We're delighted to reveal that you'll be able to get your hands on Long Drive North's shared RV update on May 18th!
This update will include:
Shared RV option for multiplayer!
Death consequences - choose your difficulty level
RV engine, battery and wheel upgrades
RV appliances - stove and microwave
RV additions - ladder, roof rack and tire rack
RV customisation - spray paints and liveries
If you're yet to jump in and wish to try before you buy, the good news is that we'll also be releasing a newly updated demo on May 18th - so you can experience a slice of the latest version of the game and give shared RVs a shot!
While we have previously given you first looks at shared RV functionality and RV upgrades, today we're giving you a sneak peek at some other exciting additions which will round out this update.
In our quest to further offer you a more customised survival experience, we're introducing a number of options regarding what happens when you die. When you start a new journey you'll be presented with the following options:
Lose nothing when you die. You respawn with full stats (Personal stats such as health, hunger, thirst etc, as well as RV stats such as engine battery, fuel etc).
Dying means you will lose all items in your inventory, except those which are mapped to your hotbar. You respawn with 75% stats.
Dying means you will lose all items you are carrying. You respawn with 50% stats.
Permadeath. Dying means you will have to start a new game.
As well as spray paint options we will also be introducing liveries so you can further make your RV your own.
In addition to the RV upgrades previously revealed, this update will also introduce the ability to craft a fuel tank, water tank and water filter.
We're also enhancing a couple of visual elements, namely grass and road textures.
This new grass visual looks a lot less flat and two-dimensional, making for more believable foliage.
And our new road texture is less repetitive and 'patchy', making it a little easier on the eye.
Work is progressing nicely on the next Long Drive North update! Launching in May, this update will introduce a shared RV option for multiplayer and a number of RV upgrades such as engine enhancements, appliances and storage, as well as RV customisation. These upgrades will give your road trips a greater sense of purpose and game progression.
Today we're sharing a first look at some of the RV upgrades currently in development. Enjoy!
Storage for fuel, tires and RV parts is vital to your journey through the American wilderness. This update will allow you to craft handy roof racks and tire racks!
Make sure your friends feel welcome in and around your RV by crafting a foldable bench and chairs.
In addition to the existing storage cabinets you can craft, we're adding a number of useful interior RV appliances which will be key to your survival.
Craft a heater to keep your RV warm.
Make sure to explore plenty of points of interest and keep an eye out for microwaves and stoves, which you'll be able to pick up and take back to install in your RV. These will also give players more to do when using the upcoming shared RV option, with the ability to cook food while on the move.
In addition to the bobbleheads you can find at POIs and place in your RV, introduced in the last update, we're adding the ability to spray paint your RV in a variety of colours. Make your RV your own!
We can't wait to get this update into your hands in May and hear what you think! Keep an eye out for news on the update release.
We're excited to share that the next update for Long Drive North, launching May/June, will feature a shared RV option for multiplayer, as well as a number of RV upgrades including: engine upgrades; appliances; storage options; liveries and more!
We hugely appreciate the support you've all given us, especially those of you who purchased the game at launch and have been here since day one.
Here is a sneak peak at some highly requested features that will be a part of the next update. We can’t wait to hear what you think!
Standing in the back of a moving RV isn't ideal, so friends will have their very own, super comfy passenger seat!
We're also implementing the ability to place your bed roll in the over-cab above the driver's seat for a cosy night's sleep.
In this update, you will not start with a ladder on your RV, you will need to craft it. BUT, once crafted, the new ladder can be used by you and your friends!
Keep an eye out for more news as we move towards our next update!
New update live now, plus a 60% discount!

