Reynard news & patch notes

This week I focused on optimization and bug fixes. I also have some important news about the future of Reynard and Hyper Fox Studios. A lot of people asked me if Reynard will be released on Nintendo Switch platform and I can finally reply that… IT WILL!!! Nintendo approved my developer account for Switch. This gave me another huge motivation boost! Generally It means that I’ll be:

• Adding more new content (bosses, enemies, items…),
• Further optimize the game,
• Squish undiscovered and upcoming bugs!

It’s good news, but I’ll have more expenses by getting the right hardware (Switch) etc. Besides that, my PC freezes from time to time. I really hope that he only has a “phase”. I'm super happy that so many of you support Reynard. But I'm not able to live off our little fox :D So in the next couple of weeks, I'll try to earn enough money for the upcoming costs. I'll pick up some client work in web development. In these upcoming couple of weeks don't be mad if I'll be releasing only minor updates for Reynard. Enough with the news! Here are the changes!

• Movement and dash of Reynard and NPCs has been optimized. The game should run smooth now on 60 FPS.
• Added the FPS option – 60 FPS.
• Added the starting area blocades in Ferdinand’s level.
• When crafting, everything except equipment now gets added to your inventory automatically.
• Fixed the bug when you’d play on the easy mode and the perk would take away more stamina than allowed.
• Daily run on easy mode now loads starting items correctly.
• Mumu now deals damage over time.
• Effect zones of spawned cursed weapons don’t get blown away by the wind anymore.
• No more building stuff on player, enemy or ally ocuppied area in the invasion.
• Fixed a room cell which had a “physical” golden key in it.

Hey there! It’s the first week after the release and I’m happy to say that this is my second update already! I know it’s not Friday… I’m releasing this update one day earlier because I’ll probably start working on other things that might take more time (maybe a new boss and optimization? :D). • Added daily run leagues. Green (easy), Orange (normal) and Indigo (hard)!

• Skeleton mage (summoner). It appears on hard mode only!
• You can now lock the frame rate to 144 or leave it uncapped.
• You can't build on occupied slot anymore. First you have to sell the building.
• Damage taken by player is now colored red.
• Removed boss scaling from the easy mode.
• Changed the Stamina boost to 100+ for the easy mode.
• Rebalanced the Gold boost relics.
• Reduced Ifrit's staff knockback by 40%.
• Fixed 1 buggy room cells.

Hey there! I couldn't sit still since I knew that some of you are struggling with the difficulty of the game... so I had a productive Sunday :)

Difficulty Modes

As many of you guys requested, I've added the difficulty modes. Now if you'll play the updated version "1.0.1", you'll be asked what kind of an adventure you'd like to experience first time before you enter the dungeon. Current options are "easy" and "normal". I'll later add "hard" and "foxlike" modes. In easy mode you'll start with the "Crafted bow" which has a rune slot + homing missiles. You will also be granted an armor - "Island Protector" which is unbreakable, has 3 rune slots and reduces the "normal" damage by 30%. Besides these 2 items I've added a "Poor Max Stamina Boost" relic which increases your stamina by 10. If you'll want to change the difficulty once you're comfortable, you can do this in the options menu. I also have to warn you that the easy mode does not affect the daily runs! It just wouldn't be fair :) Please let me know if this is good enough for easy mode or you want me to buff it more. I'd also like to hear if you have any special wishes for the upcoming hard and foxlike modes.

Other Options

Some of you don't want the camera shake effect. I've added an option which disables it. I've been also thinking that some of you may find the damage numbers disturbing, so now you can disable them aswell. Untill next update I wish you happy dungeon crawling :D

I could be chasing version 1.0 for months or even years. But everything has to have a goal or at least a major milestone, and my main goal was to release a game that captures elements of my favorite genres in a good way. I think that my goal was achieved. Reynard has left the early access and I can’t wait for your feedback. This is not the end! It’s a major milestone. I’ll continue to add improvements proposed by the community and my “imagination”. I can bet that I’ll have to squash undiscovered bugs in the future and I’m pretty sure that I’ll have to start freelancing or find myself another job if I want to keep paying bills 😀 I’d like to thank Boštjan, Nika and all the supporters! • Buffed necro staff. It's not breakable anymore and it has higher life steal and a rune slot!
• Goblins aren't immune to poison anymore.
• Undead creatures aren't fully immune to necrotic damage anymore.
• Score relic's values have been changed.
• Added a rune slot to Hakol's head.
• Stamina cost of Abdul's runes has been reduced from 10 to 5.
• Buffed Thin Blade's damage!
• If you have a full inventory and you try to purchase an item from the merchant you won't loose gold anymore (this one was nasty... sorry).
• Small stamina potion is not sold under medium stamina potion prices anymore.
• Fixed the boom joe's explosion animation.
• Fixed 5 buggy room cells.
• Dropping companion boost relic now correctly updates companion UI numbers.
• Spikes for Doctor Plague now appear only in 3rd stage (If he's the last boss on your way to Wizco).
• Fixed zombie companions in the invasion (they would stay idle around staircase).
• Moon in main menu doesn't appear anymore when you go to the control settings.
• Removed hints that weren't valid anymore.
• Death camera.

