Full Steam announcements and update articles for this title.
Hey!
I'm really happy to announce that GeckoShop 1 is currently being fully rewritten from scratch.
This time it's being rebuilt in C#, making the game much more performant, less prone to bugs, and easier to create mods for.
We've been able to restore most of the files and are already deep into development.
Side note: I'm not talking about the sequel, this will be an actual remake of the first GeckoShop. Both are separate projects, and both are now in development. The remake will not be a separate game, but will instead be released as a major update.
This will allow us to continue supporting the game and release new updates and content.
All known bugs from previous versions will be finally fixed, no more floors getting grabbed!
Existing savefiles should be compatible with the new version, this is our goal.
Owners of GeckoShop will still receive their Discount on the sequel through a "Complete-the-set Bundle".
We've seen the frustration expressed by many players in the reviews and Steam community discussions, and I understand how things may have looked from the outside.
We always had the best intentions for the community, and reading comments like those really hurts both us and GeckoShop's reputation going forward.
I was always very active on Discord, but from now on I will also be posting regular updates on Steam to keep y'all informed about how development is progressing.
A first playtest of the new version should be ready soon.
Thanks for sticking around!

Hey everyone!
We're so excited to finally share with you what we've been working on the last few months. The Demo is finally out, and can be played by everyone for free. You can even play with your friends!Geckoshop started as a small game for me to learn making and publishing games. And so i did! I learned a ton of cool stuff, and connected with many people that share the same interests.
I launched the game and i was excited, and also not prepared for how many people would join in. The discord was flooded after the demo went live, and suddently there was a real community around my little game.
Everything went really well, but the game also had problems. I spent more time fixing bugs than making the game, and over time it became clear that the foundation of the first GeckoShop was just not built well enough to support it long-term.
So i decided to start fresh, instead of trying to glue it together forever.
Built from the ground up, we made a sequel. We used this opportunity to add everything players asked for.
For example, something many players wanted is the ability to merge two geckos to combine their looks, since this would open the door to so many new possibilities, this is now possible and one of the main features of the sequel.
Many also didn't liked how the automation worked in the first game, it was missing control.
So i went for another approach, and instead of relying on employees, you can now build entire factories, with all the freedom you could ask for.
This is only a fracture of what changed and what's new. Here's a list we already posted in the GeckoShop 2 Steam Announcement:
New Inventory System, instead of only being able to hold one item at a time
Each box has now a set of cosmetics, allowing for way more variation.
Your collections are now cosmetics-based, some cosmetics and colors have lower chances.
This also allows merging cosmetics, by breeding a male and a female gecko.
GeckoShop 2 focuses a lot on automation, and factory building, but as an additional layer to the shopkeeping, you won't miss anything from the first game.
Automation is kept simple but deep, it has all a factory game needs, be ready to get creative.
Additionally to your shop, you now have a Lab, a Garden and your own Home where you can keep your favorite geckos.
You can now grow crops in your garden, to feed geckos and make them more valuable.
This time, the backbone of the game is very stable and modular, allowing for easy updating and the addition of new content for the future.

We optimized the game to the nail, so don't be afraid to keep hundreds if not thousands of geckos.
The feedback from playtesters was really positive, which makes us super excited to now finally show it to everyone.
Be aware, the game is still in a Beta phase, especially the Multiplayer Mode. If you encounter any issues, please let us know in the Discord, and we will reply and hotfix it immediately. We are working daily to make GeckoShop 2 the game you deserved. Also: Owners of the first Geckoshop will receive a generous discount on Geckoshop 2. Me and the community looked through the options for how to handle things fairly, and this felt like the best way to do it.
You can try the demo now, and if you want to support the game, wishlisting it helps a lot!

The Collection App also got expanded, now showing all 8 legendary geckos you can collect through various tasks.
I will post clues on how to obtain all legendary geckos form time to time on Steam and Discord, so stay tuned ;)

And also, i've made the game 33% cheaper for the whole Early access!
