The pitch will keep evolving this year, with many exciting things planned to push Rematch further. This took a while to make, and it is always scary for us as developers to risk overpromising when game development has so many moving parts. That being said, Rematch's long awaited 2026 Roadmap is finally here! There is a lot to talk about, and we didn't prepare a lengthy post to go along with it, but we still wanted to share it with you as soon as we could. Patch Information 1.203.000 S3.0 Beta Date: March 12th, 2026 S3.0 Release Date: March 25th, 2026 Hi everyone! Season 3 is an important milestone for REMATCH. We are starting to reach our stride, and improving our processes is showing results. Our velocity for introducing new features and changes to the game is still not quite where we want it, but we are comfortable adding more and more thanks to our overall stability. We are introducing a first batch of Social and Progression features, to improve the overall experience of playing Rematch, and also starting to implement more impactful changes to the Core Gameplay. These are the first steps of a long-term strategy to get Rematch to its full potential, and we are very grateful to all our players, from the most casual to the top of the elite, for giving us the chance to keep improving the game. The Sloclap Team Progression & Social Features On top of the considerations of core gameplay, there are systems that we are aiming to improve extensively in the future patches and seasons. Among these are the topics of Progression, Social, FTUE (first time user experience), UX improvements, and Moderation (Reporting). In Season 3, we are introducing three new features that are only the first part of this long term plan. Periodic Challenges Weekly and daily challenges are now available. Complete periodic objectives to earn Battle Pass tokens. 1. Repeatable challenge: Play 5 matches to earn 1 token. Once completed, this challenge is repeatable. 2. Daily challenge: Each day, complete a new challenge to earn 1 token. The daily challenge refreshes at 23:59 UTC. 3. Weekly challenges: Each week, complete a new set of challenges to earn 2 or more tokens. Weekly challenges refresh on the same weekday the Season started, at 23:59 UTC. Details - Tokens can’t be earned by gaining XP anymore. - The daily win bonus is no longer available. Progression mechanics and features are essential for players to feel like their time in the game matters. Periodic challenges are a modest first addition to make sure that you can end a session while being reassured that you accomplished something (and that you didn’t just yoyo between two divisions in ranked mode). We are currently hammering in final design decisions to add more extensive, polished and rewarding progression mechanics addressed to all of our players. Team-up Ever had a great experience with your teammates and wished you could play together again immediately? You can now request your teammates to squad up directly at the end of a match at the press of a button! If one or more players choose to team-up, a new squad will be created with the first player to ask for the team-up as leader. “Team-up” is a recurrent request from our players, and is an obvious addition to Rematch. Outside of competitive gameplay, a lot of players engage with Rematch as a cool experience to share with friends or others, and we want to lean into and encourage that aspect of the game. This requires features that foster a positive social environment, as well as others to discourage negative behavior (which we have planned to deliver soon). End-of-match screen We’ve reworked the end match screens to condense progression information in a single summary page (profile level, battle pass periodic challenges and ranking information are now on the same screen). The MVP can now also come from the losing team. With the addition of more progression mechanics, we wanted to take the opportunity to make the “end of match” screen feel more complete and rewarding. We are currently working on a few more improvements to make it more comfortable to read the stats at the end of a game. Limited Time Mode 1v1 will be back during season 3 ! April 3rd to April 13th. Over time we want to add more game modes to the game to create more variety and events to look forward to. Look out for new modes to arrive during 2026. Matches / Core Gameplay Improvements As we discussed in previous communications (Mini dev Update#5 https://www.playrematch.com/post/mini-dev-update-5-september-12th-2025), we needed to improve the overall stability of the game to be able to deliver more impactful changes to the gameplay and metagame. We are getting there, and season 3 is the first step of a strategy of improvements to the core gameplay. There is a lot of debate around the strength of defense vs attack, as well as the place of “dribbling” and “dribbling techs” in the game. Our strategy has not changed since that dev update: keeping emerging and high-level mechanics as much as possible, but removing egregious examples of the ball teleporting, and unnatural and unreadable player movements. Season 3 will see core gameplay changes on: 1. Goalkeeper pass back rules 2. Defensive Abilities 3. A targeted change/nerf to “Vexis Dash” 4. A few stamina values 5. Extra effort animation The overall objective is to make all parts of the gameplay more refined and rewarding, while pushing the balance in the right direction. From a bird’s eye view, the balancing of the game is acceptable. Games are often very close, going down to the wire and being decided by a single decisive action. Goals are rare enough to “feel like football”. In that sense, you could argue that goalkeeping and defending are in the right place, or even “too strong”. We do agree that having slightly more goals would be better for the game in a general sense. But that is a bit of a surface analysis, and there are a lot more levels of depth to the current situation. Passive defense today is strong, while active defense is often unrewarding. In the same way, defending as a group in the box is easy enough but putting pressure alone higher up on the pitch is a bit more haphazard. In a sense, “emergent mechanics” are necessary for dribblers to beat defenders, but their existence restricts our ability to balance defensive abilities; which means more legitimate dribbling abilities have a hard time finding their place. Overreacting and buffing defensive abilities indiscriminately would squash dribbling abilities and force players to lean harder into “advanced techs” (or exploits) to have any chance to express skill and score goals. We are aiming to fix that over time by nudging all the different moving parts of the equation in the right direction at a similar rate. Some of the mechanics in Rematch are still a bit rough, with big hitboxes and unclear hits and resolutions. As the game matures, and we develop better underlying systems, we can refine the feel and visual fairness of the game, and in consequence we can better answer balancing issues. We will also be able to introduce new gameplay features that allow players to express skill and create variety (as we started doing with dribble into push ball and dribble into lob push ball). These patch notes will go into more detail than usual to try and contextualize what we are trying to do, give insights on what’s coming next and, hopefully, communicate how we are trying to improve the game for everyone. Goalkeeper Passback New Goalkeeper rule: Once goalkeepers catch a ball, they can't catch it again until an opponent interacts with it. This is feedbacked by two elements: - The ball is at the goalkeeper’s feet (ball in hand = safe, ball at feet = vulnerable). - A red circle is displayed at the feet of the goalkeeper → if you take control of the ball in this state, you will do so with your feet and be vulnerable Passing back to an invulnerable goalkeeper can create uninteresting game states. This change is aimed at avoiding the most egregious instances of time wasting, while keeping the rule predictable and understandable at all levels of play. We spent time cleaning the way this feature was set up, which will allow us to iterate on it if necessary. We will be monitoring the impact of this change closely. Defensive abilities The balance between attacking and defensive abilities in Rematch is core to every match. We currently have a number of issues that we want to address over the long term, amongst which the imbalance between active and passive defending. The best way to defend is to stay locked in Defensive Stance, and wait for your opponents to make a mistake. This does feel like “real football”, and is not a bad thing per se, but we do believe the game would be more interesting if actively attacking the ball holder was a more impactful option. This is intensified by the existence of many “emergent mechanics/techs” that are very hard to defend with active abilities like tackles and dives. Our strategy over time is to incrementally push all different aspects of the equation in the right direction: removing egregious dribbling exploits, and improving more legitimate mechanics to have a better balanced and more controlled gameplay. Tackles - Reduction of standing tackle assist/redirection by 25% - Tackle hitboxes: hitbox around the feet is 10% larger to compensate tackle assist changes - Tackle hitboxes: hitbox around the body reduced to avoid “phantom hits” - Standing Tackles: range slightly improved - 5% (animation will bring you further) - Standing tackle now has mirrored animations. Depending on the ball location, the player will tackle with their left or right foot. This allows for the hitbox to have more understandable and logical hit reactions (hits closer to the center) - Some fixes on hits not registering correctly when hitting a player during ball control - Sliding tackle will no longer be triggered if defensive stance input is held. This should solve some instances of sliding tackles coming out instead of standing tackles. One aspect we wanted to address is the “tackle assist”. In its current implementation, it can create some strange redirections. It was also tweaked too strongly, which meant that you could in some cases be redirected towards a ball even if you had misread its trajectory or the dribbling player’s action. On top of that, the redirection would sometimes take over and make you miss your mark (when you try to predict opposing dribbles). To compensate for the loss in the ease of execution, we added more “oomph” to the tackle by making it go a bit further, and improving its hitboxes. The idea is to make it more demanding but also more powerful and consistent when used correctly. We will keep observing and iterating on these tweaks, and have more improvements on tackles already planned in the coming patches. Defensive Stance & Dash - Defensive Stance: 8% hitbox size reduction both as an outfield and as GK hitboxes reduction. - Dash now goes slightly further (up to +15% speed) We are comfortable with this adjustment on the Defensive Stance since it goes in the direction of multiple of our objectives. It should give more space for ground play, reduce the number and egregiousness of “phantom hits” (balls bouncing off invisible collisions), and slightly reduce the effectiveness of passive defence. We will keep a close eye on the impact of this change on the overall defensive experience but our tests seem to indicate that this slight “nerf” is acceptable. The defensive dash tweak should make it more effective at following dribbling and juking opponents. We want to give this ability a stronger place in the defensive matrix and have more improvements planned for the coming patches. Stamina - Dribble (L2 + X / LT + A / Left Ctrl + Space) stamina cost reduction - Sprint Start stamina cost reduction (specifically the cost of starting to sprint) Stamina balancing is a specific design subject we are going to iterate on very soon. We will develop systems that allow better impact abilities depending on a player’s current stamina, in an effort to better reward good stamina management, and punish wasteful players. In the meantime, we wanted to tweak a few values to better reward players that use legitimate dribble and sprint mechanics to break away from opponents. The change in sprint stamina should also help defenders keep with the flow of the game and react to quick changes of direction. Dribbles - Some exploits allowing to magnetize the ball have been removed, specifically during “Vexis Dash” - Fixed an issue where controlling the ball right after a Dash would cause an extra forward movement (a component of the “Vexis Dash”) With that we are targeting some specific issues we have around the “Dash into Ball Control”, sometimes referred to as “Vexis Dash”. The idea of a mechanic that allows the player to bait defenders in one direction while going in the other is interesting, but a couple of bugs allow it to create unnatural and unpredictable movements, as well as “magnetizing” the ball from far away, making these interactions feel unfair.We are not done fixing all the issues we have around techs/exploits (depending on the interpretation), but are working on some fixes that should arrive very soon around unintended uses of the “Dribble” (“flicker”, 0 stam dribbles, etc.). Some of these are caused by rollbacks/network resolution and are therefore a bit trickier. Extra Effort, Sprint & Dive - New Extra Effort start animation makes triggering the ability in an input direction more reactive both with and without the ball - Added new animations to make turning while sprinting in ball possession snappier - Fixed an issue where Extra Effort Dive could get cancelled Improving locomotion is still a key objective for Rematch, both for game feel and balancing reasons. These changes on extra effort should also smooth out the ability and remove some bugs associated with it. Volley Tap - Updated volley tap trajectory, for high height volley taps: the initial ball trajectory is more direct towards the ground and doesn't make a small lob anymore. - The power of those volleys has also been (very) slightly increased. We’ve had issues with the volley tap’s power feeling inconsistent. Some bug fixes happened in patch 9 and this tweak in patch 10 should make those high height volleys feel stronger. They should also be easier to aim down towards the goal (previously, a header performed close to the penalty spot would go above the goal or hit the bar). Bugfixes Gameplay Minor / Misc. Fixes Fixed an issue where user couldn't perform any actions after refilling a Quick Match after a crash Tutos & Workshops / Menus / Interface Additions and Updates Added game mode tutorial from Custom Match [Major Fixes - Accepting a previously sent squad invite from an active squad member through the social panel no longer dissolves the squad - User is no longer removed from an active Match if they accept a Squad Invite after a Match Found prompt is shown in the Main Menu Misc. Fixes - News pop up is no longer triggered twice on fresh saves - Title no longer crashes upon closing the AR/Stadium purchase window inside the Customization Menu - Disabled Quick Match entry button on Main Menu if no game modes are available for Quick Match - Disabled Ranked Match entry button on Main Menu if no game modes are available for Ranked Match Art / Rendering Major Updates Added new content - VR (Blue Fire & Birch Forest) - Goal Celebration & Victory Mood - Ball Misc. Known Issues - Player animation isn't smooth when doing a volley action in the opposite direction of the ball - At the end of the match on the victory/defeat screen, a desync can happens. The desync doesn't affects the outcome of the match as it happens after it ended. - Goalkeeper invulnerability feedback is sometimes not correctly removed at the end of the cooldown and stay present with a very low opacity - Goalkeeper invulnerability feedback can sometimes be visible on several players - 1v1 - Scoring a goal doesn't trigger the goal point feedback - Color palettes for F50 and Predator (Adidas) Items are visible in the customization even if the items are not possessed by the player - Player isn't correctly facing the ball after a pushball done from a dribble in the opposite direction

