Hello hunters! The boundary between our world and what hides on the other side has become thinner.
Darkness no longer just waits in the corners. It learns. It adapts. It breaks the familiar rules and makes even experienced hunters doubt every step.
This update opens a new chapter for - "Apocalypse". You can expect a reworked Insane difficulty, progression for additional content, a new modular tutorial, lobby updates, a new map, and much more.
The "Insane" difficulty has received not only visual changes, but also a major gameplay rework.
Now it is no longer just about higher risks and a more aggressive ghost. This is a mode where familiar tools begin to fail, protective items require more attention, and many old habits can cost you your life.
Tool
Changes
Candle
The candle now burns out faster. You will need to use it more carefully, and only where it is truly needed.
Crucifix
The crucifix no longer stops a hunt instantly. When activated, it creates a force barrier that slows the ghost down, while the hunt fully ends a few seconds later.
Directional microphone
The directional microphone can malfunction. Its readings can no longer be considered fully stable.
EMF
EMF signals now have a center. To get the maximum possible reading, you don’t just need to detect activity — you must find its exact location.
Energy drink
It has become more dangerous with frequent use. If you drink more than one energy drink, your base stamina is reduced by 15%.
Incense
Incense no longer activates instantly. You now need to hold the button, wait for it to fully burn, and only then will the effect take place.
Notebook
The notebook now only works in the ghost’s favorite room.
PEK
The PEK signal is now mobile. It can shift, making it harder to find the correct spot and requiring more attention.
Photo camera
The photo camera now has a limit of 3 charges.
Pills
Pills no longer restore sanity instantly. Sanity is now restored gradually over 60 seconds.
Radio
There is no longer a direct notification showing that a ghost response has been received. You will need to listen more carefully and determine on your own whether contact has been made.
Spray Paint
The paint spray can now has 3 charges.
Temperature
Negative temperatures can now appear everywhere until the boiler is turned on.
Video Camera
The video camera may occasionally malfunction. Expect interference and unstable operation.
Voice recorder
On “Apocalypse” difficulty, voice recorder icons are no longer displayed.
Urn
The incense urn now works slower and restores less sanity.
We continue to develop additional content and make it more detailed and refined. In the future, some mechanics related to additional content will have upgrade levels. The higher the level, the more dangerous and difficult encounters with the supernatural will become - but the rewards will also match the risk.
The Shadow World now has a level system. Play with the Shadow World enabled to increase your additional content level and unlock new challenges.
Level 1
At level 1, the Shadow World works as you are used to.
Level 2
Shadows become more dangerous. They leave behind darkness that slows hunters, and also introduce a new mystery.
Level 3
It unlocks a new variant of the Shadow World. This is not just a difficulty increase of a familiar mechanic, but a deeper and more dangerous immersion into a space where old rules no longer apply.
This is only the tip of the iceberg. Most of the additional content will, in the future, gain a level system.
A new tutorial has been added to the game. It is now modular, allowing players to better understand individual mechanics instead of receiving all the information as one large block. This should help newcomers learn the basics faster, while experienced players can refresh their knowledge on specific topics.
At the moment, only a few modules have been added, covering the basics from interaction to exorcism. In future updates, new detailed modules will be added for every aspect of the game.
Once a sealed M.O.S.F.M. laboratory. The place where the door between worlds was opened, and the people who worked there brought a terrible threat upon our world.
But the laboratory is not simply abandoned. Something inside is still waiting. Something remembers everyone who opened that door.
A new visual style (this time final) for the lobbies has been added to the game, and it is not just a cosmetic change — it is a sign of upcoming customization. Customization of rooms and some lobbies in full.
We plan to make it as free as possible. You will be able to decide what goes where and how, to make your own space as unique as possible.
Once available only to a select few, it is now open to everyone. The legendary hunter Bobby left it to our organization after his death.
We are also preparing a Supporter Pack, which will include additional lobby customization items, new visual styles for the character and the rover. For those who would like to support the development of the game.
As we mentioned in the dev blog, the elderly male ghost models have been reworked.
And the new energy drink model has also been updated.
Hello Hunters,
Today we'd like to give you a small glimpse into the update our team has been working on. This is the first dev blog in a series where we'll share development progress, upcoming features, and improvements currently in the works.
