Full Steam announcements and update articles for this title.
We're already halfway through July, and honestly? Seeing how many of you are counting down the days for the update has been incredible. Quick clarification before we dive in though: this is a devlog, not the update itself!
But... mark your calendars, because after a long wait, we can officially confirm the release date is October 30th, 2026 - Leaf it Alone's 1st anniversary. Circle it, count down to it, we're just as hyped as you are! 😎 We've been sitting on this date for a while, and it feels good to finally say it out loud. October 30th isn't just a release day for us - it's the day this whole thing started. And it feels worth saying there's no publisher nor any big corporation behind Leaf it Alone. It's just us, a small team that only formed last year! Getting to hand you a free update on our own anniversary means more to us than we can really put into words 🎉
The Castle map is shaping up to be a little bit different from what you're used to. Alongside the usual leaf collecting, we're adding a handful of small activities scattered around the map. Think of them as little breathers - moments where you can put the rake down for a minute and do something else, before going back to clean up more leaves.
We're not ready to show off everything yet (some of it we'd rather you discover in-game), but here's a peek at two activities we can talk about right now!
Following up the passive simulation performance enhancements from the first devlog, we took our time to inspect what could be improved when interacting with a large number of leaves simultaneously. To our surprise, quite a lot! It's difficult to provide consistent framerate comparisons, due to the nature of what's being optimized, but blowing all Greenhouse leaves through the Maze to its inlet doesn't scare us to death anymore! At least with the minimum hardware requirements being met 😅 It's important to provide this, not only because it will enable more people to fully enjoy the basic game experience, but also because of the upcoming Custom Mode and all areas being accessible from the start along with the tools.
On top of that, an honorable mention goes to the initial asset loading being revised as well, speeding up the game booting time, which the result of will also strongly depend on the individual gaming setup.
That's it for now! October 30th is on the calendar, and we can't wait to get this into your hands. To mark the occasion, Leaf it Alone is 35% off starting today - the biggest discount we've ever done! So if you haven't picked up Leaf it Alone yet (or know someone who's been on the fence) there's never been a better time to jump in! Thanks for sticking with us and see you in the next one! 😊
June is here, and so are we, as promised! 😄 Today we're pulling back the curtain on something a lot of you have been requesting for a while, which is the NEW GAME+. We saw it come up a lot in reviews and discussions, so we're happy to confirm that it will be a part of the 1.1 Update.
Going forward, the game will offer two distinct ways to play: Story and Custom.
Story Mode stays the same as the classic Leaf it Alone experience, where maps are played one after another in sequence.
Custom Mode, on the other hand, lets you start a fresh run on your own terms, with a set of options to configure. It unlocks once you've completed a given map in Story Mode.
Quite a bit! Before starting your run, you'll be able to configure the following:
set your starting money
adjust the income multiplier
choose which tools you begin with
unlock all tool upgrades
and even grant access to all areas, along with their associated cleaning rewards
The goal is to let you jump straight into the parts you enjoy the most - whether that's experimenting with different setups or simply skipping the early game grind. We're also keeping the door open to adding more options down the line if something fits naturally!
One important note is that Custom Mode won't unlock achievements. We want to keep things fair for everyone who has put in the effort to earn them the normal way, and modifying your starting conditions means the playing field just isn't the same. That said, there's an exception worth mentioning...
If you start a Custom run with all settings at default, achievements still unlock and your runs still count on the leaderboard! This is handled through the Ranked toggle, which enforces the default ruleset. But what does Custom Mode actually offer in that case? Some handy improvements nonetheless:
cutscenes will be skipped automatically
you can choose which map to play
and you can restart your run directly from the Pause Menu!
While working on Custom Mode, we also gave the Load Menu a small but meaningful refresh. Each save slot will now display the active map for that save alongside the mode it was started in. We've also added new key bindings for loading and deleting saves to make navigation quicker. Also, in Story Mode, you'll have an option to select the previously played maps when starting a new session, making it easier to revisit earlier locations and unlock any objectives or achievements you may have missed!
