Full Steam announcements and update articles for this title.
A smaller update this time, focused on stability (fewer crashes!) and performance (better FPS on underpowered machines!) rather than new content.
🐛 Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where burying a card could corrupt your discard pile, causing your deck to balloon in size over a long game.
Fixed rune cards sometimes returning the wrong card to your discard pile when removed.
⚡ Performance
Fixed a memory leak while idling on the main menu that could grind the game down if you...left it running in the menu. Nobody did this, but hey. Now it's fixed.
Camera panning is now ever so slightly smoother.
Starting a fresh game is now slightly faster.

This update is kind of a strange one: it's sort of a major update, because it adds a whole new scenario that's unlocked right from the start. But it's sort of a minor update, because that scenario is a free-form Sandbox mode where it's impossible to win (or lose!), but you can build freely and explore.
I'm not a big "sandbox" kind of player myself, but even I lost a few more hours than I'd care to admit just chilling out and building a giant island without having to worry about mana. If that's your thing – if you just want to plop tiles for a bit and relax – this update is for you!
🖱️ Mouse-only players, this one's for you! The big change in this update is the addition of a new camera movement mode: right-click-and-drag with the mouse now rotates, zooms, and tilts the camera – allowing you to move freely (and, really, play the whole game) with just the mouse.
I've also added a few bonus quality-of-life features folks have asked for, like an in-game UI scale slider, and added a highlight outline that shows you the current selected tile. If you're playing on a smaller screen (cough Steam Deck cough) this one will probably make your island-building a lot less error-prone. I'm pretty much a 100% Steam Deck player myself, and I'm definitely a fan.
Hopefully you will be, too.
Fixed a bug where corner ribbons on foil cards did not disappear on hover (in the card library and when selecting cards to draw).
Extended loading screen tips so they stay on-screen long enough to actually read.
Right click-and-drag with the mouse now rotates and zooms the camera.
Added a UI scale slider right inline in the in-game menu.
Added a white outline to land tiles when they’re hovered or selected.
Made the “this card can’t be played on this tile” indicator (a red X-marks-the-spot) larger and more prominent.
I'm still working on the card balance for the first big (free!) content update coming in a few weeks, but until then keep those bug reports and feature requests coming! Best place is probably to leave 'em in the comments to this post or in a review.
🏝️ Hey, fellow island folks! I've gotten some great feedback and a bunch of fantastic suggestions for improvements and new content in this past week following the launch, and I'm pleased to say that I'm releasing an update to Isles & Tiles today that fixes a handful of bugs and makes a few tweaks here and there that should make the game a fair bit nicer to play.
Big thanks in particular to Renraku for a fantastic Steam review that included a veritable laundry list of great suggestions and quality bug reports. A lot of those have been fixed in this update, and I hope to have more to come next week!
Fix incorrect description on Blacksmith card, to indicate that it produces +1 iron for every 2 (not 1) adjacent mines
Fix one-time mana bonus from playing a Mana resource card (was 5, now 10) so it matches the description on the card.
Tweaked the size & auto-scaling of the current hand, so it displays slightly smaller and adapts better to hands with 8+ cards.
Fixed a bug where Rune cards would still appear in your draw pile even when ‘toggled off’ in the card library.
Fixed a localization bug in Japanese & Chinese where the “Skip for N Gold” button could sometimes have missing glyphs.
The corner ribbons on foil cards now fade out when you hover the card, to prevent them from obscuring which tile types a card can be played on.
And finally, Isles & Tiles is part of the Best Indie Games Fall Showcase, taking place on September 2nd. Be sure to check it out, as I'm sure there will be a smorgasbord of awesome indie games on display!
Need one last blast of that chill summer feeling before school starts? Check out Isles & Tiles, out now and on sale for 15% off during the 2025 Back to School Games Celebration.
So, a confession: development on the (free!) post-release content update for Isles & Tiles has been a bit slower for the last month or two than I'd planned. That's 100% because I finally got my hands on an OLED Steam Deck in order to make sure the game plays well on the it, and wow is this thing an absolute rockstar of a machine. I'm kind of in love.
(It didn't help that the Deck arrived pretty much the same time as the Oblivion remaster; I'm such a sucker for a good nostalgia trip, and stomping around Cyrodil on the Steam Deck was such a delight).
Anyway, all that's to say that the last pre-release update for Isles & Tiles is here, and mostly fixes a bunch of little edge-case UI bugs that made the game less nice to play on tiny screens like the Deck. So if you're looking for a chill game to add to your Steam Deck, you can safely ignore the "Steam is still learning about this game" warning – Isles & Tiles plays great on the Deck, and it's now my primary testing device.
It turns out that a lot more folks are playing on Steam Deck than I would have expected! I'm still working on proper Steam Deck support which I expect to have done by the end of this weekend (sorry, new Next Fest Steam Deck players!), but in the meantime I've updated both the game and the demo to use a custom, nicer UI scale on the Steam Deck's relatively small native screen resolution. Isles & Tiles will also ship with a custom Steam Deck input template – look for it on the Workshop if it doesn't show up by default!
There's no other new content in this update, sadly. I have a ton more story beats and decisions coming in the next update, but I'm not quite happy with some of 'em so you'll have to wait until next week to check those out.