Sadly I was sick this week, but gladly I managed to prepare stuff for 0.9.8 version of Reynard! Only 2 more weeks from 1.0! • Vampire perk's price increased from 10 to 20. Start with a vampiric rune, zombie companion and 50% less health and stamina!
• Added Ifrit's Staff.
• New sprites for the slimes!
• Buffed Doctor Plague's 3rd stage (If he's the last boss on your way to Wizco).
• Added companion counter. Now you know how many companions you can have :D
• Added confirmation prompt before quiting or restarting.
• Nerfed Fire Spear's damage over time.
• Stamina again regenerates quicker in invasion and when the boss is defeated.
• Enemies and bosses killed counters in "stats" should now be in sync with the achievements counter.
• Skeleton companion now gets transfered between the scenes normally.
• Damaged items like weapons and armors are now showing the correct value once you change the scene.

• No more numbers like 0.92 etc. Majority of the numbers are now rounded and scaled to the integers (1, 2, 3..).
• Reworked rune generation. It's way better!
• You can now see your stats like level, enemies killed, invasions played by interacting with a trophy in the house.
• Check out the best score of all times and daily run leaderboards by interacting with a trophy in the house.
• Mobs now collide with each other. They can surround you more easily.
• Added information icons for weapon usage in the HUD!
• Fixed couple of pixels in the "Pot Hater" skin.
• Added more structure and starting rooms to the invasion. The layout of invasions are now more interesting.
• Damage numbers don't appear anymore when you break pots etc.
• Added option "Nothing" to Zoe.
• Added the "Best played with a controller" screen.
• Secret library is resized to a normal size.
• Jolt, Jolt Volt, Jolt Volt Bolt now have reduced cooldowns.
• Buffed the vampire rune.
• Buffed bubble turret's attack rate by 20%.
• Buffed triple turret's attack rate by 25%.
• Information about the item now appears in 0.5 seconds instead of 1.
• Fixed double healing numbers on life steal attacks.
• Sizzles and Cobras are now only immune to poison.
• Fixed the bug where you could interact with zoe even if she already gave you a reward.
• Fixed pressure plates spawning outside of the dungeon.
• Everything on fire now has 80% chance of spreading the fire between nearby enemies, companions etc.
• Changed the rune in "Dundee" perk.
• Fixed the bug that wouldn't play secret room's open door animation.
• Crates in invasion which are used as buildings don't give you score anymore.

Hey there! I'm updating Reynard a day earlier since I won't be home on Friday! This update brings "damage numbers", "Zoe" and more! But as always! • Camera rendering changed. The dungeons should now be normally visible on "unordinary" resolutions.

• UI is now being rendered clearer.
• Damage of "damage over time" effect now gets applied after a second and not instantly!
• Invasion now also spawns water.
• Added more invasion layouts.
• Buffed the waves and subwaves of the invasion.
• Nerfed the xeno turret's attack rate.
• Nerfed Sizzle's damage and increased his attack rate.
• Buffed Cobra's attack rate.
• Buffed fire spear's fire duration.
• Tweaked the generation of runes which deal damage over time.
• Fixed a lot of animator missing values.
• Removed wooden club's damage over time.
• When moving up and left on keyboard Reynard was facing up. When moving up and right he was facing right. Now in both cases he faces up.
• Fixed the Judy's arrow's starting position.
• Fixed the Skeleton archer's arrow's starting position.
• Changed Thunder Sword's sprite.

