Hey everyone,
The new alpha version is now available on Steam. You can try it right away by opting into the public_alpha branch (instructions below).
A quick note:
I’ve already seen a few comments about the update length. I won’t go into this too much here since this is just an announcement post, but I want to be honest with you.
The way I currently develop the game, with a lot of optional paths, clothing variations, and branching choices, takes a lot of time and doesn’t always translate into a longer playable update.
I’m not saying anything will change, but I wanted to give you a heads-up while I take some time to think about the structure going forward.
Translation support:
This update also adds support for custom language translations. If you'd like to translate the game into your own language, it's now possible! There are also two partial translations included — check the changelog below for more details.
Right-click Long Story Short in your Steam Library
Select Properties
Go to the Betas tab
Choose public_alpha from the dropdown
Close the window — Steam will begin downloading the alpha version automatically
Story:
The story continues from where it left off. All paths are included except for the Ann non-girlfriend path. That path won’t trigger an ending screen. Instead, you’ll be able to skip the scene or watch it as it would have played in the girlfriend path.
Changes and Features:
Gallery and Scene Replay Performance improvements, thumbnails for a smoother experience, a new "Unlock All" feature (unlocked after completing the game once and remains active for future updates), and a "Sort by newest" button.
Settings Menu Added font size customization.
Overlay Toggle Press O to toggle the overlay during gameplay.
Help Menu Now includes a full list of shortcuts and key mappings.
Insta Feature You can now like all images once you've finished the game at least once. This carries over into future content.
Translation Support You can now add your own language via the settings menu.
Portuguese (Brazil) Translation added up to v0.10. Partially complete and not yet tested. v0.11 is not included yet.
French Translation updated up to v0.11, and partially tested up to v0.10.
Image Loading and Replay Data Backend improvements for faster and more stable UI performance.
Experimental:
After finishing v0.11, you'll be given the option to enter the Tech Demo stage. This section offers a sneak peek at content from the next version, including preview scenes or partial content that didn’t make it into the main update yet.
Let me start by saying that I (hopefully) solved my GPU crashing issue.
For those who don’t know, I’m currently using a 3090, and I also have a 5090 that’s not in use yet because I’m waiting for Daz (the software I use to render) to officially support it outside of alpha. My 3090 started crashing a few months ago while I was wrapping up the previous update, and instead of spending time debugging the issue, I focused on finishing the last few renders so I could get the update out.
Anyway, hopefully I’m not jinxing it, but switching to a new power supply seems to have fixed the problem.
Now to the actual dev update:
This is probably the most challenging update I’ve worked on.
While I was working on V0.10, I already had a pretty clear idea of which scenes I wanted to include in V0.11. The TTricky part was figuring out how to start the update in a way that ties everything together and keeps the pacing smooth.
Because I didn’t want to stare at a blank screen for weeks, I started working on several scenes separately. For some of them, I didn’t even set the lighting yet because I wasn’t sure whether they’d be night or day scenes.
Now that I’ve finally locked down the structure, I can say I’m really happy with how the update is shaping up.
And here's the current dilemma:
I came up with a new scene that wasn’t part of the original draft, and it ended up becoming a pretty big one. It includes all the main characters, plus some side characters and a ton of extras in the background.
Just rendering a single frame is already pushing the limits of my GPU’s memory. The scene looks awesome so far, but it’s incredibly slow to render.
If I see that it’s holding back the entire process, I might do what I did in the past: release the main scenes first, and then follow up with this larger bonus scene that ties everything together and adds even more content.
Translation Update
I also finished implementing full translation support in my engine, and I want to give a huge thanks to @Azexor for translating the entire game to French!
Right now, he’s busy with some personal stuff and hasn’t had time to fully test the translation or report issues. So if you fit any of the following, I’d love your help:
If you’re French and want to help me test the game (V0.10) and make sure everything is fully translated, let me know.
The game is also translated into Portuguese, up to version V0.9. If you’re a Portuguese speaker and want to help with finishing the translation or just do some testing, I’d really appreciate it.
If you speak a different language and want to contribute by translating LSS into your language, I’d love to hear from you.
You can find me on Discord(#ttrick).
Thanks again for your support and patience.
Cheers 🍻, TTrick
V0.10 is finally here! I know it took longer than expected, and I appreciate your patience. My plan is for the next version to arrive much faster.
This update includes the complete V0.10 chapter, a few new improvements, and important bug fixes.
Changes
Complete V0.10 chapter.
Added missing animation for the Vanessa + Customer scene (hotel).
Ann will only give a BJ to one of the motel guys if they actually have sex at the motel.
Emily’s relationship can now progress further depending on whether you touched her, not just if you joined her in bed.
If you’re not dating Ann, you can now avoid watching her have sex with the motel guys.
Pressing O now toggles the text overlay.
Added a new Help section in the main menu to see all keybinds.
Pressing F12 (default Steam screenshot) will no longer bring back the UI if it’s hidden (by pressing H).
Bug Fixes
Fixed an instance where the game jumped to the wrong scene after talking with Vanessa outside.
Fixed a freeze when loading during the Vanessa/Customer memory sequence on the bus.
Fixed the issue where the game stopped during Ann’s texts instead of showing the game end screen.
Fixed an issue where rolling back and then clicking advance sometimes caused the music to change unexpectedly.
cheers 🍻, TTrick

Important Note: This is still an alpha build, which means it's not yet complete, and you may run into bugs, unfinished content, or placeholders. More content is still planned for v0.10.
How to access the alpha branch on Steam:
Right-click Long Story Short in your Steam Library
Select Properties
Go to the Betas tab

Why release it now? I didn't want to keep Steam players in the dark any longer. Even though the final version isn't ready, I wanted to give you all a chance to see the progress and share your thoughts.
Thanks for your patience and support. I'm thrilled to share this update with you!
Cheers 🍻,
TTrick.