Fixed issue where equipable items would get stuck to the player.
Work is progressing nicely on the first major update for Long Drive North. As we move towards the late January update release we wanted to share a first look at some of the new points of interest you'll be exploring and scavenging!
As previously announced, this update focuses on improving the world and loot balancing. We're also adding a storm difficulty setting, keybinds and controller remapping, improving exploration and more.
Please note that all content shown and discussed here is work in progress and may be subject to change.
As well as surfacing existing POIs more clearly we're also adding a variety of new ones. You'll have to keep an eye out for new locations to explore and scavenge, including the farm, the trailer park and the junkyard!
In addition to giving you more to explore we're also making exploration more meaningful. Careful loot rebalancing is a large part of this, ensuring that watching out for POIs and looting them are key to your survival. Another way we're making POI exploration more rewarding is by introducing recipe sheets which you can find - store them in your inventory or stick them on your RV walls as posters.
A priority for this update is making the world feel more expansive and varied - take a look at the new rocky road area we've been working on!
We can't wait to get this update in your hands whether you've already begun your roadtrip or you're looking to begin your journey soon! Remember we'll be launching a new demo alongside this update so you can try the newly updated Long Drive North before you buy - plus you'll be able to transfer your save progress over to the game should you pick it up.
See you soon!
We're working away on the first major update for Long Drive North, launching late January. This update focuses on storm gameplay, quality of life improvements, loot balancing and more.
In addition to our internal playtesting, it's crucial that we gain additional feedback and bug reports ahead of the public launch in January, which will allow us to make adjustments before it goes live publicly - and ensure a better game update for everyone.
We want as much feedback and as many bug reports as we can get, which is why we've launched an early version of the January update on the unstable branch, available now for community testing!
Not all of you will want to play an update early - as the name implies, this unstable version is expected to be buggier and less stable than the version which is later released publicly. It is also missing some elements of the update which are still being worked on.
If you don't want to play this early unstable version, you don't need to do anything. You'll receive the update automatically when it is released publicly in late January.
For those of you who do want to jump in and play this early version, please follow these steps below and make sure to let us know what you think of the update on the Steam forums and our Discord.
PLEASE NOTE: WE RECOMMEND YOU START A NEW SAVE FILE TO SEE THE FULL IMPACT OF THE STORM ADJUSTMENTS AND LOOT REBALANCING.
There's also a known issue with this build where characters or RVs may be invisible. If you encounter this issue, please press the keys CTRL+F5 to refresh the world, which will make characters or RVs reappear.
- Load up Steam and head to your library
- Right click on Long Drive North and then select "Properties"
- Head to the Beta tab and in the drop down select "unstable_test_branch" (no password needed)
- This will then download the new update for you

