Full Steam announcements and update articles for this title.
Hi everybody,
A new update is now available for Full Metal Sergeant 2!
Here are the main changes:
The recruit trait icon is now displayed next to every recruit name in the Custom Names Editor, making it much easier to see each recruit's special trait at a glance. Please note that this change is not backwards compatible with existing custom name sets.
I've also added a preview image for Custom Name Sets in the Steam Workshop, making them easier to identify while browsing.
Decorated soldiers now receive a +5 bonus to all stats when they are promoted, making their progression much more rewarding and giving them a stronger long-term role in your squad.
As always, thank you for all the feedback and support.
Carlo.
You can finally play with recruits named after famous characters, movie heroes, or even your neighbors.
The editor is simple to use, it lets you fully customize every recruit name and share your sets on Steam Workshop (you can also keep them private if you prefer).
First, open the editor from the Options menu.
Then click the button to create a new name set.
On the next screen, you must give a title (required for Steam).
Then replace the default names with any you like.
Before saving, you can choose whether to publish the names on Steam Workshop as private, public, or visible only to you and your friends.
Once everything is ready, simply press "Save & Upload". A name pack will be created and uploaded to Steam Workshop.
When you return to the list screen, you must manually activate the specific set you want to use in-game (it will not activate automatically).
If you do not want to create your own name set, you can also browse the Steam Workshop and use one of the public sets created by the community.
The custom naes are only available when you start a new game.
It is currently not possible to add an image, but I am working on it.
Some characters are not allowed because they are not supported by the game's font.
Gamepad support in the editor has not been implemented yet.
Added the pause menu (ESC) during combat/training mission. It can be possible now to go back to the main menu.
Replace the button-press-timer with a progress bar instead of numbers (Buttons: delete save, fire assistant and fire decorated)
Fixed an issue where the flag could change after closing the skill tree.
Fixed french localization typos
Hi Sergeants!
I’ve added the new “Training Mission” update to Full Metal Sergeant 2.
Starting from Week 7 (from Season 2 onward), recruits will be able to participate in special training combat mission on a simulated battlefield filled with static dummies.
During this combat session, recruits can improve their stats depending on the actions they perform. For example, shooting targets can grant +1 Shooting, while other actions may improve different abilities.
Be careful though: Training Mission also generate Stress, so pushing your recruits too hard may have consequences.
...don't worry about the Postman, he has been moved to week 11th ːsteamhappyː
Small German localization issue.
See you on the battlefield!
Carlo.
Alright! it’s time for another round of improvements after gathering more feedback.
It is now possible to perform melee stab attacks on enemies positioned above or below.
Engineers have been improved: they are now immune to barbed wire. Previously, they had to spend a turn cutting through it.
To improve balance between classes, high-damage units have been nerfed by making them act slightly later in combat. Melee classes, on the other hand, now act slightly earlier. I will continue to check over the next few days to see if further adjustments are needed.
Reduced Assaulter and Paratrooper Initiative divider from 25 to 20. They now act quicker
Increased Sniper, Mortarman and Machine Gunner Initiative divider from 25 to 30. They now act slower
Even though playtests before release suggested otherwise, some players have reported that the game feels too easy. However, to avoid ruining the experience for the majority of the players, I’ve decided to make Hardcore mode more difficult instead. This way, who is looking for a greater challenge can have it, without affecting the overall difficulty for everyone else.
Increased enemies difficulty after the 4th sector of the map
Tanks are now immune to regular weapons and can only be destroyed by Anti-Tank class
Fixed broken characters in the French localization
Updated some german strings
MODs (classes) toolip position in the billboard
Correct facing character while moving in the combat map
Hi,
I want to thank everyone who has played my game so far. Your support and feedback mean a lot, and they are helping me shape the experience week by week.
The first training week for Full Metal Sergeant 2 is complete, and I’ve been closely watching how players interact with the systems. Based on your feedback and the data I’ve gathered, I’ve made several improvements focused mainly on training flow and class balance.
Added a new trait called “Competitive” for recruits, starting from Season 6 onward. This trait reflects a strong desire to outperform others, and it can be removed by having the recruit participate in competitions. It adds a bit more personality and progression strategy to your squad.
Added new animations for the sergeant during training sessions. It’s a small detail, but it helps bring more life to the camp and makes the training phase more bold.
Added a new game guide pinned in the Steam Discussions that explains how to unlock special bonuses. This should make the system clearer and help you plan your recruits’ progression more effectively. https://steamcommunity.com/app/3130170/discussions/0/797841122761338260/
One of the key changes is related to the M.O.D. system. I’ve reduced the requirements for assigning the Assaulter and Paratrooper classes, making them more accessible earlier in the progression. On top of that, the Agility divider for these classes has been lowered from 25 to 20. This means they can now gain more movement points in combat, making them significantly more dynamic and useful on the battlefield. The goal here is to make these classes feel more rewarding and viable without forcing excessive grinding.
