This might come as a surprise to some. Why did we take time to focus on something as basic as the tutorial? Well, here is the answer: Many of you amazing and smart Gambo-fans are also chess players ♟️, which makes sense! After all, Gambonanza uses chess elements and remixes them in a way to introduce something fresh and unique.
A formula proven by you ever since we first ran a public playtest. Turns out, some players left negative feedback after discovering that our game is not a hardcore Stockfish-like chess simulator. 😭 It really isn't! Gambo likes to be a bit crazy, chaotic, creative, and in general doesn't take itself too seriously.
That's why the tutorial now better explains that Gambonanza is NOT chess and emphasizes things such as Gambit synergy and experimentation instead. 💥
So here is our humble plea: if you played the game for a bit already, 👉️ Take a minute or two to leave a Steam review
Share what you think or like about Gambonanza with others! Every bit helps, every review helps us learn more about your experience as well as reach more players. And many new friends are gonna join us soon!
If you already left a review - thank you, you are a champ!
PS: Small sneak peek for update 1.4.0 - You'll finally be able to skip boss cinematics and more enemy formations will be added. Stay tuned! 🙌

And if you enjoy roguelike games, check out the fantastic demo of Wanderburg as well!Aloha everyone!
First of all, I just want to say a huge thank you for all the feedback you’ve been sharing on Gambonanza.
It’s honestly amazing, and it helps a lot more than you might think. You’re really opening my eyes on many things, so I wanted to give you some context on what I’ve learned thanks to you 👀
Several Gambits like Pope, Anarchist, or Mini-Rook currently say things like: “Your PAWNS are now considered as ROOKS.”
The original intention was to let Pawns trigger Rook Gambits, opening new combo chains and gameplay possibilities.
However, through your feedback, it became clear that this wording can easily be interpreted as movement changes (Pawns moving like Rooks, or Rooks moving like Pawns), which is… totally understandable. That one’s on me 😅
So I’m reworking this:
👉 “CONSIDERED AS” will now be a proper keyword, 👉 with a dedicated popup explaining exactly how it works in-game.
Some of you pointed out that certain combos feel extremely strong and could make the game too easy (I’m looking at you Thunder’s Gambit + Brave Knight’s Gambit).
That said, this is actually very close to the core vision of Gambonanza.
I want the game to be a playground for wild combos, goofy synergies, and experimentation, where breaking the game is part of the fun if you manage to pull it off.
At the same time, I’ve also seen players struggle and not manage to win a run at all, and Gambonanza is for them too!
For a bit more context:
👉 In the playtest, you were playing on PAWN difficulty, the easiest one.
In the full game:
Beating PAWN unlocks ROOK mode (higher prices, WAIT costs more, less room in the Stock, etc.)
Then KNIGHT, where the opponent plays first, Queens are removed from the shop, tiles can only be used once per run, and more…
All the way up to KING mode, which is meant to be the big spicy challenge (for reference: I haven’t beaten it myself yet 😬).
Not everyone is looking for hardcore difficulty though, and I really want to leave space for players who just enjoy experimenting and going full combo-wizard.
So the core of the game will stay roughly the same, with a few adjustments here and there (yes, Queen Ant’s Gambit, I’m looking at you 👀).
I’m currently reading all your bug reports, especially ones reported on our Discord in #bugs, and feedback in #feedback, and also carefully going through the Google Form you took the time to fill in, thank you so much for that 💛
I’m moving a bit slowly, but please know that I read everything!
Your reports are super relevant and are directly helping me make the game better.
Sorry again for the number of bugs in the playtest, I’m squashing them one by one thanks to you, so really… thank you for being part of this ❤️
Once again, thank you all so much for taking the time to play the playtest, report bugs, share your thoughts, and discuss your experiences.
Seeing you engage with the game like this is honestly incredibly motivating 💛
I really hope you’re as excited as I am about what’s coming next for Gambonanza.
Your feedback is actively shaping the game, and having you along for the ride makes this whole adventure even better!
Thanks again for being here, for caring, and for helping me make Gambonanza a better (and weirder) game!
- Blukulélé

Any insights that you share will be tremendously helpful in the next step, which is... A free demo taking part in the Steam Next Fest in late February! ❄️
That's right, very soon, at the end of the next month, we will take Gambonanza to even a broader audience on Steam thanks to the Next Fest, a recurring celebration of upcoming games and their demo versions.
It seems like the opportunities to experience the game are multiplying as we speak, because...
We are very happy to announce that along with the PC version, we will be simultaneously introducing Gambonanza to mobile devices as well! 📱
Our mobile platform expert put it like this: "Gambonanza is a Steam game screaming for a mobile port; its core loop hooks players instantly with the perfect balance of speed and depth".
Bringing the game to new platforms would not be possible without our new friends who join the "team Gambonanza" for this very purpose:
Sidekick Publishing now enters the co-publishing partnership with Stray Fawn, a cooperation proven before when the two worked together to publish Terrascape in 2024. ❤️
ATEO will handle the mobile ports with technical prowess that was already validated by their work on Dungeon Clawler with Stray Fawn. 💜
News so exciting that they could make you scream!
Freshly strengthened and empowered, we encourage you once again to 👉️ try Gambonanza playtest on Steam (and add the game to your wishlist)! 👈️

