As of now, this edit has been propagated to English, Russian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese translations. If you notice something that's puzzling or less clear than desired, we're always there for you on Steam Forums and the Discord server, and will appreciate a description of the situation.

We started the year of 2025 with the campaign of weekly updates for Gremlins, Inc. Our initial goal was to keep updating the game until the end of the year; we ended up releasing a total of 24 updates by July. While that's not a bad number, it's true that we set a goal that was a little too unrealistic. Having released these updates, we managed to harmonize most of the Japanese, English and Russian texts in the game, focusing on clarity and terminology. And now the time has come to improve the texts in Simplified Chinese, as you will learn from this announcement. Outside of Gremlins, Inc., in 2025 we released a playable demo of Sister ion a Dragon, our take on turn-based combat that mixes magic and weapons. Following the release of the demo, we placed that project on pause – because we bit more than we could chew, and will need to increase our team's bandwidth to continue. At the same time, we liked the combat system that we created there (see if you can beat all the challenges in this demo!), and it's quite possible that eventually we will create a multiplayer version of this game, “a duel of mages” with an arena-type sequence of fights. But that’s for the future. Now, once Sister of a Dragon was placed on pause, we turned our attention to a project that some of you may be already familiar with: a card game set in the world of gremlins, which is now called Gremlins, Inc. – Cards & Projects. It first exited as a real-life deck, then as a print-and-play DLC, and now it's a proper digital board game. Keep reading for more details about it. All in all, today we have a few good news for you:

• we’re releasing a ːcardsː new card for Gremlins, Inc. – a tribute to our neighbors at Lazy Bear Games studio; plus, we introduce minor balancing changes for two other cards.
• we’re starting on the harmonization of the ːchinaː Simplified Chinese texts in Gremlins, Inc., so that a large part of our audience can enjoy rules that are easier to understand, and a terminology that's more consistent.
• with today's release, we're updating ːcursecardːin-game texts in Simplified Chinese, Japanese, English, Russian and Spanish, plus fixes for smaller issues like spelling in a number of other languages.
• we’re also introducing our new game set in the world of gremlins, titled ːcheatdiceː Gremlins, Inc. – Cards & Projects: a true digital board game where the UI allows you to experience the intensity that’s simply impossible in the real world

Nikita is the game designer at Lazy Bear Games, and his most successful game is Graveyard Keeper. We wanted to include a reference to his work. So, first came the name. Then came the permanent card with an effect that fit the name, and involved a bit of a risk. This card is a little similar to ːcardsː The Counterfeit, but instead of actively stealing someone else's permanent, here the ability is reactive. Please be careful not to be pressured into paying off ːcardsː Quick loan.

In the community, some players expressed that they do not want to play this card in the early stages of the session.

Having 5 active permanent cards is quite a feat in itself. However, the sheer luck of drawing this card in that moment can sometimes bring about drastic changes in the session, such as almost ending it, or deciding on the winner, which likely caused the frustration. Because of this, we decided to reduce the score that is received at once, without changing the power of the card itself. Instead, we made it so that players could get money along with the score. Playing this card won't give you a huge score unless you use the money that you receive, to play more cards. This means that you'll need to play more strategically, and there's a greater chance that others will have a chance to interfere with your plan along the way.

SIMPLIFIED CHINESE: FEEDBACK WELCOME!

The largest part of the audience of Gremlins, Inc. right now plays the game in the Simplified Chinese language (followed by Russian and Japanese languages). This is the result of many things, among them – the excellent work of our partners at HeyBox, to whom we are grateful for maintaining a local wiki base about the game; and the tradition of complex board games (including mahjong!) that exists in Asia. If you can play mahjong, keeping in mind all the combinations and opportunities – of course, you will excel in Gremlins, Inc. In all these years, we translated the game into the Simplified Chinese through a friend's agency. It was reliable, and on time, but we never had a direct contact with a translator, and we never had someone just play the game to see where the style is off, or maybe the translation is no longer up to date. We're privileged to have met Sam, a professional translator based in China, who signed up to work with us on improving the quality of the Simplified Chinese localization of Gremlins, Inc. – and best of all, Sam also already started to work on Gremlins, Inc. – Cards & Projects, so that its playtest will already be available with a proper translation. If you play Gremlins, Inc. in Simplified Chinese, please share with us here or on Discord any feedback that you may have on the edits to the texts that may be necessary, in your opinion. We also would love to know if you have any interest in playing this game – or the upcoming Cards & Projects – in the Traditional Chinese language. We have not localized into that language before and we're uncertain about how much demand there could be.