The "Insane" difficulty is being completely reworked and will now be called Madness.
Our goal is to make this difficulty far more tense and unpredictable. Several gameplay mechanics will behave differently, forcing players to adapt and stay alert.
For example:
the Crucifix will no longer activate instantly
the Directional Microphone may occasionally malfunction
some ghost interactions will become less predictable
Additionally, every map will receive unique visual changes when played on Madness difficulty, emphasizing the increased danger and atmosphere.
We're also updating several equipment models used during investigations.
More details about these changes will be shown in upcoming dev blogs, but for now we'd like to share a first look at the updated energy drink model.
We've heard your feedback regarding the new Grandfather Ghost model. Many players felt that it wasn't as frightening as it could be.
Taking this feedback into account, we've reworked the model to make it darker, more atmospheric, and closer to the original vision.
Work is also progressing on a brand new map — The Laboratory.
Players will be able to explore one of the research facilities operated by M.O.S.F.M. and uncover the experiments that were conducted there… and what ultimately went wrong.
Alongside these changes, we're currently developing new gameplay mechanics and additional content.
We'll go into more detail about these systems in future dev blogs. For now, here's a small preview of changes happening within the Shadow World.
Thank you for following the development of the game.
We'll see you in the next dev blog.

Greetings, Hunters. The year is coming to an end. For some, it was filled with artifacts and impressive sums on the bounty board. For others, with contracts that were anything but easy.
At times, the beam of a flashlight trembled in your hand, and footsteps behind you sounded far too close… yet you endured. You stood where others wouldn’t dare remain for even a single minute.
We want to thank you.
For coming back. For exploring. For never turning away from the darkness.
Happy New Year, Hunters. May the year ahead bring you more quiet nights, trusted partners, and successful banishments. Take care of yourselves — and of those fighting at your side. But remember: the job never waits.
And now — on to the update.
The closer the New Year draws, the heavier its footsteps become. The creak of floorboards, the dull clatter of chains, and a breath so cold it leaves frost creeping along the walls… Krampus has returned to his favored lair. And this time, he intends to ruin the holiday for everyone.
The village of elves — yes, those elves, not exactly easy on the eyes — is in danger once again. Their laughter has long since faded, the lights have gone out, and the path to the New Year Tree is sealed. To restore hope to the elves, you must gather cookie-keys of various shapes and unlock the way back to the tree upon which the very celebration depends.
Stealing the gifts and sealing the door to the New Year Tree was not enough for Krampus. He went further — abducting the villagers and turning them to stone, leaving only twisted figures in the halls of his mansion.
Recover the stolen gifts. Find the petrified elves. And remember — Krampus is always close.
The celebration can still be saved. If you make it in time.
This place was built to contain evil. Now, evil rules here.
The prison was shut down more than twenty years ago. Officially, the building was deemed unsafe. Unofficially, no one wanted to work here anymore. The cells stand empty, shift logs end on the same dates, and a howling echoes through the corridors — and it doesn’t sound like the wind…
— Why do we have to test the new equipment? — Stop whining. It means they trust us. — Yeah… or it means we’re the scapegoats.
— Wait… did you hear that?
At first, we mistook it for interference — but it was something far more sinister. It was as if it had been waiting to be heard…
Grimmua is a new type of otherworldly entity whose presence manifests through sound, symbols, and distortions of space itself. Extreme caution is advised when monitoring audio sensors.
1. When listening to the sound sensor in its favorite room, a piercing scream can be heard.
3. During a hunt, while outside its favorite room, the entity becomes significantly stronger and faster.
5. The entity creates invisible seals within its favorite room that weaken the player by disabling perks and extending the duration of the hunt. These seals can be detected and destroyed using a UV flashlight.
— But you’ll say, “Boss, how are we supposed to listen to sound sensors? That’s not what they’re for. We were never trained for this.” They are. Now.
And as for learning… you’ll figure it out yourselves.
You can now listen to audio from deployed sound sensors directly from the tent.
Yes, this feature was originally implemented to support the new entity type. However, it shouldn’t be viewed as a narrowly specialized tool. In the future, this system may find additional uses.
Added a new ghost model: an elderly man.
This model includes all variations of possible causes of death that can be determined during the investigation. The entity’s appearance will change depending on the circumstances of his death — watch the details closely.
