We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make the world of Patchkins Party even more fun and competitive. We’re excited to share this major update with you, featuring brand-new content and a wide range of fixes that make the gameplay experience much smoother.

It’s time to experience the concept art we showed last time brought to life — and much more!

✨ NEW FEATURES

A Brand-New Experience: Tethered Mode!

Are you ready to make things a little more complicated — and a lot funnier? The brand-new Tethered Mode has been added to the game. In this mode, you’ll need to use your reflexes in completely new ways to survive and outplay your opponents.

New Map & Dynamic Scaling:💥

A new map has been added to bring a fresh layer of competition to the game! In addition, all maps now scale dynamically based on the number of players. Whether you’re playing with a small group or a full lobby, the play area will always stay at the ideal size for the action.

4 New Interactive Objects🥰

To increase the chaos on the course, 4 new mechanical objects have been added: Seesaw, Spinning Wheel, Pipe, and Punch Machine. Watch out for them while jumping, running, and dodging!💀

New Characters and Instruments🎶

2 brand-new Characters have been added so you can show off your style, along with 2 new instruments to bring even more rhythm to the game.

Redesigned Lobby Screen

The lobby creation and selection screens have been completely reworked. You can now create and join games through a much smoother and more user-friendly interface.

🛠️ BUG FIXES

Based on your feedback, we’ve fixed many issues:

• Connection Issues: General connection problems experienced by players have been fixed.

• Camera and Borders: Map borders and camera follow settings have been updated to work more consistently.

• In-Game Adjustments: Several trigger-related issues that occurred while using in-game mechanics have been fully resolved.

• Chaos Mode Balance: Some problematic cards have been removed from the Chaos Mode deck, and the overall flow of the mode has been improved.

• Animation and UI: Issues with costume animations and visual bugs on the celebration screen have been fixed.

• Sound and Music: Various sound effect improvements have been made, and issues related to background music have been resolved.

• Localization: Missing translations and localization issues throughout the game have been completed.

Last time, we talked about how the track changes when you crazy players start messing around too much!

And with our new players heading into the Demo (which is available here, by the way!)

Now is the time to answer a very important question:

How do you actually win in Patchkins Party?

Beyond the Finish Line

We knew early on that we didn't want Patchkins to be a simple race where the fastest player wins every round. So sometimes... You can win while already dead. 💀

And I know you're thinking: "But Patchbro, how do I win if I'm dead?!"

Well, I'm here to spill the tea! So listen up!

Different Ways To Score

Patchkins Party uses multiple scoring types during a match. That means every round becomes its own little mind game.

Here are some of the ways you can score:

• Solo Finish - Reach the finish alone and claim the spotlight.

• First Finish - Cross first while at least 2 or more players in the field!

• Autopsy Finish - Yes, this one is real. If your corpse reaches the finish line... it still counts.

• Best Drawing - The best and most precise drawing will yield points!

• Coin Finish - Bring the coin object to the finish and secure the score.

• Snowball - Everyone scores points if a player doesn't score in two rounds.

Winning Isn't Always Pretty

The scoring system rewards creativity and risk-taking. If a player has lost in the early rounds, they still have a chance to recover later in the game; likewise, a player who runs perfectly can also be punished if they make a mistake.

Comebacks Matter

We wanted matches to stay competitive and unpredictable from start to finish. That is why comeback mechanics matter; it's possible to recover from a few bad rounds! And honestly? Some of the funniest moments come from players who looked completely screwed five rounds ago.

Don't give up early, lil bro! This ain't over until it's over!

One Winner Only

Now for the most serious business of all. If players end the match with equal points, the game moves into a tie-break round. There can only be one winner. 😈

Now it is time to talk about what happens after that.

The Track Never Stays the Same

In Patchkin's Party, the map evolves every round through player input, and how you decide to impact the race is in your hands, after the drawing phase:

The race begins, and you go through the obstacles to make it as far as possible.

Platforms, Obstacles, and Specials

Objects in Patchkins fall into different categories: Utility, Platforming, and Destruction.

You choose your own playstyle. (The guy writing this says he prefers to wait until the last second before placing an item that will grief a recently placed utility.)

Helping Yourself vs Ruining Everyone Else

Remember, you only get 1 item, 1 draw per round, use it wisely!

(We all know you're gonna use the boomerang anyway, aren't you?! 😆)

Objects Stay Between Rounds

One of the biggest decisions we made was allowing objects to remain on the map between rounds.

I mean, look at this, LOOK AT THIS! 👆

How would you even traverse this?!

Balancing Chaos and Fairness

This was one of the hardest parts of development.

Chaos is fun. But if the map becomes impossible too quickly, nobody enjoys it.

