Full Steam announcements and update articles for this title.
Welp, I think I've squashed 98% of the predictable bugs (famous last words). For that reason, I really like this chill and unassuming patch. It allows me to take a breather and focus on what's next. There's a lot I could do, but I need to figure out what I must do. I don't have the answer to that yet.
It's been 4 months since launch, I've definitely gotten some sales, so I'm very happy about that. But I wonder what else I can do to grow this more and generate more sales before I spend more time on it.. I could expand this game forever. Truly. After all, it's how I designed it. To be my final game.
6 New items added (four of which are monster parts!)
Wish bundle type added! These can be Buffs, Starters, or unfortunately even Debuffs... be careful what you wish for!
You can now inspect items from the Character Kit window via the online Asset Manifest.
Vice had some work done in the previous patch, but I felt he still needed further improvements to his kit and default action. Give him a try and let me know what you think :)
Obtaining Knowledge or Wisdom will now appear in your Special Inventory during a run.
Show a cooldown timer on the main menu if you ever run out of Scrolls (while the shop is locked).
Show a red dot (notification) on the Wayfinder tab when you have Knowledge for studying.
Deadly Poison is now removed upon death.
Special items are now bound by player Utility unless they are classified as "unbounded". This will appear in the form of a blue tinted durability value.
Power and Magic have been capped to 10.
Fixed a bug showing incorrect values in the stats tab.
Fixed an edge case around stealing items subsequently bought giving you two copies of it.
Fixed a bug causing the Rodd the Nomad to have a flower at the start of every game.
Fixed a bug preventing item swapping in the Stash.
Fixed the Enlightened condition bubble appearing as Sinful when hovering over it.
Fixed a UI issue causing the Max Health from incorporating Deadly Poison's effect.

So the game went kinda viral... One video got over a million view! As a result, I see a lot of new faces. Hellu. Welcome to this strange corner of the internet. Where pretty legit mechanics mixes with the occult. Learn something new. Did you know what gooner means? Haha, as long as you're having fun, it's all good to me :) Let's dive into the patch notes:
Design improvements for all four characters.
4 new enemies added (Arthritis, Juice, Munch, Blasphemy).
New Utility stat which dictates the maximum item repair possible for your character. I'll tell you right now folks, the end game just got a lot harder hehe.
New Max Bank stat which enforces a maximum Coin capacity.
3 new Boons (Decoy Shroom, Grinding Stone, Quality Control). Yoyo got an Firm Eggplant too.
3 new Curses (Open Wound, Dead Weight, Deadly Poison). Also Damnation was changed!
Special item slot extension added. Now you can finally see your stash again!
Changed the Energized condition to trigger based on your stamina bars (which you can have up to 7). However, you may still have a maximum stamina value way beyond that.
Changed gift redeem limit on the shop from 3 a day to 10.
Enemy health above 99 now displays the full amount.
Enhanced the death icon and explanation box (on the green eye thing).
Second row stats now show green or red numbers if manipulated during a run.
Starter items are now Reserved (they will no longer appear through random Buff drops).
Default durability has been slightly tweaked (top image is before this patch, bottom is after). With the introduction of Utility I thought it was a good time to review these numbers. As you can see, on average Common and Rare items will be a bit stronger, while others are a bit weaker.
Rarity appearance rates have been adjusted. Some of you may have noticed Divine and Demonic items would display as Basic in the UI. This was admittedly not a UI glitch, but a data one... Long story short, these Mythic items had a much higher appearance rate than they should. In case you didn't know, unless the rarity is explicitly guaranteed, the only way for Mythic items to appear through random generation is by being Virtuous or Sinful.
Trashing an item from the Stash now works as intended (no longer should trash your duplicate).
Fixed a bug that was causing background music to overlap.
Fixed special item description for non English speakers.
Fixed a bug that was causing players' max stats to show the wrong value in the UI.
Fixed a bug around the Petal Wick Bomb hitting a validation error in some cases.
Rose's Virtuous mission (Mother's Rosary) should now trigger correctly.
Fixed a soft lock glitch around moving or trashing item when the game is cycling through your Runes when fast mode is on. That was a mouthful.
If an NPC tries to sell you an item they no longer have (cause you stole it, naughty boy), then the button will display as an X.
Removing Curses from special slots no longer should leave an empty slot upon next encounter.
Fixed a bug that was incorrectly awarding Sage in the shop Gift boxes.
Fixed the language preference detection when starting the game for the first time.