Hey dudes! We’re already at the 0.9.5 and I’m starting to wrap things up. I think that Reynard will get out of early access in the end of February. So approximately 5 more weeks (5 updates)! • Added a skeleton archer.
• Loading screen changed. Added the area info at the beginning of the scene and a roadmap. Transitions between scenes are now more "polished".
• Bosses now have different difficulties. For example if you face Dexter as a second boss he'll have bumper traps around his area. If you meet him as third there will be bumper traps + flames.
• Using a health potion now heals your weakest companion / ally for 50% of potions healing power.
• Turrets are now automatically sold when you finish the invasion.
• Reynard is now looking up when he spawns in the boss room or invasion.
• Blueprint machine now only appears in the last level of invasion.
• Papa John now appears only in the first level of invasion.
• Papa John is now hidden until you clear the "stairs" room.
• Loading progress on the loading screen now displays progress up to 99%. Some players found it confusing if it stayed on 100% for couple of seconds XD
• Fairy stops healing Reynard if he has full HP and continues when he gets hurt.
• Named the dungeons: Terra, Infernia and Glacia.
• Added outline to HUD's numbers. It increases the invisibility in the Glacia.
• Destroy particles now spawn in front of the item being destroyed.
• Changed some pebbles in Terra to grass.
• Added description to the daily run.
• Buster Sword's starting damage nerfed by 50%.
• Buffed the Ifrit's boot's fire damage.
• Dexter's charge damage nerfed from 5 to 3.
• Reduced starting stamina from 20 to 10.
• Dash stamina cost reduced from 1 to 0.5.
• Lowered prices of Max Stamina and Max Health cost options in shrines and libraries.
• Lowered gold price at the silver key shrine.
• Nerfed Xeno Turret's damage. It has to hit golems twice to kill them.
• Buffed Triple Turret's damage.
• Selling turrets doesn't give you bonus gold.
• Fixed 8 buggy room cells.
• Fixed the bug when sometimes icons disappeared from the minimap.

Hey there! It's Friday and it's update time! As said in our “Why early access?” section on steam... we want to involve our early access supporters in development of the game. Because it’s not the first time that we’ve received a proposal for stamina to regenerate itself instantly once you clear the room, we've added this feature. Some of our players also pointed out that they don’t see much sense in waiting for their health to regenerate if they have a health regeneration relic. They see it as an exploit. After thinking about it for some time, I’ve decided that they're right and that the relic should be removed. So it’s gone… for now :D The whole point of the daily run is to achieve the highest score. Until now if you didn’t die… you could clear every room and in the end your score would be very similar to your rival’s score. That’s why from now on speed and remaining gold is being rewarded. If you complete a run under 40, 30 or 25 minutes you’ll get 10000 bonus score for each mark. Also at the end of the run remaining gold now gets transformed into score. There are a lot of changes... Like 2 new special weapons and more. • Titan's Belt. Can spawn up to 4 circling discs around Reynard that stun and hurt attackers.
• Luna's Cloak. Become invisible for 5 seconds. Invisibility stops if you attack.
• Stamina refills when transitioning through doors. Regeneration rate is increased when you clear the room, you're waiting for the next wave or you defeat the boss.
• Wind can't spawn in forge rooms anymore.
• Added confetti to the win screen.
• Repositioned the HP bar of Xeno turret.
• Removed HP regeneration relics.
• Minor modification to Foen's island shape.
• Added a tiny easter egg.
• Added more supporters to the book of credits.
• Speed is now being rewarded! If you complete a run under 40, 30 or 25 minutes you'll get 10000 bonus score for each mark.
• At the end of the run remaining gold gets transformed into score.
• Buffed the Ifrit's boot's fire damage and spread duration.
• Reduced starting max stamina to 20.
• Enemy loot drops in invasion are halved.

Happy New Year! After watching some of my friends, youtubers and streamers play Reynard, I’ve noticed that they got “crappy” items or items that have the same functionality way too many times. It was an eye opening moment. I’ve decided to rebalance some of the weapons. Remove the ones that are “underperforming” and most importantly create more special weapons which are fun to use. • Ifrit's Boots. When you activate them, they spawn fiery trail!
• Added Luna's mirror. It spawns a projection of the owner which taunts the enemies.
• Buster Sword. No explanation needed.
• Added Jolt, Jolt Volt and Jolt Volt Bolt - Items that shoot "chain lightning" like projectiles.
• A lot of weapons have been rebalanced. Many "junk" weapons have been removed. Critical koeficient for every weapon is now minimum 2.
• Rune slots are now displayed in a text form! Now you know how many rune slots a weapon has even if you're purchasing it from a merchant.
• You can now sell buildings in invasion. Added sfx when buying and selling.
• Space button is now scaled correctly in the dialogue window.
• Spider, spider webs and web traps have new skins!
• Bosses now have larger pool of dropabble "cool" items.
• Silver chest can now contain any item.
• Bug where you could stay locked out should be fixed.
• Fixed the Runemaster perk. Runes get assigned correctly now.
• Wave counter now gets updated correctly in the beginning.
• If Ferdinand was attacked by a companion... Sometimes he wouldn't trigger boulders.