TEXT EDITS

With his update, we have improved a number of texts in Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Russian, English and Spanish. This is a part of the regular "housekeeping" that we do from time to time, whenever someone reports a spelling mistake or a rule that's not described with enough clarity. As we work on improving the Chinese version, we will be shipping similar updates once in a while; so if you have any suggestions on what to change, please let us know.

NEW GAME: GREMLINS, INC. – CARDS & PROJECTS

We are a few weeks away from the start of Steam Playtest for our new digital board game (you can already sign up on its store page): https://store.steampowered.com/app/860560/Gremlins_Inc__Cards__Projects/ The game is based on a deck of cards, and the system of projects; similarly to the current game, it allows you to both plan and derail the plans of the others. The game has a single-player mode that doesn't require a connection to server (so, no need to have a separate app for this), and a multiplayer mode. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/10455725/8ea9369c1b09ba6228d3bb204e95751d7681fc7a.jpg We first started developing this project a few years ago, as a proof-of-concept for a Nintendo Switch version. We have returned it into the active development mode since last September, and right now this is what everyone is busy with: we update the build almost every day, and we're very excited about the upcoming Steam Playtest when we will get the first player feedback. At this time, we focus on the duels (1vs1). Once the game is in Early Access, we'll look into having 3 and more players, as well as into team format. 1/3 TEXT UPDATES

These edits will be reflected in Simplified Chinese in a couple of weeks. We also updated about 10 descriptions in Simplified Chinese. We will continue to edit on a weekly basis for clarity, and to synchronize the terms used across the game, in English, Japanese, Russian and Simplified Chinese, for a few more weeks – then we'll harmonize a few other languages. The goal of this project is to make the game easier to grasp for new players, as well as more transparent for everyone. This also helps us to prepare the real-life board game version of Gremlins, Inc., as well as the backbone of the modding module for Gremlins, Inc. 2.

2/3 NEW CARD: "SECRET WAREHOUSE"

3/3 NEW ART: "MORAL DILEMMA"

The effect does not change, but the flavour text is new (for now, in English, Russian and Japanese; Simplified Chinese is coming a bit later). When we developed the game many years ago, we didn't have the time to do high-detailed illustrations for those. We now decided to amend that. When all the new visuals are ready, we will update the UI of the Misfortune window itself (for the moment, we'll stick to the stamp design and the system of color codes).

We also started working on another new action card. We'll wait until we sell 10K more copies before we release it.

BONUS SECTION

This week, we join Steam Next Fest with our new game – Sister of a Dragon. LANGUAGE EDITS

The last week (as well as the whole weekend) we burned a lot of midnight oil, and edited over 100 cards, descriptions of spots and locations. To give you an idea of what we're doing, here's a few examples from the hundred+ of fixes that we've made: Before After You can re-roll the dice while searching for treasure. Search for treasure. You can re-roll the dice once. Only the result of the last roll counts. If you want, you may skip a turn here to lose ːmaliceː {2} and choose one out of {1} new cards. If you want: rest by skipping 1 turn; when you rest: -{2}ːmaliceː, draw {1} cards from the deck – you may choose 1 card to keep. Discard all your cards. Get ${1} and ːmaliceː{2}. Discard your hand. +{1}$, +{2}ːmaliceː. :bh2coin: The first case was typical for a lot of descriptions: you needed to read the whole sentence to understand what it means. "You can re-roll" – wait, what? Why can I re-roll? We fix this by putting the action first, in this case – 'search for Treasure'. We also standardize the common terms: not "you can re-roll the dice", but "you can re-roll the dice once", since there are a few cards where you can re-roll twice; just "re-roll" is not good enough. And, we add the clarification that only the results of the last roll count, since in a few board games you would be able to choose "the best of all rolls". Here, we want to be clear upfront. :bh2coin: The second example is a deeper rabbit hole. The legacy description does not explain, that you lose malice and look at the new cards only during the skipped turn; i.e. if you stop to rest in the Astral Plane, but someone teleports you from there before you have skipped your turn... these things won't happen. Moreover, the legacy description says "you may choose one out of N new cards". We split this into the specific actions: you draw N cards from the deck, and you may choose to keep 1 – or not to keep anything at all. :bh2coin: The third example is typical for harmonizing the terms, and making card rules concise. When you drop all of your cards into the discard pile, we call this "your hand". Maybe someone will think that "discard all. your cards" also includes active permanent cards? It makes more sense to use the term "hand". And, we used to have a lot of verbs like "get", "gain", "lose", as well as "and" connecting the values. We transition to using just + and –, which helps even more significantly in the languages where "get" is not 3 characters, but, say, 8 like in Russian ("получите"). All in all, we look at these edits as preparing the game for being moddable, as well as getting it ready for the possible real-life board game edition. All of these edits happen in English, Japanese and Russian for now, with Simplified Chinese following with a week's delay. LANGUAGE EDITS

