your profile (see patch notes below for more details)

To accommodate all the new information, the look of your profile is now more akin to a card -- take screenshots and show them off to others! 

You can also now view any player’s Rift Profile in the Leaderboards, so don’t miss a change to showcase your favourite tracks and accomplishments 👀

New DLC Profile Unlocks

We've also added some new items to the Profile inventory for OST Vol. 2. You'll be able to unlock various icons and a new frame from both the OST Music Pack and Ultra Creepy (free song) by accomplishing certain goals.

Folders

So… Rift has accumulated quite a number of songs now! When we launched back in February 2025, we had just over 30 songs. Now we have almost 100 official songs. Not to mention the Steam Workshop has… over 9000 submissions?

Can I say the line? Yes?

Okay, that’s out of my system now. But you know what’s now ADDED to YOUR system? Folders! To help you organize all your music.

Patch Notes 1.15.0-b23312

🆕 New Content and Features

• Added folders to Track Select and Custom Music

  • Beyond just sorting and filtering, tracks are now grouped into folders depending on your sort method. See the list of folder groupings per sort method below:

    • Default → per Story Beat/DLC pack (Dove, Suzu, Pizza Tower, etc)

    • Intensity → per intensity score (17, 18, 19 etc)

    • BPM → per BPM range (90-99, 100-109, etc)

    • Title → per letter (A, B, C, etc)

    • Artist → per artist name (Danny Baranowsky, Jules Conroy, etc)

    • Grade → per grade (S+, S, A, etc)

    • Play Count → per count range (algorithmic based on your playcount!)

    • Recently Played → per time frame (today, in the last week, in the last month, etc)

    • Custom music only:

      • Recently Downloaded → per time frame (today, in the last week, in the last month, etc)

      • Difficulty not available folder exists whenever a song is detected to be missing a difficulty (this way unplayable tracks are not in the default folders)

  • Folders also have some new UI controls added

    • Check them out in the expanded navbar (accessed by pressing C on keyboard or L2 on controller)

  • Folders can be disabled in Settings under the Other menu if you prefer not to use them!

• Added new stats and visuals to Rift Profiles

  • Equip up to 5 of the following stats for display on your profile!

    • Achievements unlocked

    • Achievements unlocked (percent)

    • Combined score

    • Custom song clears

    • Diamonds collected

    • Monsters defeated

    • Most played difficulty

    • Profile items unlocked

    • Profile items unlocked (percent)

    • Rhythm Rift clears

  • Equip a featured track to show off your best score and full combo

    • Select any track in your Track Select library (no custom music can be equipped for now

    • Select a specific difficulty to display

  • To accommodate all the new information, the look of your profile is now more akin to a card - take screenshots and show them off to others! 

  • Some stats are equipped by default to get you started

    • For those who do not want to show any information about their gameplay stats, you can also unequip all stats and choose not to display any featured track at all!

• Added more profile integration to the expanded Leaderboards

  • View any player's Rift Profile from the leaderboards!

  • Pagination has been added, allowing you to view the entire leaderboard if you wish

  • Profile data can now be changed from the leaderboards by selecting your own entry

  • New controls were added

    • Press E to return to your spot on the leaderboards

    • Press Q to return to the top of the leaderboards

• Added some special unlockable DLC profile items with our OST Vol. 2 release!

  • In addition to the free Portrait items you receive when purchasing a DLC, we've also added some new Badges and a Frame to this release!

