Hello Element-174 fans! The time for the release of "Element-174 - Part 2" is almost here! But before that we have an update to the original game to prepare for this long awaited sequel. This latest update to Part 1 is referred to as v1.00.0. It's a new version numbering system that would otherwise have been referred to as v0.28. This update revamps the game engine to the current one that will be used for Part 2. As a result, there might be some compatibility issues with previous save games. It's an unfortunate side effect of the engine update, but necessary to keep all versions of the game in line.
Because the core files are so different between this and v0.22, even after updating, it may cause this newest version of Part 1 to not even load up properly. If you update to the most current version (v1.00.0) and the game does not start up, here is what you can do to fix it.
First, go into the game's Steam installation folder. Most likely some version of ...steamapps\\common\\Element-174\\game
Locate the saves folder and copy it somewhere else. This will contain your persistents file as well as previous save games. If there's nothing there, or you don't care about keeping this data, don't do anything. The following step may not even delete this folder.
Then go to the Steam client app and uninstall "Element - 174 Part 1."
Once fully uninstalled, simply install the game (v1.00.0) back in its original folder (or somewhere else if you want to start fresh). Return your saves folder back to the game folder here, if moved.
That's it! Simply updating to the latest version has a chance of keeping some of the old game files which causes the game to not load.
But that's not all this new update does! This is also the start of re-rendering some of the original images in Part 1. Back when I was just getting started, I didn't have the hardware, skills or experience to make quality renders. And this update is the first batch of redone renders, mostly for days 1 and 2. I'll be continuing to make my way through the old game until they're all roughly the same quality as Part 2.
Tomorrow is finally the day! Until then!
Hello fans of Element-174! This is the final announcement update before the release of "Element-174 - Part 2!" That's right. After years in development and an especially busy last half a year of work, all content is finally complete on Episode 3 of the game. The wait is finally over so here are the last details:
Release Date: April 17, 2026
Full Price: $11.99 USD (country pricing may vary)
Expect to see Part 1 also bundled with Part 2 on release date for some added savings. Between now and then I'll be working on a small update that was previously mentioned for Part 1. This will include some graphics improvements to some of the renders early in the game that I feel need to be updated. Some, but possibly not all, of those graphics improvements will be done before Part 2's release date. Any later improvements will simply be done following that date. Another reason for the update is that the engine used to make Part 2 was updated and might cause some compatibility issues with previous save games. This update is way to prepare for that, even if some of those old save games will be rendered unusable. More information on that and the updated renders once the update goes live.
Only 8 more days until release! Until then!
Hello, fans of Element-174! This is Knotty here to provide an update on the development of "Element-174 - Part 2." Today saw the completion of day 20 of 21 for Part 2. And despite taking longer than I had hoped, it contained quite a lot of content. For example here is how much content was added in day 20 along with some comparisons of previous updates (regarding lines of code/dialogue and still images).
Days 1-6 combined - Lines of code: 19009, images: 870
Day 18 (previous longest) - Lines of code: 22405, images: 790
Day 20 - Lines of code: 25534, images: 986
So the latest update which took several months to complete is already the largest batch of content yet. As you can see, day 20 actually has more stuff than almost the entire first half of "Part 1." Going through the numbers right now "Part 2" actually contains 122,985 lines of code and dialogue so far through days 15-20. While "Part 1" has 107,581 lines of code/dialogue in comparison. And there is still day 21 which should add another 20,000 lines to complete the DLC. The fact that the DLC of Element-174 has more content than the base game is part of why it's taken so long to release this sequel. And frankly, it's a lot for one person to manage alone. But it is coming to its eventual release date soon.
Which brings us to the current release timeline. Right now, the last part of the game that needs to be finished is the final update aka Day 21. As of right now, the Steam store page lists the release date scheduled for late February (already pushed back from early January). This is an optimistic timeline and even though I've grinded out more hours in the past few months in order to meet these deadlines, it's still taking quite a bit of time given how much work there is. Ideally, once I am able to complete the actual game, it will still need to be submitted for review. This process can take weeks if there are issues and if not approved within 2 weeks of the listed release date, I'll need to push it back again. There is also the next Steam sale which could bump up against any future release dates. So there are a lot of moving parts involved, but in the spirit of transparency, I wanted to be honest with where things stand. There's no one who wants this game to be released more than me after dedicated years of my life to it. I just ask that everyone be a little patient now that the release is so close.
The final bit of information I wanted to share was the intended price for "Element-174 Part 2." Despite being larger than the base game, I thought it would be fair to price it at the original price of $11.99 USD (individual country pricing may apply). This will officially be added to coincide with the review process later. So hang in there, patient fans of Element-174! The wait is almost over!
Hello, Element-174 fans! I'm here to announce the official launch of the Steam store page for "Element-174 Part 2!" The trailer along with screenshots from the upcoming DLC are available there, as well as a description of some of the features. You'll also note that there is an official release date for the game which is January 8, 2026. So mark your calendars for the long awaited launch a few months from now. That gives me enough time to finish the remainder of the game, while not launching directly during a Steam sale. Any additional time I have between now and then will go towards restoring some of the wonkier graphics in Part 1. More on that in a future announcement.
So feel free to check out the new Store page and wishlist the game so you don't forget. It'll be here before you know it!
Hello, fans of Element-174! This is Knotty here to provide another update on how things are coming along regarding Element-174 Part 2. Work continues on the next installment of the game so here's what's new.
First off, since the last dev update here, I've managed to finish all of in-game day 19 with work continuing on day 20. Day 20 is about half way done, with another load of content featured in it. Each of these days contains about as much content as several days in the original Element-174 as the branches get more elaborate with multiple possibilities depending on which relationships the player has active. There are a few days which are even entirely different based certain factors. As a reminder, Part 2 will go up to in-game day 21 when the player will decide which character they want as their primary love interest. After that, Part 3 will be entirely focused on that character's story and choices they've made up to that point. Any secondary partners will still be present, so don't think they're going anywhere!
The next piece of news is the fact that I've acquired all new hardware in order to speed up all future development. It's been almost a month since I've migrated everything I need to continue work and the results are impressive. For example, a single still image previously took 5 minutes (such as the one above) to render on average. Now, that same image can be rendered in about 1.75 minutes. A major upgrade for sure and was extremely necessary to meet the guidelines I set for myself.
Which brings us to the estimated released date. I previously stated that Part 2 would be released around end of Q4 this year. That date still holds up with a more honed in time frame of November being probable. However, with this new hardware, October is even possible. I'm going to pause work on finishing day 20 to begin work on animating the trailer for Part 2, so that I can get the Steam store page up as soon as possible. I would like to have the Steam page up for about 2-3 months before the official release and taking care of that now allows me to focus on the game during that timeline. So expect the Steam page and trailer to be released soon as the next part of development!
