Today was originally the planned release date for Mark of the Deep: The Cursed Trials. After further review, we’ve made the decision to push the launch back slightly.

The DLC is very close to being ready, but this additional time will allow the team to polish a few remaining elements and ensure the experience meets the quality bar we want for Mark of the Deep.

We know many of you were looking forward to jumping into the Trials today, and we truly appreciate the patience and support while we put the finishing touches in place.

The delay won’t be a long one. The Cursed Trials is still right around the corner, and we’ll share the new release date as soon as it’s confirmed.

Greetings, Adventurers! Today marks a major update for Mark of the Deep, directly inspired by your invaluable feedback. This update introduces significant gameplay improvements, new mechanics, and quality-of-life enhancements to ensure your adventures feel better than ever. We're also excited to announce a special collaboration bundle with the acclaimed roguelike Curse of the Dead Gods.

Update Highlights:

Enemy Improvements

Enemy Stagger System: Enemies and bosses can now be staggered after consecutive hits, adding depth and strategy to combat. The stagger amount scales with the Rookie’s attacks.
Boss Rebalancing:
Takon: Enhanced damage and faster animations make for a more challenging and dynamic encounter.
Nereida: Completely redesigned fight, tailored for better integration with core gameplay.

Rookie Enhancements

Enhanced Roll Mechanics: Rookie now moves faster immediately after rolling, and rolls can interrupt basic attacks at any time for increased fluidity.
Adjusted Hookshot: A new minimum distance requirement has been added, ensuring strategic positioning is essential.

Introducing the In-Game Map

A biome-level map is now available, clearly indicating Rookie’s current position and biome names.

Patch Notes: ✅ Fixed an issue where a crash during the Leviathan Cutscene could cause a softlock, preventing gates from reopening. Now, the gates will always open when reloading. ✅ Fixed an issue where keyboard bindings were not saving properly. ✅ Fixed minor localization issues across various languages. ✅ Fixed a bug where a potion appeared in the inventory before the player had acquired one. ✅ Implemented a new font for Traditional and Simplified Chinese for better readability.

Because of this, we’ve had to make the difficult choice to postpone the game’s release for a couple of months. The game itself is nearly complete, and we hope you’ve had a chance to try it through the demos and beta builds we’ve released on Steam over the past few months. However, in order to address some of the challenges with porting and ensure the game is incredible on all platforms, we will need a little more time. That being said, Mark of the Deep will no longer meet its originally planned launch date this week. This was not an easy decision, and we understand the disappointment it may cause. We don’t want to rely on post-launch patches to improve the game on console platforms, so we firmly believe this extra time will help us deliver the game in its best possible state. Thus, we were able to reconsider and optimize some decisions related to the first areas and the balancing of enemies in the early game. Now, we have decided to introduce a more advanced area of the cursed island into the Playtest: the Abyssal Woods. After our first playtest in April, we decided to alter the structure of Mark of the Deep beta and introduce more game areas in this version. In the previous beta you explored Tidal Stronghold, while in this one Rookie can progress through four new areas:

Western Ruins
Under Ruins
Fishing Village

Some enemy locations changed
We changed how enemies will track the player during an attack. Before it was too precise, giving an unfair feel to the combat. Now the player has a bigger time window to avoid attacks.

Player UI font updated
Vendor, Journal and Stone Tablet screens updated