  • Once you've redeemed the new free song or purchased the music pack, you can then work towards unlocking these special items

  • You can try this out without even buying a DLC by downloading our new free song, Ultra Creepy by Danny Baranowsky

  • The new items available are:

    • OST Vol. 2 (Music Pack) Profile Items

      • Shiny Skull 1 badge

      • Shiny Skull 2 badge

      • Shiny Skull 3 bagde

      • 80s frame

  • Added CustomHeroNative portrait type

  • Added new attribute TotalDuration to portrait.json animation definitions, allowing for multi-beat animations

    • The value is specified in beats within each object in the Animations array, and defaults to 1.0 if omitted

  • Added new animation types Miss and VibePower for custom hero portraits

🔁 Changes

• Changed the tutorials

  • We have long wanted to rewrite the tutorials to be less overwhelming! We finally had a chance to do this, coinciding with our Demo update :)

  • The Bestiary is now renamed to Tutorials in the Extras menu

  • In the Tutorials menu, you can now find tutorials for many different things, including every monster, different traps, and game concepts like lane wrapping and off-beat/arbitrary-beat hits

    • Hopefully this means it will be easier to practice specific game mechanics without having to replay through longer tutorials 

• Refactored save data

  • This was a huge undertaking that should allow us to better maintain save data going forward as we continue to develop the game

  • It also unblocks us from developing some other cool features that needed save data functionality we couldn't add with the old system!

  • WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?

    • For the most part, nothing: when you launch this patch, everything should work exactly the same as it did before, with a few exceptions that are listed below

    • Your legacy save data is still intact! This means if anything goes wrong during the import process, your save data is still there and can be reimported after following certain steps to ensure a successful import

    • If you have any trouble at all, PLEASE REACH OUT via Discord, Steam or email - we are confident we can help resolve any issues! Messing around with Steam Cloud or editing files may corrupt your saves so let us know instead

  • Specific changes from the save data refactor

    • Volume settings, calibration settings, and resolution/display mode are no longer synced via Steam Cloud

      • This means users who are playing across multiple devices no longer have to set calibration and audio levels every time they switch devices

      • However, you may need to skip through the FTUE on your first launch of a new device. Your save data will still be present

      • Players who are not using Steam Cloud will not be impacted

    • Players using the same PC to play on different Steam accounts will now share device settings

      • These players WILL now have synced calibration and audio settings

      • If you had Steam Cloud enabled when playing with two accounts, both accounts will be able to import their own save data

      • PCs that have never launched the game using two different accounts will not be impacted

    • The name of the save files has changed

      • As always, save data (both legacy and refactored) is located here: %userprofile%/AppData/LocalLow/Brace Yourself Games/Rift of the NecroDancer/Saves/

      • Your new save data file is named User\.riftsave and has its own backup file that will be used if anything in your main file is corrupted

        • This file will be synced to the cloud

        • In this folder, you can also see your old save data (a series of files and backups named SaveData. We recommend leaving it as-is in case a backup is required.

      • Per-device settings data: %userprofile%/AppData/LocalLow/Brace Yourself Games/Rift of the NecroDancer/Settings/Device.riftsave

        • Device independent (not synced to Steam Cloud)

• Changed Character sort's name to Default sort

⚒️ Fixes

• Fixed a mistimed Wyrm note at beat 239 in Death by Glamour Impossible 

• Fixed incorrect text label on Cyberpunk Cadence profile portrait

And a nice change as a result of our save data refactor:

• Fixed Seeded Remix mode scores not displaying locally when viewing the Seeded Remix leaderboards

  • Your score was never saved locally for this game mode, so until the level is scored again, the local display will be 0 even if you have a score on the leaderboard

Hey Rifters!

When we released our first music pack of the year back in March, the VA-11 Hall-A Music Pack, we let you know that we’re simplifying how we’re releasing DLC going forward. This change streamlines the purchasing process, cleans up our Steam page, AND it gives us an opportunity to permanently reduce our price per song.

To that point, we have now updated all of the individual songs from 1.99 USD to 1.49 USD to reflect the new price points in the music packs. If you’d like to pick up any missing songs as part of a bundle, now’s the time to do it!

Starting on June 11th, we will be delisting all the individual songs from our page, and releasing them in their new forms for consistency. However, if you’re still missing just one or two songs from one of the 2025 music packs after the change goes through, don’t panic! You’ll be able to find those individual pages via direct URL at any time here.