A new jumpscare has been added, and several existing ones have been reworked. No details here — we don’t want to spoil the surprises.
New ambient sound effects have also been added.
Greetings, hunters — the Halloween event has come to an end. Ahead of us are the New Year, a new update, and of course, a festive event!
But let’s get back to the present. With the conclusion of the Halloween event, we've prepared a small update that fixes numerous issues, improves overall stability, and introduces a new ghost — so you won’t get bored while waiting for the upcoming New Year update.
Its presence feels like a shiver through reality itself: the outlines of objects warp, extra silhouettes flicker at the edge of your vision. It feels as if someone is standing right behind you, even when the room is empty. Those who have encountered Illusio say the world begins to lie to you — and it becomes impossible to tell what was real and what was only an illusion.
Level 1 – The entity does not appear on camera when viewed through the laser projection.
Level 3 – When photographed during a hunt, the entity appears only as a shadow.
Level 5 – During a hunt, the entity spawns several copies of itself — illusions that slow the player down. While the illusions are active, the real entity moves more slowly.
The photography system has been reworked, ensuring that photos taken by you and your teammates now look as similar as possible, while also reducing the system’s overall impact on your PC’s performance.
We’ve also added an arcade machine to the lobby. Each play costs 1 coin, and you now need to collect far fewer coins to win than before.
As rewards, you can receive:
free spins on other machines (2 for the price of 1),
as well as a random bonus if you’re lucky!
Other changes:
Fixed an issue where an incorrect number of coins was displayed when resetting a perk branch.
Resetting perks now returns 90% of the coins spent.
Adjusted the appearance of chains for Hiroku Level 5.
Incense now works until it fully burns out, instead of triggering only once when activated.
Fixed an issue where a photo of a favorite item would not be counted.
Fixed an issue where the tripod camera could take multiple photos of the ghost during a hunt.
Adjusted rover movement — it will now get stuck far less often when turning.
You can now retrieve any items from the rover at any time.
Southwest Blvd: fixed a wardrobe.
Gate C: fixed the offering interaction in the Western Building room.
Fixed an issue where the ghost could get stuck and be unable to move after using the crawling mode.
Fixed an issue where using the resurrection artifact would send the player back to the lobby in solo mode.
Fixed an issue causing Shinigami Level 3 to function incorrectly.
Phobias no longer work during hunts.
Phobias no longer work when additional content (document search) is disabled.
Increased the activation chance of Amanojaku Level 5’s ability.
The Keeper of the Shadow Realm now ignores the player for the first 3 seconds after appearing.
Reduced thunder volume in the house.
Claustrophobia no longer pushes items under beds or tables.
Added a sound amplification setting.
Fixed an issue with incense appearing inside the player model’s stomach.
Reiki and Revenant now accelerate footstep sounds and animations.
Fixed an issue where the player could “fly” on certain items when interacting with them.
Incompatible clothing pieces are now marked instead of being hidden.
Fixed an issue where removing clothing in the wardrobe did not work correctly.
Fixed a critical issue where the ghost could drop an item during OCD behavior.
Fixed an issue where the ghost with OCD could fail to return an item to its correct place.
Successful offering can no longer be performed more than once.
The ghost and its clones can no longer see the player in the Shadow Realm.
Fixed an issue where the trap seal barrier was not visible.
Private lobbies are now visible in the search list; public lobbies will always appear first.
Fixed an issue where the audio mode did not switch correctly.
ChaosTricks: added a small delay between event activations.
ChaosTricks: the system can now trigger multiple hunts in a row instead of only one.
Fixed an issue on the Museum map where the ghost was unable to reach the hunter.
Fixed an issue where the ghost would not always crawl out of the seal during exorcism.
Fixed an issue where the ghost with OCD could fail to carry an item from another room to the boundary of the favorite room.
Fixed a bug that prevented connecting to public lobbies
Fixed a bug where the arcade machine game cost was not displayed if the player had 0 cursed coins.
All Hallows’ Eve is drawing near, and we’ve run into (you’ve run into) more trouble. Remember Timmy? Yeah — that little rascal who steals candy and dances like nobody’s watching. Well, he’s been kidnapped! A ghostly faction has captured him and sealed him inside an ancient artifact — the “Cage of Judgment.” Friends, we have to set him free!
