As always, thank you for playing Lost Rift and continuing to share your feedback with us. Your reports and suggestions continue helping us shape the future of the Rift.
See you on the islands.
Rifters, this is the Second Update, the Gun Modding Update.
This one is a big update for Lost Rift. We are introducing full weapon modding, a major expansion to gunplay that lets you tailor weapons to your playstyle, whether you prefer precision sniping, stealth, or full-on combat.
We have also added a new building material - wood, so you can expand your island architecture and base-building.
Alongside this, we have reworked combat feel, loot distribution, progression systems, and added a wide range of improvements across AI, UI, world design, and more.
Weapon modifications have been added to the game and can be equipped at the Modding Table. Modding Table can be unlocked via a quest after you have opened the Communication Tower on Pioneer's Landing.
Modding tables are also available on both expedition islands, though some may be hidden or defended.
Weapon mod types include: silencers, chokes and muzzles, magazines, laser sights, sights (including scopes), and grips.
Mods impact weapon behavior by reducing recoil and sway, modifying magazine size, improving aiming control, and reducing weapon noise.
Mods are divided into three tiers: DIY, Commercial, and Military.
Basic mods can be found on Outcasts, while higher-tier mods are located in hidden rooms or dropped by bosses. Bosses have a high chance of dropping modded weapons.
DIY mods can be crafted at the Weapon Bench after being unlocked.
Weapons have been rebalanced, especially in terms of recoil and sway, to ensure mods create a noticeable difference.
Headshot detection has been improved to be more reliable.
Healing has been rebalanced
Fiber bandage heals 20 HP (5 seconds use time)
Treated bandage heals 30 HP (4 seconds use time)
Healing tonic heals 1 HP per second for 60 seconds (3 seconds use time)
Medkit heals 70 HP (4 seconds use time)
Survival kit heals 100 HP (3.5 seconds)
Revival kit heals 100 HP, removes heavy wounds, and allows reviving teammates (4 seconds)
Epic weapons have been reworked and are no longer pre-equipped with mods. Players can now customize them freely.
NEW Weapon! Hunter Rifle, a high damage bolt action rifle with a small magazine and strong recoil, available in Rusted, Stock, and Epic variants
New weapons rarity added:
Liberator (Epic)

Alongside these changes, we’ve continued improving technical stability and visibility into matchmaking performance.

Rifters, today is the first patch in 2026 for Lost Rift! This update focuses on polishing the experience for our players and balancing. A lot of these changes have come directly from monitoring your experience and feedback. We are committed to making Lost Rift the innovative new Extraction Survival game that our team envisioned when we started this project. We’re adding a new batch of side quests tied to the latest Expedition, giving players more reasons to return to Locker Island and uncover its dark past.
To reduce the frustration of failed runs, we’re introducing a Safe Pocket feature. Items stored in the Safe Pocket won’t be lost if an expedition fails. That means you can secure critical quest items or especially valuable loot before things go sideways - as long as they’re small enough to fit.
Safe pockets. A small space to keep items safe from loss in an expedition.
New side quests for Wade, Jo, Sophie, Dorothie, Vlad, and Fynn. Explore the dark past of Locker Island and the mysteries of Victoria.
New notes reveal the troubling circumstances of an ill-fated expedition.
Increased health of bosses in Expeditions.
Changed the efficiency of fuel in the fire pit and furnace:
Coal now burns for 60 seconds in the furnace.
Coal now burns for 180 seconds in the fire pit.
Wood now burns for 60 seconds in the fire pit.
Sticks now burn for 30 seconds in the fire pit.
Expedition matchmaking will more aggressively favour the lowest average latency when selecting a region for any player or team.
Note, though, if your teammates are located on different continents, ping rates are typically higher as the match will be placed in the best overall zone.
UI
Access to dismantle is now easier to access when holding the construction hammer.
AI
AI will be able to hear their target more easily when actively in combat with them.
Added engagement range to AI depending on their current weapon.
Berserkers will now engage the player more in melee.
Bruisers will now engage at close to medium range with their weapon.
Marksman will now highly prefer to stay at range.
Made AI more responsive to the player's actions in general.
Improved existing vantage points so AI marksmen use them more effectively.
Improved hiding Behavior.
AI will now hide from the player when getting shot outside their effective combat range if they can’t reach the player.
Improved AI ability to move across multifloor terrain (IE: Galleon).
Improved AI Search behavior.
Hydration increases stamina regeneration instead of increasing max stamina.
Sleeping in a cozy bed heals the player.

Resolved an exploit that could cause players to be assigned to the wrong team on expedition, enabling them to damage players in PvE and see players on the map in PvP.
Fixes to quests to build crafting stations, such as Textiles for Life, that couldn’t be completed. Just head back to the quest giver to finish now.