There’s a whole host of new profile items for you to unlock when you log in to Rift of the NecroDancer today. These include:

• New DJ Frame and Icon set for completing a survey

• Catrina Cadence by Metal Ghost (Community Fan Art Event Pick)

• Added new sort methods

  • You can now sort by: Grade, Play Count, Recently Played and Recently Downloaded

    • (Recently Played was not previously a tracked stat, so won't take previous play history into account - sorry!)

    • (Recently Downloaded is a sort method in Custom Music only, not Track Select)

• Added filtering functionality

  • You can now filter lists by: Unplayed Songs, Favourites, and DLC

• Added track favouriting

  • You can now add and remove favourites with F

  • Favourites are marked with a star icon in the menu

• Added a separator on the infinite scroll menus to indicate the top/bottom

• Added an expanding navigation bar

  • You can now press a button to expand the navigation bar to show additional hotkeys

Also, some Custom Music menu specific additions:

• Added a hotkey to open the Steam Page of any downloaded Custom Music

  • This will open the song in the Steam Overlay (or a webpage if the overlay is not available)

• Added new functionality to show all songs in Custom Music regardless of the currently selected difficulty

  • Songs that were missing a difficulty were removed from the list, which could cause the list position to reset to the top when changing difficulties

  • Now, a greyed out track indicating the missing difficulty will appear in the list instead, meaning the list will not reset its position

  • If this change isn't to your liking, we've also added a filter called 'Difficulty' that will bring back the old behaviour of the Custom Music menu

You may have noticed something different with this latest music pack release, so I wanted to take this chance to pull back the curtain on why we’re changing things up.

We now have one year and 10 music pack collaborations under our belt. We’ve learned a lot from data and direct feedback from you during this time. What did we learn? We need to KISS you.

If you haven’t heard the phrase before, KISS stands for “Keep It Simple, Silly.” Here’s the deal. 👇

The “why” behind the change

Previously, we sold songs individually for $1.99 USD, but offered a "Complete the Set" bundle for 25% off. We wanted to give you more choice, assuming some folks might only want one or two tracks from each DLC.

Well, we looked at the numbers, and we were wrong! It turns out 98% of you just buy the full pack anyway. Beyond that, our DLC list on Steam has exploded. With almost 50 new songs released last year alone, I’ve nearly broken the Steam backend with the sheer volume of apps and bundles we’re managing. Every release requires some custom shenanigans from our Valve rep (bless his face) to help us launch. It’s a lot of work for us, and we know it’s getting a bit overwhelming for you to navigate, too.

The new standard 💋

We’re simplifying to make things cleaner and cheaper from the get-go:

• No more individual song purchases: Moving forward, songs will be sold exclusively as Music Packs (except for free downloads).

• The discount is baked in: Instead of doing bundle math, we’re just making the pack price the standard. You get that 25% discount automatically without having to hunt for a bundle button.

Regarding legacy music packs, we plan to update older music pack formats to this new system down the line for consistency. If you’re currently missing just one or two songs from one of the 2025 music packs, don’t panic! You’ll still be able to find those individual pages via direct URL even after the update goes through.

TL;DR: Less clutter in the store, less work for us, and a permanent bundle price for you.

Rift of the NecroDancer is turning one year old! To celebrate, we're hosting a fan art contest inviting players to design an original outfit for Cadence to celebrate Rift’s first anniversary!

Submissions are voluntary and intended for fun, celebration, and the possibility of creative collaboration with the development team. Submission does not guarantee in-game inclusion. No prior art experience is required.

We encourage everyone to participate and have fun expressing their ideas!

• How to participate: Design an original outfit for Cadence to wear at Rift’s first anniversary following the theme depicted below.

• Theme: Cadence Through Time.

  • Draw Cadence wearing a festive outfit to celebrate Rift’s first anniversary. The party outfit should be inspired by different decades or centuries, from the past or the future.

• Prize: Selected designs may be implemented in Rift of the NecroDancer and may become official Cadence outfits added to the Rift Profiles for players to equip. Participants of selected designs may also receive a DLC Music Pack of their choice.

