Noun Town is leaving Early Access 🎉

When we launched Noun Town in Early Access back in November 2023, we said we'd be in EA for three months to a year. It's been a bit longer than that - and honestly, thank you for sticking with us.

We used that time well to deliver on all of our Full Release guidance. Here's what we shipped:

• Grew from 6 languages to 12, adding Korean, Russian, Greek, Spanish (MX), Egyptian Arabic, and the ability to learn English from your native language

• Built out LINK (in Settings), syncing your progress across the Noun Town ecosystem

• Added full Steam Deck support

• Kept expanding the world with new content like no-speech input, furigana for Japanese learners, achievements, added progress tracking, and hundreds of bug fixes and quality of life improvements

None of this would have happened without the players who bought in early, left reviews, posted in the forums, and joined our Discord. You shaped what Noun Town became.

Since we started, over 200,000 people have played across the Noun Town ecosystem. We've picked up 3 awards and 7 nominations, been featured in The Guardian, TheGamer, and two IGN showcases, and even been selected for a Steam "Daily Deal". For an indie language learning game, that still blows our minds.

We also launched Noun Town for Schools - bringing the same approach to classrooms. If you know a teacher who'd find it useful, send it their way.

Leaving Early Access doesn't mean we're done. The Noun Town ecosystem is something we're continuing to think about and grow. With that we're delighted to announce a change to the LINK feature...

• KIOSK - When you 100%'ed a room, the noun kiosk would break. Now it says 100% complete!
• SPEECH REC: SR has been adjusted in Japanese to fix a bunch of small errors, such as 17 not working correctly
• LESSON - Sometimes, getting answers wrong in the test still allow you to pass it. Now you must get them all right! Hohoho.
• NUMBERS- Second stage of finding robot parts wouldn't take controller inputs automatically. Now does!
• LESSONS - Clothes store and Supermarket lessons did not appear for users. Now do!
• CAFE - Unable to correctly learn CD due to word being in lowercase when spoken. Fixed!

• Numbers robots: halved speed and add small explosion radius when trying to hit them
• Animals: too many caused framerate drop. Fixed!
• CAFE: Possible to get stuck behind the Learning Rush machine. Fixed!
• Streak calculation is incorrect: now streaks are correctly counted (no data lost)
• SPORTS HALL - “bat”s (animal) seem to spawn from boxes + break things. Now spawning "bat" (as in baseball) not bat (as in vampire)
• SPANISH DATA: cleaned up the formatting of some learning tips
• LEARNING KIOSK: On the "All items" page, you can now play the object's audio!
• JAPANESE SPEECH: "Futari desu" was returning as "ninin desu". Fixed!
• JAPANESE SPEECH: Swan was always returning as "White bird" (Shiratori) instead of "Swan" (Hakucho). Fixed!
• INBOX: Inbox alert now only shows when unread mail is in inbox
• JAPANESE DATA: Romaji error in a cafe lesson now resolved
• ISLAND RESORT AREA: Collider by bridge now fixed, no falling in the hole for you guys.
• RESORT CHROMOEMITTER: Player can glitch into a stuck location. Not anymore!
• ISLAND BEACH: Gap allows player to get stuck in water. Not anymore!
• LEARNING KIOSK: "Learn more words" button now becomes active after completing all your daily goals, without having to reload the scene
• ZOO: Noun Summary ticks were missing
• DICTIONARY: Can now play the audio of the word from within the dictionary
• TUTORIAL: Japanese text was getting cut-off on the mic check. Fixed!
• JAPANESE ROMAJI x2: Some questions had incorrect romaji (nani instead of nan). Fixed!

• NOUN LEARNING FOR LAST WORDS: The game would ask you to learn five learns, but sometimes there were only 4 or fewer left to do. Now it is dynamic and shows the correct number.
• OBJECT HIGHLIGHTING UI: This would sometimes show when you were in other screens. Now fixed
• SCREEN TEARING for some users: You can now set your VSYNC in SETTINGs.
• UI: If your mouse was hovering over a button, you couldn't used WASD to select another option. Now fixed.
• AUTOPASS Disable: Autopass sometimes would not turn off when the user turned it off. Now it does!
• SPEECH REC FEEDBACK: Sometimes we showed players "NOT HEARD", when we met to show "NOT QUITE". So, we were hearing the word, but the sound was not quite the right word, rather than the mic not working.
• FABRICATOR 4 TOUCHPAD: Some players couldn't open the fabricator as they don't have a middle mouse button. Now you can push F to open it!
• SPEECH REC ISSUE WITH "CD": the word CD had issues, now resolved.
• WORKSHOP SCREEN: We were showing the wrong number of bolts per number. Now fixed.
• PIG OBJECT: The pig object had problems. Now it doesn't.
• NOUN REVIEW "MAYBE LATER": Clicking “Maybe Later” now shows a default button for controller users
• LEARNING RUSH SCORE: Could clip in front of characters. Now doesn't.
• SPEECH RECOGNITION FEEDBACK: Object name + feedback would get cut-off. Now doesn't.
• DELIVERY GAME: Exiting vehicle after waiting for delivery fail timeout will lock the player from moving. Now fixed.
• DELIVERY GAME VFX: Re-added VFX for exiting car when reaching checkpoint