We hope you've had a wonderful end of the year, and if not, we hope things are looking up soon with brighter days ahead. We wish you a happy new year, and all the best for what's to come! Everyone is back from their holidays and the team is now back in full swing and ready to get things done for Season 2 and beyond.

In this post, we'll talk about what's next in Season 2, a quick recap of the feedback we've gotten since Patch 7, some Discord and esports-related news, as well as the upcoming Patch 8 Beta.

Season 2 Highlights

With Patch 7 out since mid-December, the team's focus has partially shifted to Quality-of-Life changes to provide a more intuitive user experience across the board for Patch 8 and Patch 9.

Patch 8 (tentatively™ planned for the end of the month) will see the release of the long-awaited 1v1 Limited Time Mode with its own Quick Play queue, and will be available indefinitely as a Custom Match game mode! We are also reworking the way Outfield Dives work to make them a more consistent and intuitive defensive tool. Do note that depending on player feedback during the upcoming Beta, we might need more time to iterate and polish the Outfield Dive, which might see it postponed for Patch 9. Additionally, we're also adding the Dribble Lob Push Ball. This one won't make it into Patch 8 proper, as we'd like to get your feedback first before putting it into the live game.

Our UX team has reworked the Battle Pass item previews to more easily identify the type of reward you are getting. The Home/Away and the Celebrations customization screens have also gotten a fresh coat of paint! Check it out below.

Patch 9 (also tentatively™ planned for the end of February) will introduce more character customization slots, up to six total, for those of you who express themselves through fashion as much as they do through their plays! Player reporting will also be made more easily accessible.

Last but not least, the Fireball Limited Game Mode will make its return in Patch 9 (not sorry Isagi wannabes). We're also looking into cycling LTMs, although this is still in the early design stages. We'll keep you updated on that front!

This is a non-exhaustive list of changes and new features, but this should give you a rough idea of what to expect for the rest of Season 2. We have A LOT planned this year, and this is only a small bit of our plans moving forward. We still want to share a long-term roadmap with you soon for what's coming in 2026!

Patch 7 Feedback

It’s been almost a month since the launch of Patch 7 and Season 2, and we’re happy with the overall response! Many of you have shared how much you’re enjoying the new additions, such as the new dribbling move to the bug fixes that have helped make matches feel smoother and more responsive. This feedback is incredibly encouraging and gives us confidence that we’re moving in the right direction. Patches 8 and 9 will continue to build on the foundation laid by Patch 7.

We’ve also seen some thoughtful discussions around areas that could use further improvement, such as the Quick Play leaver penalty and the variety of unique content in the Battle Pass and the Shop. These are valuable conversations, and we’d like to take the time to address them more thoroughly in a future post. Whether you’re sharing praise, ideas, or concerns, your feedback helps us better understand what works and where we can do better, and we’ll keep listening as we move forward.

Overall, it’s been great to see such a positive community response. Many of you have been sharing clips, starting constructive discussions, and celebrating great moments from your matches, and a lot of the most visible conversations reflect that energy.

Community Spotlight

They show a deep understanding of the game, and highlight some ways we want the game to be played, with tactical thinking and role rotations. Esports

We've touched upon esports in our previous post, but to reiterate:

Official, Sloclap-run competitions are still a long way off, and Rematch isn’t quite ready yet for high-stakes competitive play. We don’t ever want a match or a tournament result to come down to an unlucky bug, and the game simply needs more time to be polished before we go that far. That said, the competitive spirit is already very much alive. Several community groups are running their own tournaments, sometimes on a pretty big scale, and that’s something we're both impressed by and excited to see. While we keep improving Rematch, we’re slowly exploring ways to support and sponsor these community-run events, and to give players more reasons to jump in and compete. This is a gradual process, but it’s a direction we’re excited about as the game gets better, patch after patch.

We are currently working with 3 major competitive actors in Rematch Federation, Major Rematch Championship, and The Elite, who have run several tournaments on their own, some even in-person, to great success! We are partnering with them to hold higher stakes events in order to help the competitive scene thrive while we focus on improving Rematch!

Patch 8 Beta is now live!

You can expect some of the changes mentioned earlier in this post planned for Patch 8, but also a few gameplay tweaks we want you to try ahead of Patch 9! The earlier we get your feedback, the more time we have to act on it and polish the game before we release it live. This is something we have done with the 1v1 LTM that you have been able to test in the Patch 7 Beta for an eventual Patch 8 release. As stated earlier, the Outfield Dive rework, currently planned for Patch 8, might be postponed to Patch 9 depending on its reception. The new Dribble Lob Push Ball move, planned for Patch 9, will also be made available in the Patch 8 Beta so we can start gathering your feedback ahead of time.

• Leaving the match as a GK, reconnecting and then re-assuming the GK role will cause the glove VFX to be misplaced.

• The outfield dive deflect fails if an opponent player is placed very closely and performs a ball control.

• Switching between the M&K and controller will hide the mapped buttons. 

• The user is removed from an active Match if they accept a Squad Invite after a Match Found prompt is shown in the Main Menu. 

• The extra effort changes direction when triggered during transition. 

• Inputting the pushball/dash input during a dash will trigger the second dash even if the defense mode is not held.

• The volley shot animation and SFX not canceled while failing a duel against opponent player sometimes.