It’s holiday season and I’ve been busy… eating and hanging out with my family. But I didn’t forget about my fellow gamers! • Added trapped breakables. When you break something (pots etc.) there is a chance of spawning a cursed weapon.
• Main menu music now fades in instead of blowing out your ears :D
• Music volume gets reduced by 50% once the game is paused.
• Kitchen knife damage increased from 0.75 to 1.
• Necro Staff's kill count before summoning an ally skeleton is reduced from 10 to 7.
• All pots now add to pot breaker achievement.
• Cursed fork can now damage companions.

As you can see, this was a shorter update since it’s holiday season and I’ve been busy. But I’ll prepare a bigger update next week 😀 See you in the next year!

Hey there! It's Friday and another Reynard's update is ready :) Until now the balance was in favor of Melee bosses. It would be wrong if it remained that way for a longer period. But it would be boring if the new Ranged boss would deal a “regular” ranged attack damage. That’s the reason I’ve created Noc. Unlike other bosses he doesn’t have health dependent states! Noc is aggressive from the beginning. His mission is to chase Reynard and hit him with his darkening / ethereal fists. If Reynard get’s hit by his fist, his vision becomes limited. Not only that he’s shooting dangerous projectiles, he’s also summoning cursed weapons! Besides adding Noc I've added all sorts of new stuff! • Added SFX to “pawn” shrine.

• Water can now appear instead of the abyss – More biome variations,
• Last hitting an enemy triggers mini camera shake.
• Necro Staff’s kill count before summoning an ally skeleton is reduced from 15 to 10. Its damage has been incresed from 1 to 1.3.
• Forest Child perk nerfed. It also takes 20% of player’s score and gold.
• Water Plate Armor’s durability increased to 50.
• Bubba’s prices and gap between them increased.
• Mumu’s explosion damage increased by 100%.
• Zombies’s damage increased by 50%.
• Fixed some cells where player directly runs into an obstacle or an object.
• Changed the colliders of the water obstacles in dungeons.
• Blind monk perk now influences vision on all levels… Invasion and bosses included.
• Rotation of Bubble turret bullets has been fixed.

In the upcoming week I’ll focus on polishing stuff! I’ll probably add some map on the loading screen, so the player will know how far from saving Prascilla he is. I’ll try to add options to the ingame menu, fiddle with dungeon progression and as always… add a new enemy or ally. Ho-ho-ho! Christmas is around the corner and Santa has come to visit Foen! Since it’s December I wanted to add some Christmas spirit to Reynard’s universe. Santa became another boss influenced by the powerful Wizco’s magic! But you can bring him back to his senses if you free him from the spell (beat him). Players who can defeat him will be rewarded with Santa’s costume! Besides Santa I've added all sorts of new stuf! Free him and unlock yourself a Santa's costume. You can start the battle by interacting with portal next to the fox hole. You'll be able to fight Santa from 12/12/EveryYear to 1/2/EveryYear. - Added a Zombie. Immune to poison and necro damage. When it kills it's victim it restores 0.25 hp to self and spawns a new zombie on it's victim's place. - Doctor Plague now spawns Zombies and Skeletons. His movement speed was increased for 50%. Has some companions from the beginning. - Removed a single pixel mistake on Reynard's Santa costume :) - Fixed bugged when golem's dropped golem's fist instead of golem's hand. (one is usable other is an actual weapon of the golem). - Wilson's laser beam can now damage allies and companions. - Doctor Plague can now damage allies and companions. - Fixed the bug when the stairs to secret room are spawned behind the indestructible objects. - Companion skeletons wouldn't get transported to other levels. When getting feedback from players, I’ve noticed that very few of them figured out all of the game’s mechanics. Many players didn’t know that there is crafting in the game, that you can charge your attack or that your attacks don’t deal knockback once you run out of stamina. That’s why I’ve finally created an interactive tutorial, which also adds some value to the story. Tutorial will start once you create a new profile. Besides the tutorial I've added all sorts of new stuf! • Pepe can now spawn in the basement dungeon.

I’ll add the first player who figures out how to pull the axe out from the stump to the book of credits! Since many new players have joined Reynard community and there is no official tutorial, I hope to have started one for next update. Expect more cool recipes, bosses and updates in the future. Hey there! It's been exactly one week since we've pressed the release button on Steam. We recieved a valubale feedback from our players and we can't wait to add new stuff and squash those bugs :) I'll try to stream the development of Reynard as often as I will be able to.