In the coming week, we will focus on the edits of special abilities. For example, this is coming among other edits: Before After Every time you roll "1", your {income} rises by {1}. When you roll 1 on the dice: {income}|+{1}. When re-rolling, only the result of the last roll counts. It's the usual harmonization and clarification: "rises by" –> +, "every time" –> "when"; we add "dice" to the verb "to roll" because in some languages, it's required to deliver the specific meaning; and we add the details about only the last result being taken into account, to prevent any possible confusion that you could re-roll and get the results of this ability with every 1 that shows up, during any of the attempts. It may not be the most exciting work in the world... to the veteran players, these changes are all but invisible... but we think it makes the game more accessible, easier to understand, and thus we will see more people playing with confidence. UPDATE 16/05/2025

LANGUAGE EDITS

We updated about 30 descriptions of action cards in English. This was a big chunk of harmonization of language, including getting rid of "opponent" where it really meant "any other player" and making the rules easier to grasp by re-phrasing based on the "(what happens) (condition)" scheme. We updated about 40 descriptions of action cards in Russian. Typical harmonization involves using the same words to mean the same thing, and using the same phrase (1:1) for the same condition in different cards. It's all meant to make the game easier to get into, and it also prepares us for the board game edition. We updated about 60 descriptions of action cards in Japanese. These 3 languages – English, Russian and Japanese – are the languages of our team, and thus we're able to make changes on the fly. In addition to them, we also coordinate with the external Chinese translator. As to the other languages, we will edit them only when all the English-language edits are done. We updated 3 descriptions of cards in Simplified Chinese. Unfortunately, here we lag on the "primary" languages. We updated the description of 1 Chaos card in English, Russian, and Japanese. We made some progress with the first illustration for Misfortunes that will receive a new format once we're done. We've edited a number of action cards, but these edits are not yet included in this week's update. We will roll them in during the coming week. A few will change the titles of the cards in English and/or in Russian – where one of the languages doesn't match the mechanics, or the concept, of the card (there are a few such cases, for example, one card is called "Propaganda" in all the languages except for English and CJK where it was translated as "Persuasion", and so on). We have agreed to add an option to "surrender" to the duel mode, when we have a chance to do it – it's not a huge thing for the losing player, who can even now simply leave the session, but it will help the winning player to save their time. When we switched off flavor texts on Telegrams of Misfortune in the game, we didn't do this in a couple of instances that you have since reported – we'll look into this in the coming weeks.

The weekly update was delayed by a few days, as we spent the weekend re-writing a part of the core code because we – can you believe it? – have hit the C# assembly limits. This is the sort of prizes you get for updating a project that was created 10+ years ago ːmaliceː.

ROADMAP

We started prototyping a new format for ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune, which should make them more integrated into the lore of the world, and which should fix the current gap between flavor texts and actual effects. Above you can see the first new Misfortune photograph, that illustrates a new story (which is based on one of the existing telegrams). Gone will be the different shapes, and the colors of the stamps, that often cause more confusion than clarity. We hope to update all of the Misfortunes by the end of this year, so that the board game edition of Gremlins, Inc. already gets these visuals; and once we have the whole set, we will update the video game just as well. It's a long process, we are at 2.5% of progress at this time.

At the same time, our own kids win the same battles with ease. Hence our commitment to implementing the tutorial early on...

UPDATE 2025/04/18

This week we changed the mechanics of two cards – but as we're not satisfied with the result, we decided not to release this change into the public server yet. We also edited the descriptions of ːtelegramː Misfortunes, and managed to advance quite substantially. Mostly it's about tying the loose ends, i.e. synchronizing the effects and the flavor texts, plus the actual rules.

