Hello Gerryheads and patriots! Update 1.2 is now out, and has brought UI improvements and a lot more elections in Sandbox Mode for all 48 states. Each now has Presidential, Senatorial, and Gubernatorial elections from 1976 to 2000.
I talked more about specific changes in the beta post:
26% of the people who launched the game recently opted into the beta branch, thanks for trying out the update!!
Hello Gerryheads and Patriots! Update 1.2 has brought a few changes to the UI, more elections for Sandbox Mode, and other things!
But before I get into the details, this update will initially only be available by right clicking Gerrymap in your Steam library, pressing "Properties...", and going to the Betas section, and opt into the beta.
Why? I'd like to use the 250 Gerrymap players to make sure I didn't break anything before rolling out the update. And there should always be a fallback. In the future, you will be able to select 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.
Anyway the details
North Carolina is slightly easier
Precincts have outlines when zoomed in
1976-2000 Gubernatorial, Senatorial, and Presidential elections for all states
The FINISH MAP popup for checking your progress is now better
The color palettes have been changed for all categories. In general dark colors are brighter
Volume preferences get saved
There is now a button to exit the game (I hope that wasn't the thing keeping people playing...)
Other minor UI changes
I just remembered I was supposed to make the menu come up when you press ESC. Fuck my life.

Hello Gerryheads and patriots!
I have been working on 1.1, it contains a few major things (along with minor changes): Save/Load, a Sandbox Mode with ALL 42 US states, and the addition of Mississippi, Alabama, and Virginia to the "Story Mode."
Self-explanatory.
You have access to most of the states with their presidential election results for 1976-1992. There's no objectives or anything; just play around with it.
Small issues exist in some of the 42 states that are in Sandbox Mode. As pictured, Arizona does not have any data for La Paz county for presidential elections in 1980 and 1976. This is because the county was formed in 1983, so their votes are all in Yuma, directly below it.
These states are now in the "Story Mode."
I didn't add Virginia initially because I felt it was too Northern, but that's silly so I added it. And I thought that since Mississippi and Alabama had Republican governors, which in those states actually have power over the redistricting process (unlike in North Carolina), they shouldn't be included. But Democrats had complete control of redistricting, so I added them as well.
Small Changes coming in 1.1
You can zoom into big states like Texas all the way.
There's a little settings menu with the ability to go into windowed mode, or change volume.
Hovering has been made darker.
The labels for each district (e.g., 6, 7, 9, 10, 21) now appear a bit easier for little urban districts, they didn't as easily before because of rounding errors with the areas of small tracts.
Other things that I have forgotten about at this moment.
The update should be out in maybe 3-5 days. I already have all these features in place, I just want to improve performance when opening states. I also need to play through the whole game again once I have the build ready.
After 1.1, my immediate concern is adding the 8 other states to Sandbox Mode, then adding other statewide elections from the period, allowing people to change the amount of districts, with presets for state legislatures. Then the priority will be usability.
1.2, on the other hand, will be an expansion of more mechanically interesting content, another "Story Mode" type deal, probably one where you play as the Republicans in 2010.
Thank you for the positive reviews, and to everyone that has purchased. I would ask that if you play the game you continue to relay your feedback somehow! I read all of it though I don't respond (I suppose I will respond by identifying and implementing solutions to issues that people bring up).
The demo contains Arkansas and Louisiana. Feel free to play it if Gerrymap piques your interest!
Florida can now be completed. If anyone got there and was unable to progress to Texas and finish the game, sorry!