We're hard at work on the first major update for Long Drive North, and we wanted to take a moment to keep you all in the loop and speak about some of our progress so far!
As previously announced, our first major update will now launch in late January and will focus on improving the world and loot balancing. Please take a read of this previous announcement if you haven't already, as today's post will just be speaking about some of the improvements and additions rather than the entire update.
Please note that all content shown and discussed here is work in progress and may be subject to change.
One element of the update which we've been focused on is improving visibility of important POIs, as we are finding that lots of people are driving past some of the more hidden points of interest, adding to the feeling of the world being empty.
We are working on a number of improvements in this area:
Adding a visual indicator on the compass to indicate nearby medium and large points of interest (POIs)
Changing dog companion behaviour, so that they will bark when passing medium and large points of interest (POIs)
Adding a new tire track texture to better highlight off-road shortcuts and hidden areas.
Another aspect we're keen to improve on in this update is the storm. We're working hard on a number of improvements to ensure a more consistent and logical gameplay experience and to offer more player choice:
Adding a storm indicator in the bottom right-hand corner of the HUD, to tell you how many in-game hours away the storm is, rather than distance, allowing you to understand how much time you have before the storm gets too close.
Tweaking the storm so that it will now move at a constant speed, rather than jumping unpredictably.
Adding a ‘Storm Slider’, allowing you to select the speed of the storm, essentially controlling how easy or challenging you wish the storm speed to be. This should help allow for a calmer experience for those of you who find the current storm overbearing or a more intense survival experience for those of you finding the current storm not threatening enough.
Alongside bug fixes, another area we have been working on for this upcoming January update is quality of life. Here's just some of the additions in development aimed at making the game a better overall experience:
Adding keybindings for keyboard and mouse
Adding button remapping for controller
Adding the ability to pause the game in singleplayer
Thanks for checking in and we hope you enjoyed this sneak peak at some of the improvements we're working on to be released in the January update!
Hello,
We have fixed an issue regarding saving:
Saving outside your RV caused you to load back into the game in the incorrect location.
Please take a read of our previous announcement for further details on our update plan!
Thanks again for your reports and support for Long Drive North.
Hello all,
First off, thank you so much for playing Long Drive North, and sorry for the radio silence so far - following all of the feedback we needed to take stock and revise our planned updates.
It's clear that the game has not met your expectations at Early Access launch, and for that we are sorry.
We have a small bug fix patch which is now live. This patch will not address a lot of your issues and concerns, but we wanted to show you that we are still here, and that we will be launching some bigger updates over the coming months.
We have always wanted Long Drive North to be a true Early Access game, where we listen to what you want. As a small team, there will be issues and bugs that can only be found with lots of people playing the game, so we really appreciate all of your feedback! We are listening.
We have seen a lot of comments about the price of the game. There's a tough balance in Early Access: launch too soon and there's not enough content, launch too late and players can’t help shape the game. We believed we had enough content, and have been very open about what is and is not in the game at launch - we didn’t want players buying the game without understanding this.
That said, it’s clear that many of you aren’t yet feeling that the price you paid was worth the money, and we are sorry for that. We hope that over the life of the game we can deliver on what you expected and rectify your feelings towards this. With this in mind, we wanted to outline what we see as the journey forward:
Our first major update will now launch in late January and will focus on improving the world.
We have had lots of reports of the map ending, and people falling through the world. Fixing this is our first priority. Your bug reports have been really valuable in helping us understand why this is happening.
In addition, we are finding that lots of people are driving past some of the more hidden points of interest, adding to the feeling of the world being empty. We'll make the location of more of these important POIs more obvious. Plus, we'll be improving the way the map is created to add more variety and more places to explore and loot.
Finally, we will be re-balancing the loot system to address your feedback about food and other items.
These are the foundations of the game, so it is important we address these first.
Alongside the update in January, we'll be launching a new demo - so if you have not purchased it yet, you can check our progress, and buy when it feels right for you. We want to ensure you all get a chance to play before you buy, and check you're getting the experience you expect.
Once the game foundations are improved, and it is clear that players are happy with the work we are doing, we will add shared RV support.
🐛 Bug Fixes
Fixed issue where jerrycan would stick to the player after siphoning fuel
Fixed issue with player falling through the ground upon loading a save game
Fixed Authentication issue preventing players from joining a multiplayer session
Fixed arrows not saving when placed on the ground inside or outside RV
Fixed issue where renaming a save file prevented players from loading it
Fixed issue where tire condition wouldn’t increase if repaired by other players
Fixed issue where no audio would play when the RV crashed into an object
Fixed issue where the dog would float outside the RV when barking at the incoming storm
Fixed issue where abandoned vehicles would show differing fuel amounts per player
Fixed issue where weather wouldn’t progress after the player slept

Thank you for your support so far.

In our final pre-launch checks we have encountered some save issues. We have therefore taken the tough decision to delay Early Access launch until November 18.

In our final pre-launch checks we have found some issues with saving and loading. As an Early Access game, there will always be some bugs and glitches. We appreciate that this news will be disappointing to many of you who are excited join our Early Access journey. Thank you all for your patience. We can’t wait to get the game into your hands on November 18!

Limited to just two routes, the Long Drive North Early Access Demo is your first look at this highly anticipated game. Explore and survive the harsh American wilderness as you drive and repair your trusty old RV, scavenge for parts, hunt and cook to survive. The demo (and the initial Early Access launch version) supports single player, and up to 4 player co-op in separate RVs. Steam Playtest players are selected at random, so applying does not guarantee participation. Players selected for the playtest will have the ability to invite up to three friends from their Steam friends list, to enable multiplayer testing. The successful applicants (selected at random by Steam) will receive an email from Steam once they have been accepted – so check your email inbox on Monday 1st September (including junk)!
If you have not received an email by 2nd September and your playtest status on the store page has not changed, you can assume you were unsuccessful this time.
