Full Steam announcements and update articles for this title.
Hi everyone!
It's been a while since we've given a detailed update and many of you have been waiting for a devlog, so let's get down to business! You can read the full devlog over on Itch.io, but we'll summarize the important points below!
First, Paper Lily's development.
In terms of development progress: it's still advancing, but lately it's been really slow. There are months in which we work pretty intensely and months in which we don't have time to get any progress done at all, which is a pretty inconsistent workflow.
In general we prefer not to give away much, but we can share a few details about Chapter 2:
Ch2 will have 1 large location composed of 15+ scenes, 2 smaller areas (one of which is the lighthouse) + the black pass and other doorknob locations. Several of these still need to be sprited and have their puzzles designed.
Depending on your actions in Ch1, up to 4 characters from the forest area might be back in Ch2.
Sai's gonna have kind of a bad time in chapter 2.
We're looking into making "Little Kat's" shop a bigger part of the game: Our hope is that you'll be able to buy some extra items with coins that can help you in certain quests or can alter the storyline in little ways.
Hiro will take on a slightly bigger role!
We realize it's been a long time, and in our last update we said we were considering a chapter by chapter release. This means it's about time for Chapter 2 to be out, right?
Well... not quite.
We're still not quite fond of the chapter-by-chapter release idea for Paper Lily, so IF we keep it, they might all be released very close to each other (we're talking a few months apart at most). We have two main reasons for this. First, the game is heavily intertwined and we do a lot of back and forth between chapters when making it. Second, you guys theorize about the story... A LOT. We suspect that with enough time and detailed analysis of chapter 2 and its secrets, some people could come close to figuring out many future story details, and we'd like to avoid that :)
Basically, right now we're working on the whole game and not just Chapter 2. We're gonna keep going in this direction, despite not having a very clear release idea/deadline in mind. This means it'll be a while, we're talking years still. If we could somehow work on this full-time, that'd be the dream. But life unfortunately doesn't allow it at the moment.
We could not be more grateful for your patience, your messages, your posts, and overall for helping to keep Paper Lily alive and active all this time. Managing everyone's expectations can be hard, which is why we aren't very vocal about our plans/promises. Things will keep changing and there's no reason to keep you all tangled in our scrambling.
We'll do our best though, as usual!
Well, maybe a few of you may have noticed...
We're pretty excited to announce a little game (this time it really will be little, promise!) that we've been working on occasionally.
Here's a few details about Rich Flavors:
The genre is comedy/mystery with some light horror/gore elements.
Current state: Lots of assets are done, but have only started being implemented in the engine recently (our programming department has been focusing more on PL).
It will not be free (estimated under 10 dollars).
The planned release is 2026.
3 endings planned.
Official translations will be considered after release.
It will NOT be set in the same universe as Paper Lily.
It will be available on Steam and Itch.io.
This was initially a concept for a game jam that we didn't end up participating in. We've only put a couple of months time into its development (scattered throughout the past year) when we wanted little breaks from Paper Lily. That said, we're not abandoning Paper Lily! In fact, this project will aid Paper Lily both by contributing to its code and finances.
So... we'll see what the future holds. Thanks for reading! Even if you're only here for Paper Lily, we still hope to be able to surprise you with something different every now and then.
Please make sure to wishlist Rich Flavors if you want to be notified of its release, and remember you can follow us in all these different places:
