Community feedback plays an important role in the evolution of NBA 2K and how our team at Visual Concepts continues to push the limits of authenticity, competition, and innovation—both on and off the court. This year, we’ve listened closely to your input, and we’ve made enhancements to several popular features—but you’ll have to tune into the Preseason Breakdown on August 18 for the full reveal.

Until then, we’re excited to give the community an early scouting report with details about gameplay, the MyPLAYER Builder, The City, and more—let’s get into it.
This year, we focused on creating a more balanced, more rewarding gameplay experience with enhancements on both ends of the court. To achieve this fully, we needed to make AI defenders feel more impactful, especially on defense.
AI defenders in 2K27 will now contest shots more effectively, addressing a frequent point of feedback within the community. We recognized that AI defenders could be frustrating teammates in modes like The REC, often surrendering their position easily. Now, they’ll do a better job of contesting shots and won’t be as affected by Triple-Threat Stepovers.
This year, we’re adding a new layer of skill to finishing at the rim: all dunk attempts must now be timed using the Dunk Meter.
In NBA 2K26, the Dunk Meter remained static regardless of what happened mid-air. For NBA 2K27, we've made the meter fully dynamic and created more realistic outcomes in the process. It now continuously evaluates defensive positioning from the moment you take off all the way through the finish.
For example, slashers who beat their defender with a quick first step and attack an open paint will see their green window expand. However, if a defender manages a late closeout after a clean takeoff, that green window will shrink—making the dunk tougher to complete.

NBA 2K27 features 53 total Badges, an increase from the 40 total badges in NBA 2K26. We removed six Badges from last year—but added 19 new Badges and made updates to the returning Badges to ensure a balanced experience. This year, we want to push players toward their strengths and experiment with new Badges to craft builds that are more unique.
Here is a sneak peek at three of the new Badges:
Pace - Increases the overall sprint speed of the ball handler in all offensive situations.
Wall-Up - Decreases the opponent’s shot chance when playing hands-up defense.
Flash - Improves overall movement during transition offense (without the ball) and defense.
Cap Breakers are returning in NBA 2K27, and based on community feedback, players can now see a preview of the attribute boosts directly in the Builder. Gone are the days of creating builds and entering The City repeatedly just to find the most optimized Cap Breaker layout. Enjoy a more streamlined experience and spend more time competing in The City.
We’re eager to see how the community puts these 19 new Badges and Cap Breakers to use—along with a host of other new additions to the MyPLAYER Builder.
For the first time, the Auction House is now unified across PlayStation®5, XBOX Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, representing the largest pool of community-listed cards in MyTEAM history.
This opens the door to more variety in the Auction House and a higher chance of finding cards you’re looking for at more consistent prices.
We’ve also made transactions faster when purchasing cards in the Auction House. In 2K27, there will no longer be a verification delay when you win an auction on PlayStation®5, XBOX Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch 2. This means, when you buy a card it will be available immediately—so you can test your new-look lineup right away.
For NBA 2K27, one of our goals for MyNBA was improving the core franchise experience by taking a grassroots approach. We prioritized community requests, such as including the effects of the second apron in the new CBA and adding the ability to offer No-Trade Clauses to free agents, among many other feature requests and new additions. We strive for authenticity in every facet of NBA 2K, which is why it was important to create a MyNBA experience that reflects today’s league.
We heard from the community that The City’s accessible and centralized layout from NBA 2K26 connected players to games faster, so we’ve decided to run it back—but with a new nighttime, neon aesthetic.
Our team focused its attention on key points of interest around The City, where players will notice multiple attention-grabbing new designs in The REC, Street Kings, Park, and more, each with its own distinct look.
The mecca of street basketball is coming to NBA 2K27. Rucker Park, the legendary New York City court has been recreated in-game, bringing the iconic culture, history, and swagger to Street Kings and this year’s packed MyCAREER prelude story: “Fire & Concrete.” Become a neighborhood hero and knock off Street Kings bosses on this special proving ground.
These exciting updates will be on full display—along with more, important additions—when we take the community on a full tour of The City during the Preseason Breakdown on August 18.