• Rare issue where the ball is desync and teleported behind the goalkeeper while catching it with a dive sometimes.

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since we've done one of these. A lot has happened, so we thought we'd give you a quick recap of what we've been working on lately for Patch 7, and what's to come. We won't delve too much into our "bigger plans”, this is something you'll discover alongside our roadmap next year.

Ranked Rewards

As Season 1 comes to a close, we’re rolling out end-of-season Ranked rewards to celebrate your climb. This time, the reward is a set of shorts, designed to match the Season 0 shirts that were handed out at the end of last season. Just like in Season 0, these rewards are reserved for players who peaked at Platinum rank or higher. You’ll receive the shorts for your highest achieved rank, plus every rank below it down to Platinum. Note that there are currently no plans to retroactively grant the Season 0 shirts. We believe in lasting "bragging rights" and that "you had to be there", but we’ll be keeping a close eye on player feedback and reception as we move forward with this decision.

Battle Pass Progression

One of the main pain points we've heard about the Battle Pass was that progressing through it felt like too much of a grind. Our goal is for more players to actually enjoy and unlock the cool rewards it has to offer, so we’re making some large changes. The XP required per Battle Pass token has been reduced from 1,750 to 800, with tier token costs adjusted accordingly, resulting in a smoother and faster unlock curve from start to finish. Looking ahead, we’re exploring new systems (such as daily and weekly missions for instance, though not confirmed at this time) to make Battle Pass progression more engaging as well.

1v1 Limited Time Mode

Some of you already got a taste of our 1v1 Limited Time Mode during the beta, and we want to thank you for all the feedback and bug reports you sent our way. We deliberately put this mode in your hands earlier than we usually would, so we’d have the extra time needed to polish the experience and fix issues we simply wouldn’t catch on our own. As a reminder, the 1v1 LTM is scheduled to officially release with Patch 8 in late January, and will be available in Custom Matches as well!

Discord-themed Items & Custom Titles

Earlier this month, Discord awarded us the “Breakout Hit” badge for being one of the fastest-growing communities on the platform, and that’s entirely thanks to you. We celebrated the milestone by giving away 20 one-year Discord Nitro subscriptions (kindly offered by Discord) on our official server. But there's more! To further honor the community, we're working on several Discord-themed player card items, completely free, available to everyone, and with no time limit. 

We’re also exploring custom player titles for winners of major community events, like tournaments or our Clip of the Month contest on Discord. All of this is tentatively planned to roll out with Patch 9. We realize this is a long way off, but that's how long it takes for new items to arrive for any given update while respecting our patch development cycle.

Esports

When it comes to esports, we want to be upfront with you. Official, Sloclap-run competitions are still a long way off, and Rematch isn’t quite ready yet for high-stakes competitive play. We don’t ever want a match or a tournament result to come down to an unlucky bug, and the game simply needs more time to be polished before we go that far.

That said, the competitive spirit is already very much alive. Several community groups are running their own tournaments, sometimes on a pretty big scale, and that’s something we're both impressed by and excited to see. While we keep improving Rematch, we’re slowly exploring ways to support and sponsor these community-run events, and to give players more reasons to jump in and compete. This is a gradual process, but it’s a direction we’re excited about as the game gets better, patch after patch.

Leaver Penalty

We’ve enabled the leaver penalty to keep matches fair and flowing the way they’re meant to. If you intentionally leave a game, you’ll now get a 3-minute cooldown during which you won’t be able to queue for any game mode. This timeout is designed to discourage disruptive behavior and, as a temporary stopgap, help prevent an exploit where the ball can get stuck after the controlling player disconnects on purpose (a proper fix is being worked on). In-game moderation is also a hot topic internally, with various systems currently being designed. Our goal is to protect the competitive integrity of Rematch while keeping the experience smooth and fun for everyone on the pitch.

Player Feedback

Player feedback is something we keep a very close eye on. The Patch 7 beta saw a huge amount of participation, and it directly helped in shaping the game: the new Dribble Push Ball variation (there are now a long and a short variation of the move) exists because players asked for it during the Beta. That kind of back-and-forth is exactly how we want Rematch to evolve (albeit not all player requests can be implemented on such a short notice). Looking ahead to Patch 8, you can expect more movement and core gameplay changes as a continuation to the tweaks made in Patch 7. We’ll also be carefully monitoring your thoughts on recent additions like the goalkeeper punching move, shorter match timers, and the new leaver penalty, and we’ll keep adjusting as we go.

Closing Words

To wrap things up, we genuinely feel that Rematch is moving in a good direction. The last few months haven’t been perfect, but the recent feedback has been encouraging and it tells us we’re on the right track.