Unlocking the “Cage of Judgment” won’t be easy — brute force definitely won’t work.
Timmy is trapped in the Hill Oak Cemetery.
But the path to him is blocked not only by the Cage — first, you’ll have to make your way into the cemetery itself. You’ll need to beat one of the ghosts’ records in Ghost Chaser.
Solve riddles, uncover hidden clues, and prove your skills as an exorcist to reach the little one and set him free.
— Eddie, do you remember that alley where we first encountered that incredibly powerful entity?
— Of course. I almost died back then… It was right after our first successful exorcism. I still remember how it twisted that poor guy like a matchstick…
It’s hard to say for sure now whether the first portal opened at that very spot, but the intersection of 59th and Park Avenue was undoubtedly one of the first places where those twisted creatures were seen — and where many lives were lost...
The distance to the visual simplification of the tool has been adjusted.
Fixed a bug where an invisible object could appear in hallways and doorways.
Fixed a bug where the scaling algorithm could be enabled even if it was turned off in the settings.
"Viy" now activates the level 3 unique ability with a single clue, even if it is not a "laser projection"
Reduced the selection area for stamps in the 'Spray Can' interface to prevent potential misselection of the wrong stamp.
Added the ability to open the Steam profile from the 'Esc' menu.
Fixed a bug where the UV flashlight did not reveal fingerprints on other players when shone on them.
Fixed a bug where the rover moved too slowly.
Hey, hunters! Today’s update is a technical one. It brings a few new optimization features (you’ll find them in the Settings), along with several quality-of-life tweaks.
We’ve also done some general under-the-hood optimization, and added an integration we think some streamers will appreciate. Let’s dive into the details…
Good news for everyone who streams Ghost Exile—or loves watching it! You can now let your viewers make an already tough run even harder. Trigger a hunt? Easy. Hit the streamer with another jumpscare? Be my guest. It’s your stream… but it’s their rules.
A heads-up you’ll care about: we’ve upgraded our Unity engine version after a serious security vulnerability was discovered in older releases.
FSR & DLSS support added. You’ll find new options in Settings—test them out and tune upscaling to your preference!
Optimized tent tool rendering. When you’re far enough away (okay, not that far), tools now swap to low-poly placeholders to save performance.
Optimized spatial (3D) audio. Significantly reduced CPU usage.
Added a frame rate limiter. Cap your FPS in Settings to help reduce CPU load.
Improved photo quality & journal zoom. Photos look sharper, and you can now zoom them in the Journal.
Tripod auto-capture. A camera placed on a tripod will automatically take a photo when a ghost enters its field of view.
Claustrophobia ghost behavior. It no longer interacts with items that haven’t been touched by a player since the start of the match.
Smarter contract ghost selection. The system now prioritizes ghosts you haven’t encountered in a while.
Improved favorite-room algorithm. More consistent, context-aware selection with fewer random shifts.
Seal mechanics (sequential). Only the first intact seal now blocks hunts; the rest activate one by one as the previous is broken. Previously, every seal could block a hunt independently.
Burning the curse on a ghost’s favorite item no longer triggers an immediate hunt—it now starts after a short delay.
Oni (Level 3) footsteps. Now louder and more distinct.
Next up: the event. We’re shifting focus to it now and aim to release it within the next couple of weeks!
Added a new Seal: Morvelna.
This seal is designed to increase the chances of triggering a hunt. It can also drain hunters’ sanity to provoke an attack faster. However, using the seal to force a hunt may destroy it.
Adjusted and improved ability activation chances for the following ghosts:
Onryo (Level 1)
Kineg (Level 1)
Myling (Level 1)
Shiro (Level 1)
Shinigami (Level 1)
Dybbuk (Level 3)
Dybbuk (Level 5)
Piru (Level 1)
Amondjaku (Level 5)
Ronove (Level 1)
Kidjo (Level 1)
Palevoice (Level 3)
Onryo (Level 3)
Hiroku (Level 1)
Players can now select a ghost’s name for rituals when reviewing a case file.
Ghost case file generator updated and errors fixed.
Added a photo board in the lobby, showing examples of ghost death circumstances.
Added a memory trainer in the lobby to help players remember favorite item descriptions.
