A new direction: It’s been almost a year since the release of Mahokenshi, and we've come to realize that we want the title of the game to better reflect the experiences within. We want people who stumble upon Mahokenshi for the first time while browsing Steam to instantly recognize and look forward to the card battling challenges that await. Free DLC & Mission Editor

Hello Samurai!

We’re thrilled to inform you that our biggest update by far is now live, and available for download. As mentioned in our post last week – this update includes a free DLC ,“Mahokenshi - The Designer’s Guide”, a mission editor, and much requested save states! We look forward to seeing your creations uploaded in the workshop. We might even give the creators of the top 3 rated maps a special shoutout in our next post!

Mid-Missions saving now available!

Mission Editor

To give you, the community, replayability we decided to turn the map creation development tool into a feature. As mentioned in the previous news post, this feature will conveniently allow the ability to browse downloaded maps or create your own, allowing you to shape your own maps, one hex at a time! This can mean placing hordes of enemies, setting objectives, creating quests with rewards, and more. It’s an expansive tool directly derived from what the developers used to create the campaign. To create community maps, simply boot up the game, go to ‘Custom Missions’, and select the Mission Editor. Done creating? Test it via the Play button, and if you’re satisfied, click the Publish to Steam button! To play self-created or community created maps, go to the mission browser! Mahokenshi: The Designer's Guide

Today, we are delighted to announce our biggest update by far. Coming April 26th! With these major additions, we wanted to give our community an immense thank you for all the support we have received since launch. We also wanted to show that we have been listening and sought to deliver on your biggest concerns- more content, save-states, and replayability. As a result, we’ve decided to implement three major changes: a brand new mission editor, the ability to save during missions, and a DLC pack with additional maps!

The Mission Editor

This exciting and innovative tool will allow players to create their own maps, giving the community endless possibilities. With the Mission Editor update you will gain access to the Custom Missions menu, where you can conveniently select to browse downloaded or create your own maps. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41047355/c69fa670356f4ac18eff131f1a15d3f7918ca092.gif The Mission Editor will conveniently allow the ability to browse downloaded maps or create your own, allowing you to shape your own maps, one hex at a time! This can mean placing hordes of enemies, setting objectives, creating quests with rewards, and more. It’s an expansive tool directly derived from what the developers used to create the campaign. After you’re done creating a map and you’re satisfied, you can simply upload it to the Steam workshop, making it available for everyone! The community can then download it and try it out via the in-game menus. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41047355/97348092d56b1ed8715ed087769bcb561ecbf895.gif Rating maps will be conveniently done via the workshop as well, giving players a clear way to filter based on their preferences. From here on it’s up to the community to choose your adventure. Read comments, create missions, dive into 5-star rated maps from others, or be a pioneer and try the newly uploaded maps.

Mid-Mission Saving Update

One of the most requested features since launch has been the ability to save at any point during a mission, to allow for as much flexibility as possible while gaming. We saw and we have delivered! This should greatly ease flexibility with gameplay and make for a more enjoyable experience for all players!

The DLC pack: “Mahokenshi - The Designer's Guide”

This pack will include a handful of challenging maps functioning as a guide to show off the potential of the Mission Editor, helping creators to get started. These have been designed to help all players off the ground with learning the fundamentals of how to master our new editor. To start, we have a new demo of the game up for all to play. We wanted to give some more in-depth information about our most recent patch and the reasoning behind it. In this update we went through and changed the values of more than 25 different cards. To decide how to go at this to make for a more fair gaming experience, we investigated which cards had a low success rate among players, meaning cards that were not frequently present in game decks that resulted in a successful mission. We also analyzed strategies that seemed to be picked repeatedly or were more often successful and compare them to the strategies more infrequently used or those that commonly resulted in failures (As an example: poison did not seem to be commonly used or was often unsuccessful in combat, so we came to the decision to boost it). With these changes, players should see more fair gameplay that can allow for mission success with a larger variety of gameplay strategies. • Fix control settings menu weird behavior
• Localization update
• Replaced “Hide card reward” button to include text instead of icon
• “Storm Necklace” talisman now gives 1 AP

Balanced Cards:

• Winged Barrier goes from 12 to 5 Defense and will not require any energy to be used
• Upgraded Winged Barrier goes from 2 to 1 Fly and 15 to 12 Defense and no energy will be spent
• Steel Gust goes from 3 to 4 Strength, Upgraded from 5 to 6 Strength
• Furious Assault goes from 3 to 5 damage for every card in your hand, Upgraded 5 to 7 damage