We spent a lot of time adjusting:

• Object placement rules

• Round pacing

• How much control players have over the map

• Which objects create fun problems instead of frustrating ones

We focused on making things fun while stretching the capabilities of the system to its limit.

Player-Driven Maps

One of the coolest things about Patchkins is that players naturally create their own stories through the map itself.

And now you can also participate and create some hellscapes for your friends to fall face-first into!

Welcome back to another Patchkins Party devlog.

Today, we are talking about one of the most important parts of the game: the drawing system (Codex).

While we have the traditional game mode where you can pick 1 item to grief place on the map to make life difficult for your friends, we focus on why we put so much soul into the drawing system.

Think fast, but draw faster!

At the start of each round, every player gets a short window to draw an object.

Sounds simple enough, right? NAHHHH!

You need to sketch the shape of the object you want before time runs out. If you succeed, that object is yours to place anywhere on the map. If you fail, you will have to race without it. (And look like an ass, literally.)

Why Drawing?

We wanted players to participate before the start of the race, so we experimented with different ways to include drawing and other preparation.well

Being able to rapidly draw a trap, place it on the game board, and watch your friends panic and change their strategy because of your evil plan fills you with a feeling of pride and accomplishment.

It also creates some of the best moments in the game.

Why Timing is Important

If there were no timer, everyone would just draw very carefully, then move on, but with a timer, all of a sudden, everything becomes very frantic.

There is pressure on you to make a decision, create a drawing quickly, and save yourself at the last second.

The addition of a timer to an existing mechanic makes it something that can be comedic and unpredictable, but also stressful to create quality drawings under the same pressure.

Making It Feel Right

The drawing system went through a lot of iterations.

Early versions were either too strict or too forgiving. Sometimes a good drawing would fail to register. Other times, the game was a little too generous. Finding the right balance was important.

Final thoughts

We quite enjoyed working on this feature, which is what Patchkins is at its core: Enjoyment and a love letter to the genre of game we love playing, and embedded in it, the kind of moments we want to create for you. The players.

We are proud of how the Codex system turned out and can't wait to see what players come up with in their runs to cause as much mayhem as possible.

What is Patchkins?

Patchkins is a multiplayer racing game for 2–4 players where the track evolves during the match. Players draw objects, place them on the map, and race to the finish while avoiding traps and outplaying their friends.

Who is developing Patchkins?

Patchkins is developed by Lavega Games, an independent studio focused on game and software development.

What other games has Lavega Games made?

Lavega Games has previously released several mobile titles, including:

During the drawing phase, players use a gesture system to sketch objects within a limited time. If the drawing is successful, the player receives that object and can place it on the map.

What happens if I fail the drawing?

If the drawing is not completed within the time limit, the player continues the round without receiving an object.

What kinds of objects can players place? Objects are divided into three categories:

• Platforms – help players move across the map

• Obstacles – make the track more dangerous for opponents

• Special objects – unique items with special effects

Do objects stay on the map permanently?

Objects placed during rounds remain on the map for the rest of the match, allowing the course to evolve.

How do players win a round?

Players win the round by reaching the finish line without dying.

How does the scoring system work?

Patchkins includes several scoring types that reward different situations during the match.

What happens if everyone finishes the round?

If all players reach the finish line successfully, no finish points are awarded. Only the Best Drawing score is given.

How is the overall winner decided?

Points accumulate across rounds. The player with the most points at the end wins the match.

What happens if there is a tie?

Tied players enter a tie-break round where the first player to reach the finish line wins the match.

Will more content be added to the game?

The object pool and gameplay features are planned to expand as development continues.

Where can players follow updates or contact the team?

Players will be able to follow updates, share feedback, and interact with the community through the official Patchkins Steam page, Discord server, and other social platforms.

We’ve been cooking this one for a while, and we’re finally ready to show it!

Patchkins Party is our first major PC title, a 2D Platforming racing game where you try to beat your friends to the finish line while making sure they never reach it! 😈

So you want to know more, good! 

At its core, Patchkins Party is a party game where you race and troll your friends.

Each match plays out in rounds. You get a quick look at the map, then you can draw your items to help you reach the end or prevent your friends from doing so.

If you draw it properly, you can place it anywhere on the map. Help yourself, block your friends, or set up a truly evil contraption. 💀

There are multiple ways to get that W in Patchkins Party. We’ll be making a full devlog about them at a later date, but for now, we can say that you will definitely enjoy what we’ve cooked up on the scoring system!

With multiple ways to score, we want you to take risks, play dirty, just have fun memeing around, and pray that it works! (Don’t forget you can win if you eliminate them all, btw. 😉)