That's everything there is to know about Custom Mode for now as it's nearly finished. On top of that, any pre-1.1 saves will be fully compatible and those who have previously completed the game, will have the Custom Mode for the first map available from the get-go. See you all in the next one! 😊
We would like to share some partial progress from the upcoming Update 1.1, since it has gathered an immense amount of interest, which we're sincerely grateful for as the whole team! To answer the first unasked (yet) question, the release date of the update is still unknown, but we're constantly working on it. Starting with this devlog, we want to keep you guys better informed about what's happening behind the scenes on a more regular basis. 😅
The update will not provide just the promised 2 new maps. It will come with lots of quality-of-life features, interface improvements, performance optimizations and more! The current live version of Leaf it Alone is pretty stable, with just occasional hiccups, but can still be a struggle for lower-end setups. That's also an area, that we're taking a look into.
Since we know you're eager to see the new maps, here's a little sneak peek about one of them. We don't want to spoil everything just yet, but suggestions and guesses are more than welcome in the comments!
It's one of the features that were supposed to be there in the 1.0 version of Leaf it Alone, but we started to run out of time before the planned mid-autumn game release. It's long overdue, and we're excited to finally get it in your hands!
Another such feature is an in-game timer. This will be disabled by default in the settings, since the game's main theme is still being relaxing. Although, it will be there for those who enjoy going faster and faster, yet are not as invested to use LiveSplit, that is already supported by the game.
The map is getting some well-deserved attention too! New markers have been added for leaf inlets and trash bins, so navigating each area should feel more intuitive and make planning where to spend your money a lot more thoughtful. On top of that, once you've collected all the leaves in an area, it will now be colored on the map, making it much easier to track your progress at a glance! 😎
We have figured out ways to improve the framerate without compromising the quality of the leaf physics, which is the main performance bottleneck for basically everyone. The results are already very promising, although we're not finished optimizing it just yet.
What's done so far impacts the "passive" framerate by limiting the number of leaves that are considered for an update at a given frame, based on their distance to the player, as well as any other objects that can interact with leaves (leaf bags, balls and all the doors).
Performance tests were conducted on a few testing configurations. The expected outcome is that the higher the rendered resolution is, the lower the framerate increase should be seen. Here's a rough comparison of what the current efforts for the average framerate have resulted in.
Further planned improvements are dedicated to direct interactions, especially with lots of insanely clumped leaf piles, which if turn out as good as expected, will seriously help with the framerate altogether when playing.
These are just a few highlights of what's coming in the upcoming Update 1.1! We're happy to share this with you guys and we would like to invite you along with us on this small development journey. See you all again in June! 😊
Hey, fellow leaf rakers! 🍂 We figured it's time to crawl out from behind the bushes and give you a little behind-the-scenes update, because yes... we know we've left you hanging 😅 It's already been over 3 months since Leaf it Alone launched last October, and we just want to say a massive THANK YOU to this amazing community ❤️ Nearly 200,000 of you decided that raking leaves through a screen was a fantastic life choice - and another 100,000 still wishes to do so. That's honestly mind-blowing and way beyond anything we expected! 🤯 All of the feedback that reaches us via different communication channels is taken a look at, even if not answered at all times. Of course, the #1 request, that we see, is to add new content - so we've got some good and bad news for you all. The bad news is that there will not be a new map 😞
.
.
.
But the good news is that there will actually be TWO new maps coming into the game, that we are now working on! ❤️ We don't have a release date to share just yet - quality takes time, and we want these maps to be worth the wait, but you guys should at least know that we are continuing to work on the game to add this content! To share more information about localizing Leaf it Alone even further - we will be open for community-based translations for the upcoming major update - meaning there will not be any new languages coming to the game before that. If anyone feels like wanting to help the game with such, we will be more than happy to provide this opportunity! We will let you guys know, once we are ready to start with it 😄 We're still figuring out the best way to communicate with the community - what to share, and what not to - so the expectations don't become overwhelming for our small team. We guess that time will show us the way forward with that, but one thing is sure… You'll definitely be hearing more from us! ❤️ Thanks again for all the love and patience! Eternity Team