Aloha! 💙
We would like to share a few words regarding the Gambonanza playtest that ended last week, as well as our plans for the release.
We are extremely grateful for the amazing help we received throughout the playtest! 🙇
Here are some crazy numbers we reached together:
10,000 players on Steam
400 daily active players on Steam
1,150 hours watched on Twitch
450 new members on Discord
30+ bugs fixed 🔧
Thank you all so much for taking part in this adventure!
We were happily surprised by the overwhelmingly large amount of positive feedback we received! It was an immense pleasure to read about your experiences and ideas. ❤️
The goal now is to address your findings and improve the game further. There are plenty of surprises to add, new gambits, new tiles, challenges, achievements, bosses, and much more! This does unfortunately mean that the release will be pushed back a few months.
As the developer, we are certain this is the best choice for both Gambonanza and you, the players! And the end result will be even more fun and polished.
Thank you for your patience and understanding - we will make sure to keep you up to date with the progress! There is no specific date in mind yet. The best way to be the first to know when we share something new?

Make a bold capture and add Gambonanza to your Steam wishlist now 💯
Aloha everyone!
New patch is up and brings a loooot of small (and some big) bug fixes, plus a few changes following your feedback 💛
Let's dive into it 👇
Fixed: We could bypass Polgeisha with the Pause Menu
Fixed: Valhalla gave the same 2 pieces if 2 different pieces fell
Fixed: Valkyrie Gambit activated without letting you place the Queen
Fixed: Elite pieces didn't lose protection if two pieces fell at the same time
Fixed: Lifeline Gambit didn’t trigger when selling a piece
Fixed: Lavender Gambit spawned the capturing piece instead of the captured one
Fixed: Castling Gambit only triggered after moving a rook instead of any piece
Fixed: Spamming left click allowed illegal moves
Fixed : Continuing a saved game resets Limited Edition Gambit's sell value
Fixed : Promotion with Super Hero Cap's Cap Gambit not displaying promotion buttons
Reworked: Entire piece detection logic to avoid the tutorial bug some of you encountered.
I couldn't reproduce it after this, so I assume it's fixed — but I’m still keeping an eye on it!
Fixed: Dragon Egg description in the shop
Fixed: Wrong preview of some pieces in certain situations
Fixed: Switching multiple tiles didn’t update the visuals correctly
Fixed: Judith Polgeisha's fans were overlapping
Fixed: CRT filter auto-enabled after restart
Fixed: Game Over stats screen showed incorrect values
Fixed: Threat (pat) detection with knight pieces was inaccurate
Fixed: Shop overlap with pieces sell value
Typos fixed in:
Recruiter Hat description
Aphrodite description
White Crown description
Valhalla description
Fixed: Seraphin's Gambit caused weird interactions (null reference errors)
Fixed: Tiles that could crumble... crumbled forever 💀
The game now saves each of your moves instantly during play!
Once a move is played… it’s played for good 😈
Say goodbye to soft resets 👋
The Morphing Gambit and Chosen One Gambit have been temporarily removed.
They caused too many issues, I want to take the time to refactor them properly!
The "!" threat effect now triggers right from turn 1
Add more info on Gambits on Mouse Over.
This is the last update for this playtest, unless:
I find a fix for the Mac capture issue affecting some players
Or someone finds a blocking bug that makes the game unplayable
Thank you all so much for sharing your ideas, your frustrations, and your unique ways to play!
It helped me see that some Gambits are very (too?) strong. I love how they’re being used, and I won’t nerf them to the ground.
Instead, I’m planning to tweak them, keep their soul and fun gameplay, but add a little twist I’m keeping secret for now 😏
I’m thinking about:
Apocalypse Gambit
Valhalla Gambit
Chicken Gambit
Other Gambits that are on my radar but that will get a different treatment:
Lemmong’s Gambit
Warlock’s Gambit
Weird Pot’s Gambit
Bribe’s Gambit
White Crown’s Gambit
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE how those Gambits works! I just want to make the game more fun and balanced by tweaking them without changing their core mechanic!
And lastly, the Gambler Gambit felt a bit too powerful… I’ve moved it from Epic to Legendary. Let’s see how it goes!
⚠️ Important note:
After the update, some in-progress runs might be corrupted due to changes in the save system…
Sorry about that🙏
Thanks again for playing and being part of this adventure.
You’re helping shape the game more than you think 💛
Let me know if something breaks!
Otherwise, enjoy the new patch 😄