Greetings Samurai, The turnbased fest is here! Who needs the stress of battling without taking your time and planning your turns in peace? The Turn-based fest is a celebration of these types of games, and Mahokenshi is no different. Put yourself in the shoes of a Mahokenshi in our new Demo. Whether you want to wear the heavy armor of Kaito or sprout your wings like Ayaka, you are needed to save the celestial island of the forces of corruption. Playstyle

Unlike the other Mahokenshi, Kaito prefers being surrounded by his opponents. Although he has multiple deck archetypes and synergies, most of them revolve around stacking defense.

Spikes

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41047355/b94f9029c650fc46c6568fcf6b31c8b7abe59160.gif The best offense is a good defense. Kaito can stack Spikes, icy thorns that hurt enemy attackers, even from afar!

Charge

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41047355/63539f8a951f15c46d524f2fc996b1bd24bb4a52.png Kaito does not dash like other Mahokenshi. Instead, his primary movement option is to Charge towards his opponent. A Charge will allow Kaito to take the shortest possible path to his enemy, even dashing across water.

First Strike / Prepared

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41047355/ee57ecc6d21bc7cc5bde5d10603854f3bdae3eeb.png Some of Kaito's cards will have First Strike and Prepared effects. These cards will have different effects depending on when you play them within your turn, forcing you to think carefully about the order in which you play them.

Provoke

Sota is a master of trickery and deception. With his varied movement cards, he can quickly cover the battlefield while also luring enemies off their positions of strength. Below are some of his main card mechanics.

Poison

Kunai

Sota always has a trick up his sleeve, generally the sharp kind. His Kunai are ephemeral cards (meaning they are removed from your deck when played) that deal a small amount of damage by themselves. Stealth

As a master of terrain, Sota can take his time setting up for the perfect kill by using his Stealth cards to ensure his enemies don't spot him before it's too late. Lure

Using the Ogumo's magic, Sota can place afterimages of himself on the battlefield. Lure cards have tons of potential uses. Greetings Mahokenshi! We are very excited to announce that the Mahokenshi demo returns during the Tacticon Steam event (Sept 22-26)! In the demo, you will be able to play as Kaito for the first time ever. The Mahokenshi from the House of Sapphire is sturdy and powerful, charging at his enemies like an unstoppable juggernaut.

Playstyle

As this is the first time Kaito is playable, let's talk about his playstyle for a bit. Unlike the other Mahokenshi, Kaito prefers being surrounded by his opponents. Although he has multiple deck archetypes and synergies, most of them revolve around stacking defense.

Spikes

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41047355/b94f9029c650fc46c6568fcf6b31c8b7abe59160.gif The best offense is a good defense. Kaito can stack Spikes, icy thorns that hurt enemy attackers, even from afar!

Charge

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41047355/63539f8a951f15c46d524f2fc996b1bd24bb4a52.png Kaito does not dash like other Mahokenshi. Instead, his primary movement option is to Charge towards his opponent. A Charge will allow Kaito to take the shortest possible path to his enemy, even dashing across water.

First Strike / Prepared

These cards will have different effects depending on when you play them within your turn, forcing you to think carefully about the order in which you play them.

Provoke

We wanted to refine the display of just about everything, and as we're going to add new upcoming features, the space needed to be organized a little better. It has been reworked to be more fluid, because the first version had a lot of explanations displayed on the screen during your fights. ● The missions have a one-time currency reward: more information about how to use it with the realm tree below On your adventures, you’ll notice a challenge button which leads to some greyed out elements: this just indicates we’re still working on this feature. CHALLENGES (not implemented yet) Each mission in Mahokenshi will have its own set of challenges to obtain more currencies and provide you with powerful upgrades. We must stress that these aren’t dynamic and are fixed on a map. One of our ideas for the future is to eventually make the weather affect the gameplay, such as reducing movement or vision. VFX & SOUND {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41047355/075d058b4701efa95e1bfdfbe910b3332c5282ac.png We’re super pleased to say that there’s been a range of improvements across animations (notably combat) as well as sound for this build. We think it makes an enormous difference to the way combat plays and feels. While not quite finished, it’s a huge improvement on what we had previously.