Decreased music volume in tutorial for certain scenes.
Music should no longer play at the Sun encounter when setting 0 volume in the settings. 1:00am, partner is sound asleep, gleefully enjoying your secret gaming session... "WHO KNOWS WHAT YOU MIGHT ENCOUNTER"

Alright, this update will either be really cool or really "meh" depending on your playing habits, lol. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy!
Steam Account Linking: I'll admit, this feature is pretty dope. All existing AND future Steam players will get the mobile version for free (no need to purchase premium). Additionally, you can take your Steam progress on-the-go and play cross-platform!
iOS is currently under review, but it should be approved any day now. Android is already released, so please give it a go (from the settings page as seen above) and let me know how the experience is :)
A stylish "N" (New) now appears on character portraits after completing their missions (achievements) to let players know they can select different starter gear. Additionally, a banner will appear when completing character missions on non-Steam platforms (since the Steam overlay for achievements would not trigger).
Wayfinders (Scrolls and Sage) now display a handy counter on the play screen showing how many you have left. No more switching back and forth to the shop just to check this.
Players can easily see their account name/ID on the settings page (useful for me when debugging). Tapping on this field automatically copies it to your clipboard.
More descriptive validation errors are now thrown in the case of race conditions or corrupted states.
Fixed a bug where players could not unlock items while playing offline.
Fixed a bug where Steam Deck players were unable to connect to the server.
Fixed a bug where the exit button on the main menu would sometimes disappear.
Fixed a UI bug where players would not be able to resume their online games after completing an offline one.
Fixed a UI bug that would sometimes display an empty message prompt on the main menu after tapping the top-left of the screen.
Fixed a UI bug where selecting starter items on the play screen would sometimes glitch out.
Fixed a UI bug where the wrong last-used Wayfinder would sometimes be displayed when opening the game.
Fixed a bug preventing curses from being removed.
Fixed a bug where the wrong gift box reward would appear in the shop after opening it.
Fixed a bug where the Limbo encounter could ironically enter a state of limbo (inaccessible).
Fixed an edge case around infinite food pet items and "eating" them.
Fixed an edge case around NPCs still trying to sell stolen items.
Fixed a bug regarding redrawn card rotation.
Several localization fixes for missing or broken keywords across all supported languages.
Greetings. I have the Android build up and ready for testing! Except, I need to enlist 8 more of you to help me get past the Google Play threshold requirement. Until I reach enough signed up testers, they won't let me release the app :/
While there is more stuff for me to work on to get these mobile releases finished, the main features should be ready to go. I coded the game with touch controls in mind since day one—which is why it works on Steam Deck already.
The main thing I wanted to highlight in the mobile releases of Encounter: The Lost Cards is that you can link your Steam account and play cross platform! So be sure to try that out.
Send me your email address associated with your android device via comments below or direct message on Discord (better option)! The iOS version will be released alongside the Android version, so there’s no need to worry!
Version 1.1 is here! Two weeks ago, I laid out the roadmap for this major update before I really start the (hopefully not too long) grind on the mobile releases. You can read that full post here.
The three main features/improvements are now live (check the new Wayfinder page below!):
No more hacky logic or lost XP. Offline play should now work exactly how one would expect. The self-inflicted technical debt is cleared!
As I said in the post, new players have stated that the amount of information thrown at them can be overwhelming. Additionally, there aren’t enough progression unlocks to explore. So what I've done is lock some Rare, Epic, and Legendary items behind a fun progression track. Using acquired Knowledge players can "study" to permanently add these items to future runs. There are even more Divine and Demonic items to unlock in the shop too!
Basic and Common items got a +1–2 durability boost recently as well. So hopefully you're not losing your early game weapons too early anymore—before you can even can reach the boss!
To thank those of you who have been playing through the early versions, I’m rewarding your progress. For every 15 XP you currently have, you’ll receive 1 Scroll and 1 Wisdom (capped at 20 of each / 300 XP). Check your inventory—they should be waiting for you!
Now that 1.1 is out, I’m diving headfirst into the mobile versions. I've built the game from the ground up with mobile in mind, so it shouldn't take me too long hopefully. Thanks for all the feedback that helped shape this update!
