Hi everyone,
Mistaken has been out for almost a week now, so I wanted to share a quick update on where things are at.
So many of you have played the game, left reviews, and shared feedback (and love 🤎). I’m reading everything on both Steam and Discord, and it helps a ton in improving the game for current and future players.
The game now also supports French, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Korean.
If you spot missing or weird translations, please note it on Steam Discussions or Discord.
Your feedback has been super helpful in figuring out what’s working - and what’s not. I’ve been fixing smaller issues along the way and taken the following notes;
Tutorials & guides
Some of you have given feedback on the lack of tutorials and guides, especially in the early game. I’m looking into improving clarity here and I am all ears for feedback and ideas - but it may take some time to get just right.
(Quick tip: A brief in-game guide can be found by clicking ESC / Select on controller, and then clicking the ?)
Balance & Progression I’m actively reviewing drop rates and progression pacing to make things feel fair, and to keep classes reasonably balanced. Keep the feedback coming - what feels good, what feels frustrating.
Bug Fixes As always, fixing bugs is ongoing, and I’ll keep pushing updates regularly. Please keep sharing your feedback in both Steam and Discord community, it's a huge help for me as a solo-developer!
Mistaken has only been out for a few days, but it’s been an absolute pleasure reading and watching all the mostly positive feedback and reception from all of you.
There’s a lot more coming. Thanks for sticking with me while I keep improving things.
Thanks for playing. - Storken
Mistaken has been out for about a day now, and I just wanted to say thank you for all the support so far🤎
From those who played the demo and are now continuing into Early Access, to those just discovering the game - I really appreciate you taking the time to check it out.
I’ve been reading through your feedback on Steam and Discord - here are a few that sum it up pretty well:
“...survival craft game with a gameplay loop that fills a gap I feel has been long desired amongst veterans"
“the gameplay loop is addictive and well balanced” “give this game a go if you have that terraria/valheim craft/fight progress itch”
I also love seeing your bases and character builds - please keep them coming!
Do you have suggestions, bugs, or just want to discuss the game with other players? Feel free to join the Discord.
Early Access is just the beginning, and I’ll be improving and expanding the game based on what you all share.
If you’ve been enjoying the game, a short Steam review really helps a lot during launch - it makes a big difference.
Thank you again for giving the game a chance 🙏
Cheers, Storken
To celebrate the launch, the game is available at a 15% discount for the next 7 days.
If you jump in during the first 7 days of release, you’ll also unlock a celebratory hat as a small token of thanks for supporting the Early Access launch <3
If you run into any bugs or issues, please feel free to report them on the Discord or here in the Steam Discussions, so I can take a look and improve things as quickly as possible.
This has been a long journey, from the early demo days over a year ago to today’s Early Access release, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has followed, played, and shared feedback along the way. Whether you’ve been here since the demo or are just discovering Mistaken now, thank you.
Thank you again for all the support. Enjoy the game.

Very excited to announce that Mistaken finally will be going into Early Access on May 28 2026!!
A lot of work and effort has gone into not only expanding Mistaken but also refining, reworking and improving core systems and gameplay.
For those looking forward to the release, I'm there with you :)
Greetings everyone - hope you’re all doing well.
I’m excited to finally share some news about the Early Access release of Mistaken!
If everything goes according to plan, Mistaken will launch on Steam Early Access in Spring 2026.
A lot of work has gone into the game since the current Steam demo, including new content, improvements to core mechanics, and major design updates.
While it’s a bit nerve-wracking to finally share this publicly, I’m really excited to shed some light on the plans and can’t wait to reveal more as we get closer to launch.
Huge thanks to everyone who has supported the project so far.
Hey everyone!
A new patch for the Mistaken demo is now live! This update focuses on QoL improvements, bug fixes, balancing changes, and a few new items to discover.
Major Changes
Controller Support
Mistaken now has controller support!
This required major input changes, so expect some rough edges and future fine-tuning (like remapping). Steam Deck should work, but haven’t tested yet.
New Settings Options
The settings menu has been expanded with more customization, including:
Toggle for screen shake,
Toggle for controller rumble,
Option to always display certain UI elements (buffs, affliction levels, etc.)