Fixes to spawns in PvE expedition - some spawns were spawning higher value items than they were supposed to.
Fixed recipes in Jo and in the weapon crafting table.
Fixed a crash when using FSR 4 common on GTX GPUs.
Fixed crash in EOS SDK, where unreliable network conditions would trigger a reconnect to the game services, then an hour later, EOS SDK would likely crash (This one was really “fun” to track down).
Fixed the issue where some players would disconnect while loading into their camps as players built their camps larger.
Making connections to the game services more resilient, they will now retry if interrupted in the background.
Networking changes to prevent packet loss during initial map load. This should make loading a bit faster for many players as well.
Fixed ordering issues in the options menu.
Various other bug and crash fixes.
Fixed the issue where AI would spawn without ammo loaded in their gun. Making them reload their gun when starting combat.
DLSS updated to 4.5, OTA updates are now enabled.

Hello Rifters - We have estimated over two hours of downtime occurring to release the game update.
Game Update #1, Welcome to Locker Island
Thank you for your patience as we release our first major update to the game today!
Hello Rifters! We’re so excited to bring you our first major update, Welcome to Locker Island, on December 17, 2025. This update marks the biggest step forward for Lost Rift since Early Access launched, and is coming with a ton of new features the community has been requesting since players first stepped ashore on our mysterious archipelago.
This release introduces an entirely new expedition island, an experimental PvE-only mode for expeditions, downed personal self-revives, an inbox rewards system, new weapons, new bosses, and much needed quality of life improvements. Below you’ll find some of the biggest changes coming to the game next week.
KEY FEATURES COMING IN THIS GAME UPDATE
Experimental PvE Expedition Mode:
PvE Cooperative Expeditions will allow players to focus on survival, exploration, resource mastery, and story progression without the pressure of unpredictable PvP encounters. Don’t worry, players will still compete against each other for loot in this mode, but in a more cooperative way without the ability to shoot each other. It’s also important to keep in mind that rarer loot will be easier to find in the more competitive PvP-focused mode.
We understand some of our players really enjoy only the survival PvE aspect of the game, so the new mode is an option to make expeditions feel less like a winner-takes-all showdown. This feature is all about giving players the choice, whether to fight others or to just take-on Outcasts and explore the island for loot. As the title says, the cooperative PvE Expedition mode is still Experimental, so please bear with us as we continue to refine how this mode functions.
Expedition Island #2 - Locker Island:
A second island has unveiled itself in the archipelago. This swamp-ridden, eerie expanse is filled with abandoned structures and secrets lost in the mud and mist. Locker Island has nine points of interest, with one yet to be revealed, across a landscape where you’ll find shipwrecks, plane wrecks, and fresh dangers.
New Bogzilla Monster and Boss Fights:
Take on six new boss enemies, 3 on Locker Island and 3 on Western Island. Plus, watch out for a new deadly species of creature lurking in the shadows of Locker Island.
Downed Self-Revive:
Self-revive gives solo explorers and unlucky squads a fighting chance at a comeback. Time it right, and keep fighting your way out alive. Time it wrong, and lose it all.
80+ Lore Notes & Side Quests:
This is the largest narrative expansion the game has received post-early access release. With over 50 updated story notes, 80 brand-new notes, and new side quests, the world of Lost Rift is now richer, darker, and more connected to the dangers surrounding it.
Two New Weapons, the Liberator & Frontier:
Expand your arsenal with the new fully automatic Liberator and the Frontier precision rifle.
Shared Chest Crafting Integration:
Shared chests are a new chest type that can be built to make it easier to craft. That means less shuffling items around and more time creating the things you’ll need to succeed.
T1 Chest Recipe: 20 Wood / 5 Sailor Rope
T2 Chest Recipe: 20 Treated Wood / 20 Metal Scraps / 2 Metal Hook
T3 Chest Recipe: 20 Iron Ingot / 5 Sailor Rope / 1 Control Relay
In-Game Mailbox Rewards System:
Players will now be able to receive items and messages directly from the Lost Rift team. Things like holiday gift items, player rewards, and other communications will get delivered with a new UI button and notification through this new system.
And There’s So Much More:
Quality of Life Improvements across the entire game
AI reaction and spawning cool down updates
A huge set of loot and economy rebalancing
New food types and new fauna to hunt for a meal
Difficulty scaling changes, mining rebalance, trade changes, and the list keeps going
Be sure to check out some screenshots below to get more of a sneak peak on the update!
We have said this time and time again, but your feedback has been key in shaping our long-term plans, and it will continue to guide our work as we refine and expand Lost Rift together. Stay tuned for future information on our first patch, first content update, and beyond. Be sure to join us on Discord, TikTok, and X to connect with other players.
