Game Compressor v1.0.0 - Full Release
Game Compressor is officially out of Early Access! v1.0.0 is our biggest update yet: a brand-new look, compression that finishes media-heavy games in roughly half the time (same savings), 10 new features, a dozen fixes and an honesty pass over every setting - in 30 languages. Nearly everything in it comes straight from your reviews, discussions and comments. Keep them coming; they work.
New look
New logo and visual identity - a glossy green cube compressed by four steel arrows. New app icon, tray icon, and the whole interface (dark and light) recolored from the logo's palette.
New features you asked for
Fast compression (default ON) - files that are already compressed (videos, game audio, images, archives, always-compressed game containers) are skipped entirely instead of wasting CPU for zero gain. Media can be 40-70% of a big game, so compression finishes in roughly half the time with the same savings. Formats that vary per game (like Unreal .pak) are deliberately still compressed - that's where the big wins live. Toggle in Settings > Performance.
DirectStorage warning - games shipping dstorage.dll are detected and the detail panel warns you before you compress (stutters / longer loads possible). Nothing is blocked - you decide - and auto-compress skips these games.
Compress ANY folder - "Add Folder" no longer requires an executable inside; any folder becomes a compressible custom entry.
Explorer right-click integration - enable "Compress with Game Compressor" in Settings and compress any folder straight from Windows Explorer. If the app is already running, the request goes to the open window.
Remove ANY library - including Steam ones - files untouched, fully undoable from the new Settings > Exclusions section (which also restores removed games and excludes folder paths).
Add a game by its .exe - pick the right executable yourself for non-Steam games; it defines the name and icon.
Rename games and change their icons from the right-click menu - both survive rescans.
Sleep or shut down when the queue finishes - the old shutdown-only toggle is now a three-way choice.
Circular savings gauge in the detail panel, plus an honest "Scope & limits" docs section.
All of it translated into 30 languages.
Fixes from your reports
App exit hardened (again) - two of you reported the app still running after closing the window. The close path is unified, Steam's native shutdown now has a timeout so it can never hang the exit, the process is force-terminated as a final safety net, and a shutdown watchdog now kills the entire process tree if closing ever takes more than a few seconds. When you close it, it closes. Period.
Only one copy runs - launching the app while it's already open brings the existing window to the front instead of starting a second copy.
Dashboard no longer lags with large libraries - the list now creates only visible rows (1000+ games used to freeze the mouse).
System usage tells the truth - CPU is now system-wide (it used to show ~0% while compact.exe did the real work) and the disk bar says which drive it measures.
You can SEE what the queue does - status text + live progress right in the game list, a scrollable queue, and an "added to queue" confirmation in Updates.
Library Folders shows all libraries (it silently capped at 8) and the platform filter now lists every supported launcher - Steam, Epic, GOG, EA App, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, Xbox, Rockstar, Riot and Amazon, plus Local and Custom.
Auto-compress now only touches NEW games - enabling it used to queue your entire uncompressed library ("I asked for one game and woke up to everything compressed"). It now only queues games that appear after you enable it, announces each one in the Activity feed, and never touches what you already have.
No more duplicate entries - library roots (steamapps, Battle.net, custom folders like an "Itch" library) are no longer listed as games alongside the games inside them, and a trailing-slash registry quirk that duplicated Ubisoft games with a blank icon is fixed.
Compression no longer freezes the PC - compact.exe runs at below-normal priority (the "Run at low priority" setting is now actually wired up), so 20+ GB games compress without stuttering the system.
Activity feed no longer loses live events - runtime entries (auto-queued, just-completed, update checks) could sink below older items; sorting now uses the real event timestamp.
Settings honesty pass - the auto-compress toggle was mislabeled "Scan on startup" (the real reason games got compressed "without asking" - it is now labeled correctly), settings that were never wired to anything were removed, and "Show notifications" is now a real master switch.
Polish - labels that don't fit their column now gently slide so the full text is readable, dark-themed right-click menu (it used to pop up as a stock white Windows menu), dialogs grow to fit long messages, queue controls wrap on narrow windows, long texts trim with ellipsis instead of overflowing.
What's next
Our next application, Game Frame, arrives in about a month. Stay tuned! Thank you for the honest reviews and reports - 1.0 exists because of you.