Protection Seal now has different success chances depending on charges (75% / 65% / 45%). The seal becomes dimmer as charges are consumed.
Bug Fixes:
Ghost names were only visible to the host.
Ghost names were listed without randomness.
Favorite item during curse removal now avoids invalid locations.
Curse could be removed while holding it in hand.
Curse could be removed by swapping flashlight slots.
Ghost photos updated with more variety.
Oni now removes one item from the seal when its hidden ability triggers.
Added candle animation for Fire Phobia.
Order detail display improved.
Reward board now shows the latest order first.
Fixed ghost age not matching its model.
Phobia descriptions expanded, with key conditions highlighted in red.
Fixed the quest “Make the ghost blow out a candle” not working with Fire Phobia.
Claustrophobia now also works on regular household items if placed in the center.
Spray can charges increased to 4.
"But what if he is not alone? What if we banished the wrong one... And the one who nurtures hatred in his heart is still there, huh?"
Well then, greetings, hunters. I won’t introduce myself — I am the one who coordinates the actions of the headquarters, squads, and even lone operatives.
The matter is important, so let’s get straight to the point.
Don’t bother looking for a passport — it’s not there.
With the "Document Search" content enabled, you will now receive a stack of case files on people who once died in this building.
Your task is to find, among them, the one who truly poses a threat.
Find out how he died...
You will now be able to learn how the entity lost its life.
To do this, a new Seal has been added to your arsenal — it allows you to visualize the ghost.
From there, it’s up to you to recognize the signs and determine in what form death came to this person.
Understand what he feared...
Everyone fears something — and even in death, that fear clings to its owner.
Your journal contains descriptions of every phobia. Study them all and, following our specialists’ guidelines, determine what the dangerous entity so desperately fears.
We’ve added a new mechanic that allows you to drag certain objects in the rooms.
This will help you identify some phobias (and, of course, just for fun).
When you hover over an item, a distinct icon will appear.
Remember: your hands must be empty.
-Additionally, the case file will include a description of the ghost’s favorite possession (if the corresponding content is enabled).
- You will first receive a general description of the item category, and then — 8 minutes later — a description of the specific item.
Note: These descriptions are intentionally broad. Read them carefully before drawing conclusions.
Potential favorite items are now cursed.
You won’t be able to take them out of the house or photograph them until you break the curse.
Here’s a short course from yours truly on how to act in such situations:
Study the case file and determine the item’s category.
Wait eight minutes to receive the exact description of the item (there are plenty of files to keep you busy meanwhile).
Locate the favorite item based on the description.
Break the curse binding the item using the UV flashlight.
Remember: this is always a risk. The moment you shine the light, the Hunt phase will begin.
Burn away the curse gradually, surviving the dangerous periods. The ghost will head directly to the spot where the curse is being burned.
Make sure you’ve chosen the right item — photos or activity can help confirm it.
Finally, burn the favorite item.
Meet “Hiroku” — an entity that can turn your life into hell.
In the desolate corridors of abandoned buildings, you can hear the sinister scraping of claws, and the sounds around it twist unnaturally — as if turned inside out.
Fear not just the chilling terror of its presence, but the moment you become bound by it
Gate A, Gate B, and Gate C — multiple entrances to what was once a vast complex of industrial zones.
These buildings were abandoned long before it all began, but even when they were "alive," this place claimed souls: accidental deaths at work, and later — a silent refuge where no one would hear the screams.
All of this has shaped a sinister aura around the area. And what else, if not that, would draw unwanted attention from the other side?
After the rework, District has been split into three smaller maps.
Whether that’s for better or worse — that’s for you to decide!
The reward screen after completing a contract has been reworked, and now provides more detailed information.
In addition to the ghost type, you will now see its name, level, and the contract duration.
Reward details have also been expanded: earnings from photos, objectives, and additional content are now displayed separately.
And there’s also some extra information included.
Fixed a bug where Doppler and Pishachi did not create their clones on the corresponding levels.
Fixed a potential crash caused by the curtain in the lobby.
Fixed a synchronization bug with favorite items where the host could see the item but the client could not.
Fixed the ability of Pyru at level one.
Greenwood St.: Removed the ability to climb onto the beam near the stairs.
Fixed a bug where the path to the portal could lead through a wall on the Diner map.