And as always, please consider dropping us a review (it helps us a lot)!
Hello Rifters! It’s wild to think that it’s already been a few months since Lost Rift started our journey into Early Access. While we’ve put out an initial look at our plans through the Early Access period, the team has continued to actively listen to player feedback and is focusing on delivering different features accordingly. This new Early Access roadmap reflects our latest priorities, refined plans, and exciting additions to the game currently in development.
We know there have been some issues, bugs, or strange anomalies that even our best devs couldn’t have predicted. Just know, our team is hard at work tackling all the issues raised. In case we haven’t said it enough, your reports through Discord and the Steam forums have already helped us identify and resolve several key issues. That process will continue until Lost Rift feels as stable and immersive as it was meant to be.
Confirmed in Development
Since launch, we’ve already shipped our first major patch along with several hotfixes that delivered against some of the previous planned roadmap points, but there is so much more to come. We’re thrilled to share the latest on what’s coming to Lost Rift thanks to your feedback and the team’s continued hard work.
Please note that some features listed will be implemented into the game after our first Game Update this month. This is not the full, exhaustive list of our Early Access plans through 2026 and it continues to only include things we’re ready to share with the community.
Experimental PvE Mode: A new mode focusing purely on PvE survival and exploration, giving players an alternative to the more PvP-focused extraction expeditions.
Second Expedition Map: A brand new island to explore: more loot, more danger, and more mystery.
Downed Self-Revive: Allowing players to revive one-time after being downed to continue to make everyone’s expedition experience better.

New Firearms: Expanding our arsenal with fresh firearms to fit different combat styles.
New Alpha Predator Fauna: A wild, dangerous apex predator will challenge even the most seasoned Rifters on an expedition.

Gun Modding: A whole weapon customization system, letting you tailor attachments, mods, and tweaks to suit your load-out.
Fast Travel System: Safely get back to the comfort of your PvE base with a fast travel system that shortens the trek back home.
New Building Material: Build stronger bases and new structures to withstand the islands’ threats.
Better Expedition Onboarding: To help new players hit the ground running without feeling overwhelmed, we'll be upgrading the matchmaking system to match players together based on their game progress.
Quality of Life Improvements:
Craft at your workbench from your storage with a new chest type
Remove ammo directly from guns, allowing ammo swapping
HUD indication of armor durability, so you know when your armor breaks
Continuous Updates Based on Player Feedback
As with the previous roadmap we delivered, expect continuous updates from us focused on:
Weapon, AI, and economy balancing
Smarter and more responsive AI behaviors
Refinements to the revive and heavy wound systems
Your feedback has been pivotal in shaping our long-term plans, and it will continue to guide our work as we refine and expand Lost Rift together. Hello Rifters! The next update for Lost Rift is officially coming this month! We’re excited to introduce, Welcome to Locker Island. Our first big update is loaded with huge changes, including self-revive for downed solo players, powerful new chests that let you craft at nearby workbenches without transferring resources, a new HUD armor gauge, fierce new enemies, and a brand new Expedition to fight across: Locker Island.
Locker Island is a massive new area to explore and will be accessible by going on an Expedition to extract resources. Here’s a sneak peak at the map and some screenshots to shed more light on this mysterious new land coming to Lost Rift.
The island provides players a dangerous new land to explore with seven key areas of interest and three rotating extraction points once you’ve got all your loot.
Reveal the dark history of Locker Island, where Operation Victoria quarantined the sick and performed questionable experiments on dangerous species. Witness the consequences of one fateful day that changed the trajectory of the settlement forever.
Those who were left behind from a quarantine have armed themselves and succumbed to madness. Unravel the mystery of Project Victoria and take on new enemies in your search for treasures to extract.
You’ll find hidden wonders everywhere; from a shipwreaked galleon seemingly lost in time to a dilapidated welcome center. With Outcasts running loose and unspeakable new beasts stalking the swamps, you will need your wits about you as you venture into a bizarre land of twisted events that were never meant to be.
Our first Game Update, Welcome to Locker Island, is coming this month in late-December. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for more information. As always, be sure to join us on Discord, TikTok, and X to connect with other players. Finally, please consider dropping us a review (it helps us a lot)!
Hello Rifters - We have two to three hours of downtime occurring to fix the following crashing issues:
Stability
Fix for authentication that would fail when Windows root certificates were out of date.
Fixes for GPU crashes and various other rare crashes
Unhandled Exceptions causing crashing issues connecting to Expeditions.
Thank you for your patience as we update the game today!
We would like to thank community members Heso, Kopp, and WABI in our Discord for providing information and their save files for us to resolve critical issues for this hotfix.
