If setting things alight is your specialty, The Draugur’s Lantern has you covered. Check out this new unique item coming in 3.29.1.
Over the weekend, we launched Path of Exile 1: Curse of the Allflame, and it's been fantastic to see so many of you plunging in to explore everything the expansion has to offer.
As with any major launch, we've been closely monitoring your feedback and the game's performance. We'd like to take a moment to provide an update on how the launch has progressed so far, outline the issues we've already addressed, and share what the team is currently focused on resolving.
We will be deploying balance changes to Charts and Voyages to make them more enticing and rewarding. These changes include:
You will no longer need to collect upgrade pieces for Vesper to enable Diviner, Arcanist or Operative strongboxes spawning in Charts and Voyages; they will now appear by default above area level 67.
Various lower value objects will no longer be pointed to by Allflame Lantern indicators, such as soothing coral and crab nests.
Crab nests will be made far less common.
Currency, Scarab, Stacked Deck and Map chests will be made much more common as scattered objects in Charts and Voyages, more so than just the comparative gain in occurrence rate from lowering that of Crab Nests.
Golden Lanterns will also grant increased Quantity of items dropped by slain monsters.Dead End and Straight Line charts will be made less common than other types, to make Voyages easier to construct.
There will be between 20 and 40% more scattered lootable objects for Lanterns to point to in Charts and Voyages, depending on the specific Charts used.Quantity and Rarity values granted by Chart Modifiers will all be raised by 20-40%.We will be adding a new chest which can appear in Charts and Voyages, Sunken Opulence. This one will be coming in our next restart patch, as it cannot be deployed as part of a hotfix.
Ducat crafting will be unlocked much earlier in the meta-progression for Curse of the Allflame, only requiring three upgrades turned into Vesper, rather than five.
We will be enabling some missing currencies to be used with Allflame crafting, such as Ancient Orbs and Orbs of Chance.
We will be adding the ability to open the Voyage board for your currently ongoing Voyage, to see where you are in the Voyage and what modifiers are affecting it, so you can plan your movement through it accordingly.
We've also seen requests to allow Charts to be launched directly from the Bathysphere rather than requiring players to speak to Valerie every time. We will be adjusting this so that you can begin a chart from the Bathysphere directly, and only Voyages will require speaking to Val.
Finally, we've received feedback regarding the Allflame Lantern placement. While manually placing lanterns generally produces good results, automatic placement can occasionally position the lanterns in awkward terrain, making encounters more frustrating than intended. We will be releasing a fix that addresses this issue.
Other improvements are ongoing, we will get as much into this patch as possible while also releasing it as quickly as possible to players, so there may be more than is listed here.
Abyss encounters didn’t land in terms of reward, and in some cases combat and density, so there will be iteration coming over the next few days to improve Abysses significantly.
We've seen significant discussion around the new Luminary Ascendancy. Many players feel that permanent Mercenaries aren't contributing enough power compared to the investment required, particularly when entering higher tier maps for the first time.
Due to it being difficult to specialise into a specific Mercenary during the campaign, the less Damage penalty permanent Mercenaries have compared to temporary Mercenaries now tapers in throughout out the game, with no penalty before level 45, with the maximum penalty being reached at level 83.
Secondly, we have adjusted the damage scaling of attack damage dealing hired Mercenaries, so they are more effective in the endgame.
To help players find more powerful Mercenaries, Infamous Mercenaries now spawn more commonly. This also increases the rewardness of Mercenaries for all players that are dueling Mercenaries in maps.
Mercenary skills now more frequently have more support gems in Maps.
To aid in obtaining a stronger Mercenary, while you have a weaker one, we have added a new notable to the Atlas Passive Tree that causes all allied Mercenaries to deal more damage to other Mercenaries and Rogue Exiles.
We're also reviewing how Mercenary deaths interact with mapping. Currently, if a Mercenary dies during a map, players can't simply re-enter to revive them, which can make losing a map feel unnecessarily punishing.
Bugs
Alongside gameplay feedback, we're actively working through a number of bugs reported since launch. The following below is not a comprehensive list, but some of the critical issues under investigation:
We're aware of reports of Deadlock crashes and are actively investigating them. We'll deploy fixes as soon as they're ready.
Caster Mastery opening league mechanic chests without granting the intended buffs.
Allflame guidance arrows continue to point towards chests that have already been opened automatically.
Chart storage not behaving consistently with the Map Stash Tab.
Reports that Mana Infused Staff isn't interacting correctly with Ignite.
Mercenary minimap icons not being removed.
Reports of Legion’s breaking out early without all the monsters or chests with reward icons having been tagged.
As always, we're also fixing many other issues as they're identified.
We'll continue monitoring your feedback, making balance adjustments where appropriate, and releasing hotfixes as soon as they're ready.
Thank you for all of your bug reports, videos, feedback and patience while we continue improving Curse of the Allflame. We'll have more updates to share soon!
In the Curse of the Allflame league, you'll be able to earn four new free cosmetic rewards by completing 40 new challenges. Better yet, every reward you unlock can also be used in Path of Exile 2!