Thanks for playing.
Carlo
I’ve been working on this game for a long time, and I’m really happy to finally put it in your hands. This sequel is not just more content, it’s a complete evolution of the core systems.
Full Metal Sergeant 2 introduces a completely new turn-based tactical combat system. Unlike traditional systems, there is no hit chance. Every shot lands. This changes everything.
The key to survival is positioning. Getting into cover as fast as possible is often the difference between life and death.
You can approach this in different ways:
Train Agility and Discipline to secure cover positions before the enemy
Or invest in Strength to increase HP and endure even when exposed
On top of that, you can find consumables directly on the battlefield, giving you temporary boosts that can turn the tide of a fight.
The goal was to create a system that rewards planning and adaptation rather than luck.
Field stats are still there: Strength, Agility, Shooting, Intelligence, Melee, Discipline
But now they directly influence a new layer: combat stats. Each class converts field stats into combat stats using its own scaling. For example: Infantry HP = 2 + Strength / 20
This means that classes are no longer just roles, but fundamentally change how your recruits perform in combat. Some classes are more efficient because they use smaller divisors, resulting in stronger combat stats.
This system opens up a lot more depth when building your squad.
My friend Alex, the artist behind the game, did an incredible job creating detailed animations despite the very limited pixel count.
The increased visual clarity doesn’t just look better, it also makes the game more readable. You can now immediately tell if a recruit is tired or stressed just by looking at them during the assembly phase.
Recruits now have actual faces, which makes everything feel more personal and engaging.
So a huge thank you to Alex for bringing all of this to life.
And me?
Well… I added the storms. With lightning and thunder ;)
Key events and objectives are placed in fixed locations, which gives exploration a much stronger purpose and allows you to truly learn and master each map over time.
Be careful with your supplies. If you run out, your combat stats will suffer heavy penalties, and that can quickly turn a manageable mission into a disaster.
New trainings and services have been added, including activities like lawn mowing. You now also need to choose a camp specialization, adding another layer of strategy when preparing your final platoon before heading into a mission.
Convincing them to join your ranks is no longer a single choice, you’ll need to navigate through a sequence of decisions to earn their trust.
I’ll leave the rest for you to discover...
Thanks to everyone who supported the project along the way. It really means a lot.
See you in the field.
Carlo.
My daughter releasing the game :D
I’m happy to finally announce that Full Metal Sergeant 2 will release on April 13 on Steam.
Over the past months, I’ve been working hard to expand and improve every aspect of the original game. This sequel is deeper, more tactical, and offers many new features compared to the first Full Metal Sergeant.
I completely redesigned the combat system. Battles now require careful positioning, planning, and smart decision-making.
I added more variety and new situations at the camp gate. The choices you make will have a bigger impact on your run.
You’ll have access to a larger pool of recruits, giving you more options to build your squad.
Recruits now have two layers of stats: camp stats and combat stats. Your training in the camp directly influences performance in battle, creating a stronger connection between management and combat.
I upgraded the visuals with more detailed and refined pixel art, making everything clearer and more immersive.
The missions now take place on larger maps, with more encounters and more stuff to do.
I added three new ways to train your recruits, giving you more strategic choices during camp management. Also three new Cadences have been written for the game.
Thank you for all the support so far. I can’t wait for you to try Full Metal Sergeant 2 on April 13.
Carlo.
I recently brought Full Metal Sergeant 2 to the Steam Fest, and it was a really useful experience. It gave me a lot of helpful feedback. I learned a lot about what works, what could be improved, and what players enjoy the most. Every comment and suggestion helped me understand what matters to players and what can make the game better. I really appreciate everyone who took the time to play and share their thoughts.
Thanks to this feedback, I can now share the release window for Full Metal Sergeant 2. The game will be available between March 30 and April 20. I look forward to you trying the full game, managing your squad, and seeing how your choices affect the missions.
Stay tuned here on Steam for news from the game.
Carlo.
Hi everybody,
I'm just here to announce that Full Metal Sergeant 2 will be part of the Steam Next Fest starting February 23.
The next step after the festival will be the full release, which is planned for the next few months. Your feedback during the event will help me refine these final steps.
Thank you for your support. Carlo
Hey, sergeants
I’m happy to share that Full Metal Sergeant 2 is part of this year’s TurnBasedCarnival Fest on Steam. It’s a great opportunity to discover a variety of turn-based games, so if you’re a fan of the genre, I encourage you to browse the festival and check out the other titles on offer, there’s some really interesting work there.
On my end, I’ve been focusing on improving the game’s accessibility by adding gamepad support. It’s still a work in progress, but I wanted to let you know it’s coming together. Playing with a controller should make the experience more flexible, especially for those who prefer it.
And if you’re curious about my other project, Last Card Dungeon, it’s still around for anyone who enjoys card-based strategy with a twist.
Thanks for following along, and I hope you find something you like at the festival.
Carlo.