Astaroth’s Seal now has a chance to trigger (50%).
The Ouija Board now has a chance to spawn on the map (100%, 55%, 45%, 35% depending on difficulty level).
Hello hunters!!!
As always, things didn’t go exactly as planned... BUT (and it’s a big “but”) — we’re not leaving you without content, that’s for sure!
So, what’s going on?
Let’s start with the technical side:
A Networking Revolution (with a hint of pain)
We had to completely rewrite the game's networking code. Yes, it was tough — feel free to send your sympathies to our programmer.
But it was worth it: we've moved from Photon to Mirror, now using Steam P2P.
Instant Connection via Steam Invite
The first — and probably most delightful — new feature for you is instant connection to friends through Steam.
No more copying lobby codes or waiting for your friend to figure out where to paste them.
Just click “Invite Friend” — and they’re in your lobby!
But if someone’s not on your friends list — no worries!
The lobby code system is still here. Just share the code and jump into the game — no need to add each other as friends.
Simple and convenient.
Another big advantage — Steam now automatically picks the best connection route between players.
No more manual server selection — it’s all handled for you.
Network Traffic Optimization
During the code rewrite, we got rid of excessive network calls that used to overload the connection, and completely reworked the object synchronization system — it’s now smoother and more stable.
We also improved physical synchronization — for example, tools and items now fall more realistically on the client side, with no more teleporting or jittering.
Network load has been significantly reduced in scenes with lots of objects.
All these improvements have significantly increased the stability and responsiveness of the game’s networking.
The moment has finally come — you can now customize your character not just visually.
The perk system introduced in this update will help you deal even more effectively with the threat looming over the world.
And what exactly is that threat?
We’ll only show you the classes here — what they do, you’ll have to find out for yourself.
You are a legend among all things supernatural.Your skills are nothing short of enviable.
Not even the smallest objects can escape your gaze, and your footsteps are silent — even to a directional microphone.
You’ve dedicated your life to studying electronics — and it has paid off. You also excel at avoiding danger with ease.
A pocket, another pocket... You always know exactly where to put everything. And your frugality is something your teammates truly admire.
The “Museum” location has been with us for quite some time, witnessing many events — including the Halloween 2023 event. Now, it has undergone a full rework and looks completely refreshed.
Familiar features are still recognizable, but now they’re more detailed and atmospheric… or at least we think so.
Once home to a popular exhibition that drew crowds of visitors, things are very different now: Dust has replaced the people, the howling wind has replaced the bustling crowd, and something sinister has taken the place of security — something that won’t let you freely wander its domain. time, witnessing many events — including the Halloween 2023 event. Now, it has undergone a full rework
Welcome... back.
We’ve made the bonus content a bit more challenging and added a new twist — now you’ll need to pay your respects to a good portion of a soul. No more running around the house hoping to stumble upon a signal — now it’s always visible. And not just one!
Here’s a step-by-step guide:
All that’s left is to repeat the previous steps a few more times — and the long-awaited room will open before you, where you can finally perform the ritual to honor the part of the soul.
"And this… is Viy.."
According to the gathered data, this entity is shrouded in a terrifying, almost tangible darkness. Its presence immediately alters the environment: crystalline structures blacken, as if poisoned by its very aura.
Level 1 – When interacting with salt, causes it to darken, though no visible traces are left behind.
Level 3 – On laser projection, shows no signs of movement — he simply stands motionless for a period of time, then vanishes.
But the most terrifying part — he can distort gravity.
Everything around him sinks into a thick, oppressive mire: air, objects, even thoughts grow heavy.
He can increase pressure to unbearable levels.
Level 5 – At the start of a hunt, he can affect the victim in such a way that they temporarily lose the ability to stand, forced to crawl for a limited time.
- When he materialized, I felt a crushing weight — like I was wearing two hundred bulletproof vests. One more second, and my lungs would've burst.
I never want to face him again. Ever.
One of the previous issues was the save system being located in the game’s installation folder. In some cases, this caused errors due to the application lacking access to that directory. Additionally, there were complications with multi-user saves: when multiple users shared the same computer, their progress could be overwritten, leading to inconvenience.
In the latest version, we’ve addressed these problems: the save system has been moved to a system directory, and full multi-account support has been implemented. problems.