- Item durability has been increased (see image below) - Resolved issues causing inconsistent Experience Point (XP) gains - The menu now clearly displays non-Wayfinder games and includes a toggle to switch between them (if applicable) - NPC coin counts now correctly reset to zero when stolen - Fixed missing sound effects when changing characters and item packages in the menu - Fixed a state issue when replaying tutorial games after the onboarding flow
Item Durability Graph: Before (top) and after (bottom)
A while back, I had this idea to make a game around Tarot. I’ve always been fascinated by its history and depictions. I've made card games in the past, and a ton of pixel-style games, so I figured I was up for the task after leaving my last job.
I wanted to capture the depth of the Tarot—each encounter should feel unique. I also wanted it to be jokes as hell and not take itself too seriously. And I wanted an incredible amount of replayability. So, I guess, let me know how I did, lol.
If you've been playing the Early Access up to this point, thanks a lot. As of today, I've hit 100 sales. I'm aiming for 1 million this year. I've been praying to Jupiter since the beginning. I hope you can pray for the game, too. While you're at it, pray for abundance and luck for you, your family, and your friends as well! These mighty planetary gods are always listening, and they're always willing to do an energy exchange if the motive is pure. But I could be talking out of my bumbum—who knows.
Anyway, you can tell it's just me here... no one to stop me from writing nonsense, whether it be here or in-game. I'm sure you've probably noticed by this point if you've been playing, haha. HR would reverse-fornicate me straight to the unemployment department. Speaking of, make sure to read the latest patch notes! Oh, and check out some old pre-production sketches from a year and a half ago... they grow up so fast sniff.
Enter the Pearly Gates! When a Virtuous soul dies, you now ascend to Heaven—where, in addition to resurrection, you can purchase Legendary items and even trade for Divine consumables!
Added a new Flip effect to certain items, reversing the orientation of the current encounter card—perfect for battles you’d rather not face head-on.
Rodd’s Built Strong ability now grants +1 durability to all gear you receive.
Updated Vice’s bonus action (used outside of combat) to place greater emphasis on Luck.
Added an explicit Revival effect to Faint encounters.
Actions that consume a Wayfinder now default to the one being used, instead of displaying both options.
Runes now scale in power based on the rarity of their host item.
Fixed an issue where Faint encounter background music would continue playing after dying while Virtuous.
Fixed “or” conditions not displaying correctly when their requirements were met.
Fixed an issue where the Stash was inaccessible at the first and last Inns.
Fixed an issue where Health could display incorrectly during NPC retaliation.
Fixed a bug where the Mystical condition was not triggering correctly when cards were queued.
Improved client response handling when the game service fails to respond in-game.

Knight of Cups: coin payout increased (8 → 10).
King of Cups: sinful outcomes were rebalanced (higher Health loss), and the Judgment option now also removes a random item when sinful.
Four of Cups: options streamlined and outcomes rebalanced (stronger Stamina heal; the Sin + Heal outcome now replaces the previous last-action variants).
Six of Cups: added a new food option that grants Virtue when Primed.
Seven of Cups: rewards refocused toward accessories and consumables, with updated costs.
Seven of Cups: NPC reward targeting is now accessory-focused instead of random.
Nine of Cups: the first two options now require a small coin cost.
Checkpoint: updated special choices—“sage” rewards replaced with “wayfinder,” and an extra empty option removed.
Lily's Domain: the first two choices now revive instead of restoring 8 Health (same conditions and costs).
The Gates: added a new Heaven-gates variant encounter.
Game Over: XP-day rewards adjusted and options simplified (Wayfinder replaces Sage; a redundant option removed).
Shamsiel's Inn: stats and rewards rebalanced; durability and Health coin costs and outputs reduced.
Yomiel's Inn: stats and rewards rebalanced; added a sale discount; durability and Health coin costs and outputs reduced.
Arakiel's Inn: stats and rewards rebalanced; added a sale discount; durability pricing adjusted; Health pricing and output updated.
Cassael's Inn: stats and rewards rebalanced; options reworked (durability purchase replaces craft debuff option; sale discount increased).
Beburos's Inn: options and tags rebalanced—sale discount increased; “mystic” purchase converted into a craft debuff; Health purchase is now cheaper but weaker.
Limbo?: added a new high-cost gamble option while keeping Shuffle as a separate choice.
The Fool: added an NPC tag and split the encounter into a sale option plus a separate Shuffle option.
The Magician: Wayfinder now grants rewards (and XP-day); redundant XP-day option removed.
Death: increased the not-virtuous Health penalty and added a major-cost option that trades Sin for Virtue.
Four of Pentacles: shifted away from “wealth” rewards toward “reserved” targeting; sale discounts reduced; third option changed to an unlock-based coin payout.