At 12, 24, 32, and 36 challenges you’ll receive the Oceanic Weapon Effect, Fangtooth Moray Pet, Captain’s Wheel Back Attachment and Oceanic Portal Effect respectively. Completing challenges also grants you pieces of the Allflame Challenger Trophy Hideout Decoration! These cosmetic rewards are purely visual and do not affect your character's power or progression in any way.
In Ruthless you’ll receive these microtransactions at 2, 4, 6, and 8 challenges completed.
Whether you're planning your league starter or looking for new endgame build ideas, this showcase sheds some light on how the Luminary opens up entirely new ways to play by commanding Mercenaries, enhancing Link skills, and creating powerful party-inspired gameplay.

Discover sunken artefacts and battle the horrors of the deep in Path of Exile: Curse of the Allflame. Our July expansion introduces a new challenge league, significant improvements to Abyss and Legion, the return of the Mercenaries of Trarthus, another new Ascendancy Class for the Scion, an all-new endgame system, and much more!
Meet Valerie, a dangerous corsair captain who needs your help retrieving long forgotten treasures from the icy depths of Wraeclast's oceans. Find Charts scattered across Wraeclast, board The Sovereign, and set sail! Dive to the ocean floor where lanterns imbued with the spark of the Allflame will shield you from the crushing waves. Explore and claim what you can while you can! Lost gold, valuable chests, and lurking threats await you... As the lanterns flicker and fade you'll need to rush back to the safety of the Bathysphere, to escape the clawing creatures that despise the light you bring. Once you have charted enough areas, connect them together to create a Voyage - one giant seafloor excursion. Revisit each chart to claim its rewards again, while also amplifying those rewards in several different ways. Any area you chart reveals a modifier that applies during a Voyage. The edges of the Voyage Board also feature randomised effects that influence adjacent Charts each Voyage, adding extra rewards. Head belowdecks, and you'll find the heart of the ship at work. Feed it an item, and it will split into a multitude of ghostly outcomes, one of which you can keep for yourself. Find valuable Ducats on the seafloor and use them to warp and twist items in ways not seen in centuries. The Mercenaries of Trarthus are once again roaming Wraeclast, seeking challengers. Defeat one in a duel to claim a powerful item they're carrying and recruit them as an ally for the rest of the area. In Maps, if you don't like a Mercenary's items, you can request a Warrant that summons that specific Mercenary in a future Map with the same skills but a new set of items. In Curse of the Allflame, the Scion is getting a new Ascendancy class, the Luminary. Upon becoming a Luminary, you can permanently hire a Mercenary as an active ally in combat. Unlike regular Mercenaries, Luminary's hired Mercenaries can have their equipment changed, unlocking countless new build possibilities. Abyss has been significantly reworked in Curse of the Allflame. Abyssal cracks are now open, spilling their energy into the surrounding area, influencing nearby enemies. Slay them to draw the attention of Abyssal hordes that emerge from the depths to tear you apart. There is now much more visceral feedback in the moment-to-moment gameplay of Abyss with audio and visual cues drawing you along. You can gain Abyssal Jewels and Stygian vises through the Abyss, and this mechanic has also received a complete refresh of Scarabs and passive tree investment. Legion has received a major reward overhaul. Use the new Enshrouding Crystals currency on your Unique Armours, then place them in a crystal within the Domain of Timeless Conflict to create a Vestigial Unique Item with powerful modifiers transferred from the Unique you've selected. Vestigial Unique Items are exclusive to Legion and replace the Incubators. In this expansion, strange locations have begun to manifest across the Atlas. When you complete Maps affected by a Voidstone, there is a chance that an anomaly will appear on the Atlas. Anomalies are areas that can be run once, granting potentially powerful rewards. Examples include Cadiro Perandus, a mysterious trader offering strange curios for your Gold, or a fully revealed Heist Blueprint wing. There are many anomalies to discover, each tied to a specific Atlas quadrant. Socket colours will no longer restrict which Skills and Supports you can put in them, allowing any gem to be socketed regardless of its colour. The majority of sockets on items are now white, with red, blue and green sockets being fairly rare. Red, blue, and green sockets still serve a purpose, granting additional quality to socketed gems of the matching colour.
Spellcasters have received major improvements across the board, particularly for those that cast Spells themselves. We've rebalanced over one hundred existing spells, trying to add more points of difference for spells of different damage types.
The Assassin, Inquisitor and Occultist Ascendancies all have new or reworked notables supporting Casters.
We have improved caster itemisation, particularly staves, added new ways to help solve Mana as a caster, buffed several caster Unique Items, and much more.
In this expansion, we are adding a new set of Exceptional Skill Gems called Pacts that you can get from Beyond bosses and Lycia in the Forbidden Sanctum. Make a bargain with a powerful Beyond Demon to empower your Spells at the cost of afflicting yourself.
In addition we've added a new reservation skill for spellcasters using staves called Mana-Infused Staff, as well as several new Transfigured Skill Gems.