The big news from our side is that we've met a board game developer and publisher, whom we really liked, as their approach is similar to ours. He is Spanish, but he is based in Italy. With the most successful game from his portfolio selling in excess of 2 million copies worldwide. We now started to discuss the possibility to launch either a card game based on Gremlins, Inc., or a board game – with the playing field, and the tokens, and all the action cards and Misfortunes and jail cards; or both. What we're very eager for: to have a professional board game designer look at the current card game, and help us balance it better. Bonus points: if we actually manage to do the real thing, the whole board, it would be so very cool – to hold in the hands a real-life version of this digital game! Anyways, there is a long way forward still, but we wanted to let you know, that for the first time in years, we actually met someone who thinks like us, iterates like us, and understands this game. So, hopefully, something comes out of this meeting! We just dispatched to his team one of the last few remaining printed deck of the card game. Now we will see, what he thinks about the current balance. If this comes to pass, we have a number of cool ideas of how Kickstarter stretch goals can have an impact both on the board game project, and on the video game here on Steam :loot_sack:.

BUG FIXES

There was a bug that caused the Banker's ability, Money makes Money, to trigger under certain conditions when it should not have. This has been fixed (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː 4nsZei, Beanskers). In play logs at the bottom of the screen, there were incorrect values for ːmaliceː and ːscoreː gained when the special ability "Aggressor" of the Damned was triggered. As of last week, this bug could not be fixed in the public version. However, this has now been fixed and released to the public server (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː ロシェ).

LANGUAGE EDITS

Updated the descriptions of a few action cards. Language: Japanese. Updated the names and descriptions of around 10 action cards. Language: Polish (Thanks, :magic_sparkles: Zimniok, jack_was). Several other language tag errors have been fixed (Thanks, :magic_sparkles: Zimniok, BitsOBacon, alexandermagnoh).

USER INTERFACE

When a turn comes up, when a conflict occurs, or when a dialog box opens and a decision must be made, the Gremlins, Inc. icon in the taskbar now blinks. This only happens when the game is not the active window (thanks, :magic_sparkles: meltycyan).

BUG FIXES

In play logs at the bottom of the screen, there were incorrect values for the malice and score gained when the aggresor of the Damned was triggered. This has been fixed (thanks, :magic_sparkles: Several players who reported). When playing A Second Chance with an active Lucky Dice in ownership, it should have been possible to re-roll a total of three times, but only two. This has been fixed (Thanks, :magic_sparkles: Beanskers)

We updated the descriptions of a few action cards. Language: English, Russian, Japanese. Clarified the description of MF cards, which vary from language to language, but are roughly 20-25. It should be easier to understand, especially for MF cards where there is a choice. Some card names have also been changed. Language: English, Russian, Japanese. A Ukrainian description of the Fair Play Rules has been added. Typos in the Russian description of the Fair Play Rules have been fixed (thanks, :magic_sparkles: 4nsZei).

USER INTERFACE

CHARACTER STATS

Currently, the tally is shown for each number of players in a session, but this is of little use since ranked and tournaments are almost always held at 4 players in EU and 2 players in Asia. Therefore, we plan to change this, such as field 1/2, chaos card ON/OFF, etc.

There were a few typos and misleading expressions in Russian. This has been fixed (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː Infernomance, ːmagic_sparklesː SeniorQ, ːmagic_sparklesː SKWbISH, ːmagic_sparklesː прозрачный).

FAIR PLAY RULES

We decided to update the Fair Play Rules. Violators will be dealt with more strictly for the sake of a healthy community and the comfort of rule-abiding players. We will be particularly strict in punishing those who slander, display hate speech, or violate the rules multiple times without remorse. We'll be rolling out the edited versions of the rules, over the coming weeks in different languages.

SALES UPDATE

Thanks to the Daily Deal, Gremlins, Inc. was on the front page of Steam for a while. We're happy to report that the sales of the game in March already exceeded 10,000 copies. This provides us with additional motivation to continue improving the game. ːcardsː The Ancient Mechanism's effect adds ːscoreː at the end of each round, but this was described as 'at the start of each round'. This has now been fixed. Languages affected: English, Japanese, Russian (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː tonya). The description of ːcardsː Oligarch in Italian was unclear. This has been addressed (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː Garet_S).

USER INTERFACE

Points earned in tournament sessions, which can be found in the previous sessions in the player profile, did not match the points actually earned in tournaments. This was very confusing to players. We're considering an option "fast animation of token movement" that may speed up the sessions a little. We're also looking at we can display differently, on wide monitors. As it's a busy time at the studio, the progress in the following weeks could be slow. ––––– PS Let's take a break from promotions. We just need to focus on reaching playable demo with our new game, and then we'll see if you find it difficult or easy. This week we've created crystals that issue tokens that change their type on activation, and worked on high-cost Damage tokens issued by a mini-boss already at Level II. This is keeping us busy.