• Selection: Two designs may be selected. One chosen by our lovely Discord community, from a group of finalists selected by Brace Yourself Games, and the other chosen by the developers at Brace Yourself Games.

  • Offsets were tweaked for some tracks that were deemed particularly 'drifty' - the changes should help songs feel more accurate

Crypt of the NecroDancer: Shovel Knight Character DLC

Hey NecroDancers! Our team’s been cooking up a cool new feature for you to show off and add a personal touch on the leaderboards, so here’s a little preview of what to expect when it drops!

Introducing Rift Profiles!

Rift Profiles are a way for you to add a personal touch to your spot on the leaderboard. You can unlock Profile items by accomplishing certain achievements!

What can you unlock?

• Character Portraits and alternate poses

• Frames

• Badges

• Name flairs

There are over 200 items you can unlock when this update goes live, including DLC related items. To unlock DLC items, you will need to purchase at least one track (free tracks don’t count sorry!) from the related Music Pack!

How do you unlock?

These items are all attached to different achievements. Some achievements will match the Steam achievements you’ve been working on to this point. Others will be totally new! These achievements give us the opportunity to challenge you with some of our most difficult achievements yet, and yes, we plan to keep adding additional Profile items and challenges as we go!

Items will be given retroactively, so you may have a TON of unlocks pop-up on your first log in for all the achievements you’ve already done.

The hardest achievement, you ask? All you have to do is clear 32 Impossible Rhythm Rifts in Remix Mode using the Coda Modifier. Easy peasy! 😉

Did you know it took one year before someone (shoutout SpootyBiscuit) completed the original “Impossible, Right?” Crypt of the NecroDancer achievement? Fun fact. Mentioning for no particular reason.

When does this drop?

This feature drops October 30, along with the next Music Pack 👀 Stay tuned!

🔁 Changes

• Changed all in-game menus to move the selection cursor automatically when holding the 'Up' or 'Down' buttons

• 'Up'/'Down' must be held for a minimum duration before auto-scroll begins

• The same auto-scroll delay also applies to all Track Select menus, resulting in a slightly longer initial delay but a much faster continued scroll rate

• Changed practice mode to allow taking damage

• Missing a monster in practice mode will decrease the HP counter as if the track was played normally

• Reaching zero HP in practice mode does not trigger a game over

• HP can be decreased past zero, indicating how close the run would have come to clearing the song in normal play

• Changed MISSed notes to show Early/Late indicators

• Requires the E/L indicator option to be enabled in the accessibility settings

• Enabling this setting also causes MISSed notes to be indicated in Practice Mode

  • Now, missing a hit in practice mode will actually decrease HP

  • If HP is decreased past 0, it will go into the negatives (so you can see how many times you were hit)

• Changed vibe chains to still be rewarded even if food in the vibe chain was missed

  • Previously, missing a food item that was part of a vibe chain would not reward vibe power correctly

• Fixed several remix mode inaccuracies (mostly in the editor)

We plan to update this branch semi-regularly with ad hoc updates. While you can get access to builds early, please note that you may encounter more bugs than usual in these builds.

• After completing a boss battle it's possible to see all boss portraits in the menu when scrolling up and down the list
• The kerning on text in artist names is broken if the name contains 'GI'
• Boss battles sometimes do not load the correct difficulty if Play Back-to-Back is enabled
• An animation bug occurs in Show Time! Hard difficulty that makes the game more difficult to play than intended
• NVIDIA graphics card settings may cause framerate issues. Workaround: Edit the SaveData file (via C:\Users\your username\AppData\LocalLow\Brace Yourself Games\Rift of the NecroDancer) and set the FramerateLimit value to match your monitor's refresh rate (e.g. 60, 144, etc.)
• Japanese and Chinese fonts do not display punctuation correctly
• New High Score banner sometimes doesn't display correctly (both in Remix and in Custom Music)
• Assist indicators for the minigames can disappear occasionally