Resolved an issue where items inside of chests would appear to disappear, especially when traveling to and from expeditions. This was a result of the server not uploading save file data properly due to large save files
Fixed an issue where foliage regrowth data could massively duplicate within save files, causing performance issues over time
Fixed an issue where players would sometimes spawn at the dock even after claiming a bed as their respawn point. This may not resolve every case, we are looking for further player reports
Fixed an issue where the Walkie Talkie recipe did not properly consume the Walkie Talkies in the Salvage Station
Increased the drop rate of the Large Battery to make it easier to find
Fixed an exploit
Update 3: All server issues should now be resolved and all players should have access to their islands again.
Update 2: Unfortunately, we've identified a remaining server crash that is preventing some players from loading their island saves. We are diagnosing the crash right now. 🙏 Update: The hotfix to fix ongoing server issues is now live. All players are advised to exit their islands and restart their game to download the update as soon as possible. You should no longer experience connectivity issues, islands not appearing on your world lists, or item rollbacks.
We are currently working on a hotfix to address a handful of critical issues that have arisen post-Patch 1.
We are aware of increased server crashes, which may be causing islands not to save properly. This can result in loss of items (inventories not saving).
We are also aware of server connectivity issues. You may have problems joining your island or seeing your island on the World list until this is resolved. We are working diligently to identify these issues.
We know this is not an ideal situation, and we appreciate your patience with us as we work to resolve these issues as quickly as we can.
Rifters, today is the first Early Access Patch for Lost Rift! Patch 1 addresses the most common pain points our community has raised and focuses on making Lost Rift more rewarding, consistent, and enjoyable. Many of these changes come directly from your feedback, and our goal is simple: to make every expedition, survival encounter, and crafting session feel smoother, fairer, and more fun.
This patch delivers a balance overhaul to nearly every aspect of survival gameplay. Core systems like stamina, hydration, and crafting have been rebalanced, making food and resource management more meaningful. Salvaging and the furnace now yield more rewarding and logical outputs. Combat pacing has been tuned, with axes hitting harder, universally improved armor (damage reduction, durability, and cost), and healing kits applying faster for more intense combat encounters. Weapons have also had their durability rebalanced. Extraction gameplay has been made more dynamic and fair, with larger extraction zones, faster evacuation timers, focused loot themes, and improved extraction zone cover.
Full rebalance of consumables' effect on stamina and hydration. In most cases, it has increased, and the role of food should be more apparent
Furnace and Salvage Station yield rebalanced
Higher rarity weapons and armor now yield more iron bars from the furnace
More bolts, nuts, and scraps are now required for a single ingot from the furnace
Increased yield of gun parts from higher-tier weapons in Salvage Station
Increased yield of various resources from the Salvage Station
Axe damage rebalance - axes and metal axes are now much more dangerous in melee combat:
Tree health has been updated as well to match axes' increased damage
Armor damage reduction, durability, and cost rebalanced:
Durability of crafted and looted armor increased significantly
Durability of AI enemies' armor lowered considerably
Damage reduction of basic hats increased
Damage reduction of Goat Helmet increased
Weapon durability rebalanced and standardized:
In most cases, durability was increased. However, in a few instances, durability was decreased, most notably with assault rifles
Durability bars may be misleading for armor and weapons, make it seem like durability has decreased. However, it has been updated to accommodate the new, increased max values. Your item's durability before the update is the same durability post-update
Repair costs have been rebalanced
First Aid Kit, Survival Kit, and Revival Kit healing time has been reduced to 2 seconds after application, to make them more useful
Revival Kit rarity changed from 5 (legendary) to 3 (rare)

Hello, Rifters! It’s hard to believe it’s already been two weeks since Lost Rift opened its doors to the world. From the first steps onto Pioneers' Landing to the countless expeditions and close calls since, watching our entire community explore, survive, and share your stories with us has been incredible. We want to take a moment to thank every single one of you who joined us for the Early Access launch. Your enthusiasm and feedback have meant the world to our team.
We know the journey hasn’t been without its bumps. Some of you have faced bugs or strange anomalies that even our best techs couldn’t have predicted. We hear you, and our team is hard at work tackling these issues that you've raised. Your reports through Discord and the Steam forums have already helped us identify and resolve several key issues. That process will continue until Lost Rift feels as stable and immersive as it was meant to be.
We have had many requests from excited players since our EA launch, asking us what's being added to the game. Today, we’re excited to share a glimpse of what’s next with our initial Early Access Roadmap.
Please note that this is just a first look and not the full, exhaustive list of all our Early Access plans. It only includes things we're ready to share with the community, and there's more to come.
New Expedition Map: A fresh PVPVE island to explore, filled with new dangers and new secrets.
New Alpha Predator Fauna: A terrifying new apex creature to rival Bonkey will be stalking the new Expedition map.
New Prey Fauna: Our cutest addition yet, the capybara, will be found on the new Expedition map.
