Hello farming friends!

We are SO happy that you're all enjoying Petunia's Purgatory! Thank you so much for supporting our creepy little farming game.

We're also very appreciative of all the great feedback and bug reports we've received from y'all, both here and in our Discord. We've got a small patch today to fix a couple of the more common issues.

We have some bigger changes coming, but those will take a little longer. Thank you for your patience and keep an eye out for future announcements!

Patch Notes:

Made it more clear in the Sanity tooltip that you can overmax your sanity. The previous version was a little confusing

Fixed a bug where crafting sprites would stop working if you move them around. Lazy birds!

We wanted to give you a peek inside the development process of how we created the characters in Petunia's Purgatory. For each character, we shared our ideas with our concept artist Emmy, and she took our ideas and turned them into a digital sketch of each character. Then, our pixel artist Alex took each sketch and used it to create a pixel art version of the character and animated each character. Here is what each of the characters looked like as a concept and the final pixel art!

Howdy! Dead Possum Games here to introduce you to the supporting cast of Petunia's Purgatory: The Sprites!

The Elder One's hunger is never-ending and Petunia will need help fulfilling all of his orders. Luckily, you'll be able to summon some helpers to assist her.

The Water Sprite

A gentle, translucent being made of pure spring water, the Water Sprite is the perfect assistant to keep your crops well hydrated. You may wonder how she can water plants without a watering can... but it's probably better if you don't think about it too hard.

The Harvest Sprite

At first glance, you might assume that this little critter is just a squirrel, but looking closer you may have doubts. Maybe it's the odd horns on its head or its unsettling red eyes. Regardless, the Harvest Sprite is great at picking up crops and carrying them around, not unlike the rodent it resembles.

The Blood Sprite

Some of the crops that the Elder One desires need more than just water to grow. That's where the Blood Sprite comes in, a strange creature in its own right. It may have once been a rabbit, but now it only serves the Elder One, capturing nearby animals and sacrificing them for their nutrient-rich blood. But don't worry, it doesn't hurt them... much.

The Flower Sprite

Being surrounded by unnatural plants and blood rituals ever day would drive even the bravest farmer mad. Luckily, growing something beautiful can calm Petunia's turbulent mind. The Flower Sprite, a cheerful little pixie, can help tend fields of lovely flowers and keep Petunia feeling her best.

The Crafting Sprite

Raw produce will only satisfy the Elder One for so long. Eventually, it will hunger for more complex flavors. This resourceful avian fellow, the Crafting Sprite, is ready to assist, churning crops into delicious jams and jellies. We don't know where exactly he learned how to do this, but we don't ask questions.

Serving the Elder God is hard work, but with the help of her motley crew of sprites (and your assistance), Petunia might just have a chance!

Mark your calendars because Petunia is ready!

She lives at the bottom of your screen.. quietly waiting, holding her sanity together while you do literally anything else...

Cursed crops nobody asked for, mutant animals slaughtered for blood (because apparently that's just a Tuesday now), and an ancient landlord in the barn that's been alive longer than memory itself and is always, always hungry..

Hello, this is Dead Possum Games. We'd like to introduce you to the main character of Petunia's Purgatory, and tell you a little bit about how she ended up living on this strange farm. Petunia Buttonwillow was tired of taking orders. While working at the Forde Brothers ad agency, she had to take orders from everyone: her clients, her boss, her boss' boss, and on and on. One day, after coming home from a stressful day in the office, she spotted a bankruptcy auction for a quaint little farm in nearby Dunwich. She'd always been good with plants, and it felt like the universe was giving her a sign that it was time to take control of her life. Petunia arrived at the courthouse for the auction and found that, besides some scattered locals, she was the only one there. The locals eyed her curiously when she was the only one to bid on the farm, and she got it for next to nothing. The auctioneer handed Petunia an ancient deed, written in faded ink with edges frayed and torn. Some parts were written in curious characters that Petunia didn't understand. She shrugged her shoulders and signed the contract, and so the farm was hers! As soon as she finished signing, Petunia heard a voice behind her. "No one's ever lasted more than a month on that farm." Petunia turned around and saw an old woman standing behind her. "They all lost their minds. Land's cursed, they say." The old woman walked away as Petunia stood there, stunned. Petunia arrived at the farm and tentatively took a look around. After the old woman's warnings she expected something a lot creepier, but it was perfect. A barn, open land, everything she needed to build her new life. The barn looked old, but sturdy. She pushed open the doors and peered inside. It was pitch black, the light from the sun seemingly swallowed up a few feet in. It made her uneasy, gazing into the darkness, so she quickly closed the doors. She spotted a note nailed to the door, was that there before? "Three bushels of carrots" Did she already have a customer? Could this be the start of a new life for Petunia, or is she destined to take orders from a new master?

Happy May from the Petunia's Purgatory team! We're hard at work developing the final features for Petunia's Purgatory. We recently added a Twitch integration that will be available in the full game at launch. The Twitch integration will allow streamers to let their viewers join in the game as a helper with their Twitch username above their head. The helper will either water plants, harvest crops, tend flowers, sacrifice animals, or manage crafting machines. We're excited to announce that our team has reached the Content Complete milestone. You might be wondering what it means for a game to be content complete? It means that everything we've been planning to be in the game can actually be played. This is huge step towards releasing the game! What's left for us to do: final testing and bug fixing, writing the rest of the text, and then getting the text translated and testing the translated versions. The finish line is in sight! We've just updated the demo with brand NEW crop art for all of the crops. We've also fixed a bunch of bugs and adjusted the game based on some great feedback from y'all.

Howdy Farmers!