Four of Pentacles (Reversed): shifted toward “reserved” targeting; sale discounts updated; final option now trades Eat for coin.
Six of Pentacles: the final option now always grants Sin + Stamina (instead of conditional Stamina only).
Seven of Pentacles: both options reworked—unlock choice now removes gear and pays more coin; purchase choice yields a different misc reward.
Seven of Pentacles (Reversed): added a second option that reduces Sin when not-wealthy.
Three of Swords: coin payout reduced (8 → 6).
Five of Swords: stamina-gain condition requirement updated (d5 → d6).
Seven of Swords: Health cost reduced for the “remove random” option (2 → 1).
Eight of Swords: craft costs rebalanced; Magic vs Luck outcomes retuned.
Two of Wands: added a new craft option that grants Magic.
Seven of Wands: slightly increased reward currency values.
Seven of Wands (Reversed): slightly increased reward currency values and added a new Flower reward option.
Eight of Wands: Virtue condition trigger updated (not-wealthy → enchanted).
The End?: updated special choices—“sage” replaced with “wayfinder” rewards; Major Arcana now granted via remaining options; extra option removed.
- Food with infinite durability can now be consumed infinitely.
- You can now gain Knowledge upstairs at the Inn via additional Royal Decrees in the late game.
- Updated the visuals for the first four Inn encounters (two more on the way).
- Fixed a bug where the main character would slowly walk onto the screen at the start—or not walk at all.
- Added a helpful message to the menu screen explaining how to unlock the shop screen.
Vice has been revamped. Starting with "Loaded Dice," Vice will now automatically reroll the dice for the first lost/missed dice roll each turn. So give in to your impulses and reap the rewards! In addition, his kit items have been reworked to feel more… degenerate.
Selling items now feels more satisfying, with helpful icon feedback when hovering over them.
The inn at night now always sells food (no more spending food to recover health).
Added a new Pet item tag for Little Partner, Blightened Pigeon, and of course, Fluffy Cock.
Fixed a bug where experience points (XP) would display as zero after clearing the prologue.
Fixed a bug where battle fist bumps would constantly pop up.
Fixed a bug where the coin pop-up for selling items would randomly appear without input.
Fixed a bug where the trap condition did not detect the correct state.
Fixed a bug where eating did not work correctly when applied to other items.
The most important change is that non-food items can now have an Eat cost. This makes food more useful than ever, which is why the innkeeper now sells it every night.

Good news for Steam Deck players! My friend tested the game on it and it runs smoothly with full touch-screen controls. While the game isn’t fully optimized for Deck yet (I’ve been mainly focused on the PC experience) the entire UI was designed with mobile and touch input in mind from the start.
That means key interactions work naturally on the Deck like:
Tap an enemy to check their inventory (instead of hovering).
Swipe through your deck (instead of scrolling).
Buttons and layout scale cleanly for a handheld screen.
I haven’t done my own full pass on the Steam Deck yet, but everything appears to function as intended. I hope you’ll still enjoy the adventure while I continue refining the experience! If you run into anything odd, feel free to share or shame lol—your feedback helps a ton.
In this latest update, Encounter: The Lost Cards has evolved into a trading card game where you play with four tradable cards. Yes, you read that correctly: four playable cards. Full Steam Market integration allows players to shape a real player-driven economy inside a single-player, turn-based roguelike! The shop/inventory page has been revamped to include Giftboxes which can be opened with Wisdom!
What do these mysterious cards do? That’s the fun part: nobody knows yet. You’ll have to earn them to find out! Be sure to complete the new missions introduced via achievements to unlock powerful starting gear to help get you further than you've ever gone before. Oh, and don't forget to tap and hold the Tarot cards to inspect your deck!
Revamped shop/inventory page (includes Giftboxes)
Ace minor cards added to the game
Deck view (tap and hold the cards)
Achievement missions now display your progress
Tapping on unlocked starter kits now displays an item description
Rarity name added to item descriptions
Tooltip display added when hovering over cards
Toast popup added for hard currency acquisition in-game
Character names updated
Fixed an issue causing encounters to periodically skip
Fixed an issue around server timeout requests causing offline mode to stall
Fixed the Mystical condition trigger
Fixed Bloodfangs and Spiritfangs abilities from improperly stacking
Items you already have copies of in your stash will now prioritize being placed in your active inventory rather than fusing together with the copy in the stash. This gives you more control, as you can always fuse them together later.