Gun Modding: Customize your loadout and experiment with attachments to fit your playstyle.
New Firearms: Multiple new tools of survival and destruction are on the way.
Wood Building Material: Build stronger bases and new structures to withstand the islands' threats.
Pioneers' Landing Fast Travel System: Expedite your journeys across the island.
Better Expedition Onboarding: To help new players hit the ground running without feeling overwhelmed, we'll be upgrading the matchmaking system to match players together based on their game progress.
Solo Revives and Opt-in Solo Expedition Queues: Our goal is to make solo play more accessible and just as fun as squads.
Quality of Life Improvements:
Craft at your workbench from your storage with a new chest type
Remove ammo directly from guns, allowing ammo swapping
HUD indication of armor durability, so you know when your armor breaks
Expect continuous updates from us focused on:
Weapon, AI, and economy balancing
Smarter and more responsive AI behaviors
Refinements to the revive and heavy wound systems
Your feedback has been instrumental in shaping our priorities, and it will continue to guide our work as we refine and expand Lost Rift together. Stay tuned for future information on our first patch, first content update, and beyond.
PS: If you are enjoying the game, please consider dropping us a review. It helps us a lot!
Restricted solo player matchmaking to only ever match solo players together, instead of allowing solos to sometimes end up with duos, etc. We will be making this optional in the future, but this option is forced on for all solo players currently, as of this update
Reduce Crossbow damage to 55
Reduce Combat Crossbow damage (120 > 60)
We have received a large number of players due to the strength of crossbows. The Combat Crossbow and Crude Crossbow can no longer one-shot enemy players.
Fixed multiple locations on Pioneers’ Landing and Western Island where players could fall into rocks and become stuck. Please continue to report any instances you may find.
Fixed some rock collision issues where players could walk inside rocks (more of these cases still need to be addressed)
Fixed some collision issues with rocks on Pioneers’ Landing where the player appeared to be hovering on top of the rock instead of standing on it
Replaced mining nodes from the walls to the ground to prevent issues with loot falling in unintended ways
Lowered hyena health (120 > 70)
Lowered alpha hyena health (240 > 140)
Fixed an issue where hyenas were not receiving bonus damage for headshots. Normal hyenas will now die to one headshot (by basic bow and axe throw, does not include all guns due to rate of fire)
Reduced the hyena population on Western Island by 40%
Hyenas will now chase the player for a shorter distance
Hyenas are too strong, we’ve heard your feedback! Please let us know how they feel after the update.
Reduced the number of raid nests that can be active. *Please note this will not reduce the number of active nests on pre-existing worlds, but will prevent more from activating*
Reduced the number of raiders sent to attack the player
Decreased the frequency of raids
Fixed issues causing Outcast and hyena raids not to be defeated (not definitive, and there may be additional cases for us to resolve)
Raids have been a pain point for early-game play, and we have addressed these concerns with the listed alterations. We will be monitoring your feedback to see if these changes are enough to make the raids feel less one-sided.
Fixed an issue where shots that hit the player's neck were able to bypass armor
Resolved an audio issue where the lockdown siren would continuously play throughout Pioneers’ Landing without attenuation
We are thrilled to have you all here with us. Are you curious about what Lost Rift has to offer? Read on to get an overview of our features and what you can expect when you dive into the Rift.
Pioneers’ Landing is your home base and is roughly one square kilometer of playing area. It's entirely private for you and up to 4 friends; you’ll never be raided by other players here. However, this beautiful place is not always safe. Some creatures and mysterious survivalists living in the jungle might attack your home. It's not all hostile, though, as you’ll also find all of the NPCs on this island, and complete many of your story quests here.
Western Island is an extraction shooter zone called Expedition that supports up to 15 players. You will sail to Expedition on a boat as part of your quests. Upon arrival, you’ll have 40 minutes to loot what you can and get to the exit before you die or before the timer runs out. There are 18 points of interest to explore, with more planned for Early Access, offering a variety of different fighting areas. If you die while on an expedition, you’ll lose everything in your inventory.
You and your squadmates can access any Shared Island at any time, without needing the “host” player who created the island to be online. Any player with access can launch the island whenever they want. When playing together, one person makes an Island and then sends a secure one-time invite code to each friend, which provides access to the island.
Explore the mysterious lore of Lost Rift through Notes that can be found scattered across the islands. These notes are written by other survivors, and will give you backstory of the world as well as gameplay tips.
There are nearly 100 quests for you to complete, which is approximately 20-30 hours of play time from story quests exclusively. You can access your quests at any time by opening your Journal (J).