This Season, we’re celebrating college basketball in NBA 2K26. While 2K is building the definitive basketball universe—uniting the NBA, WNBA, and soon the collegiate ranks under one banner—we’re bringing the campus energy to The City and MyTEAM by featuring 16 iconic universities and some of their biggest stars.
Season 5 features all-new content from UCLA, Duke, Arizona, Kansas, Texas, Michigan, Michigan State, Louisville, Purdue, Kentucky, Florida, UNC, Baylor, Houston, Ohio State, and UConn. Celebrate the next generation of players, starring Cameron Boozer and Lauren Betts, ready to carry the torch, while paying homage to the collegiate roots of superstars like Kevin Durant and Paige Bueckers, with a host of college-themed cosmetics and rewards.
Authentically representing the scale of college hoops is an ambitious project that begins with our foundational college basketball experience available in early 2027. We’ll have more details to share on that in the future, but for now, it’s time to get in the spirit and dive into everything Season 5 has to offer.
The NBA, WNBA, and 16 of college basketball’s most esteemed schools joining forces in MyTEAM is a historic moment. Season 5 will include select players from each school’s Men’s and Women’s team, all-new challenges, and special alumni-themed rewards.
The addition of current college stars to MyTEAM calls for celebration. To kickstart your MyTEAM experience during Season 5, we’re gifting players a College Celebration Box with 5 Free Agent Option Packs, allowing you to quickly collect and play with the sport’s leading playmakers. To access your College Celebration Box, visit the Market and it will be available for redemption.
Each pack in the College Celebration Box will contain a selection of current college players, allowing you to choose one card from each pack to build a starting 5. Each player card from the College Celebration Box will be eligible to use for five games, so choose wisely and get started creating one-of-a-kind lineups.
From Season 5’s tipoff through March 30, current college players will be spotlighted daily via Challenge Games. NBA 2K players will be tasked with defeating an all-time version of the reward players’ college team, and upon completion will be rewarded an Evolution 94 OVR Diamond version of the featured college player. Playing 5 games with the player will evolve them to a 96 OVR Pink Diamond, and completing the final stat-based requirements will unlock their 98 OVR Galaxy Opal version!
There are 41 evolution rewards for these current college stars available to earn, starting with Cam Boozer and Lauren Betts, providing plenty of incentive to keep your eye on the prize all Season long. The challenges will rotate through various MyTEAM formats, 3v3 Triple Threat, 5v5 Clutch Time, and Full Lineup games which will use collegiate-inspired rulesets.
This Season, we’re leaning into nostalgia with some blasts from the past, rolling out alumni-themed NBA and WNBA player cards from their college years. Starting with the launch of Season 5, you can collect players from all 16 featured schools, including former Blue Devils, Wildcats, Gators, Buckeyes, and more.
Jumpstart Season 5 with the Level 1 Diamond V.J. Edgecombe Evo card, and showcase the former Baylor product’s explosive athleticism in MyTEAM. Before he launched himself into NBA Rookie of the Year conversations, Edgecombe was a human highlight reel in college, where he put his high-flying skills and defensive prowess on display. Evolve this card into a Pink Diamond by completing Edgecombe’s college career-highs: 30 points in a game, 6 3-pointers in a game, and 7 assists in a game.
Bagley’s lone season as a Duke Blue Devil was a historic one. The versatile stretch forward became the third player in conference history to lead the league in scoring (21 ppg), rebounding (11.1 rpg), and field goal percentage (61.4%). Bagley’s exceptional rebounding and soft touch in the paint made him a walking double-double. The Portland Trail Blazers athletic forward broke out last season with 18.5 points per game and looks poised to make another leap in 2025-2026. A former All-Star and Most Improved Player of the Year, Goran Dragić played with tenacity as a strong slasher and down-hill finisher. The longest tenured player in Miami Heat history, Udonis Haslem earned a wealth of experience and displayed a high basketball IQ during his 20 seasons in the league. Paid premium Passes unlock additional rewards for the Season that are earnable through gameplay. Pro Pass and Hall of Fame Pass not available in South Korea.