Settings are now also accessible from the main menu, not just in-game.
Pause During Menus
The game now pauses when using inventories or menus, making combat item swaps less stressful.
Not everyone may like this, so a toggle will come later.
New Content and New Items
A beginner magic weapon can now be crafted using tick remains and sticks (good luck experimenting!).,
Several new Cartifacts have been added to make the early game more impactful and rewarding.
Visitor System Changes
Visitors now appear every hour instead of only once per day, still based on your settlement level.,
The Cartifact Trader now always offers 3 different trades instead of just one.,
Balancing
Melee weapons have been slightly buffed.,
Some ranged and magic weapons have been slightly nerfed.,
UI & Tooltips
tem tooltips now factor in your stats when displaying damage and speed.
Tooltips have been improved with clearer details and color coding for better readability.
What’s Next
This will likely be the last major demo patch for Mistaken (aside from small hotfixes).
From here, the focus shifts toward developing and preparing for Early Access—exciting times ahead!
Thanks for playing, and until next time, take care! (edited)
Steam Next Fest brought a wave of lovely new players to Mistaken — along with a ton of great feedback! I’m continuing to work hard on improving the game, and while not everything has been addressed just yet, here are the tweaks and features included in the latest patch:
Resolution settings added with improved ultrawide support. (Note: A 16:9 aspect ratio is still recommended for the best visual experience.)
Fishing drops rebalanced — now include some less desirable items to reduce the frequency of high-value catches. Further tuning may follow.
Health indicators added to iron ore nodes.
Dashing now negates damage from Whispers of Affliction orbs.
Added sound effects when equipping/removing gear and scrolling, for improved feedback and clarity.
Tooltips now correctly update when swapping equipment via right-click.
Enemy spawns during chest swarm events reduced to ease difficulty spikes.
It’s no longer possible to equip two of the same amulet (e.g., two Odd Springs). (This may be relaxed later to allow specific amulet pairings.)
Gathering tools buffed for slightly faster harvesting — especially noticeable early on.
New characters now start with a "Heavy Stick", a basic tool that’s slightly better than bare hands, to improve early-game progression.
Thank you all for playing and supporting Mistaken. – Storken
Hotfix Notes:
Fixed an issue where equipment modifiers were not actually affecting player stats due to a coding error.
Added health bars to rocks, ores, and trees.
Improved fishing visuals.
Music and ambience now correctly switch or turn off when entering and leaving the mine.
Minor UI tweaks for better readability.
A few unannounced fixes were also included in a smaller hotfix earlier today:
Destroyed wall tiles were not correctly dropping as loot.
The Cartifact Pale Devour did not trigger properly when reaching its required threshold.
A small hotfix is now live that addresses a few pretty game-breaking issues:
Fixed an issue where breaking a wall tile would cause any chest placed in front of it to lose its contents. This has (fingers crossed) hopefully been resolved.
Projectiles no longer persist across levels or after character death.
Added a few missing translations.
It should no longer be possible to get duplicate hunger buffs or debuffs.
A few other adjustments, including a shorter respawn time.
Cheers!
The most recent patch introduced a bug that broken some ui elements in the character creation screen - That has now been fixed. Also added a Map and Inventory button in the buttom right part of the screen. Thats all :)
New Patch Live!
After a busy month, I'm back with a fresh update to the demo!
This patch focuses on balancing, quality-of-life improvements, and introduces a brand new NPC system.
Highlights:
Wanderer's Beacon A new placeable item that, when set in your settlement, gives a daily chance for friendly wanderers to appear.
Comfort System The chance of attracting wanderers is based on your Comfort Level, which you can track in the top-right corner of the screen while at home.
Comfort increases by placing furniture and decorative objects in your settlement. Each item shows its comfort value in the tooltip.
New craftable furniture has been added to help boost comfort. (You can now also flip furniture and objects by holding Shift while placing.)
New NPCs Merp: A mysterious cartifact trader who will offer you one of his cards in exchange for a another specific card of his request.
Brenn: A veteran blacksmith that offers reforging of items, by default he is not able to reforge high quality results and requires upgrades provided by the player. More Npcs are in works..
Check it out!