Keys can be found by looting enemies and locations on Pioneers’ Landing and Western Island. Some of the NPCs will also trade keys. Here is how keys can be used:
Safe Key: opens chests on Pioneers’ Landing and Western Island
Pioneers’ Landing Key: opens doors and chests on Pioneers’ Landing
Western Outpost Key: opens doors and chests on Western Island
Bunker Key: opens bunkers on both Pioneers’ Landing and Western Island
Any additional keys not listed here are used as part of your quests, and won’t be named here to avoid spoilers
There are also three hidden keys around Pioneers’ Landing for you to find!
Wade will guide you through some beginner quests to get you settled. Once you progress through her quests, she will ask you to locate her friend Jess, and to repair a boat. After both of these are completed, you’ll be able to use the boat to go on Expeditions.
Lost Rift is designed with a dedicated geo-located server approach to keep PvE/PvPvE consistent. Our Expedition matchmaking will match players based on their squad size, matching solo players together as much as possible within their geographical area. It will then scale up, matching them with duos as much as possible, and so on, until an ideal match is found.
When downed, you’ll receive a debuff called Heavy Wound. This debuff will start a timer during which you can’t be revived again. This prevents squads from repeatedly reviving each other during active PVP altercations.
If you get disconnected from an Expedition, you can rejoin it right away from the main menu. Your progress and inventory will be safe during a disconnect (as long as your enemies don't get to you first) so that you can jump right back into the action.
If you die on Expedition, you can also spectate your surviving teammates while you wait and hope one of them can revive you with a revival kit.
Our character creation allows you to choose a body type and head preset, and clothing options such as glasses, a shirt, a watch or bracelet, pants, and shoes. Additional clothing can be crafted, looted, or found in the world, so keep an eye out for that elusive diving helmet!
When you first start your journey on Pioneers’ Landing, you’ll learn the crafting recipes for a basic set of tools: Building Hammer (to build everything), Torch, Stone Axe, and Stone Pickaxe. To carry more loot, you’ll want to find or invest in a backpack (available in Small, Medium, and Heavy sizes). To defend yourself, you’ll have a few different options in weaponry: Bow, Crossbow, Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun. Throwing an axe or torch can also be very effective!
To protect yourself, you’ll need a helmet and chest armor. Different types and tiers of armor can be crafted, looted, or found in the world. Start by crafting a wooden chestplate, and Wade will help guide you through the progression of getting better-tier armor.
Lost Rift offers a unique, modular building system that we’re excited to introduce to players. Our thatch building set comes in 5x5, 3x3, and 1x1 prefab pieces, which you can use to build out a standard base camp. In addition to walls, floors, roofs, and windows, we also offer triangle floors, normal and inverted triangle walls, angled roof pieces, and pillars and beams to provide extra structural support. Utilize all of these pieces to create the base camp of your dreams!
You will house all of your crafting benches and refineries at your camp, which includes the workbench, weapon bench, armor bench, survivor beacon, medical bench, textile bench, salvage bench, repair bench, furnace, and firepit (don’t actually put your firepit in your house, that’s a fire hazard). If you don’t have the crafting recipe or materials to craft any of these, keep making progress on your quests to unlock more.
You can add chests (Primitive, Scrap Metal, and Sturdy Metal for the most amount of space) to store your items, lighting to see in the dark, and dress up your home with a bed and other various pieces of furniture.
Decorating your base camp with furniture and other fun items isn’t just for show. Jazz up your base to get a bonus Comfort Buff. The more you decorate, the stronger the buff gets.
Check your Camp Comfort Level at the Survivor Beacon
Each decoration gives you comfort points (1-10 points per item)
Some items, like plants, can be placed multiple times for more points (up to 5 of the same type)
Other items, like a bed, only give you points for the first one you place
Your goal is to reach a Camp Comfort Rank of 10. At this max rank, you'll get a big bonus of +50 stamina that lasts for 20 minutes and is refreshed by sleeping at the camp. Your Comfort Buff will also persist when traveling to Expedition, giving you the edge over your opponents!
Since the 1400s, countless seacrafts, aircrafts, and people have disappeared from history through the void only to land on the islands of this archipelago. Most individuals who make it through to the other side don’t survive long. Those that do survive fall into two groups: Survivors and Outcasts.
Survivors are motivated by the will to live and will avoid killing humans unless in self-defense. Some survivors have given up searching for a way home, while others continue to hold on to hope. Whatever the case, they make for good allies, as there is always safety in numbers.
Captain Wade Davis is a hardened ex-Operation Victoria commander who lost her leg in a workplace disaster. She protects the camp with you and wants any path back home. She also acts as your early-game guide.
Dr. Fynn Sullivan is the soft-spoken Southern scientist who became obsessed with Kennedite and sabotaged Operation Victoria. Skittish but brilliant, he hides in a secure cave refining navigation theory for a route home.
Dr. Sophie Calloway is a British medic and epidemiologist who arrived with early signs of a violent syndrome affecting some of the island inhabitants. She is half outsider to both Outcasts and Survivors. She brews medicines from local flora while searching for a cure for her own volatile impulses, which are caused by the syndrome.
Dorothy Tan is a rising Australian fauna expert and survival TV host who landed here only two years ago and immediately became the islands’ energetic hunting specialist. She teaches animal behavior and safe harvesting, and remains convinced she will bring proof of her adventure home someday.
Vlad “Katyol” Katyolov is a jovial ex-Soviet naval cook who channels homespun ingenuity into feeding everyone with whatever the islands provide. Endlessly kind with a few quirky habits, he mediates tensions and fears that he will one day become sick like the Outcasts.
Josefina “Jo” Mercer is a Caracas-born DEA enforcer stranded while chasing smugglers who now runs weapons and judges everyone by their usefulness. She is fiercely protective of her found family, especially Fynn, and she hunts Outcasts without hesitation. She seeks revenge on the smugglers she believes are also somewhere on the island.
Outcasts are travelers to the Rift who have succumbed to a violent syndrome due to their extended time in the void between worlds. While survivors have found a certain harmony amongst themselves, Outcasts are uninterested in getting along. They have instead created a mystic, cult-like ethos that binds them to nature and the mysteries of these islands.
Outcasts have three difficulty tiers and three archetypes, which are as follows:
Marksman: Keeps their distance and picks players off with rifles or bows from high ground. More likely to flee when pressured, so an aggressive playstyle makes taking them down easier.
Bruiser: Heavily armored and more aggressive, but the best targets to loot if you want quality armor and can take them down without breaking it first. Most likely to spawn with a crossbow or shotgun.
Berserker: Melee-focused and recklessly aggressive. They can spawn in groups and overwhelm the player, so avoid getting surrounded. They have lower-tier armor and weapons, so they can be taken out quickly for cheap loot. They typically spawn with a basic bow or pistol, but they are resourceful and can pick up weapons from fallen enemies, including players!
Marksman Boss: Found only on Western Island, usually around the Weather Station, wearing signature cowboy gear. Keep an eye out for their purple-scoped rifle.
Balance Note: Outcasts will spawn based on the player count, meaning if you’re a solo player, you’ll have fewer Outcasts to defeat than a full squad of five.
Ape: Known as Bonkey, this ape is a very powerful encounter. Keep your distance early on. It will attack if you start sprinting or look away, so back away slowly until you can break line of sight. It is typically found roaming around Comms during Expeditions.
Tree Bugs: Listen for the sound of their hives nestled in treetops. Firing a weapon near them will make the hives aggressive, but if you are careful, you can get close enough to loot their valuable wax. Chop or burn down the tree to stop additional tree bugs from spawning.
Hyenas: Hyenas are typically found around caves on Pioneers’ Landing and Western Island. They are a source of rawhide, which is used in many crafting recipes and for repairing the Expedition boat. Hyenas can also leave caves to attack your base camp, so stay alert. Beware the red alpha hyena variant.
Tapir: The tapir is exclusive to Western Island and is typically found grazing along the beach. If you get too close, it will make a loud squeak that may attract other players. PvP-savvy players should listen for distant squeaks to get the drop on unsuspecting rivals.
Dodo: Offer a dodo a berry to lead it around the island. Dodos can distract hyenas if you manage to lure them. You’ll find dodo nests on the beaches, and dodos can be killed for meat and for feathers used to craft arrows.
Goat: Goats are assholes. They may attack or flee depending on how they’re feeling. They can be killed for meat and horns, and the horns can be crafted into a stylish Goat Helmet.
Each player can create up to three characters and three islands. However, there is no limit on how many of your friends' islands you can join.
Lost Rift is able to provide language support for the following languages on Early Access launch: French, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, German, Portuguese, Spanish (Spain), Italian, Korean, Turkish, Ukrainian, Czech, Portuguese (Portugal), and Chinese (Traditional). Translations, like the rest of the game, will improve over time throughout our Early Access period. We invite players to give translation feedback in our Discord #bug-reports channel.
From the very beginning, our goal with Lost Rift was to blend the survival and extraction shooter genres into a single cohesive experience. We believed that we could create a new type of game that blends PVE and PVPVE, while still being flexible enough for different kinds of players to play the game their way.
Our team has invested an incredible amount of time and effort into this release, and now, early access is where we finish it with you. We can’t wait to finally put it into the hands of players, as your feedback will help guide us in making the game even better.
Thank you for your support, and we'll see you in the Rift!
Congratulations, Rifters! As part of the Steam Wishlist Campaign, our community has unlocked a reveal of an upcoming hostile creature that will be added to Lost Rift post-Early Access launch.
Internally, this aggressive creature is currently being referred to as Bogzilla.
For now, we will let everyone speculate on where you might be able to find this creature, and what kind of environment it might occupy...
We've still got more community perks to unlock:
Collectible Steam Trading Card Pack
Community-Powered Weapon: Fan-voted Name & Unique Skin
New Island Reveal
Every wishlist counts! Encourage your friends to wishlist Lost Rift and help us unlock these rewards for the entire community.
In the demo, you'll start your journey on Pioneers’ Landing, where you'll be introduced to Wade, a character who will help you get established and guide you toward your first Expedition on Western Island. This is where you'll experience the intense extraction shooter gameplay that's at the heart of Lost Rift.
Back on Pioneers’ Landing, you’ll see the ever-present anomaly wall, which will restrict your access to the starting area for the duration of the demo. The wall will finally come down on launch day, September 25.
Please read on below to see all of the new features and significant changes that we’ve made to the demo since our last public playtest.
Demo Notice: Any progress you make during the demo, including your character and island progress, will not transfer to the launch version of the game. All data will be wiped before the official launch.
Let us know what you think on our social channels, and be sure to add us to your Steam Wishlist.
We've made it easier than ever to play together. You and your squadmates can now access any Shared Island at any time, without needing the player who created the island to be online. Any player with access can launch the island whenever they want. The person who initially creates the Shared Island can send a more secure one-time invite code to each friend, which provides access to the island. Our new invite codes also help prevent unwanted guests from showing up and causing trouble.
The building in Lost Rift has undergone significant visual upgrades since our last playtest. The thatch building set has been completely visually overhauled and now includes the following pieces:
Thatch Floor Tile (5x, 3x, 1x)
Thatch Triangle Floor Tile (5x, 3x, 1x)
Thatch Wall Tile (5x, 3x, 1x)
Thatch Wall Triangle (5x, 3x, 1x)
Thatch Inverted Wall Triangle (5x, 3x, 1x)
Thatch Angled Roof (5x, 3x, 1x)
Thatch Angled Tile (5x, 3x, 1x)
Wood Vertical Beam (5x, 3x, 1x)
Wood Horizontal Beam (5x, 3x, 1x)
Wood Diagonal Beam (5x, 3x, 1x)
Thatch Door
We look forward to seeing what players can create with all of these options.
Many of the functional and decorative items that can be placed in your base camp have also received visual updates. We will leave these for you to explore!
Tired of a boring, lifeless base? Now you can jazz it up with some decorations and get a bonus while you're at it! Decorating your base camp with furniture and other fun items now gives you a Comfort Buff.
Your goal is to reach a Camp Comfort Rank of 10 by getting 1000 points. At this max rank, you'll get a big bonus: a +50 stamina buff that lasts for 20 minutes and is refreshed by sleeping at the camp. Your Comfort Buff will also persist when travelling to Expedition, to get the edge over your opponents!
If you have played in multiple playtests, you’ll know that early-game progression is something we have been hammering away on to perfect it. We have been focused on helping new players become more established at camp and better prepared for the battles ahead on Expedition.
Many changes have been made to streamline the gameplay flow, including adjustments to the amount of resources picked up and harvested, crafting recipe requirements, and the process of unlocking different recipes.
Lost Rift continues to look better than ever as new game art floods the islands. You’ll notice visual changes to foliage, upgrades to POIs on the Western Island, as well as art updates to consumables, decorative items, workbenches, and more.
When you are downed, you will now receive a debuff called Heavy Wound. This debuff will start a timer during which you will not be able to be revived again. The debuff will prevent squads from repeatedly reviving each other during active PVP altercations.
If you get disconnected from an Expedition due to a server error or a crash, you'll now be able to rejoin your previous mission right away from the main menu. This means your progress, loot, and inventory will be safe. You can jump right back into the action without losing anything!
We've been hard at work polishing the enemy AI and combat, making every encounter more challenging and fun. This includes everyone's favorite enemy, Bonkey. We've also made a significant change to how enemies spawn. Now, the number of enemies you face will scale to the number of players in your squad. Whether you're playing solo or with a full squad, you'll encounter a fair but challenging number of hyenas and Outcasts on your Island and during Expeditions.
Finally, we've fixed many navigation bugs that were causing enemies to act dumber than intended. They'll now move more intelligently, so be prepared!
You can now spectate your teammates on Expedition upon your death.
We are now enforcing a character limit and an Island limit. Each player can create up to three characters and three islands. However, there is no limit on how many of your friends' islands you can join.
We’ve added Transfer Item Stacks and Loot All buttons in the inventory screen, allowing you to optimize your backpack and empty loot faster into chests after Expeditions.
Improved gamepad support, especially in Big Picture mode
Dodos now eat berries!
